Awesome series!
I'm going to begin by saying that I absolutely love Smallville; butthere are some things that make my rating go down to 9 instead of 10.For one, I think they have inserted some things that weren't really atall necessary to the storyline... like the whole deal with Lana'sancestor (I can't even remember her name now) in season 4... Or some ofthe scenes that show the characters nearly naked, Think of me as aweirdo, but I don't like that type of dirty scenes...I love the casting of this show... for the most part anyway... I'm nota very big fan of Erica Durance, especially cus not only as a characterin Smallville, but as an actress doesn't seem to have a lot of moral orethics... I honestly lose all appreciation of an actor/actress afterthey do a nude scene, and she doesn't here, but I'm pretty sure she didin "The Butterfly Effect 2". Also, I don't find chemistry between TomWelling and Erica Durance, and consequently between Clark and Lois...She seems to fit much better with Ollie. On the other hand, thechemistry between Tom Welling and Kirsten Kreuk is amazing... I've beena pro Clar and Lana from the very beginning, and I suppose that littlepart inside of me still hopes that the makers of this series willchange their mind and make Clark and out with Lana in the end...They've changed so much in the storyline already, why not that? heheI used to follow the series on the WB here in Mexico... but they hadway to many commercials and it was a really big torture to only be ableto watch this once a week... not to mention we were a couple of monthsbehind the US anyway... and to top it all off, when they originallyaired the 5th season they omitted the first episode >.> ...I have noidea why... So, ever since the 5th season we've been renting thisseries and finish a year's worth in about a week... And that's honestlyan awesome way to watch this series... heheAnyway, overall I think this series is awesome... every episode hooksyou up from the very beginning, I love the music on the show(especially the use of songs such as "Everything" by Lifehouse or "IDare You to Move" by Switchfoot), the actors really know what they'redoing, and overall the storyline is also very cool... So, 9 out of 10for this awesome Superman Series!~AngeDor

lets face it... its the WB
Everyone is a possibility for who is going to die. It's the WB. Ihonestly hope they don't kill Jonathan Kent yet. But he's right at thetop of the possibilities list. The Lana thing is a big swerve. Iwatched Superman II last night and I got an idea. What if Lana dies andClark begs Jor-El to bring her back? That would make sense because itsthe WB and young love rules over all on that network. In Superman IIwhen Superman chooses to be with Lois, he has to give up his powers...what if it came down to that and in essence "kills" Kal-el? We get Lanaback and we also lose Kal-el for the time being. That would be the twodeaths and it's pretty feasible. We'd get the rest of the seasonwatching Clark struggle with not having powers, relying on others, andfacing dangers alone without Jor-El. Eventually he'll need to get hispowers back and get them back for the end of the season. Your thoughts?

Slowville the never ending quest of getting some of Lana...
The truth about "Smallville" is that it's this generation's "Hercules"and/or "Xena", but with the backstage intrigues of "Game of Thrones".The show follows the life of Clark Kent, better know, to at least halfof this planet, as "Superman", and everyone around him.The first season is filled to the brim with cliché adventures thatClark and 'those meddling kids'(Cloe - the high school journalist andPete - Clark's best friend) find a way to fix, each one of these being,of course, tied closely to the meteor shower. Kripton, Clark Kent'splace of birth exploded years ago and his parents placed him in a shipand send him all the way to Earth, along with his ship however, therewere pieces of the planet(meteors), that made it through the atmosphereand are now scattered around the town. The show swirls around this keyfactor for at least the first two seasons, the meteors and they'reeffects on people keep Clark and the gang busy for the most part, LanaLang(love interest) making up for the rest. It's played poorly and the term cliff hanger doesn't even begin tocover it, but over all it's probably a fun show for teenagers. Yes, itcould use better writing and a faster pace, it could use a lot ofthings including a change of tone(because for the most part the showgives one the impression that it's talking down to you), however ifyou've got time to kill and above all you're in your early teens, giveit a go, especially if you're a comic book fan or a fan of Superman.

A show that makes you want to know more about Clarks earlier life.
I haven't been that much of a Superman fan before Smallville came. I haveall the Superman movies, but just seeing Superman fly is not enough for me.I want to know more about Clark's earlier life, even before he was ateenager. When I first saw this show in October 2001, just after the terrorattacks, I thought, "Now this is a show that may bring hope". It has broughthope in my life. Something to believe in. Clark's life I also could relateto. I wasn't popular in school and like Clark, I was weird. I like all thecharacters in the show, and the guest stars that appear in the show. I liketo see the newest episodes and whenever I can, and I glue myself to thetelevision to watch the show. To see what Lex Luthor is going to do, and tosee how Lana Lang's life is going to turn out, makes me excited. And to knowthat there's a brand new Superman movie comming out in 2004 makes me want tosee it already! So watch out! The Superman craze has begun!

This show is VASTLY better on DVD
Part of the fun of the 'Smallville' in the early going was the factthat most viewers knew where the story was heading. Clark Kent wasgoing to become the most powerful man in the world, Superman. Also, theClark-Lex relationship would take a horrible turn that lead them tospend the rest of their lives as mortal enemies. It lends the show anundercurrent of sadness that prevents it from becoming "Krypton Creek".This extends to the Clark-Lana relationship as well. Whatever happensbetween these two will lead Clark to go to even greater lengths to hidehis secret and live in a place called "The Fortress of Solitude". Thestory may have a happy ending for Clark, but it is Lois Lane who shareshis life finally. In the comics, Clark does ultimately reveal hissecret to Lana and it almost ruins her life. You wonder if the'Smallville' writers will go down the same path. However, the nature of these stories is that have to be 'two stepsforward, one step back'. The big turns of Lex into a villain, Clarkinto Superman and true intimacy between Lana and Clark would change theshow into something totally different. Therefore, the show puts most ofthat stuff in 'B stories' that move very slowly. The main story mostepisodes is the "Freak of the Week". That makes weekly viewing of theshow a bit repetitive with one of the principles in peril and Clarkcoming to their rescue in a way that prevents them from seeing him usehis powers. On DVD, you can watch 2-3 episodes at once and feel the B stories buildon each other. The "Freak of the Week" stuff is wildly uneven, but thecharacters are great. Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are so good asClark and Lex that is going to be extremely hard for the actors in"Superman Returns" to compare. John Schnieder and Annette O'Toole madethree dimensional characters from Johnathan and Martha Kent, which doesnot sound like much until you consider that it has taken almost 60years to accomplish. John Glover is a lot of fun as Lionel Luthor, butnot exactly well motivated. Kristin Kreuk makes a sometimes tooone-note Lana Lang sympathetic. Allison Mack is almost too good asChloe Sullivan, since her part is a lot richer than Lana when Clark isoff-stage. Sam Jones III is good as Pete Ross, but is given too littleto do after the early part of Season 2. You can see why he chose tomove on at the mid-point of Season 3.My big complaint is the arrival of Lois Lane is Season 4. TheSuperman-Lois-Clark love triangle is pretty central to the Supermanstory. It makes no sense if Lois knows the real person who ispretending to be both Superman and "mild-mannered reporter, ClarkKent". The whole point is that she cannot see what is right in front ofher eyes and needs to discover the real person to find happiness. Ifshe has already met the real Clark as a teenager, then she has nostory. I know that is not a problem for the 'Smallville' producers, butit is a shame.

The pilot, hot head, and hour glass were great episodes, but that is about it for this show.
The show is getting old, and it is just in its second season. Thefirst season got tiresome really quick because they dragged the villain ofthe week business to near-death. I understand that the creators have to makeit interesting, but it was so cartoony. Now, in the second season, they arerepeating their actions again. Another thing is that I have seen it all before, from a little showentitled, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Some of the villains are pure copiesfrom Buffy. For example: The episode entitled Heat had an evil sub usingpheromones to attract men. In the BTVS episode Teacher's Pet, an evil subuses pheromones to attract men, but the episodes' outcomes differs at theclimax. Also the characters are all ripoffs of Buffy, but mostlyChloe/Willow and Pete/Xander. The show has a lot of potential, but it must stop repeating itself, orit will cancel. If the screen writers believe that it's so dire for them toborrow elements from Buffy to make the show successful, why not give Clarkone major obstacle(and face it, everything is a rip off of something. Forexample: Psycho leads to Halloween, leads to Terminator, leads to Matrix, leads to every kung-fu/action movie that has been invented for themillennium.) Either have Big Bads that Clark has to defeat at the end ofeach season, have one major big bad throughout the whole series (ala Aliaswith SD-6. Lex doesn't count because he isn't bad, and the father doesn'tcount because the audience doesn't know what devious plan the father isabout to, or ever commit), or take some tips from the Steven Spielbergminiseries "Taken". Like have the military trying to take Clark away and usehim as a government weapon, giving Clark even more reason to conceal hispowers. The teen audience might just catch on that the show has the same outcome of events within each season, such as the drab, and oh-so-tiringvillain-of-the-week; therefore, the show won't see a 4th season. RememberDark Angel, which fell into that hum-drum realm within its second season, and it never saw a 3rd.

Smallville is nice ... but just a few pointsfacts?
After watching the first few seasons of Smallville I thought this isreally great, good acting, lot of action, drama, fun etc. But know thelast season (5) and the beginning of 6 actually disappoints me. Thestoryline is not really perfect and all is becoming too obvious, itseems that the characters are becoming blind (mainly Clark Kent, CloeSullivan and Lois Lane) even though Clark Kent can see trough wall andstuff it does not help him much seeing obvious. An example for the notperfect story line is the first episode of season six. Normally serieshave a last sick making episode to be assured that viewers willcontinue watching the next season and the first episode of the newseason is normally incredible.... but unfortunately with Smallville(season 6) Clark Kent cleared all the mess way to easy (in one lameepisode).Although the last episodes where kind of numb I really can say it isworth watching. I am sure Smallville will get back to the point it usedto be and till then I'll be watching will a little annoyance toSmallville

surprisingly GREAT!
I am not ashamed to say that I was no Superman fan before Smallville. Iwas,in fact, totally against seeing it, having become relatively familiar withthe previews from watching shows such as 7th Heaven and Gilmore Girls ontheWB. And when a close friend of mine who was living with me insisted uponwatching it, I complained openly, especially considering there was aplay-off baseball game the same night. But since she was totally addictedtoit, I watched it with her to be nice. Before it was over, however, I toowasaddicted. Smallville, for me, grows more intriguing with every episode. Ilove Clark Kent, and not just because Tom Welling is so attractive. I alsolove the happenings in the relationship between Clark and Lex. Andalthoughthe whole Clark-loves-Lana-but-doesn't-want-to-put-her-in-danger gets old,Isuppose it helps to enrich the show. I think anyone who starts watchingthisshow will truly enjoy it. The acting is superb, and the plots arebrilliantly conceived and appealing to many people.

Behind the Mask of Superman
WHo doesn't like a story of superman? To be more descriptive, whodoesn't enjoy a TV show that displays teen angst and the story behindhow heroes become great. Hence, the question as to the origins of wheresuperman really came from. From the critically acclaimed story ofsuperman, comes a TV series that speaks about the story of superman, before he became infamous and as a young teenage boy. Smallvillefollows the life of Clark Kent and as he grows up, his powers developand he is forced to hide his powers, protected the people, all whilebeing a normal teenage who is still required to go to school.Smallville works as a fantasy series, because it adds historicalcontext to the actual history of superman, but also providing insighton the characters and how it affects them. If your a fan of visual andspecial effects, this is the way to go, because every episode i packedwith super strength, x ray vision heat vision, and almost any superheroyou could name. However, gearing up for their eight season, smallville,is become very dramatic with their character and plot. The episodes donot really seem to connect and some episodes would make you question ifthey should even be there. However, I have no doubts that they wouldcontinue with the story of superman theme, so it should be headingtowards more of the epic plot as he grows closer to his destiny. I saythis would be enjoyable for fantasy and even comic book fans, but forpeople who want superman accuracy, this series may often have youscratching your heads.

the World of... Saga Continues
This is a great series! Having been adapted from the second ofthreeinterlocking 4~issue mini~series published by DC Comics {1987} which threwouteverything that came before, and completely recreated the Superman mythos.Thosethree titles being "World of Krypton," "World of Smallville," and "WorldofMetropolis" (the basis for Lois & Clark). The only thing "new" I've seen different from the comics is thatGreenKryptonite mutates ordinary people if taken internally. As I see it, Lanahasn'tbeen mutated by her Kryptonite necklace because it's outside of herbody...whereas everyone else has ingested the Kryponite or otherwise absorbedtheKryponite into themselves through some sort of invasive procedure, thereforemutating.

This show deserves better review
For some reason Emmy board isn't interested in CW shows. Buffy theVampire Slayer might be the last one which even got a nomination. Notmentioning Rosewell, the young aliens living in the high school. WhenSmallville came out, the first thing I noticed was how pretty Lana isand how cool Lex is. As the story went, I fell in love with Chloe. Isure hoped she and Greenarrow would hook up, instead of arrogant Lois. Not many people around me watch this show anyway. I think Smallvilledefinitely deserves better reviews and recognition. And I'm surprisedthat Tom Wellings wasn't cast for Superman Returns. He would be abetter fit than Brandon.

Interesting look at Supermans early years
While I don't like this show as much as I did Birds of Prey (rest in piece, you will be avenged) I find it very good. In the old DC comics cartoons fromthe 70's they ocassionally showed a glimpse into the past but this show goesto a new level. Like Birds of Prey, this goes for a lesser known hero era. It's a real shame that Birds of Prey was doing so well but got cancealed inits prime. Both Smallville and Birds of Prey rank as two of DC's best shows(right up there with Justice League, Batman the Animated Series and the restof Bruce Timm's DC cartoons, Adam West's Batman and Lois and Clark the NewAdventures of Superman. I do hope they make another show for DC. I would notmind seeing these two shows linked together.

Great TV Show
SPOILER ALERT"Smallville" has given fresh air to the television. It presents theclassicstory of the Superman's Origin including some new elements like thekryptonite meteors, the Lex Luthor presence and the appearing of specialguest stars of the Superman universe that include Perry White (MichaelMcKean) and Morgan Edge (Rutger Hauer / Patrick Bergin). And Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) presence is the most interesting ofall.Luthor is an amazing character that combines good values with a persistenttendency for a "dark side". I think that "Smallville" is a great tv-showandit deserves a long future.

People Are Too Negative
I have read alot of the comments on smallville, and I wonder why somepeoplecontinue to watch it? Because they like it, these people know stuff fromalmost every show, and that is in their message. Why do they keep watchingit? Because it's an Excellent new show. The story of Superman is about 50 years old, although I have never read thecomics, I have watched the movies, and some of the cartoon. Superman wasgenerated for a completely different generation, and I am happy to see anew-spin put on the show.--- Possible spoiler ---The friendship between Clark and Lex, hasn't been the main focus about thechange in the show, but I would like to comment on it. I think that bymaking Clark and Lex young-friends will only make their falling-out moreinteresting, and make the fact that Clark's Arc-enemy more than the usuallenemies we see in the weekly show, or even in the movies. As I've said I never read the Comics, so I don't get the discussion aboutLana, and Pete. I think that the story is great so far withthem.I would like to discuss more in the forums, but no one seems to go thereandleave messages, so I invite anyone wishing to educate me on the comics, andoriginal story, and to discuss the plot to go to the messageboards.I would also like to know if anyone thinks that the Actor's in 'Smallville'would make an excellent resurrection of the movie(s). As far as movies go Icould see using smallville as a the template for a movie an excellent Idea, especially with the advances in special effects, when the series is donethespecial effects will be great, but the original superman movies just don'tlook real.To anyone who is considering watching the series; Try it, I don't find avery strong resemblance between 'Smallville' and 'Dawson'sCreek'.Thanks,Rob

Clark Kent has come to us...
I was able to watch the premiere of Smallville, the story of Clark Kent asateenager. It was Great! I remember the first Superman Movie (ChristopherReeve) where I got to see a little bit of the teenage years but never wasdeveloped fully. Now it is your opportunity to enjoy the other side ofClarkas he struggles with all these powers and meeting some of the people I knewfrom the comics and the movies. This series could be a hit in Latin America.I just hope it does not get soap-opera(ish) later in the season. I reallyenjoyed this first episode. Bring it on Clark. Shows us your powers andgreat entertainment. By the way, Annette O'Toole played Lana Lang insuperman III. Enjoy the show...

Highly addictive, I urge you to watch!
Being a big fan of similar programmes such as Buffy, Dark Angel,Charmed etc I was expecting great things from Smallville and itdelivered! Great plots which get darker as the seasons go on. I reallyhope there are a few more seasons as it definitely has the story linesto continue. Tom Welling does a Stella job as Clarke Kent, strugglingto fit in, deal with his abilities as well as figure out his destiny.I own both seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and I haven't been able to stopwatching them. It will definitely have you hooked by the secondepisode! Overall it is really well cast and acted, and is reallyinteresting to see the journey the characters take before they end upwhere we know they are going to be. Add in teenage angst, romance andsome great one-liners you have the recipe for a fantastic show.

NOT BAD!
I wasn't sure about Smallville at first, but it grows on you. Sure, it'snot exactly Emmy award winning stuff, but I could think of worse things todo for an hour than watch the show. The acting is okay, the storylines aresometimes a bit average, but overall, it's an easy show to watch. Personally, I'm waiting to find out why/how Lex Luthor turns into abaddie!

about Smallville
i feel Smallville is the best ever it so creative who would have aboutmaking a show about how superman grew up his problem both romanticallyand from friends and family.plus the casting is perfect.i also admirethe way they made Clarke Kent and Lex Luther two best friends who grewapart.i only wish that Lana and Clarke could date for one full with noproblems what so ever with Lana knowing Clarke's secret. even though itis a well known factor that clarke destined to be with Lois.Tom Wellingwas a wise choice for clarke kent he looks just like the old supermanand he is a good actor and i believe Smallville deserves morecredebility than it gets.also the castig for Lana Lang she has a uniquebeauty that just stuns everyone and she can act because in Smallvilleshe is innocent and she looks so innocent you would think she isincapable of lying.

All In All A Great Show
The show starts off the same way every other show of this genre starts. The show is a little weak with its first season but gains momentum asit goes. Experience seems to help and the acting definitely getsbetter. Along with the acting, the story lines become more complex yetbelievable. As a Superman fan, I was immensely excited to watch this show andenjoyed it very much the more I watched it. I was eager to watch youngClark Kent become the Superman we all came to love. It's fun watchinghim discover himself and his roots.Tom Welling was a perfect fit. As was Michael Rosenbaum to play thesoon- to-be infamous Lex Luthor. All in all, a great show that many can enjoy.

Fantastic Show-Keep It On
"Smallville" was an absolutely stunning television series for the firstthree seasons. Tom Welling is the perfect hero, and Michael Rosenbaumgives Lex Luthor great depth and a lot of cool. However, the show wasalmost ruined this season (season four) by the totally obnoxious LoisLane character. As portrayed on this series, Lane is so offensive and unlikeable thatno self-respecting hero would be able to tolerate her, let alone careenough about her to rescue her. When are Hollywood scriptwriters goingto stop the nonsense about 100 lb. female supermodels being the bestfighters on the planet? What sense does that make? Lois spent the firstfew episodes kicking every butt she could, most of them much largermales, and seems to be looking for a fight all the time. What woman (orrespectable man) acts like that? Wouldn't they be counseled by someone,if they were ready to punch and kick people at the slightestprovocation? They even had Lois easily beat up a fully armed militarySWAT team member. This supposed 19 or 20 year old young girl wasunarmed, and outweighed by probably at least 100 lbs., yet she managedto physically pummel a trained professional fighter. Why do we accept this kind of p.c. propaganda, which is injected intovirtually every movie Hollywood produces now? Anyhow, luckily Lois hadher role diminished during the last half dozen or so episodes thisseason, and the show bounced back in a very strong way. If they canjust keep her character off the show, then "Smallville" will only keepgetting better.
