A tale about Tinny and his dog act

This is a stop motion animated film done by the same people who didWallace and Gromit, which is the Aardman Company. It's directed and written by Nick Park's friend, Steve Box.The story focuses on a short man name Tinny who's talent is doing a DogAct with his fellow Dogs. The trouble is people didn't want to see DogTricks, they want movies.Tinny grew guilt and same that they don't like his act. His girlfriendtries to cheer him up, only she has other things in mind, such asbecoming a successful actress. She loves Tinny, it's just she wants todo her career in show business. She stars with Hugh a rude and revolting movie actor. He hates Tinnyand demands that he quits his dog act.The plot to this animated short is a little dry in a way. The dialog isa bit flawed with slightly bad English accents in which it's slightlyhard to understand sometimes. It's still a nice short to watch. Just not as worthy as Wallace andGromit or Creature Comforts. There's nothing too inappropriate in this short, just know that if akid's watching this he or she wouldn't understand the story too well, due the the dialog. My rate: 7/10

Excellent

In a way, I feel bad about this film because the staff at AardmanProductions really tried hard but it's natural for there to becomparisons to Aardman's biggest stars, Wallace & Gromit. However,Steve Box, who directed this short, is the same person who has alsopaired up with Nick Park for some of Aardman's best works--includingCHICKEN RUN and several of the Wallace & Gromit films. So, suchcomparisons really aren't fair at all and not every Aardman film can beWallace & Gromit. However, if you were to think that perhaps the quality of STAGE FRIGHTis a bit below that of the Wallace & Gromit films, then this would becorrect--it is very good, just not quite as good. Nor does it lookquite as good as the Shaun the Sheep films, though these are newer andrepresent the studio at its best--having learned and perfected theircraft with many films--including STAGE FRIGHT.The film is about a man and woman who have a trained dog act. Tinyjuggles his chihuahuas and has them do lovely tricks, but the audienceis bored, as movies are now the rage. So, his lady friend, who lovesTiny, agrees to do some films with a boorish jerk who hates the dogsbut knows he can make money by using them in his films. Eventually, though, his abusiveness and thoughtfulness is too much--leading to arather grim and gruesome ending. This is a lovely stop-motion animated film and I can see why it won theBAFTA--even if it isn't the best thing that ever came from Aardman.Heck, that's because EVERYTHING that comes from Aardman is fantastic!

An Outstanding Piece Of Art!

When I first saw the movie, Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of TheWere-Rabbit, I happened to stumble upon this on the special features. And considering the fact that I really love the stop-motion animationprojects from Aardman Animation Studios, I decided to watch this. In myhonest to goodness point of view, Stage Fright is an outstanding pieceof art, it is another masterpiece brought to us from Aardman AnimationStudios! I love this, I believe that it was a masterpiece, and Ibelieve that this is one of the best animated short films that I haveever seen. While this is not as good as the Wallce And Gromit short films, I stillfind this to be a fabulous an unforgettable animated short. It is nosurprise that this short won a BAFTA film award for Best Animated Shortfilm, because it certainly deserved it. I remember that when I watchedthis short after seeing The Wallace And Gromit Movie, my family wasright there with me watching this and having a good time as well. Wellbravo to Aardman for once again managing to thrill me with a terrificstop-motion animated short film!So in short, Stage Fright is an enchanting animated short film that istotally and completely terrific! If you love some of the other worksthat Aardman has put out, then watch this, because you will love it! Iam so thankful that I was first introduced to the works of AardmanAnimation Studios in the first place, because they certainly have hadan impact on my life! When you watch this, I hope that you enjoy it,because it certainly is something incredible to see! My applaudsAardman, I await more masterpieces in the future.10/10

A charming little stop-motion short-darkly comic with a bit of a bite.

This is a short produced by Aardman Animations, with a bit more pathosthan the other shorts the studio is known for, though there is a darkhumor interspersed throughout the short, particularly one bit towardsthe end, one that will induce a chuckle that's more like a gasp with asmall bubble of blood at the end.The short has the feel of the old melodramas to it, which isunderstandable, given that the setting is a theater and the plotrevolves around an old-time vaudeville act, a dog juggling act whichhas seen better days (an aside-in vaudeville, the "dog act" wastypically placed at the end of the show, in order to clear out theaudience in preparation for the next performance). What follows nextmay be a mild spoiler: There's a charm to this short that I can'treally explain. It's an old story-the shy, timid fellow, his girl andthe bully who wants the girl and hates the timid fellow. But it alsoshows that you never know what you're capable of until your back is upagainst the wall and even the most beaten-down of us has some spark ifpushed far enough, as happens here. This short is included on the recent DVD release of Wallace and Gromit:The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, as a DVD extra and is well worthwatching. Recommended.

Stage Fright

I think this movie stands out from the rest of the Nick Park stablebecause it is basically not funny and not meant to be - it is slightlydisturbing and thought-provoking, whereas we are used to funny littleGromit and bumbling wallace chasing cheese. It shows an excellentcommand of historical context - the transition from vaudeville / musichall to movies. But man, is it strange. don't show it your littlenephews unless you really want them up all night! Incidentally I thinkthe little chap is called 'Tiny', not Tinny as in earlier review. Themovie puts me in mind of that one about the murderous ventriloquistdummy, the title of which completely evades me.
