An Unexpected Hit

Unforgettable reminds me of 'drama' series that aired in the earlies. It has that slowed pace that gets you hooked on the story. Charactersare layered with pure emotion. It leads you to believe that thesepeople very well exist in reality. Then there is Carrie. Most peoplehave commented on her memory skills. It leads me to think that some maynot like the actress Poppy Montgomery, but her talent as an actresssurpasses any superficial criticism. Be it the clothes she wears or herpride about her 'superpower', she is made human because of them.I understand how Carrie began her journey and the writers of thisseries have found a way to place subtle clues in each episode thatallows you to think deeper. This is what most series lack these days.It pulls you into this world that encourages you to feel for Carrie andher story. She is far from perfect. She seeks out thrills of life andwas lost when her sister died. A piece of her has struggled to survive.Any series that can achieve this connection has a true talent in thistelevision industry. Sadly not many see it because of the emotionaldepth they cannot achieve within themselves. How can they understand astory arc so detailed? This is far be it, one of the best seriestelevision has to offer. The characters represent the closest toreality characters portray. While each director, producer or editor onstaff attempt to place a measure of humor or something that can attractmore viewers, the series does not falter. There are those that see itfor it's value and appreciate the cast as human beings. Carrie's visionof herself in her memories are for us to see the exact moment shefocuses on something. It is a televised guide for us, that helps us seeinto her mind. This is one minor thing some put down to push thisseries off, but the lessons we learn from each mistake takes us on awhole new journey. This is what television needs.

Great show it better be renewed

Great show people!!! if you read my review, just watch one show and youwill get hooked. Is an amazing police show different from all others .I love Poppy Mongomery I watched her in Without a trace and was veryhappy to find out she was going to be the main actress inUnforgettable.I like the chemistry between Carry and detective Al Burns. I hope wecan see more of that relationship soon. It is interesting how Carrieuses her ability to remember everything to solve crimes. The writing isgreat and the whole cast works great together.I hope that they renew this wonderful show as it is a refreshingdifference from all other police shows. CBS should keep the show andput some heat by taking advantage on the chemistry between Carry anddetective burns Lots of potential for this show Ireally hope to see asecond season.

Interesting premise but ultimately forgettable

I wanted to like this show, I really did. But it suffers from too manyissues, and after 6 or 7 episodes, I've given up. Poppy Montgomery'sWAT character, Sam Spade, became extremely popular, and like so many TVactors whose characters skyrocket like that, the actor herself becamelazy. Although she attempts a decent American accent, her vowels areheavily colored with Australian diphthongs, and she really needs adiction coach. Her character, Carrie Wells, isn't even all that likable- she's a bit arrogant and ill-mannered, and completely fails to evokesympathy for her past. Unlike Jane Timoney in "Prime Suspect," however,Carrie isn't a brilliant detective, she just has a really good memory. The producers of the show and Montgomery herself apparently want toshow off her incredible physique, but she's so hardbodied it's almost acaricature. Tight, skimpy tank tops, heaving cleavage, and close-upshots of a butt made out of granite aren't really all that attractive. There was a recent web post somewhere about how Robin Tunney'sportrayal of Teresa Lisbon on "The Mentalist" shows women in lawenforcement in a positive and professional light - Montgomery'sappearance and performance in "Unforgettable" do just the opposite. So,I give up. Bye, "Unforgettable."

No. Forgettable

Because this is such an interesting premise (a woman uses her memory asa means to solve crimes), I decided to at least watch the pilot.Unfortunately, here is a show that doesn't translate from paper to TVscreen. Somehow, the characters and story just never gel. PoppyMontgomery doesn't bring any of her acting talent from "Without aTrace" with her. But then again, that was just a role played oppositeother actors. Unforgettable is inaptly titled: there's nothing hereworth remembering, or to make me want to watch a second episode. I'd besurprised if this lasted even a full season.3 out of 10

So incredibly annoying!

The premise of the show is a good one, and I feel that by making just afew changes in the main characters, I would look forward to watching! Acouple of reviewers hit the nail on the head. There is so little tolike about Carrie, and so little to respect in her boss. I feel sorryfor the more serious characters, plodding along, doing their jobs, andreceiving no recognition on the show. Now I'll be petty...why doesCarrie dress like an 18 year old, who shops at Discovery and dots (evenher "formal wear")?I guess I was hoping to find a replacement for Prime Suspect., whichwas an awesome and much more realistic show.

enjoyed this

Have just seen episode 2 here in the UK. I enjoyed this, a gutsy womantrusts in herself. I can see it's quite new as the actors aren'tsettled into the characters yet. But it's also someone who has had atrauma, so she's been there. Worth a lot more than all sorts of paperqualifications. There will have to be other things introduced into it,or just the memory thing could get a bit boring. But I find what's moreinteresting than the total visual recall thing is her attitude of ,'Iplay by my rules", this girl is not going to kiss ass. Whew, what arelief. So, if there could be some more nice complex plots that slowlylet us get to know Carrie and the other characters that would be great.I love in Bones how it took so long for people to get to know eachother - it felt real.

Misnamed.

Nothing particularly memorable here.Compelling concept, not compulsive viewing.Poppy is wearing her years well. Yeoman support cast. No idea how hyperthymesia actually works but the different viewpointsetc at her command are nothing like my ordinary powers of observationand recall.Even if it is an accurate depiction, still need to use it judiciously.Turning a moving tarp into a Hollywood production smacks ofdesperation.Therein lies the crux of the problem. Play it straight and get lost inthe crowd of cop shows or get needlessly fancy and lose viewerinterest. With or without the twist, simply fails to distinguish itself.Wish them well.Thank you.Bad to worse.Turning around at just the right time in a bowling alley and justlooking at the refreshment counter just as spotter/shooter collects hisorder was bad enough. But she's now helping other people remember. You see a man being killedalbeit reflected in a mirror and you need poppy to tell you, to closeyour eyes and breathe slowly to suddenly remember the killer's face ?Wow, Really ?Seems like a bunch of monkeys are hammering away at the keys. They latched onto this unusual ability as a selling point and theyclearly aren't smart enough to work it it into a series of episodes. To be fair they don't have much to work with. She was personallyinvolved in the crime in the pilot but now she's just another coparriving later at the crime scene like everyone else. The way they present it isn't even really so much remembering asobserving.Want to watch powers of observation ? Try Cumberbatch in Sherlock.http://imdb.com/title/tt1475582/Poppy and the lame back story aren't helping. When it comes toexpressing strong emotions, like all ordinary actors Poppy has a limitand it doesn't take her long to reach it. The murdered sister is a hackneyed plot device as in so many othershows. Mulder's abducted sister, Red John, Beckett's mom and on and on.May get better but doubt it and am done watching.

AWESOME new show!

I totally love everything about this show ... the concept is fantasticand actually believable! All of the actors are superb, particularlyPoppy Montgomery, Michael Gaston and Dylan Walsh! Also, the skepticismshown by team members Kevin Rankin and Daya Vaidya are absolutelyperfect! In a lot of ways, Carrie is the female version of Patrick Jane from TheMentalist. I love the strength and vulnerability displayed by Carrieand Patrick Jane. Jane's wife and child were murdered by Red John andPatrick feels responsible because he taunted Red John on television. With Carrie, the murder of her big sister, Rachel, when they werechildren, was a traumatic event that is compounded by the fact thatCarrie she can't remember specific details of Rachel's murder and itremains unsolved. It haunts Carrie as an adult because it's the ONLYthing in her entire life that she CAN'T remember! Carrie's childhoodexperiences with cops and shrinks investigating Rachel's murder, makeher a better cop as she is more aware of the trauma being experiencedby both victims and witnesses alike. Good writing, good acting and good time slot are all high praise toCBS! I just hope they will give Unforgettable a fair chance to developa strong following. Having Poppy Montgomery with her Criminal Minds fanbase and Michael Gaston with his Mentalist fan base are an added bonusfor the show. Having the show follow solid shows like NCIS and NCIS: LAmake Unforgettable's ratings almost a guarantee. Thanks, CBS! Tuesday night totally belongs to you!

Poppy is Unforgettable!!!

This is a great show mainly because of Poppy Montgomery. I loved herearlier show, "Without a Trace", and found her to be an interestingactress with a very expressive and sensitive face which displays manyemotions. She is also very soft spoken, not shrill, which is a greatchange from so many women police in the shows today. It's a good showand Poppy makes it a good show!! I'm not so sure I like the red hairthough, I think I preferred the blonde which she was for "Without aTrace"! Keep the show. I'm sure the stories will get better; andPoppy's character will grow and grow with her abilities and mannerisms. This is a winner!!

Awful and Forgettable.

Well, because of the positive reviews for this show, I decided to giveit more of a chance and watched a few more episodes - BIG MISTAKE!!! Itis absolutely torture to watch! Anyone that has anything good to sayabout this MUST be connected to it somehow and have a vested interestin it doing good. CBS - do not look at any positive reviews of thisshow, it is really, really bad and you probably should replace it -even with reruns of a show that was fairly interesting. This thing isjust BAD, BAD, BAD! The writing, the acting, the way it's put together,EVERYTHING!!!!Everything about it was horrible. The first 5 minutes the actors put onthe worst New York accents and inflections ever on screen - then theaccents and bad New Yorker mannerisms were completely gone for the restof the show. Matter of fact, the female lead is bad at doing just abasic American accent much less a particular New York accent. The wholeshtick of the show of her never forgetting anything is so lame anduseless. The story line of the episode was about the most boring withthe utmost weakly written script I have ever seen on a cop show. Heldno interest at all!! There is nothing appealing or interesting aboutany character and only mediocre acting done by anyone in the cast. Yougotta be kidding me - DO NOT watch, is waste of an hour that you'llwant back.

Refreshing change to reality TV

The other reviews criticizing her total recall, but yet taking time torecall something relevant to the case are bogus. She obviously needs tobe stimulated or have some pertinence to recall the memory. The factthat she should not see herself in the memories maybe valid but a sorryreason to dismiss the show. If someone has a special gift, who is tosay exactly how this gift works. I enjoy trying to figure out the casesand stimulating my mind versus watching mindless reality television. Itis not the best new show out there but it is definitely worth watching.I would compare it to Monk which an extremely popular show. The onlypart that I do not like about this show and many of the new shows isthe darkness used in shooting scenes. I do not understand the need forso much darkness and on the new televisions you can hardly see the darkscenes. The show is very refreshing change to reality television.

More like forgettable!

What do you get when you throw together two mediocre actors, add theminto a cop show and come up with a very unusual 'gift' for one...Thatshow would be unforgettable, which is sadly, quite forgettable. The pilot episode was woeful, the storyline was mundane and I didn'tfeel any connection to it, to the point that I couldn't care less whathappened at the end, although I could have easily written it.The pilot did play up the main issue for Poppy Montgomery's character, which is that her sister was murdered and she cannot remember anythingabout it and the killer has not been caught. We presume this is due tosome kind of post traumatic stress, but to be honest, it doesn't reallymake sense. My main issue with the show is probably the memory 'thing', at thestart she recalls, in perfect vividness, a date many years ago and afootball score, a drug that was invented etc. Yet later in the show, despite meeting him shortly after the scene, she fails to recognise hermemory in which she has previously seen the killer till near the end. This is further compounded by the scene in which she states that sheleft the police force because the memories were too much to bearbecause she cant forget anything, and in fact recalls everythinggraphically.Of course this is the first episode, it may prove to work better themore it goes on, so long as the story lines make sense and you canbacktrack and connect the dots, unfortunately, if the storylinecontinues in the vain that it is used to connect the latter pieces ofthe puzzle only, then this will die a death and quickly. For me, this is plain lazy script writing. I also note that the writerworked on without a trace, which presumably is why Poppy was chosen to'star'. If I had been casting, I would have gone with unknown actors.

Whats Wrong with You People???

How is it a fantastic show like "Unforgettable", that improves everyweek with wonderful character development, and a superb lead actress(Poppy Montgomery as Carrie Wells) fails to stimulate the US viewer?Yet ridiculous shows like "Amazing Race" or "Survivor" drone on yearafter year. I just don't get it.Oh, wait... I *do* get it. Most viewers are not interested in any showthat demands a bit of thinking. Hence the disappearance of such gems as"Life", "Dollhouse", "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", just to name afew. This imaginative show is quite reminiscent of "Monk", with a leadcharacter who has a special ability - "a gift AND a curse" - and a castof supporting characters who have to figure out their roles.Dive in to this delicious soufflé - you'll love it!

Unforgettable

I actually really really loved the concept of this show and am a hugefan of Poppy -- she is perfect for the part. I like how she has thisout of body experience (which it really isn't). It just shows you howshe puts her theory together by using her fantastic flawless memory - Iwill continue watching this show - CBS needs to give this show a chancebc its totally different from any other detective series. I also likeher backstory about her sister Rachael - it shows how vulnerableCarrie's character is and why she is not anxious becoming a detectiveagain. But, w/her abilities of course she would help out a lot. I alsolike the whole cast, Dylan Walsh is perfect as her ex boyfriend/partner-- ppl need to give this show a chance and not give up so easily, bc itwill progress and become even more interesting.

I really like it

I decided to record this show because I liked Poppy Montgomery when shewas in Without a Trace. I wasn't sure how the concept of this showwould play out and if it would be interesting to watch, but I was notdisappointed. The pilot had me hooked right away. It was filled withsuspense and kept me interested through the whole episode. I couldn't wait to see the 2nd episode. I really enjoyed the 2ndepisode too and the twist that was added as far as characterdevelopment. This show has great potential and I hope it stays on the air andcontinues to be good. The chemistry between the two leads is verystrong. I can't wait to see more.

just a vehicle for poppy

W.O.W. it really is a show that is made only for Poppy. she is waaayyytoo dominant! the other character are just slaves for her, they'redoing the leg work for her, and she acts like the master, justreceiving informations from hardwork of others and then just go do herstuff whatever she likes, without conforming with the others, and evenwithout the boss' agreement. she always stir the investigations, alwaysbe the one comes up with ideas, always be the one catching the bad guysat the end. And they make her the newbie in the team! they should havejust let her be the team leader, that's more make sense! reallycouldn't stand with Carrie character! i only watch a few episodes, the14th episode is good, the plot is good (except for the part that, again, Carrie is always too dominant), and the new M.E. character isgood. she fades away the domination from Carrie, finally anothercharacter is made smart!

disappointing after all

When I read about the show I built some expectations. Unfortunately, they weren't met by far. I went through two episodes, trying tounderstand the means this show is supposed to draw attention andprovide amusement of any kind, then I finally gave up.The concept is interesting, but its potential was wasted. The plot islazy and boring - basically you have to watch like 90% of developmentwhich has only one purpose to kill some time. When 'the magic' breaksthe case it's too late. The damage was done.I do not want to discourage anyone. Watch it and see it for yourself.Maybe what I couldn't get or use will work for you.

bungled directing 101

I might have been able to enjoy this show except for an obvious flaw inthe depiction of the main character's memories. Several scenes wereshot in flashback accompanied by her "third person" body looking at thescene from a non-existent perspective. You can't see yourself inmemories, or anything else from outside your body. I guess thisdirector was last in class and trying to follow the gimmicks of WithoutA Trace (disappearance fades) and Cold Case (flashback wipes). Thissort of reminds me of how stupid I thought Ghost Whisperer was when youhad to sit through a ghost talking to Melinda, and then Melindarepeating the tale to a third party. That's not an analogy for thisdirecting gaffe, just an observation of how to annoy viewers!

Great show but...

...there are some mistakes which I cannot ignore. The way she thinksback to use her flawless memory is one. How can you have an out of body3 dimensional experience when all you could see where things in frontof you? They should just stuck to the POV (point of view) recollectionof hers rather than Carrie seeing herself from the side as if she'swatching the show. Also I'm on the 4th episode now and a character whowas involved in the case in the 3rd episode just walked in and Carrieis asking who he is! Anyway I do like the characters, the police part of it as well as howshe deals with her "gift" like people did in the first season ofHeroes: Her normal life is heavily impacted no matter how much of ahelp she is as a detective or a witness to crime scenes.Sack the person in charge of continuity and make sure things are notover-simplified (the lack of POV view etc) just so it can appeal topeople with a lower IQ :P

Something a little different

I really liked something a little different than the usualpolice/medical examiner shows. This added quirk could just make it muchmore enjoyable. It seems well-cast and just needs time to develop thepremise and the cast into a good show. At least give it more than oneepisode before pounding it to death. I find that most of the situationcomedies given to us to watch (such as Two and a half Men) are muchmore inane and unwatchable, some after a number of seasons. I thinkmost of the posts on this new show are like critics have always been:unable to give a show a season to prove itself. It takes a bit to grow, like most things. I do admit that having the lady appear in her ownflashbacks is a little odd, but perhaps in the future they could handleit like they handle the flashbacks of Gibbs in NCIS; sort of make thema little fuzzy around the edges so you would know what they are. But Ithink Poppy is worth at least giving a chance to see how she is goingto handle things. Hope they find a few happy things to put into herlife. She had a lot of heaviness in Without A Trace. She needs to finda little more joy in this character. (Writers.....listen up!)
