Vegas Vacation is Superb

I am surprised that people trash vacation movies. I feel that ChevyChase acts so well to the part that people like to take pot shots onhim. He is amazing. Not once in the movie do you feel boredom. This ismuch better than intense acting by solid actors like Jack Nicholson andAnthony Hopkins. This guy is your common mans hero, the wise ass guy introuble, the cute family man who loves his family.I love all the vacation movies. So much that rating is very difficult.Each has its own theme. However if we must rate then it will be suchthat European Vacation will be No 2 and rest all are number 1. Theproblem with European vacation is that the kids who act are not verypowerful versus the other movies. Else even European Vacation is a gem.Beverly Dangelo is nice and Eddie comes and steals the show - actuallyhe makes Clark look better.Hope that he comes out with many more.

Over 12? Then you wont like this movie

The Simpsons did it, Meet the Fockers did it... and Vegas Vacation certainly did it. When you run out of witty humor, the next best thing is slapstick comedy. The other Vacations were awesome because of the dry wit mixed with rediculous situations. Well they ran out of ideas by the time this bomb was in the works. This movie starts out with Chevy Chase driving through his neighborhood reading a map, and driving over lawns and causing a bunch of accidents. That sets the tone for the entire movie: Low-brow humor that doesnt even entertain.. forget about laughing...Complete piece of duece.

Vegas has its moments - good and bad

It is the same story, the Griswolds are off to wreak havoc on another city. This time Clark decides to take the whole family to Las Vegas so he and Ellen can renew their wedding vows for their anniversary. They manage to leave their unique Griswold touch on most Vegas institutions, like a Seigfried and Roy show, a Wayne Newton show and the Hoover Dam. Most of the comedic highlights in this movie come either when the ultimate white-trash, cousin Eddie is onscreen or when Clark is at the blackjack table.My favorite part of this movie is Ethan Embry as the most dimwitted Russ to date. He buys a fake ID, becomes a high roller and wins 4 cars gambling. I would recommend renting this movie, but not buying it, the 'bonus' features are light.

just gets funnier

Ok so i have to admit that the first time i saw this movie i did think itwas pretty lame, but every time that i have seen it since then, it hasjustgotten funnier. i was raised on the griswalds and just have a specialappreciation for that humor, not to mention the fact that maybe i have alittle bit of a super-crush on ethan embry aka rusty. i think it is justafabulous movie and everyone should give it at least two shots. i meanreally, the small casino, pick a number, what more do youneed.

Dr. Dread is wrong. Its not the worst in the series.

I'd have to disagree with Dr. Dread. Vegas Vacation is NOT the worst inthe series. (That honor is bestowed on Christmas Vacation II. VegasVacation is a very close second.) Honestly, I have to wonder why onearth they had to make this one? Seemed like Christmas Vacation was aperfect stopping point for the franchise. I found this one to be prettypainful to watch. Clark's obsession with gambling was anything butfunny. Seeing him lose at the same table run by the same guy was prettydamn annoying. Ellen's obsession with Wayne Newton was way over the top. The whole bitwith her going to his house just didn't fly with me. I also have to wonder why bring back Cousin Eddie? He didn't appear inEuropean vacation, and that movie was awesome. His return in ChristmasVacation added even more tension and humor. But in this movie, Eddiecontributed absolutely nothing to the film. (It was like watching Sarahin Crow City of Angels all over again.) I did enjoy the bit with Rusty using a fake ID to gamble, then winingeach and every time. But even then, it got old really fast. As far as I'm concerned, there are only three vacation movies.Vacation, European Vacation, and Christmas Vacation. Vegas Vacation andChristmas Vacation II should just be put out of print, buried andforever lost.

'Vegas Vacation' joins the undistinguished ranks of such oddities as'Cheech & Chong: Still Smokin'' and 'Trail of the Pink Panther' asfilms that barely qualify to be called movies. In each case, there wasno compelling reason for the movie to have been made in the firstplace, and in each case, the final product ends up looking and soundinglike exactly that, a product. Films such as these are not only awful,they are hard to concentrate on. There is the feeling when watchingthem that talented people should have known better, rather than signingaway their reputations for a paycheck. Here, we get Chevy Chase,Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid, the principal stars of the hithertoentertaining 'Vacation' series reprising their roles for said paycheck.The film gets off to a good, fastpaced start, with things happening soquickly that we almost don't realize the movie has run out of gags andideas by the time the Griswolds get to Las Vegas. Which is maybe tenminutes into the movie. From there, 'Vegas Vacation' becomes nothingmore than a glorified travelogue for the famed gambling city. Ihonestly asked myself at one point, as Chevy Chase pops up during aperformance by Siegfield & Roy in one of many laughless sequences, whoproduced this movie? The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce? It's hard notto get that impression as the characters wander through the varioushotels, show venues, casinos, and other touristy sites to no apparentgood purpose, other than to showcase, well, Las Vegas. The scene atHoover Dam is another prime example. It is an interminable scene withno laughs. Throughout the movie, Chevy Chase is given nothing funny todo, and he reciprocates by appearing to show up for his parts betweenholes of golf. (And he looks nothing like the trim, tuxedoed pic on themovie poster. They must have airbrushed forty pounds off him.) BeverlyD'Angelo comes off best in her dalliances with Wayne Newton. The movieplods along, each scene as depressingly unfunny as the one precedingit. Surprisingly, 'Vegas Vacation' was fairly successful at the boxoffice, taking in almost $40 million (it COULDN'T have cost much tomake.) Which meant there was yet another chapter in the saga, theChase-less, awkwardly titled, 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2-Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure.'

Great Film

Very funny film one of the best National Lampoons films yet Chevy Chase isagenius, this is a good film to watch if you have enjoyed the previousLapoons hits. So go now and rent it from the store. Russ' character in thisis the best yet as he plays a rich gambler using a fake Id:-)

Extremely Funny Movie

Whenever I saw this movie I was laughing soo hard. This vacation is my favorite out of all of them so far. To this day our family still jokes about parts in that movie as well as the other vacations also. We love these movies because there is a lot of truth in them and it makes everyone laugh! This is truely one of the only movies I have really laughed that hard at. I would definitly suggest people see this if you want a good laugh.

Not as good as previous Vacations

If you enjoying seeing Las Vegas in films, then check this out since they film the movie all around Las Vegas. Not as many laughs compared to the other vacations, but worth checking out. Wayne Newton was great as himself in the movie and as usual, Randy Quaid was the man.

You cant go wrong with this series

This is one of the least funny of the Vacation movies, but it's funnynonetheless. I love Chevy Chase, and this entire movie series is always ariot if you ask me. In this movie--Clark Griswold has made some extra cash at work, and hedecides to take his family to Vegas. The laughs begin even before theyarrive in the city, with Clark and Ellen getting totally drenched with bluetoilet water on the plane...at the hotel when the receptionist tells Clarkthey have a wonderful dry cleaning service, he replies with-'oh, it's just abirthmark." This starts the fun, and it never really stops until near theend of the film, which I think could have been done a lot better. Thismovie has an awesome cast, with the guy--I forget his name--from Can'tHardly Wait, and the gorgeous Marisol Nichols as Audrey--who happens to beone of my favorite actresses (she's also on Showtime's original series,Resurrection Blvd.) The movie brings back Quaid as cousin Eddy, and hiscrazy family, which includes his daughter who is a stripper. It's a greatmovie, and a perfect addition to the Vacation series. It might not be asfunny as the others in the series, but it's worth a watch.

Doesnt live up to the original.

This movie didn't live up to its predecessers. There were some funny moments though. The dam was good. Randy Quaid's performance was better than Chevy Chase's performance. Rated PG

Not a jackpot!

Vegas Vacation is the last of the franchise and probably the second worst. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo look completely bored in this one, glad they didn't make another Vacation after this box-office flop. Randy Quaid reprises his role as the annoying and vile Eddie. The whole Vegas premise seemed like a good idea but to my chagrin this film isn't priceless.

Gets the number three spot

Well, Clark Griswold has so far botched a road trip, a Europeanvacation and (most memorably) a Christmas vacation; so why does hecontinue to make his family go through hell on his endless quest for afun vacation? That's easy; it's pretty enjoyable for us to watch :)"Vegas Vacation" sits comfortably as the third most enjoyable film inthe series; surpassing "European Vacation" but not as enjoyable as"Vacation" or "Christmas Vacation". It's pretty far reaching at timesbut there are solid moments here; such as Clark damn near destroying adamn and getting crazy (as only Clark Griswold can) playing cards andlosing everything.The Wayne Newton gag soon grows tiresome and everything concerningAudrey and Russ pretty much stinks but Randy Quaid delivers once againas obnoxious Cousin Eddie and Chase hasn't lost his touch as theworld's most annoying (yet somehow oddly endearing) family dad.

The kid is lucky

Can I adopt him. I love the way these vacation movies work out. Chevy messes it up bad, but Beverly hangs in there. Truly Wayne Newton was the better choice, but, hey, when your soul mate is chevy chase and it always works out in the end, then, passing up Wayne Newton probably is not something to regret. Loved the Blackjack dealer. And, well, Quaid was super. What a prize!!!!!

Funny. very Funny

This Film was HILARIOUS! I'm sorry, but I thought it wasgreat.Although Christmas Vacation remains my favorite of the series, this onewasn't bad. it certainly wsn't the worst, that honer goes to the Europeaninstallment in my opinion,but rusty getting the fake I.D. and winning the four cars is great, and whocan forget the third rate casino with War and "rock siccerspaper"
