A truly fun movie
The 80's, wow, they gave us some pretty wacky stuff. Stuff like MichaelJackson as we now know him, the appreciation of music from any other timeperiod, and the teen movie. This movie is a teen movie. It's not supposed to be a complex mentalthriller. It's a film to make you laugh . Not so much at its jokes, but themovie itself. Sure the plot isn't Oscar material. Maybe the acting isn'tsuperb. But the movie is hilarious. The whole plot is uproariously preposterous. The movie goes against a lot ofteen-flick principles. The hero isn't very geeky. The nerdy girl waitingon the sidelines is quite attractive, and at one point the movie goes blackand white for a Casablanca scene that still makes me giggle. The wholeprune juice telekinesis thing is never made clear, but that's ok, because thezapped part in the title only comes up about 3 or 4 times. This movie was made in 1990, but the early 90s were simply the last revelsof the 80s. This movie is an 80s teen-flick. The jokes are 80s and themusic is the 80s. But the 80s were funny.I love this movie, it is a great flashback to a less stressful time, backwhen some crazy magic thingy would always save the day. Simply put, thismovie is a great party movie, it features a really cute girl, KelliWilliams, and it's worth a rent.

i can lift things with my mental powers
zapped again is a sequel to the 70's zapped(of coarse). well it takes place in high school. ok. and a new guy is in school. he's a smart, charismatic, outgoing, good looking guy having a hard time fitting in. well he finally finds a place with the tiny group of people called the science club. while they're the science club meeting room they find a stash of prune juice. actually its not prune juice but stuff created by a teenage genious from the first movie that gives them mental powers. mostly to move things telekineticly. well the new kid drinks it and gets powers. silliness ensues and all kinds of things happens. anyhow its a good movie. a little cheesey. but cute.

If You Own The 1st - Add this to the set!
Granted, its not as classically fun as the originally, but it still is worth having in your collection. The random stars in this movie make it worth it also. Linda Blair is HOT in this movie, and Lyle Alzado makes for an extra side to this sequel."First comes the women, then the whiskey"

Linda Blairs talents are waisted in this forgetable sequel of Scott Baio flick.
In this sequel to "Zapped!".Another High School science nerd inadvertedlyfinds Scott Baio's stash of Teleknetic potions. He decides to use thesesupermential power controlling drinks to get rid of the school bullies.Who aretrying to take over their science club. The plot is predictable, boring andphoney. It doesn't have the overtly sexual gags of the previous film andthere is none of the memorable characters from the first film in thispicture.I doubt that Mr.Crothers(who played Dexter in the firstfilm),Ms.Langdon(Who does appear in this film as theprincipal),Mr.Waldron,Mr.Bakey,Mr.Bowenor even Ms.Page(who still plays the abusive, henpecking Crazed PCmoralisticpest that she was known for on "Sandford & Son")would have helped thisforgetable sequel at all.Even Linda Blair's appearance in this stupidmovieas a Home Ecconomics teacher is limited to a cameo. That was used for aneedless and tasteless sexual sight gag.Linda Blair is still a talentedperformer. But her efforts are waisted in this mindless piece ofHollywoodized Teen crap.

Sure its bad . . . if youre expecting Citizen Kane.
This is one of those movies that suffers from painfully poor reviewshere at the IMDb, from people who are the most pretentious film snobsyou will ever not meet. If you are going to judge this film againstsomething with legitimate cinematic merit, like Citizen Kane, or SevenSamurai, or whatever stock staple film you choose, of course you willbe disappointed. However, if you just want a ridiculous early 90's teen film for alittle escapist fun whilst flipping through the channels at 4am on aSaturday night, then you could do a lot worse than this movie. If youare a big fan of teen movies in particular, you may find this prettyenjoyable. It's no Breakfast Club, don't get me wrong. It's completecrap. But it's fun crap. So, if you are the kind of person who generally enjoys teen movies andhas a high tolerance for zany antics, over the top performances, andsilly plots, then you should watch this movie in the event that youhappen across it.If you are the kind of person who refuses to acknowledge anything ascinema except for films produced during the French New Wave, then notonly should you avoid this movie, but also, maybe not waste so muchtime and energy criticizing it so harshly, you Godard-watching hippie.

ZANny
This film is extremely goofy and isn't for anyone who wants a sophisticated film like "The Shawshank Redemption" or even "Bambi" for that matter! I've never seen the original Zapped, nor do I want to, but the music for this movie is AMAZING!!; it's so nostalgically 80's and there's one song on here called "If I Didn't Love You" by Esther Terry that for a long time I was really wishing was available on CD somewhere!!! now I know I'd probably sell it a month later if I did have it on CD, but anyway; the main character who gets "Zapped" (???) has a charming sense of sarcasm running on and off throughout the film and Linda Blair makes a special "dress apperance" (find out what I mean by watching the film!), plus the music and look of the film is so highly reminiscent of the late 80's!!! It reminds me of those old days when I used to see the very beginning of "Step By Step" and shows like that (???) and then, I guess, my mother either turned the TV off or I had to go to school or something like that...but anyway; if you can make room in your DVD collection for little films like this and you went to high school in the 80's or **wish** you did, then this film **MIGHT** be for you!

I Didnt Like It And It Had Nothing To Do With It Being Silly!
I watched the first movie Zapped on Cable, I think it was on HBO or Cinemax or one of those other movie channels and I really liked it and found it very amusing but one day I was watching TV and this sequel called Zapped Again came on and I thought it was terrible and very disappointing and probably one of the worst sequels I have ever seen! And no I wasn't expecting a serious movie like The Shawshank Redemption or Citizen Kane. Seriously I think anyone who has seen the First Zapped movie and liked it knows that it was silly and that the sequel is likely to be silly too. I like silly movies so clearly that is NOT why I didn't like Zapped Again. I didn't like Zapped Again because I thought it was boring and was not as funny as Zapped! Actually I didn't find this sequel funny at all.

LAME!
Zapped which is the original movie isn't the best movie ever made but it had a charm to it and is worth at least 3 stars but Zapped Again the sequel is lame, lame lame!

Zapped Again...........Trapped Again........That Telekinesis Rap Again
There was nothing so terribly great about the first Zapped movie, certainly nothing that warranted inflicting a sequel on the Americanmovie going public. But who knows what the producers thought in makinganother film. I can't believe there was a great demand for a sequel. All the tumult from the Carrie like prom night that ended the firstZapped movie has died down. It's some eight years later and a whole newgroup of kids is at Emerson High School. A new misfit of a kid in ToddEric Andrews comes to town. After that it's the usual angst as the various cliques in the schoolshun him and he joins the science club where they find in the lab whereScott Baio accidentally discovered that telekinesis formula. It's seemslike he hid a stash of it behind the Albert Einstein picture in a holein the wall. When Todd imbibes, the high school world becomes his.Of course Todd's got eyes for the head cheerleader Maria McCann eventhough Kelli Williams of the science club really digs him. Maria'sproperty of Reed Rudy the head jock at the school and he and Todd keephaving it out. Of course Reed's overmatched from the gitgo with thattelekinesis thing Todd's got going for him.The climax at the homecoming was really dumb. Rudy frames the scienceclub and gets their space for his exclusive fraternity and then furthertries to humiliate them at the homecoming. But putting them in chargeof the food? Dumb, Dumberer, Dumbest, that's just begging for payback. What a MAROON.It's funny like the first Zapped in a juvenile sort of way and its forthem I'd recommend it.

Not the best, yet not the worst...
I was reading some of the user comments and one in particular caught myeyeas it said pretty much all that I was thinking. I just recently caughtthison USA, and I must say it's not half bad. I mean - I've surely seen a lotworse. Kelli Williams is one of my favorite actresses (LOVED her on ThePractice!) and to see her as a *nerdy girl* (which, in my opinion, shewasn't) was different. Before watching, I read an interview she did thatquoted her on this movie, saying it was bad (which - if you've seen herother work - Practice or There Goes My Baby does make sense). I thought itwas nice and I thought her presence in the film made a big difference.

It keeps you reasonably entertained for 90 minutes, which is its purpose
The only reason I watched _Zapped Again_ was because I had again watchedtheoriginal _Zapped!_ after 19 years (see my review for _Zapped!_). From someof the reviews in video books and on the IMDb, I was prepared for anunmitigated disaster. Surprisingly, I found myself reasonably entertainedfor an hour and a half.First of all, I should say that _Zapped Again_ isn't a great movie. Itsorigins and status as a low budget, direct-to-video movie clearly show.Theplot is very superficial, the constant double entendres (especially the"wiener" jokes) get a little annoying, and thestand-up-for-your-friends-and-don't-go-with-the-popular-crowdmoral that pops up in every teen film has been conveyed much moreeffectively. Even the special effects are worse than the original_Zapped!_,which actually came out seven years earlier. But in spite of all of this, I didn't think this was half bad, probablybecause I went in with lowered expectations. One reason was because themovie doesn't rely on strong profanity, sex scenes, or gross-out scenes toentertain its target audience, the way so many other teen movies do. Infact, this is basically a PG-rated movie with some nude scenesincongruouslythrown in--just like the original _Zapped!_. I'm no prude, and I have toagree with the reviewer who said that the movie is "gosh darn wholesome,"but not all movies--or even all teen movies--require racy elements. Maybethis IS too much like _Saved by the Bell_, but it does have PG-ratedmaterial (and those nude scenes, the only reason why this is ratedR).I should devote a separate paragraph to Kelli Williams, who plays thehero'slove interest (by the way, her mother, Shannon Wilcox, plays the hero'smomin the opening scenes). I had never heard of her before watching _ZappedAgain_ (I never watch TV, so I hadn't even seen her on _The Practice_),butlet me tell you, she helps this movie immeasurably. You see, her characteris supposed to be a science nerd, just like Felice Schachter in theoriginal_Zapped_, but Kelli lights up the movie every time she appears onscreen.Notonly is she the perfect "sweet nice girl" (I always had a weakness forthosecharacters), but she plays this part without overacting or resorting tocaricature; she gets it just right. Although roles like this are nevermeantto win Oscars, Kelli takes this little part in a direct-to-video flick andactually does something with it. Although I'm sure she'd like to forgetallabout _Zapped Again_, the movie is much better for her presence. I'm notsurprised that she went on to her present success on _ThePractice_.The acting is actually better than in _Zapped!_, which is one main reasonwhy I liked _Zapped Again_ better. However, I thought that the types thatsome of the characters were supposed to represent were inconsistent withthose characters' portrayal and actions. Kevin (played by Todd EricAndrews)acts just too "cool" to be an outcast nerd; I can't see why he would haveany social problems. As for Kelli Williams as Lucy, I just couldn't accepther as a nerd girl (although I certainly don't object to her presencehere). Not only does she look too good for the part, but her attempts at nerdyintellectualism fall flat, and the two scenes where she inexplicably wearsglasses (and just as inexplicably takes them off) look like weak attemptsbythe filmmakers to establish her character. They should have just had herplay a straightforward "nice girl" (which she does admirably). Linda Blairdoesn't cut it as "the hottest teacher in the school": not only does shenotlook "sexy" enough, but her character is also just toonice.Still, I thought that _Zapped Again_ was a half-decent movie, especiallybecause the acting was better than _Zapped!_ (maybe because 1989 was amoreexciting year than 1982, and had that hip attitude?). Hey, it kept meentertained, and sometimes I like to take a break from the CriterionCollection and watch something that does nothing more than entertainyou. If you demand that all teen movies and sex comedies have refugees from WBNetwork shows, big budgets, and great soundtracks (always a big sellingpoint with teen films), then you'll hate _Zapped Again_ (which, by theway,is more a remake of _Zapped!_ than a sequel). But as long as you loweryourexpectations, and as long as you don't expect a late 80s teen classic like_Heathers_ or _Say Anything_, you might get a little something out ofthis.

My brief review of the film
Todd Eric Andrews is brilliant in this film, working with a very witty, charismatic and charming character. His presence is not only enough tocompensate for a silly plot and a predictable, lifeless romance, but heis also able to bring this sequel to a level higher than the firstfilm. The are a number of amusing moments, and they are genuinely funnythis time round, with likable even if very silly characters and Andrewsheading the cast. Just like the first entry, this is not a film towatch for nudity, as there is very little. It is not one to watch forthe premise either, because all the science behind it is not deeplyexamined. But, it is a film to watch for amusement - simple good fun.

The best teen movie of the 90s!
Believe it or not, I think Zapped Again! has to be one of the best teen movies of the 90's. Along w/ Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mallrats, & Clueless is a list movies I grew up watching. Those are best teen movies from the early-mid 90's. Anyways, Zapped Again! made a good comeback when Todd Eric Andrews followed Scott Baio & Willie Ames footsteps on discovering a weird drinking portion. If you are a true fan of this movie & grew watching these movies (which I have on VHS & DVD) or just love classic teen movies. This is the perfect movie especially for all you party animals out there!

Simplistic entertainment at its best.
This is your brain. This is your brain on prune juice. A lot of people hatethis movie, but it offers entertainment of the mindless kind! And it's goodfor that purpose. I saw it when I was teenager (I'm 24 now) and it has beena classic between my homies and I. Buddah help you if you don't like thisfilm when I show it to you (GET OUT)!;-) I worry about people who dislikeitso much. It means they are too serious. I suppose you need to be in themindframe of a kid to really enjoy it, without jaded sexual expectations (andweirdoes, don't rent/buy this movie if you're just horny). Not the typicaleighties sex fest. Rent it or buy it just to see the stupid mistakes (theyare unreal) and the endless jokes you can get from it. Classic! It'sgenius. So bad it's good. For instance, when they have the super cheesy13thannual penguin run, then they say the key club has held the title since the40's or something, IT JUST DOESN'T ADD UP! and its GREAT! Or when they lockdoors and three seconds later they just pop open. HILARIOUS, because it'snot intentional!!! C'mon now! If you cant find humor here, you are DEAD orjust too damn serious. Don't expect an award winning script, it's aboutprune juice and telekinesis!!!!!

Excellent Love Story Helps Save This Quirky Teen Comedy
Zapped with Scott Baio, borrowed from The Exorcist and Carrie and hordes ofother films in the horror genre. The sequel tends to go in a differentdirection, borrowing from teen comedies like Revenge Of The Nerds, Some KindOf Wonderful and Teen Wolf. The outcome is surprisingly better.Similar premise as Revenge Of The Nerds finds a group of nerdy Science Clubmembers being muscled out of their giant Science lab by the jocky Key Clubmembers. The Key's want a place to party and the Science lab is just bigenough to accommodate their needs. A hitch arises when the new kid inschool, Kevin Mathews (Todd Eric Andrews), a sort-of outcast jock, persuadesthe Science Club members not to give in. The rivalry comes toahead when the two clubs face off in an event called ÂThe Penguin Run.'In the middle of all this rehashed material emerges a formulaic but sweetlove story. This is the main reason I found the film so appealing. KelliWilliams(The Practice) plays Lucy, a shy, kind-hearted but nerdy ScienceClub member who falls in love with Kevin on the first day of school. Kevinspends so much time chasing Amanda, a beautiful Key Club member, that hedoesn't notice Lucy's subtle advances. When Lucy attempts to pour her heartout, her awkward insecurities doesn't allow for the words to come the wayshe intended, `Before you came here all I cared about was studying andnow...' Needless to say Kevin chooses the more confident Amanda.Heartbroken, Lucy soon distances herself from him. It is only then thatKevin notices just how beautiful the less attractive girl is.The only reference to the original Zapped comes with the discovery of prunejuice bottles stored inside the Science lab wall. Inside the bottles is theformula which gave Baio telekinesis in the original. Kevin Mathews uses theformula to help win ÂThe Penguin Run' among other things. Zapped Againdoesn't get bogged down in the implications of having telekinesis the waythe original film did. It's more like a background thought in thisone.Despite what some reviews say about Zapped Again, it is not an overtlysexual movie. The amount of nudity in Again equals about one half of asecond of screen time. Watch for Linda Blair, Lyle Alzado and Karen Black asteachers.

THIS FILM SUCKS!
This film was the swansong of the dying 80s. Not only did it fail todeliver, it showed how low Linda Blair (of "The Exorcists" fame) and KarenBlack ("Five Easy Pieces") sank.I don't blame the actors or actresses, or, for that matter, the director. The fault belongs to the writer (who should have known better) and to theproducers. The problem with Hollywood is that it can't produce anythinggood anymore; if you want something like the original "Zapped!", just see"Zapped!"The plot is hackneyed. It's good, I suppose, if you're bored and it's aFriday evening with nothing better to do, and you happen to be watchingJoeBob Briggs.

The humanity!
6 votes for a "10" rating? Either the imdb had a glitch, or the cast ofthis movie is trying to save themselves the humiliation of findingthemselves on the bottom-100 list (which I'm sure they will joinshortly). To summarize, this kid moves to a new high-school, where things are prettylame. He makes friends with the local Science Club, who are being bulliedby the Key Club (where all the jocks and popular people hang out) and thefaculty. Nothing seems to go right until the kid and his new friendsdiscover a formula that gives him superpower-type-telekenesis. He findsthat he can control objects with his mind. But it only lasts a short time, however, so they put the power into a bottle of prune juice, which he drinksanytime he needs the power. With his new power and his super-coolness, heoutwits the faculty and the local bullies, gets the girl, and saves theScience Club.I could almost accept this pathetic movie for what it is if it was made inthe early 80's, along with all the other cheesy Animal-House and Revenge ofthe Nerds rip-offs. But this movie was actually made in 1990 (1989 in thecredits), which is something that is really hard to believe. The soundtrackis about 10 years behind cool, as are the clothes, the plot, well, everything. The whole movie looks like a terrible, twisted version of"Saved by the Bell", and the cheesiness of the whole thing can berepresented by the music-video-like ending that makes Vanilla Ice lookcool. There is nothing positive I can even say about this movie, except that thegirl is kind of cute. Don't rent this movie, don't watch this movie, don'tgo near this movie. Two words: Lyle Alzedo. 'Nuff said.

Got to tell you dont rent unless its really cheap..
The only reason i even rented this movie was because it was in the rentfora dollar section and i was bored. plus horny. quite frankly that's theonlyreason you rent these movies. i'm tying to make the leap from the originaltothe sequel since in no way it fits. there is no prune juice in the firstfilm.anyway its a b-movie. the nudity is average some good implants. the sexscene between the two main characters is pathetic. the comedy is ok if youlike that 80's gross humor. anyway it's an ok b-movie.
05 May 2012
I didnt get zapped I got swindled
I'm glad I saw this movie on late-night TV rather than renting it for fourbucks on video, because I got screwed big time. Why weren't the charactersas funny and outrageous as they were in the 1982 original? More to thepoint, where was the SEX? The Scott Baio movie fairly dripped with prurientappeal. I mean, they had an entire prom full of scantily-clad people runningaround; why didn't they have a prom scene this time? And why was this movieso gosh darn wholesome? You have to be between the ages of 13 and 18 tofully appreciate it, and I think I was about 20 when I saw it. There'shardly any profanity, and the writers must have thought that people wouldfind jokes about the word "wiener" daring and hilarious. Who thought up thissequel, a roomful of second graders? It was direct-to-video, for God's sake! There should have been MORE racy material, not less! It should have beenworthy of an R rating, but instead they made it tantamount to a PG-13. I wasvery disappointed with ZAPPED AGAIN! Watch it for the laughs, but not somuch for the flesh.

Oh, come on.
It's not all that awful ... it's actually sort of fun.Yes, it's completely formula. Yes, it's total cheese. That's what everyoneexpects, though. It's light, it's funny, and it's got just a smattering ofnaked. Just what you need for 2 in the morning.Lighten up.AK
