An adorible and wholesome Movie
I am so happy that I took my daughters to see this movie. It was a twist on the normal "Princess kisses the Frog" story. My daughters left the theater wanting to see it again...and truth be told...So did I!!!

One of Disneys worst mistakes.
Disney needs to get a grip on the "darkness" they put into children's movies. Glad we rented before we poured any money into a DVD/BlueRay.Worst hour+ of our lives that we'll never get back. My youngest was crying and even my older youngin's left the room. Now I have to explain what voodoo is?No thanks!!!

Beautiful to look at
I love that Disney is getting back to the animated musical. This one is really just lovely to look at and listen to. I don't think it will rise above Little Mermaid but it is still really good and great for families. It has some stuff that is a but scary but so does Snow White. Just know your young kids threshold and nightmare level from creepy looking things :)Voice Lessons To Go v.1-4 The Complete Set

Thank You Disney for bringing back Hand drawn animation!
I am so happy that Disney brought back hand drawn animation with betterstorytelling. This is Disney's best 2d film since Lilo and Stitch andBrother Bear! The songs are quite catchy and the characters areamazing! The jokes are really likable in this film! I'm so astonishedby the animation in this film! We have a villain that is morecompelling and menacing! It's too bad it wasn't successful enough tobeat Pixar films because the boys thought this title is girly; but Idon't care how girly the title is. The title's is about right! If someof youy think the title's girly, just enjoy the movie because it has 2danimation, Dr facilier(because he's a great villain, and a love story. It is about time that we get to see the romantic story between Naveenand Tiana. This is why I love this animated film!

Princess and the frog
This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) Sweet fun movie for kids. It can have a few scary moments that are a little dark for young kids. it should be pg not g.

if you like to scare little kids
How in the world could this movie get a "G" rating? Never mind, pleasedon't answer that question. The way the subject matter ( magic , voodooetc) is presented definite pushes way into pg-13. It scared the hellout of my 4 year old and he ran out of the room, at least that's whatmy wife told me. I started watching it because my wife had rented itPPV and there was time left on the show. After about 10-15 minutes Iturned it off since I didn't see any redeeming value to it , it was tooccult oriented, boring, and creepy for me, the subject matter was waytoo mature for my 4 year old. Disney has always liked to push the darksubject matter in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed a lot ofDisney's shows, but to me this one is a bit too Dark for a G movie theway the subject matter is presented.

Disney has done it again!
This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) After many not-so-great movies, The Princess and The Frog brings us back the glorious Disney that we all love.Don't get me wrong. I love Disney, But there were some dissapointing flicks.Starting in 1989, The Little Mermaid started the Disney Renaissance. It included movies like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Tarzan, and others. The Disney Renaissance ended in 1999. I just hope that The Princess and The Frog starts another Renaissance. This would be awesome!

Disney is back
Well it is no mystery that Pixar has been beating Disney lately. Itsnot even a stretch to assume that Dreamworks has been beating Disney.Disney hasn't come out with anything to compare to Shrek or MonstersInc. The reason for this is that Disney has lost everything that madetheir movies good. That was charm, wittiness, and a plot. Disney hasjust become obsessed with making crappy sequels to Disney classics, hoping to make some more off the success of their older films. Well ThePrincess and the Frog is here, those times are over. Princess and theFrog blew me away. I liked it just as much as any other animated filmsI've ever seen. The music was the first thing that caught me. It wasvery jazzy, which was very good with the whole New Orleans feel. Onething that Disney has classically been good at is suiting the music tothe setting. The Italian music in the Lady and the Tramp, the Africanmusic of the Lion King, and now the New Orleans music in the Princessand the Frog are all good examples. The next aspect that lends itselfto this movie is the ending. In the end everything is tied together ina very happy, slightly cheesy way. The two main characters ended uptogether, the supporting characters achieved their goals, and the badguy found retribution. However, the one thing I love about this movie, that every good Disney movie has, is the feel it leaves you. I amslightly embarrassed to admit it, but I felt giddy after I watched thisfilm... all three times! In my mind that is how a Disney film issupposed to make you feel. At the risk of sounding cheesy, this moviemade me believe in magic and believe that anything could happen. Letshope that this is the start of a beautiful Disney Restoration (lets notforget that I was the first to coin that phrase).

Devoted to kid-friendly warmth, Frog recaptures some of the old Disney magic
In a decade where CGI has dominated all animated forms of entertainmentand a year where 3D has exploded into prime time, Walt Disney Studiossteps back, reaches into its old bag of tricks and pulls out its firsthand-drawn feature in five years. The decision might feel like a ployto boost Disney merchandising with a new princess, but Disney has madeplenty movies that achieve that end only they don't have half heart andsoul poured into them that "The Princess and the Frog" does. Dedicatedto moral-focused storytelling and creating lovable characters, Disneyhas rediscovered a touch of its former magic and delivered an age-appropriate children's film -- it's best effort of this kind since1998's "Mulan" and maybe even "The Lion King." Complete with musical numbers, this is Disney's old formula executed toa T. Princesses, wishing upon stars, a journey with new friends beingmade along the way, danger, transformation, talking animal sidekicks --there's no question Disney wanted desperately to recreate the feelingof its classics. Set in Jazz Age New Orleans, Tiana is a dedicatedyoung woman with a knack for cooking who aspires to open up her ownrestaurant one day and do the memory of her father proud. She knows allabout the value of hard work when it comes to achieving one's dreams.Already, here is Disney making it clear that it wants to teach childrena valuable lesson above all else. The sacrifice made for that is adult-level humor. Whereas Disney threwin numerous jokes back in mid-'90s that flew over kids' heads, there'smaybe only a handful of those chuckles in "Frog." Make no mistake, thisone is for kids. Disney nostalgists will enjoy it too -- but the focusis kids. Lots of run-of-the-mill physical humor and talking animalsacting silly: most of the time you'll laugh because it's cute andsweet. The plot is okay. The foreign Prince Naveen comes to New Orleans and hehas a run in with a hoodoo-voodoo witch doctor, the sinister Dr.Facilier (ala James Bond villain Baron Samedi in "Live and Let Die"),who in a spooky, smoky flash-bang big-band music number promises himwealth (princes can get cut off by their parents you know) and also hismutton-chopped assistant princely fame. Planning to use them as pawnsof his own devise, he turns Naveen into a frog and the assistant intoNaveen. The frog Naveen finds Tiana and promises that if she kisses him, he'llmake her restaurant dream come true. When she agrees, she ends up afrog too. Together, they journey through the Louisiana Bayou in hopesto find Mama Odie, who will have the power to turn them human again.Along the way they meet a cuddly trumpet-playing crocodile named Louis(after Mr. Armstrong, naturally) and a goofy Cajun firefly named Ray.Its when Louis and the frog Tiana and Naveen sing about what they'll dowhen they become human ("When We're Human") as they float down theriver that suddenly you feel that old fuzzy Disney musical feeling and"Princess and the Frog" becomes a success.Randy Newman's tunes are catchy and fun, representing a range ofSouthern music from jazz ("When We're Human) to banjo-plucking folk("Gonna Take You There") to the film's best song, Mama Odie'smoral-delivering number asking us all to "Dig A Little Deeper" in fullgospel fashion. The last one aside, they're not all that memorable, however, most likely because they never give in to full theatricality. There just feels like a little reservation in making "Frog" an all-outmusical jamboree on Newman's part as well as longtime Disney directorsRon Clements and John Musker. For many adult Disney-lovers, it might bethe difference between a "cute" and a "great" Disney film.Certainly, however, even if just in brief moments, Disney has tappedinto the magic of old with this heart-warming story preaching that ourpersonal dreams and desires don't mean nearly as much if they losesight of love and family. It even manages to be pleasantly lesspredictable than one would expect in the end and it also avoids somepast warranted Disney criticisms with regards to racism andstereotyping gender roles. Kids will love it (one girl in the theaterwas even dancing in the aisle ... out of plain sight of course) andparents will feel good about taking them to see it. A definite successfor Disney.~Steven CVisit my site at www.moviemusereviews.com

Too scary
If your child has nightmares or gets scared don't take them to see this movie. I had to cover my daughter's eyes often during the movie, there were some very scary images through out much of the movie. Had I know that the central plot of the story was about voodoo I would not have taken my daughter to see it. I don't know if I missed that in the previews or if they didn't include it because they knew some people wouldn't want to see it.

More frog, less princess
Disney finally decides to do a princess movie where the lead character is a black female, but they purposefully choose a story where the character spends as little time as possible being black on screen. I timed it. She spent about 20 minutes of the movie as a black girl and the rest of the time she was a green frog. Typical. I expected nothing less from Disney.

Disneys back...with an excellent film!
Disney's back...and I couldn't be happier to inform you of it! FromJohn Musker and Ron Clements, the directors behind "Beauty and theBeast", "The Lion King" and "Hercules" comes the first 2D animatedDisney film in five years, "The Princess and the Frog", a landmark thatsignals the rebirth of hand-drawn animation and an involving storyline, which is something that recent Disney films have been missing. Afterthe closure of the hand-drawn animation branch of the Disney studios in2005 (due to the commercial and critical flop "Home on the Range"),we've seen a slew of silly and useless Disney films that ascertainedthe fact that Disney was steadily losing its reputation as the king ofanimated films. Not only are they poorly animated (in comparison to,say, Pixar films) but they also lack a story and interesting charactersboth children and adults can identify with. Now "The Princess and theFrog" comes to redeem Disney with fabulous old-school animation, perfect music and a nice story we can all sit back and enjoy. The film follows Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose), an African-Americangirl who lives with her mother and father in pre-war New Orleans, whenjazz was only being born. Her parents struggle for money and her fatherdreams with opening a restaurant where they can sell their tasty food, including Tiana's amazing gumbo. But the years pass, her father dies, and Tiana- now a grown woman handling two jobs- fends for herself andtries very hard to earn enough money to fulfill her father's needs. While this happens, Prince Naveen from Maldonia (Bruno Campos) visitsNew Orleans; he's a fun-loving, music-playing playboy who's been cutoff from his family's money and has come to America to seek out a richprospect to marry. Deceived by an evil voodoo man, Dr. Facilier (KeithDavid), he's transformed into a frog to keep him from meeting a wealthysocialite who's throwing him a party one night.Tiana's at that party, serving some of her famous pastries, and thefrog prince mistakes her for a true princess because of the dress she'swearing. He convinces her that he'll turn back into a human if shekisses him, and in exchange he'll pay for the restaurant she so dearlywishes for. But when they kiss, Tiana turns into a frog and now theymust seek out a good-hearted voodoo witch who lives in a bayou tochange them back to their human forms. Along the way, they meet ahilarious cast of animal characters and learn important life lessons, among them how money isn't what matters most in life, how dreams cometrue, how love can sustain you and how you must work hard and beyourself to triumph in this world. This is a wonderful story, indeed, featuring a lovely twist on theoriginal fairytale. It is also culturally accurate in every sense ofthe word; the setting of New Orleans during the birth of the jazz age,the design of the houses and the costumes people wear, the lovely bayouof the West, the dialogue and accents of the characters...everythingdown to the jazzy score and triumphant songs make this an important andthoroughly enjoyable movie experience. The film began and I just stared in awe during the first few minutes, unable to believe how Disney could have come back to us with such apowerful movie. My sister was laughing whole-heartedly enjoying it, andI laughed along with her at the innocent fun and slapstick, at theintelligent story, and I marveled at the flawless and beautifulanimation. I had seriously lost my hopes at being entertained so muchby Disney ever again, but this film lifted my hopes and made me believeonce more in true love and happily ever after.I mean, it's NOT "Beauty and the Beast" per se, but it's a great movie. The music is perfect, even if it's not as awesome or as mind-blowing asAlan Menken's previous work, but Randy Newman took the material he wasgiven and made wonders with it. His score seems shy and unimpressivebut his songs are pitch-perfect and you'll feel like dancing along withthem. And there's a wide array of characters which you'll fall in lovewith, and various truly hilarious scenes you'll cherish and findyourself smiling at long after the film's ended.I'm glad Disney's returning, and I can't wait to see what they come upwith next. This may not be the BEST animated film of the year, but itmight just be one of the most enjoyable and charming movie experiencesyou'll have any time soon. I highly recommend it! Rating: 3 stars and ahalf out of 4!

a wonderful new Disney film!
This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This movie was a lot of fun! i loved the setting in New Orleans, and i loved the characters. How fun to have something take place in the states for a change. I had to laugh at a lot of the negative reviews...did any of them watch the film? If you dont care for Jazz, then of course you wont be a big fan of the music...but it works wonderfully with the setting, the time period and the movie. Why does all the music have to sound the same from film to film anyways...I thought the songs were fun. Anika Noni Rose has a beautiful voice! I love the hard working Tiana and i was pleased with the friendship between her and the rich girl, Charlotte. I loved that there was no jealousy or bitterness, which seems to be the norm in most films. A warm and wonderful film! Thanks for keeping with the 2D animation...and thanks for another winner Disney!

Beautiful but not epic.
This story certainly had some poetry in it. It was beautifully drawnwith a touch of passion and soul. This movie was definitely worthwhilebut not as epic than the lion king. The fact that its the first blackmain character is fine but.... why are most characters black or with anafro-American accent? I think we still have to wait for a movie withdifferent coloured character (latino, Asians, blacks, white, red(hehe)) living together (in harmony). Thats how north America was madeafter all. the only down side was that the're was way too many songs, giving lesstime for showing the character's souls.

The Vidiot Reviews...
The Princess and the FrogThe age-old hook-up between princesses and frogs is a likelyexplanation as to why most members of the royal family are born withtails. Oops. Apparently the growth of a wagging appendage is not theresult of intermingling between species, but between family members. With aspirations of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans, Tiana(Anika Noni Rose) must put those fantasies on-hold when she and aspoiled prince (Bruno Campos) are transformed into amphibians at thehand of a Voodoo practitioner. Now the pair must find a real princessfor the prince to kiss before both are confined to their cold-bloodedforms forever.Overflowing with zany anthropomorphic characters and lively song anddance numbers, The Princess and the Frog is a return to classic Disney2-D animation. As for dating a frog prince: if he ever dumps you, dissect him in biology and get herself an A+. (Green Light)

Having lived in New Orleans and traveled Louisiana adds to my delight
About thirty years ago , i lived in greater New Orleans (Kenner , near Jefferson Downs horse race track) and delivered food products all over the state . Simply put , i love everything about Louisiana and it's people , food , music , history , culture , cities , towns , traditions and so on . I really like films set in and around the state as well . This film is not exempt . I think time will be very kind to this wonderful film and all its various facets and participants . A beautiful picture for young and old . Not even the melting pot that is New york could be as diverse and interesting as "The Planet Of New Orleans" as Mark Knopfler might suggest in said tune .

Great for All!
This is the first movie we took our daughter to see at the "big theatre." I couldn't believe she sat all the way through it and talked about it all the way home! The music is fantastic, even my husband likes this movie! Of course, we had to buy it just as soon as it came out on DVD!!!
