Puerile

The show certainly has a premise with loads of potential, but my concern is with the characters. To me, the first series was heading in the right direction (slowly) until they brought in this Claudia character. I find her the most irritating, smug, egotistical self centered and self absorbed wannabee. In every scene she acts like she's in a school play mugging for the camera (and her friends in the back row) with hissed lines and wider than required eye movements. And for goodness sake, the BAD one liners and the sotto voce comments...she is no more than a spoiled child. It has turned Warehouse 13 into yet another show that is centering around teen angst. How many more of those do we need ?Which brings me to "Pete" and "Myka". Two adults who act like 11 year olds fighting in the back of the car on a long journey. For two supposedly professional government agents, specially selected for this position, their immaturity is astounding. Pete is just a "man boy" we are supposed to find goofily charming, but it's not working. Oh and if he screams "Aweesome !!!" in his high silly girly voice one more time, I think I shall scream myself. I do like Artie and Mrs Frederics, just about the only characters ground in any sort of reality (Artie is a bit like Henry from Eureka, the one who keeps the show on a more serious level and prevents it from descending into drivel) And as this is a review for Season One and I have already been watching Season Two, it would be disingenuous for me to say "I hope it gets better next season" It doesn't actually, it just gets sillier and even less believable. What I'd like to see; less goofy, juvenile behaviour, no more Claudia and much more emphasis on the artifacts themselves. The producers of this series are throwing away a show that could be rock solid sci-fi. It's descending into one-line, mindless, teenage entertainment. It should be called "Outhouse 13".

Cool Show

This show kind of reminds me of "The X-Files" (or "Fringe") with alighter touch. There are more comedic moments particularly betweenstraight-laced Agent Bering and dude-with-a-vibe Agent Lattimer. As thetwo protagonists of this show, Joanne Kelly and Eddie McClintock arewell cast and they have decent chemistry. They equal each other out.C.C.H. Pounder is also well cast as the mysterious Mrs. Frederick whoseems to call all the shots. My fave character is superbly weird butimmensely likable Artie, perfectly played by Saul Rubinek. These fourmain characters create the perfect balance as Logic (Bering), Intuition(Lattimer), Wisdom (Frederick) and Intelligence (Artie). You like themall because they compliment each other. The only character that annoysme is Claudia Donovan. The writers have her dropping "dudes" and"chills" and all that other slang too much to make her believable asthe so-called "whiz-kid" (which is how she refers to herself as thoughshe's really not a kid as a twenty-something). Though the actressplaying her (Allison Scagliotti) is doing the best she can with thatspazzy role, her character doesn't fit in. Maybe the writers are tryingto reach the Miley Cyrus demographic with the Claudia role ; I don'tknow but I wish they'd have a whole lot less ofpermanently-wound-up-valley-girl Claudia and more of the mystical Leena(Genelle Williams). If it's comedy they want, they've already maxxedout with McClintock's Pete and Rubinek's Artie. So, all in all, a coolshow and SciFi (or SyFy...whatever it is this week) did good with thisone. A keeper.

I good series

This review is from: Warehouse 13 Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video) I am about half way through the series and find it very interesting. I think the special effects are a bit cheesy, but enjoy the series.

DVD problems

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) I find I agree with all the negative reviews here, especially Paula's insightful one, but I like the show anyway and will continue to watch. It has an odd charm. My problem is with the DVD (first season). It has good visual quality and one merciful feature that should be mandatory on all DVDs: hitting the menu button the moment it loads will bring up the main menu, bypassing all the boiler plate and promos. Unfortunately, it seems to lock up sometimes when you try to use reverse play (necessary if you want to look at the credits that go screaming by in overdrive). It hits the beginning of a video block and won't respond to any command. I've had to turn the DVD player off three times during the first 4 episodes to recover function. A minor annoyance, but there it is. And the penultimate episode had no sound at all (fortunately, it was closed captioned). It's interesting how deeply anti-science (on many levels) fantasy can be, for a genre that's often allied or confused with SF.

Hilarious - really?

Maybe I've got a different Warehouse 13, but the names all match, so I doubt it. I couldn't get past DVD 2 of 3. This is, in my opinion, X-Files meets the Night Stalker. (For you young folk, a 70s era newshound who gets mixed up in ancient Indian rituals, strange magnetic fields, etc.) I'm a very long time scifi fan, but these shows require way too much of a leap of faith for me. Having read a comment about how the later shows were better, I will have a look at the third DVD before dumping this into Goodwill donation box.

Upbeat and Safe

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) If you want to watch something that won't make you think too much but entertain you by creating absurd situations, this is a good pick.

Awesome Possum

Hands down one of my favorite new shows to date. It's like the X-Files and Laura Croft had a baby and *poof* = Warehouse 13.

What a great show and suited to all ages

What a great piece of work. Its just fun and entertaining - no in-depthstories, no deep meanings, nothing to do but watch and enjoy. My wife and I like it (50s), my children enjoy it (20s and 30s) andtheir kids enjoy it (6 - 12). Anyone else that has sen it raves aboutit as well. What more could you want! Nice escapism after a day at work. I can't wait for the next series tocome out.I recommend this to anyone, sci-fi fans or not. It has adventure, humour, no bad language, nothing too risqué for the kids but a strongenough storyline to keep the adults on board as well as the kids.

Love it but why was Christmas episode not on DVD

I love Warehouse 13... but why isn't the Christmas episode from Season 1 on the first Season DVD set? I luckily DVR'd Season 2's Christmas episode in case it is not on the Season 2 disk set. However I love the series and will continue watching. I can't wait til it starts up again.

The Plot Needs Some Spice, But the Idea Works

Warehouse 13 is rather unique. While it does incorporate a certainX-Files-ness, it is in a different category altogether-- one that Ihave never seen. The show focuses on Pete and Myka, and of courseArtie, as they work together to gather artifacts (from a range of timesin history) with dangerous and mysterious properties. The concept isnew to me, and very enjoyable. Still, I feel that the show is sittingon the fence between being about the characters and being about theartifacts. To make it work, I think that they might need to lean to one(most would probably say artifacts). The characters still need more going on, if you ask me. Also, atwelve-year-old could figure out the resolution to the mystery half anhour into an episode. In addition, the show desperately needs a better main theme. I myselfam working on it... but I'm not really an expert on that. Or really ontelevision-- I'd like to clarify that.

We enjoy WAREHOUSE science fiction and appreciate

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) The ease it was in getting this DVD. If you like quirky, history driven science fiction, then by all means invest in this show. We love watching it with EUREAKA as the dynamic duo of relaxing ,tv fun. Thanks, Amazon, for making it easy.

Fringes Grim Reaper I like that.

Artie's character has more of a human quality and fun to watch. TheWarehouse team is a family. He interacts with the cast as an olderuncle/father figure with flaws but being intuitively right most thetime. Mrs. Frederick has a mystery that tricks our minds to learningwhat she is about. Unlike the Fringe, John Noble is psychopathic jerk who as no remorsewith his experimentation and very little emotion for the cast orhelping society. His history is a mystery no one cares to solve. Therest of the cast are 2-D characters that never changes. They showdwells on their past so often you basically get nowhere after everyepisode. It plain, boring, and digging its own grave right now. Plus as a fanatic about history, Warehouse 13 is a countlessly tributeto myths, legends, famous inventors, infamous theories, iconiccharacters, popular literature; WORLD HISTORY. It also a salute towarda fairly diminishing culture; Steampunk. Its Steampuck's biggestrevival since Hellboy films. I hate to compare shows but this screams competition. Fringe's pilotcost ten million dollars; loaded with publicity and the show isn'tnearly as worth wild. Warehouse 13 and SyFy shows you content wins overcost. The show pays for itself and brings viewers in. It's prettyexciting to watch the characters. The warehouse itself is a characterand adventure. It has been growing a little gimmicky lately but forit's first season is on a great start. The pieces are coming togetherreally quickly. I'm excited to watch the next seasons and its newadventures. Shout out to the cast if your reading this. I love you guys and girls.Keep up the great work. Awesome.

A quirky mix of Eureka and the X-FIles

When this show debuted on 7/9/09 I was hooked. You had me in the first ten minutes when Secret Service Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock)and Myka Ophelia Bering (Joanne Kelly) were bickering like competing siblings. Dr. Arthur "Artie" Nielsen (Saul Rubenik) is their caring but grouchy boss. I could watch Rubinik read a phone book. He is the best character actor I have ever seen. And speaking of character actors here are some that bring the fun and quirky to the show:* Genelle Williams as Leena is the innkeeper and helps in the warehouse.* Allison Scagliotti as Claudia Donovan is the baby sister agent of the group, and watched over by Artie and Mrs. Frederic.* C. C. H. Pounder as Mrs. Irene Frederic - Warehouse13's keeper (emotionally and physically) and who hilariously appears and disappears when you least expect it.The show revolves around a Raiders of the Lost Ark type government warehouse that has a team of agents bag and tag history's famous artifacts that cause death and devastation when they are in the wrong hands. Emotions (or sometimes plain greed or even stupidity) cause awful things to happen and Myka and Pete are sent to investigate and retrieve the items without causing further damage to anyone or anything. This is a warm and friendly family show that has no gratuitous sex or violence, and lots of charm and wit. This DVD set is a keeper.

Its a hit!

This show is going to prove to be a hit, its original, quirky and drawson success of preceding science fiction hit series, mark your calendarsthis ones for the history books! The characters are original, theconcept is fresh and full of promise. It is about time sci-fi (nowsyfy) came out with a new show like this, judging from the viewernumbers on the premier night, like Eureka it shows promise to be alonger running series, unlike previous blunders like the Dresden Files. As the previous poster indicated, if you like the weirdness of theX-files and the quirky comedy of Eureka, this show is for you, it notonly draws from those two aspects, but as I stated above brings its ownoriginality to the table, which just adds to its allure, hopefully wewill see this last for a few seasons!

Great, but how long does it take to get to Paris?

I watch every week so I like the show, but there are holes. In Stargate SG-1, we all ignored the fact that everyone in the universe spoke English, and in Warehouse 13, we don't notice that it seems to take only a couple of hours to get anywhere in the world from the Badlands. They must have a couple of hypersonic planes hidden away in that warehouse, or maybe some Star Trek transporters. Also, it would have been nice if they had taken a few stock shots of the real Badlands rather than using CGI for everything. The supposedly-nearby town looks more like a Vancouver suburb (which I'm sure it is) than any town I'm familiar with in western South Dakota.

Ghostbusters wo the humor, X-Files wo the cleverness

Just watched the pilot episode and won't probably bother with any more. The writers seem to have grabbed a bunch of scenes and ideas from, among others, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, and The X-Files,thrown them into a bag and shaken them up. The result was less thansatisfying. The two central characters, McClintock and Kelly, were likable, but thethird, Artie "Nielson" was a caricature. I think he was supposed to befunny, but just came across as bumbling, and certainly not anyone whowould be trusted by a super-secret Government organization. Themysterious Mrs. Frederic could possibly be interesting, but willprobably just be kept in the background like "cigarette man" in theX-Files.

The Warehouse Weaves Its Plots But Does Not Wander

As a student of both American history and technology, I was naturallyexcited to begin following "Warehouse 13" with its two-hour Pilot. Tothis point, with only four episodes to go, I can say with confidencethat my expectations have been well and truly met. Having never been afan of "Friday the 13th" or other, similar, television shows, I beganthis mini-career of being a Warehouse fanatic with no expectations. It has definitely succeeded, thus far, in capturing my attention and intransforming me into a "Warehouse fanatic". Yes, I like the irasciblebut friendly genius which is Artie. Yes, I like the cyberpunk womanchild of Claudia. Yes too, I like both Myka and Pete, even if I mustagree with some who have found Myka's somewhat dour attitude ( as acharacter ) to be off-putting. She is definitely the brainiac careerwoman with emotional baggage, and we-the-fans will have to wait and seeif this can carry her as a character for the rest of the season.Every real and effective fiction has to create and then show how eventsserve to transform the characters who experience them, and so far, itseems like "Pete" [ Eddie McClintock ] has been growing inside thestory lines. "Myka" on the other hand, seems stuck on being stuck up.Perhaps that is the concept that the series creators wanted to create, and if so, they have done that exactly. After all that has happened inthe fiction, Myka still does not seem to want the job, even if she isreally very good at it. We know she had a terrible emotional loss, butas fans we are wondering if she can just "get over herself" and soon. "Duped," the most recent installment, lays that concept out in a mostunmistakable fashion. Then again, plot must always require conflict andone senses there will be a resolution to this internal conflict withinMyka at some point, probably soon, and if not then definitely inside ofSeason Two. Good going so far, and therefore this "Warehouse" gets tenstars of ten for every episode, from this fan, or fanatic.

Good, funny, entertaining series. Love it!

This isn't X-Files, Fringe or SGU, or any of the big, awesome, freaky syfy shows. It's different; it's refreshing, and not depressing like so many conspiracy theories can become. It's funny, and has a lot of interesting historical information (and obviously a lot of made-up artifacts!); the show is entertaining and the characters are cool. I am a fan of this show and will keep watching it! Bought the 1st season dvd from amazon; it comes in a carton dvd box, which sucks, but it's bearable. i just wish the series had more episodes! it's so short! that being said, it's expensive for it's small size (i didn't buy at 20$). I give the show 5 stars, and 3 on product, so evens out to 4.

Whats not to like?

I disagree with the various posters who have said this isn't grown upenough for a more mature audience, I think it's pitched just aboutright. I just turned 30 and I'm enjoying every minute of it, and whynot? It's quirky, light, easy to watch and the actors all give fineperformances. Eddie Mclintock and Joanne Kelly make a greatpartnership, Saul Rubinek is, as always, brilliant, CCH Pounder has theright mix of gravitas and compassion and Allison Scagliotti as Claudiais electric to watch. With Roger Rees as McPherson providing a crediblevillain and Genelle Williams as the lovely Leena putting in a (for me)surprising twist, it all makes for some very entertaining TV.I've just finished watching the first season, and I personally can'twait for the second.
