Storyline

Plot Summary:

What made the original Toy Story so great, besides its significant achievement as the first-ever feature-length computer animated film, was its ability to instantly transport viewers into a magical world where it seemed completely plausible that toys were living, thinking beings who sprang to life the minute they were alone and wanted nothing more than to be loved and played with by their children. Toy Story 3 absolutely succeeds in the very same thing--adults and children alike, whether theyve seen the original film or not, find themselves immediately immersed in a world in which Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), Ham (John Ratzenberger), Rex (Wallace Shawn), the aliens, and the rest of Andys toys remain completely devoted to Andy (John Morris) even as hes getting ready to pack up and leave for college. Woody scoffs at the other toys worries that theyll end up in the garbage, assuring them that theyve earned a spot of honor in the attic, but when the toys are mistakenly donated to Sunnyside Daycare, Woody is the only toy whose devotion to Andy outweighs the promise of getting played with each and every day. Woody sets off toward home alone while the other toys settle in for some daycare fun, but things dont turn out quite as expected at the daycare thanks to the scheming, strawberry-scented old-timer bear Lots-o-Huggin (Ned Beatty). Eventually, Woody rejoins his friends and they all attempt a daring escape from the daycare, which could destroy them all. The pacing of the film is impeccable at this point, although the sense of peril may prove almost too intense for a few young viewers. Pixars 3-D computer animation is top-notch as always and the voice talent in this film is tremendous, but in the end, its Pixars uncanny ability to combine drama, action, and humor in a way that irresistibly draws viewers into the world of the film that makes Toy Story 3 such great family entertainment. At best, Toy Story 3 stands as a refinement of Toy Story 2, a movie which was an unnecessary sequel to begin with.

But for a nip tuck, Toy Story 3 might be a masterpiece. Heck, I'll take it anyway.

I hope this is the last Toy Story...a fitting and moving final chapter that takes the premise of the first movie to its logical conclusion.

a wonderful way to say goodbye

I can't recall if I ever attached myself to stuffed animals orfigurines; I know I was obsessed with all incarnations of MightyMorphin' Power Rangers, and I had a weakness for shiny race cars—but noWoody or Buzz Lightyear in the bunch that I was inconsolable if I everlost it in the yard one day after an intense playtime. My sister stillhas this Build-A-Bear named Kyle that she sleeps with nightly; I neverhad anything like that. I had a dog, or seven. And yet, even if I can't connect the same way Andy does with his toysin the "Toy Story" trilogy (it's safe to say the series is over afterthis one, right? Cuz I really can't see where they could go fromhere.), these films have raised me on awesome animation and friendship. The first two—both favorites—contain moments that, even 15 years olderthan whenever the series started, my heart melts and I have to excusetears for cat allergies, or something. I re-watched part two hoursbefore catching the latest part in theaters: Jessie's background songis more heart-tugging than that other Sarah McLachlan that plays overthat abused animal commercial; the conceding of a short life full ofhappiness instead of a longer, less enjoyable one at the end ispoignant (I'm reminded of a line from "Steel Magnolias": "I wouldrather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothingspecial").The third one, while giving me the necessary closure needed, wasmissing in this department, I think. Don't get me wrong, "Toy Story 3"is a completely deserving of being a part of the seemingly endlessseries of wonderful Disney/Pixar films—but it's more comical thanheartwarming; less impressionable, though a wonderful send-up to thefamiliar characters in the moment.Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen) are back, and they're ageappropriate to the fanbase—they're 15 years older than when we firstsaw them, and about 11 years since the last time. Kept in great care byAndy, they still have decades to go before they wear and tear.Unfortunately for the toys, Andy has grown up and playing with cowboyand astronaut figurines is surprisingly less macho than playing onlaptop computers or texting friends on a cell phone. In fact, Andy isabout the age of heading off to college; any college kid bringing a toychest full of admittedly hilarious play toys is surely the guy to findhis underwear in the freezer and itching powder in his jock strap.Hazing would be a bitch. So, it's either off to the attic, in the trash can, or off to a daycare as a part of a donation for the toys. Except Woody, which isinadvisable in being taken to college with Andy, apparently blissfullyunaware of the hazing that will occur. Because this film is rated G,let's focus not on college life but the toys freaking out because theircomfy refuge in a toy chest is threatened and they are likely to behauled off to day care. Which seems nice—there's a cute pink bear, anambiguously gay Ken doll, and assorted toys to join in on the fun—butthe kids aren't as gentle with the toys as Andy is, to say the least.Oh, and Woody, who you'll remember was supposed to go to college withAndy, winds up going to the day care with his friends whenever bags areconfused and one is going to the trash and the toys might gettossed…but then they escape off screen. And then Woody seems to be theonly one that wants to go home to Andy (he was the only one that didn'tget thrown in a bag to be put elsewhere), and then so he escapes—onlyto overhear that the day care his friends are at seem to be soft andcuddly, but that pink bear is actually a dictator with a horribly sadbackstory. Sure, why not? And, if you couldn't guess, Woody goes backand tries to get his friends out of danger. Does he succeed? Here's ahint: it's Disney, and it's rated G.Not that a doomed ending should be expected; for what it's worth, it'salways hilarious (especially the opening sequence, getting the film offto a wonderful start that holds through), and more adventurous than itshould be—with gags galore. And the ending, minus the "When She LovedMe" moment from part two, is a wonderful way to say goodbye to thetoys. Pixar has done it again: they've created a somewhat intelligentmovie with plot themes that could appeal to the children as much as itwill the adults. Or me, the twenty something that grew up with theoriginal at age seven. It's not perfect, but it's very good.Rating: *** and a half out of ****

Someone told me youre really good with toys...

Before I kick off in my too-predictable rave of Pixar's latestmasterpiece, let me just (try to - god forbid) explain just howimportant these films are to me. Without Toy Story and its sequel, mybest friend would not be my best friend, my childhood would besufficiently less exciting, and perhaps most crucial of all, I wouldnot have my passion for character, animation, maybe even film. Itsounds like a cliché, but these films made my childhood. Given that Iconsider Toy Story 2 the greatest animated film of all-time, Toy Story3 *had* to succeed. If you can't be arsed to read the rest of thisreview: it did.As always with Pixar, the plot is slight, giving way for the audienceto explore the characters, letting the situation develop naturally. Thetoys end up at a terrifying day-care centre where even its name reeksof misery, and, once they realise all is not as it seems (turns out theinnocent-looking toddlers are slobbering machines, and those nice newcharacters have a few not-so-nice tricks up their made-in-Chinasleeves) do all they can to escape. What remains of the film plays outlike The Great Escape with McQueen in a cowboy hat, and Pixareffortlessly intertwine elements of heist movie, slapstick comedy, prison escape drama, and heartfelt, unexpectedly indie comedy. But this is not a "great, very good, 9/10" film. No, Toy Story 3, likeits predecessors, hits home on a very different level. The two earlierfilms had a nagging sense of longing and innocence lost, never moresuccessful than in the achingly beautiful "When She Loved Me" sequencein the first sequel. Toy Story 3 amps up this unflinchingsentimentality, continuously threatening to tug at the heartstringswhile never, ever, seeping into the dreaded cheesiness that has almost,ALMOST killed some of Pixar's lesser efforts. However, what's perhaps most impressive about Toy Story 3 is its"times-are-a-changin'" theme. Very subtly, the team at the world's #1movie studio have added numerous sly digs at the changing way of life.Instead of the first film's tacky traffic cones, the gang use - getthis - a recycling box to escape being found out; Andy and Molly'sattitudes, towards their parents in particular, have grown cynical andimpatient; and, in one of the film's many heartbreaking moments, Rexthe dinosaur ponders how much they'll be going for on eBay. Whetherthese are all delicately planned in-jokes, the Pixar team's jabs at thetechnological age that made them and may eventually break them, or ifI'm reading too much into it, it's one of the many strokes of creativebrilliance that Toy Story 3 is crammed to the brim with. There are also a boxful of new toys for Pixar to play with: Lotso, thedark, twisted teddy bear; Mr Pricklypants, the dramatic hedgehog; Ken,hilariously camp love interest to dumb blonde Barbie; Peas in a pod, surely one of Pixar's cutest creations; and toddler Bonnie (thinkMonsters Inc.'s Boo), who sets up the trilogy's finest moment (more onthat later). Toy Story 3 effortlessly mixes the blend of oldfavourites, and brand new favourites-in-the-making. Lotso is the mostinteresting and complex character of the lot, and may be Pixar's bestever villain.Toy Story 3 is absolutely packed with standout scenes. Ken's fashionshow montage sticks out, as do the opening action movie sequence, theheartbreaking home video montage (recapturing You've Got A Friend In Meto deliciously bittersweet effect) and the Sunnyside crew's late nightpoker-game bitching session. But despite all these memorable, funny andsad scenes, there is nothing - NOTHING- that could prepare you for thefinal five minutes of this film. If you thought When She Loved Me wassad, just wait till you reach the end of Toy Story 3...After all is said and done, and our beloved toys are finally back withtheir rightful owner, Pixar decide to pull one last trick on us. As alife-long fan of the Toy Story films, the most painful thing that couldpossibly happen would be for Andy to give the toys away. Instead, thisturns out to be the film's greatest moment. I got the feeling when Iwas watching it that this was the scene every single thing Pixar hasever done was building up to. This, unbearably sad but guaranteed tobring a big smile to even the hardest of middle-aged men, is everythingthat is great about Pixar, the best thing they've ever made; full ofemotion, a genius mixture of terrifying reality and tongue-in-cheekfantasy. As Andy went through the toys, one by one, these amazingcharacters we all know and love being given to the new generation ofAndy, an amazing feeling struck me: I was feeling everything Andy wasfeeling. We've come to know these characters so well, become soinvested in their adventures, that for Andy to give them up is for us,the audience, to give them up. I can't remember the last time I criedso much, became so excited to see what would happen next, but so sad toleave these characters behind. The perfect ending to what must surelybe the greatest trilogy of all-time.More than just a talking toy picture. And the best film - animated orotherwise - I've seen in years.

I'm 22 years and I'm proud to say that I'm going to watch Toy Story 3acting and exciting like a 5 year old boy, and guess what...I don'tcare.Toy Story has a huge place in my heart and a unique emotionalattachment to it, it was my door to enter the great world of Pixar. So ending with Toy story 3, where Woody, Buzz and the toys are on agreat adventure to discover where their will be after Andy is going tocollege, Meeting new toys and facing a lot of danger. And the ending (No Spoiler) is just Perfect, where it creates a moviewhere you can laugh so hard and cry at the same time. I've also learnedsome really valuable from Toy Story 3, is that "Life goes on" andyou'll know what i mean when you watch it.Weather it's 1,2 or "specially" 3, Every single scene on any of these 3movies makes me feel happy, warm, hopeful and peaceful. Brilliant, just brilliant!

I thought Toy Story couldn't be topped, then they made number two, which is on an equal par to the original. When I heard that after a fewyears, they were going to make a third film, I was worried that itwould be disappointing and nowhere near as good as the other two. Icouldn't have been more wrong. It is not on a par, it is better, to thepoint of being on a different level altogether. It is already in mine, and my 22 year old son's list of top five all time favourite films, after just one viewing. Even if your children have grown up (likemine), you will still love this film as much as you had when they wereyoung.

It's sadder and scarier than its predecessors, but it also may be the most important chapter in the tale.

Youve got to admire the heart that goes into making these movies and its especially obvious in films like this!

'TOY STORY 3': Four Stars (Out of Five) Woody (once again voiced by Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) andall of the rest of the gang are back for this third 'TOY STORY'adventure, eleven years after the last film. It once again rehashes thestory of Woody and the others feeling threatened and unwanted by theirowner Andy (once again voiced by John Morris) as he turns 17 and leavesfor college. They're mistakenly dropped off at a daycare where tiredolder toys want them to be the sole victims of the wild and obnoxiouschildren there. Only Woody knows they're truly wanted back home anddoes his best to rescue them and get them back to Andy. The film is only co-written by the original two films' creator JohnLasseter and is directed by Lee Unkrich, who served as a co-director on'TOY STORY 2'. It does seem a little old and drawn out at times, earlyon, but then it really builds to a somewhat seriously suspenseful andemotional conclusion. Some of the drama and humor seems forced but someof it feels really genuine and funny as well, especially as the filmgoes on. I don't agree that this is the masterpiece that some aredescribing it but it's definitely a lot better than most other kids'films out there (as most Pixar films are). The 'TOY STORY' movies aren't my favorites of the Pixar films; I reallylike 'THE INCREDIBLES' and 'WALL-E' the best, but they're definitelybetter than stuff like 'MONSTERS, INC.' and 'A BUG'S LIFE'. The thingyou have to really admire about all of the Pixar films though is theeffort and passion of the entire team of filmmakers that went intomaking them; this is definitely obvious on the screen. The greatestexample of this is 'AVATAR' but all film really is the mostcollaborative art form there is and therefor, in my opinion, the mostimpressive one. You've got to admire the heart that goes into makingthese movies and it's especially obvious in films like this.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYbw_OZUFso

A well-written piece thats timely for parents and kids.

The movie did the impossible . . . again. They wrote and shot a moviesequel that outdid the previous one, as the second Toy Story did to thefirst film. This one was particularly well-written, and as a parent, Ithought it was poignant to me and my children (both of which were under10 at the time of the first flicks) considering that the story wasbased on the very realistic passage of time that stands between thisfilm and Toy Story 2. In that regard, it was just as moving andtouching for both myself and my wife as it was for our children, sinceour ages and situations are similar to Andy and his family in thisthird flick where the empty nest looms ever closer. The humour was great and broad enough to please everyone, with thecharacters acting just as fresh as they were as if they had just comeout of the box, and despite my fears of them being somewhat 'rehashed',they came off as more interesting and funnier than the first timesaround. And, as per usual, the CG animation was up to Pixar's usualstandard of excellence.

One of The Best Animation This Year

I wasn't so impressed by the two previous series before. But then it'sPixar and it's Toy Story, the final. After watching in 2D, I must saythat this movie is really great. The movie follows the toys planning amove out because Andy is going to college, but it all stared with amisunderstanding between the toys. When they though they have come to abetter place that's when the hell started. The comedy is still therealthough the seriousness is more added. The screenplay maybe is notvery great like other Pixar's movies this time. But the heart is stillthere or maybe more that Toy Story 1 and 2. The action is genius and inthe end I promise you that you will cry or maybe shedding tears maybebecause the fact this movie is ended or maybe because of the finalscene that you'll see. Worth it!

Toy Story 3 has all the sass, action, and derring do of the Indiana Jones movies, the charm, admiration, and fun of its predecessors and cousins at Pixar, and enough laughter and imagination to fuel generations to come,

Still great

I have yet to see the first Toy Story, but saw the second one about half a million times, saw this one and even i almost cried. One of the rare films that stay strong in a series. Great for kids and even adults.Great thing about this is they have action figures and video games too. A perfect combo for kids for the Holidays.

Beats Toy Story 2!

Toy Story 3 is the movie of the year! Pixar did it once again with alltheir creativity and the director was fantastic. Usually sequels turnout bad and are rusty but this one is excellent, there is no bettersequel than Toy Story. The plot of the story is unexpected, wild, and definitely comical inall aspects. The movie is for all ages from babies to seniors. Everyonelaughs and Buzz is extravagant! If I could give this movie a 1082374128410924, I definitely would!Great work Pixar! Watching this movie is a MUST!

Sometimes, before you can say hello, you must say goodbye.

May be small spoilers below!!!!This was such a great movie. I went with my mom and stepsister to see this. So there is an age difference. We all enjoyed it. We laughed and really got into the story. The strange thing though is that after like 45 minutes in I started to cry. I couldn't believe it. Don't get me wrong, this is not a drama. But maybe it has a little bit here and there. The movie is about Andy getting ready to go to college. The toys just want him to pick them up and play with them. As he is getting ready for school, his mom tells him he has to put stuff for the attic in the attic box, stuff he is taking with him in the college box and trash in the trash box. The toys are all worried about where they will end up. Things happen and the wrong thing gets put in the wrong spot and then the adventure begins. The toys need to find there way back to Andy. At least some of them do. After something happens, some just want to stay where they are. They soon realize that the great new place they are may not be all they thought it was. There are some crazy kids and an angry bear they have to deal with and figure out how to get out of the new prison and get back to Andy. That is all I can say. I don't want to tell you the whole movie. As I said at the beginning, I cried. Just the fact that he had to leave his stuff and they were lonely made me sad. I was going to come home and take my collectable stuff ut of the box because I felt bad for it! That's strange I know. I have the DVDs of the firs two. I don't remember if they made me feel a little pity or sadness. It's great for the kids because it is funny and memorable. It is the same for the adults, while at the same time it may make them think about being a kid and bring some great memories from your past. Either way, weather you saw the first two or not, this is a must see. We saw the non 3D version and it looked amazing.

Pixar has done it again!

Toy Story 3 has Andy's toys trying to find a new place where they belong after Andy gets ready to go away to college. Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), however hasn't given up on Andy and plans on going away with him. But Woody's toy friends need his help because their stay at a daycare center isn't the paradise they thought it would be. Can Woody help them escape and make it home in time to go with Andy ? The movie is a very satisfying end, for the movies that is, there's going to be a short before Cars 2 I heard. So we'll still get to see the characters that we love. But Toy Story 3 still feels like farewell and it has a very emotional ending that's bound to make you cry happy tears. Pixar has done it again because so far Toy Story 3 is the best movie that I've seen this year. Just see it, but bring tissues!

PARENTS NEED TO SUCK IT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING.

This movie was fantastic. Absolutely the best out of all the Toy Story movies. And yes I was balling my eyes out at the end. But it's getting ridiculous how angry parents are getting over this movie over how "scary" it was. Well do you remember in the first Toy Story when Sid basically mutilated and tortured his toys? HE WAS GONNA BLOW UP BUZZ. It was creepy/scary to see all those mutant toys. Mind you that I first saw Toy Story when I was about 5. But I toughened up. I wasn't gonna go crying over it. I'm almost positive that I wouldn't be crying about Toy Story 3 too if I was young. Keep in mind that majority of Disney/children movies have frightening bits, seriously think about it. Aladdin, it was the cave of wonders. Beauty and the Beast, when Gaston was gonna kill the Beast AND the any of the wolf scenes. Snow White, running through that creepy forest. The Lion King, when Mufasa was trampled to death. See where I'm getting at? Not everything is rainbows and butterflies. I do admit that Toy Story 3 definitely has more adult aspects to it than the others but Andy grew up and so did the toys. If you want to censor your children then go ahead and let them watch Sesame Street for the rest of their childhood. Whoops maybe not.. they might get scared by all the monsters.
