The Great Ratings left when Darabont left

The Walking Dead is starting to turn into The Boring Dead. If youcompare both the 1st and 2nd season you can tell the 1st season wentwayyy faster and stayed close to the original comic book story. I hadhigh hopes for the show, after Darabont's departure, after watching thefirst episode, but the next 5 turned into something that should be putinto a daytime soap opera (which is not the walking dead style) Ithought the budget cut would be a good thing to make improvements inthe casts acting and writing. It didn't after the first episode of thesecond season. If you look at the 1st season, it followed nearly more than half of thestory that originated in the comic. Now the 2nd season is somethinglike, "wait what?" Turning into something confusing and hard tounderstand for those who read the comic books. I can understand thatsome people want something different than just watching the entirecomic book story on TV, but the 2nd season is just too much based onwhat I've seen.I don't know what Kirkman (comic book writer and executive producer) istrying to prove with this entire new aspect. First Otis's death, thenSofia's death at the mid-season finale. Now compare that to the 1stseason where the first 6 episodes ACTUALLY followed at least most ofthe story aspects of what was in the comic series.I still appreciate something entirely different from the comic story, but it's just not fitting the walking dead aspect story at all. The 1stseason marked something very promising, but now with Darabont gone andwith Glen Mazzara in his place, the show is turning into a spiralingdownfall, even after the comeback of the mid season finale for thesecond season.AMC do yourself a favor, get rid of Mazzara and bring Darabont back, orkeep Mazzara and bring Darabont back. AMC is just killing the show withall this crap after the end of the 1st season.

Disappointed

I really wanted to like this show.. Zombies are great (no idea why theyare always the same in every movie/series they appear in.. don't recallevery reading a medical journal with a definition of "CronicalZombieatus") don't get me wrong. The problem with this series is thatthe zombies are more interesting than the living people.. They are onesided, boring creatures that you don't care if they get eaten by aformer member of the civilization now turned manfleshmuncher.. Theactors are doing their best, but all we get are three kinds of people:Really good honest people (two policemen among those, original..),really bad people (rednecks who hate African Americans and Asians..)and really disgusting dead people who have lost what made them human, and are now living dead, who only act on their basic need, food. Freudwill be very disappointed to know that we lose our sexual drive, beforewe stop eating..But anyways, the five stars are for that Episode one corpse withoutlegs outside the hospital.. Excellent acting, and great CGI!

Hardcore and Intense

If you think this some other zombie drama think again this isdefinitely not the kind of show you would want to see in front of10year old's.1) The camera angles are average. they could have done a better job onthem but at the same time there is nothing too specific missing in thevideography.2) The show is graphic intense and hardcore, expect to see a lot ofblood as they kill the evil "walkers" and chop them into pieces.3) Casting is weak and there is a scope of improvement. Again nothingto be too worried about.4) Nothing too great or overwhelming about the story line, if you haveseen other zombie movies you have guessed it till now. However i wouldreally hope that later on those awkward and lame love triangles with azombie in it don't start.5) So far the episode starting and ending is good and the element ofmystery is maintained.Overall They got a lot of things right with The Walking Dead one of thebaddest ass TV shows out there and definitely a show that all thezombie movie fans (including me) will love to watch. Highly recommendit.

The best thing related to zombies I have ever seen.

I love anything to do with zombies. Zombie movies, zombie games, andnow a really good zombie show. The thing I like best about it though ishow much it dips into the minds of the characters. It shows theemotions that can come up in dire situations. Lust, hate, fear, depression, aggression, and the most important of all hope. It reallydigs deep into the mind, and it delivers deeper than I could possiblyimagine with the zombie genre. It delivers some great action, awesomegore, and a great apocalyptic setting, but that is all secondaryachievement. The prime achievement is the plot, the characters, thedialogue, and the emotions which is different than most if not allzombie movies. Most of them are just drive by zombie killing fun, butwhat this show does is powerful. The acting is also wonderful fromeveryone in the cast. The direction is also wonderful capturing theapocalyptic world. In the end this is a show that I will be watchingnext season for sure.

BORING....not scary...lousy effects....

Well I feel like I am the only one who does not think this is any good?I thought the effects, especially the make up on the zombies , was bad,and not scary at all.The pace of the show is way too slow for my taste .I consider myself a horror movie and I really wanted to like this butto me is just felt they put zombies in the show; 'LOST",which I alsothink is boring and lame...I was really looking forward to this...I am very disappointed ....Not scary at all....

Awesome but not flawless.

Great show with interesting characters.Personally I think the weakest moments are when walkers are on screen, where my main issue is the lack of following the time-line and keepingto a given concept. A classic example is when a person runs like amadman with a stumbling walker behind who still catches up? And whenclearly stated at the Healthdepartment that only the smallest piece ofbrain works to keep them stumbling and chewing, still walkers sometimesappear "smart" and tactical, like jumping a fence or crawling under it.Understandably necessary for the story but still sometimes too obviouswhich makes it somewhat lame. And the game-like tunnel vision is drawna bit too far when a character can be surprised by a walker sneaking upa inch from his cheek without notice. People DO have a somewhat 180degree angle of vision. These are still small details that only keeps me from taking it from aalready high vote too a full 10 star.

A Disappointing Melodramatic Soap Opera

This show is so weighed down with "talking heads" melodrama it shouldbe on the Lifetime Network. I'm all for intelligent, dramatic horror, but this is watered down like a soap opera. I'll skip the remaining seasons. And that's too bad. This really couldhave been something special. At one point it was rumored Darabont had fired his writing staff. I washappy at first, till Hurd announced that it wasn't true. This series should be compelling, profound and serve as an exemplarysocial commentary. Instead, it becomes bogged down in its own rhetoricand leaves little to discuss. The acting is quite strong and the special make-up effects make mostfeature films look third rate (hence the five rating instead of one),but that isn't enough to carry the sappiness and long-winded talkingthat permeates the tale. What a shame.

Brief Analysis

The Walking Dead uses numerous rhetorical devices within the programmeto induce fear and a sense of dread into its audience. As Rick emergesfrom the hospital and is blinded by the light outside the shot framesthe door and Rick's figure, and due to the sun bleaching out the shot, his figure is black. In this shot we only see what Rick sees, thusputting us in Rick's position and in turn creating suspense. As Rick returns home, again we feel like we are the character as thecamera sweeps round the house at eye level. As Rick becomes emotionaland collapses, his frustration is shown through the use of fast pacedjump shots reflecting his own confusion and even trying to convince theaudience that this could perhaps be a dream. One of the most important items to note is the use of sound, or eventhe lack of sound within the programme. As Rick walks through the townwe feel his loneliness and solitude as there is a lack of non-diegeticmusic accompanying his journey. As Rick fires the gun within the tank,we feel his pain and confusion as all other background noise is muffledby the ringing in his ears. The effects added in during the editingprocess helps to convey this pain as the camera blurs and merges as itmoves.

The Walking Dead

If I say that this show beats almost all I have seen through the years(and I have seen a lot), it would be a lie, because its unique, andthere wasn't, so far, a TV show with such theme. The Waling Dead findsthe perfect balance between drama and horror and catches youimmediately, so your desire to see what happens next increases withevery minute. The concept keeps you wonder when the untainted peoplewould ever live again normal life, and in the same time you hope thatthis won't happen ever, and the supreme delight when watching the showwill continue for ever! I really hope it will keep the charm, and AMCwouldn't take advantage of the high interest and make it anotherpointless extension of seasons.

Opportunity missed - just another soap

I have seen all of Season 1 plus 5 or 6 episodes season 2 and theprogramme has declined. It is now just another soap. The real interestfor me would be how the group would survive in a broken down society -finding food, water, shelter, medicine. Instead the plot involves aseries of manufactured accidents (falling off horses, down wells, beingaccidentally shot) linked by the standard soap sub plots (unwantedpregnancies, illicit love affairs). For me it's an opportunity missed -this could have been so much more. You have the opportunity to tell astory of survival against an extraordinary set of circumstances butinstead it wants us to worry about very mundane matters.

The Fumbling Dead - sometimes

I wanted to like it. Enough that I've seen half or so of the secondseason. Every episode, several stupid events happen, surrounded byvoluminous filler jabbering, and one or two gaping plot holes. Oh, andalmost half an hour of commercials if you watch it on cable. The story is almost always stagnant, much more so in the second season,I feel. I'll look at some reviews later to see if they're still up tothe same shenanigans. And I might check out the comic book, because I really haven't had myfill of good zombie apocalypse fair, and people say it's much moresolid than the show. At least I can still play Left 4 Dead 2...Have yall seen Quarantine? I like that movie.OK OK OK. UPDATE: at my mother's behest I watched the two episodesafter my damning review, and I'm happy to admit they did not continuethe downward spiral I was bemoaning, in fact they won me back overwith, I thought, a better episode than any previous, including thefirst season. Stuff finally happened! And it made sense character-wise,plot-wise and logical-wise, in addition to being interesting anddramatic. So, god I hope they remain afloat with the quality.

My new cant-miss series

I was skeptical enough about this series that I didn't bother watchingthe premier when it aired. It wasn't until a week later at 3:00 in themorning that I caught the first episode. My mind was completely blown.I'm not a real fan of any "serious" zombie films. Shawn of the Dead andZombieland were it for me. The Walking Dead proves, however, that it ispossible for a series to be serious and also be about the zombieapocalypse. Unfortunately, this season is only six episodes long, butthe good news is it has been renewed for a second season of 13episodes. This is a must-watch series for anyone and everyone. Give ita chance and odds are you'll get hooked.

This is whats wrong with American TV!

First let me state that I was hooked to the first series, gripping andentertaining, Andrew Lincoln bolstering the acting line-up, all goodstuff. Yet, sadly we move on to series two which is now twice as longand destroyed all pace to the series, after a well paced start with sixepisodes to series one with good characters and firm direction tobuilding the series into a compelling watch. The cliffhangers in a"continuation" series need to be much, much stronger, I put this downto greedy American production either make a compelling one series dramaor make short snappy series. I hope this series does not turn into amere "tune-in" series with no real point or direction ie. Lost (aseries that could of been a landmark single series but became soconvoluted that I don't think even the writers knew where it wasgoing.) Just to round up I'm not having a go (well sort of) its more ahopeful plea not to ruin this series with good potential.

It has all been done before....

Nothing new here, acting good (not the zombies) but plot old news...don't waste your time watching this unless your desperate to kill sometime. Some TV series do have really good plots, this isn't one of them.By the end of the pilot I could see the story line was nothing new...inthe first 10 minutes I thought I was watching one of those earlierhorror movies - guy wakes up in hospital/world slipped into zombieinfestation - he then makes load stupid, unbelievable decisions. I suspected nothing new was coming in the plot... and I was notdisappointed.Storyline details very predictable... may have got better ratings as aone shot 90 minute program, but as a series - no way enough new storyin this for a sustainable TV series.

Not as good as it is said.

Some nice solos by the actors in showing their emotions, good make up.But, I always wonder if the makers of such big-budget nonsense ever didany research on how people would act in real life in general. Well, NOTlike that. OK, maybe too much to ask from a "big" TV show like that. The make up is great, the computer graphics added sometimes veryunrealistic. Plus for example: Zombies eating horse, actually none ofthem puts anything in their mouths. Too expensive? The characters -they change a little from time to time, but all in all: Bad, just bad. Some racist unlikeable hillbillies, that loose their mind about everysecond. Seriously that one hillbilly-brother tries to smash in peoplesheads about each second time he appears. I wonder why an actor wouldn'task at one point: "Seriously, I have to freak out again?!" Than thereare some black guys, acting like Hollywood black guys, an AsianAmerican, acting stereotypically Asian. Some women, washing and crying, being helpless, sometimes maybe adding something to what the men arejust about to decide with weapons in each others mouths or if they areasked. And an friendly, kind, old guy. Being friendly, old and kind.Well, and some other seemingly unimportant people that do what they arebest at: Bad acting. Really, most of the people in this are bad actors- or still learning or whatever. the smaller the role the worse theacting it seems. The side characters are just showing awful acting. Theplot - pleaaase, it's OK in a comic-book, but the guy who wakes up in ahospital with the whole world around him being zombies, asks about onetime what happened. Imagine anybody being in this kind of situation. Iwould spend one day just saying: "What the hell happened here? Am Idreaming?" Wouldn't just walk around looking for your family - Who hefinds in the area around Atlanta which region has about 5Mio. people,in one day, by coincident. So his best friend. Seriously? The onlysurvivors are 30% people knowing each other. Did they do zombiesurvival evenings? Also, I have to say that the darkness and danger oftheir situation is not shown very well. I can't feel it. The zombiesseem nice visually, but they don't seem very dangerous. At least not asdangerous as endangering mankind dangerous. Look, if these 10 peoplefigure out to survive this for about 2 month, with simple guns andlittle amount of ammo, what do you think an... Well let's not go there. The situation just seems unrealistic, and one has plenty of time tothink about that, because of bad acting, bad dialogues, bad writing andnoticeable computer effects. It has his moments and is trying to godeeper than other zombie thingies, but it is still not a good series atall. It has just too many mistakes and too much Hollywood in it too begood. It's mediocre. Good critics and a rating on IMDb around 9??? Idon't get it - yes it is entertaining because of the good lookingzombies and some nice parts of well shown desperation, maybe somesplatter if you are into that, but that many people fall for that? Thisshow has holes everywhere. If you say it entertains you that's OK, butif someone says it's good!? No. I guess people are just fascinated byan actually evolving storyline and such deep characters (for a zombiemovie!!!) in combination to zombies. They had the chance to makesomething good here. Because they have enoiugh time to let a realfrightened odissey happen and to make the characters believable and toshow a lot of depth and reality. They did not. Just another US seriesthat is somewhat entertaining. Well, as long as people eat what yougive them...

Most disappointing show on television.

I really had high hopes when I heard they were making a live-actionWalking Dead television series. Having just recently read the firstfifty issues of the comic book series I was very hopeful that the showcould deliver an awesome adaptation of the series. Alas, they failed todeliver over and over and over again. I watched though, week after weekof the entire first season. Tuning in hoping, waiting maybe thisepisode will be better, maybe it eventually will begin to follow thewonderful storyline and artwork of the comic. After hearing of thechanges made to the shows infrastructure following season one, I hopedyet again that the show would deliver on some of the page-turningaction of the comic. I can understand that you want to make the showless PREDICTABLE, seeing as a lot of people have read the sourcematerial already, but don't go as far to make it UNRECOGNIZABLE.Outside of a disappointing storyline my other main complaint with thisshow is that there is not nearly enough zombie killing action. I justdon't understand going entire episodes without zombies getting killed. For a show about the walking dead there is not nearly enoughinvolvement of the actual walking dead.Through all this though I will continue to watch, hoping maybe oneepisode will live up expectations the comic book laid down. Thatperhaps they can deliver the gut-wrenching feeling the comic bookevokes. This most likely will not happen though, not until a certaincharacter gets what is coming to him, and that episode can not happensoon enough!

Best Zombie Title Yet

I was a little sceptical at first, because most zombie movies are aboutrunning and killing and surviving. This Series has that but it doesn'tfocus on it. It focuses on the survivors, and the drama that ensues. Ithink this is one of the first series that both me and my girlfriendcould watch together without one of us getting bored.I would HIGHLY recommend anyone that hasn't watched this DOES. Ibelieve that it is THE BEST series of the last 3 years but I think thatit is more likely the best of the last 10.The producers have put a lot of thought into this show. The zombies arebelievable, and so are the characters. Congrats to the cast and crew, and PLEASE keep up the good work. One more thing, please don't kill off Glen(the Korean), he adds comicrelief to keep the audience from getting to drawn into the negativeemotions.

Crashed after Start

First off let me say that I am a big fan of the comic books, and stillkeep up with them today. When I heard this show was being made I wasmore than excited and couldn't wait for the first episode to air. WithFrank Darabont who did the green mile and many other great filmsdirecting the season premier it was sure to be a big hit. Unfortunatelyit was just a a great episode to get you hooked to watch all the othercrappy episodes that followed. The acting along with the way all theother episodes to date were shot is no way near the first episode. Notsure how someone could screw up a perfectly laid out series this bad,but clearly AMC found a way to do it. The comic books alone are seasonsworth of shooting, not to mention the story boards are right there. Butthat wasn't good enough, they had to add all this other trash and bringit down to todays sub-par programing standards. If I was the creatorRobert Kirkman I'd be ashamed of myself for selling out and allowingAMC to kill an amazing, well laid out zombie series.

The Walking Dead Season Two

Season one left me wondering about what it's going to happen in seasontwo, season one was really interesting because there were lots ofaction, and thriller moments, like when Rick walked in the city andthought it was empty but then loads of walkers came out of nowhere, andI thought it was interesting to see how people work together in orderto survive, here are some thoughts I have about few of the characters:Rick – the main character of the whole plot, he has good attitude, goodleadership, and know what he is doing. He always controls the situationto the best; he seems like a guy who would protect his people even ifit will cause his own life.Lori – In season one Shane and Lori got together, because Shane toldLori Rick was dead and was not going to come back, she felt lonelyinside and done something she will regret later in the story, I do notlike Lori's attitude, how she kept the secrets from Rick.Shane – I thought Shane would be a good guy in the beginning of seasonone, but by the end he started turning bad, and in one episode heturned his gun towards Rick's head, but Rick did not see it, at thestart of season two, I really felt the negativity in Shane, he shot theguy who helped him up and tries to carry him out of Walker attack inorder to escape faster. Shane is one of my least favorite characters inthis plot.Season Two was great but not as much as season one, I find it more asfamily issues rather than going out to the world and trying to fightand survive, but overall it was still a pretty good plot, the endingwas not all that unpredictable, I could tell it was going to end thatway from few episode back, they gave up lots of hints, but overall Iwould encourage people to watch it, it is a pretty good TV show.

Absolutely Perfection

I must admit i didn't believe in perfection until i previewed this TVseries.i never looked forward to Mondays (in Australia) because it was thestart of the working week but this series gets me looking forward toMondays! I haven't read the comics and have heard that it doesn't quite followthe comic but on saying that it this brings George a Romero's Zombiemovies to a b grade! All i can say is even if your not a zombie fan u will most likely fallin love with this series because it is well written, well directed andvery well acted and it scores a perfect 10 for me!
