Scooby-Doo Shark Night in 3D

A weekend at a lake house turns into a nightmare for seven stereotypeyoung vacationers as they are subjected to shark attacks, but its notonly the sharks they need to worry about. There's some good effects and action set ups but Shark Night is poorlyscripted, with an equally poor storyline that compared to Scooby-Doomakes it look like The Usual Suspects. It is certainly is a no brainerbut if you want to see girls in bikini's there's more suitable placesto get your fix or if you must even watch Piranha (2010). There'sreally not much more to say about this clunker. While slightly better in the production department compared to DTVfilms the whole film sinks of yesterdays fish which is odd consideringits is the same director of entertaining The Final Destination (2009)and Cellular (2004) to name a few. It's a shame as everyone loves agood shark film but this just isn't one.

Overall an OK movie

An OK movie if you're not into really gory movies but still like to bescared because the killing scenes are just blood in water. So if youlike gory movies then I don't recommend it. The 3D is good. Much betterthen Saw 3D and other 3D movies which were disappointing. In SharkNight 3D a lot of things come flying out at you and there not justsharks. So if you choose to watch this watch it in 3D. In general itsan good movie and everyone is saying its awful and I have to admit theplot was kind of lazy and boring but its not as bad as everyone issaying. I walked into the theater with no hope but I left the theaterhappier the when I came in. I RECOMMEND IT.

Dont go in EXPECTING.

We all know the saying, expectations only lead to disappointment. Thisis one of those movies. The acting is dry. Dry as my knees, for example. And I didn't put nolotion on today. It had no story to it. There was no climax, it wasjust people dying. Which, I could have watched that on HBO. Don't wasteyour money. The good thing is, the 3-D is amazing. I loved the 3-D. But I was readyto leave the horribleness from the start of the movie. In conclusion, if you want to see great 3-D, and a sexy cast, watchthis movie. If not, don't watch it. OR wait for it to come on HBO. It'sthat sad.

It would have been good for an original Sci-Fi channel film...

I saw this one at the drive-in, but thankfully it was backed up by"Fright Night".The premise is very simple: Sharks in a lake start eating the collegekids who go into the lake. There is somewhat of back-story involving the hillbillies that put thesharks in the lake and attached cameras to them to record the sharkseating people, which then they would sell to get money. Lots of money. It takes itself WAY too seriously. The villainous hicks in the film are relatively more scary than theactual sharks in the film.I completely lost interest in the film when they killed off the mostinteresting character (Joel David Moore; of "Avatar", "Hatchet", and"Grandma's Boy" fame.)I can't say much about this one. If you want to watch something of thisquality, watch the Sci-Fi channel on a Saturday night. This DID NOTneed to make it to the big screen.2/5

Mindnumbingly bad

Its a format which has been done to death. This particular film starts off bad and gets no better. You may well enjoy this film if you have had a lobotomy at some point. If there is a tragedy in this film, it may well be the destruction of aspeedboat,Think Piranha, which was only held up by good acting and a good budget, and the few college kids off for a weekend at a lake, then throw intothe mix, bad acting, a very weak plot, a storyline which desperatelytried to find something more than a shark attack to make it evenslightly entertaining, and you have shark night, possibly the biggestturd to have been excreted by Hollywood in recent years. It is quite literally a couple of hours of your life you will never getback and will regret wasting.

This movie was a disappointment i was expecting a lot more from David REllis! Once i heard of the movie coming out i was thinking it would beable of fun just to watch it. It was made to see somesharks eat and tare apart college kids.*SPOILER* And come on The partyseen if thats what you call it. Wheres the alcohol!? There was one seenof beer pong and only the weird nerd robot guy from grandmas boy took adrink! These are college kids. I know how to have a better time bymyself then then college kids Do at a lake house! lol This film washorribly bad i regret spend the money to go see it in theaters. Atleast i Didn't waste the money to see it in 3D!

Not exactly your usual teen horror flick

You might think this movie is about one character after another beingeaten by a shark, but, aside from the prologue, and an arm being tornoff, it's not the sharks that are causing the real trouble. This is no"Piranha", but it still is a fun movie to sit through. What I didn'trealize, however, is that these sharks were actually dumped in thewater by a couple of bad guys. I may not have seen this story linecoming, but it sure made a slightly interesting movie more so. Theseare true villains, people that you love to hate, and it gives thismovie some suspense. Another thing: Just when you think the sheriffcouldn't be behind it, it turns out he is. The film is called "SharkNight", which explains why the movie takes a while to get where it'sgoing.*** out of ****

No so bad its good here, this is just plain bad.

My god this movie is horrible, I am quite a fan of shark movies and allthat jazz do I looked forward to this new installment in the genre, however I must say that this movie is just ridiculous. For these moviesto work I think they need to have some humor thrown in to the mix, films such as Piranha 3d know what they are and play with it but SharkNight just takes itself far too seriously and in the end it's just badbad bad.Even Sara Paxton and Chris Zylka, two young actors who I quite enjoycouldn't save this film. The fact that you barely even see any sharksis dumb too, basically all you see us fin and that's it, and the sceneswhen you do see a shark the special effects are so cheaply done that Ifelt like I was having a joke played on me, the special effects are notmuch better than the ones that you see in the SyFy TV movies likeSharktopus, but even those films are better than this garbage. One scene when a shark literally flies out of the water and attacks aman who is hanging on to a tree is just ridiculous, these people can'tbe really taking it serious I hope. I strongly urge everyone to savetheir money and go and rent either The Reef or a SyFy film, anything isbetter than this. I hope Sara Paxton is able to recover.

Awesome PG-13 violence!

A splendid PG-13 film and a profound PG-13 experience. A masterpiece ofgood, old fashion PG-13 style, violent, dramatic, subtle, touching, beautiful, delicate, cruel, mixture of deep emotions and slices ofcompletely "family-friendly" gore. PG-13 atmosphere and charmingacting. Brilliant dialogs and a form of elenchos method. And the art todefine the life as magnificent web of facts, gestures and desires.I saw this film as a catharsis exercise. In many forms, for me, thisfilm is a way in my subconscience. An occasion to discover answers atold personal questions, to feel the touch of an old lady which was morethan a special presence, nostalgic recollection, best friend orcollection of virtues but a piece of sense of life. In same measure, inside the purling of memories, important was the image of great SaraSara Paxton. Not like an amazing actress but as master of a worldnuances, with shadow of mystery and essence of gestures.Ms. Paxton is testimony of splendid Old Hollywood tradition but, inthis film, the importance of avoiding shark attacks, in a subtlemanner, a circle in acting with Dustin Milligan is more than element inchain of "Mansquito", "Seed of Chucky", "Sharktopus" or "ChromeSkull:Laid to Rest 2". It is not only good work but proof of a fascinated artand splendid professionalism. And not for the role of Dustin Milliganbut for the delicate reflection of Ms. Paxton's (wholly PG-13ish)acting.A splendid PG-13 film . Romance, drama, sea mammals devouring landmammals, PG-13 sensibilities, trip in the respiration of PG-13feelings.

Same old story, technically flawed and poor, predictable plots

The movie has nothing spectacularly different than the regular oldshark movies we have seen, except here we have some really bad humanfaces too. The shoots are absolutely predictable. 3d is not done well, and we could not feel any special effects whatsoever. Some scenes are so technically flawed that even small kids could pullthem out - like searching for shark-cut hand near the beach when it waslost in deep ocean ! We were frantically waiting for movie to end and were the first ones,to get up the second it ended, and looked out for the exit door... Evenafter coming out we could not gain ourselves for sometime as the moviehad really made an awful saddening effect on us

Hot teens, sick villains oh and dont forget the sharks...

Shark Night 3D has a simple plot and its nothing we haven't seen before- college students on a deserted island with shark infested waters. This movie has a very predictable plot and very little characterdevelopment even on the main characters which doesn't make you feelanything when a character dies. You can guess how the sharks got in thewater way before the movie is even half over, which completely killedsome of the fun.If the plot doesn't make you iffy then you would look at the cast, mostof whose names many of us have never heard of. The only really goodperformance in this movie was from Dustin Milligan, his acting wassolid. The movie was just to un-realistic for my liking. For instance, sharksdon't leap out of the water often nor do they attack every human being. On top of that the movie's shark kill scenes are basically screamingand bloody water, there is little to no gore. The 3D was good whenunderwater but otherwise it did nothing for the movie. The movie isn'teven a horror, there are just moments of suspense before the kill andthat's it.The 3D was used well in some parts but for the majority ofthe movie it was not necessary. So if you're in the mood for half-naked college students, some suspenseand blood and a movie with a predictable plot, Shark Night 3D is themovie for you! Otherwise, you should pass on this one.

It seems like the only folks who can still produce good monster flicks are the Japanese.

About this time last year, I saw a movie called "Piranha." It was aloose remake of a 1978 cult favorite produced by Roger Corman; the sortof cheesy B-movie that was so laughably bad that it ascended to beinggood fun. That was, of course, the original film, not the remake, whichmade it onto my list of the worst movies of 2010. Now, exactly one yearlater, my hopes for seeing a good creature-feature on the silver screenhave once again been crushed by what was, essentially, the exact samepicture I saw last fall. The only difference is, now the obnoxious,hard-to-endure stick-figure characters are being munched on by big fakeCGI sharks instead of big fake CGI piranhas. But it's really the same scenario. Some brainless young adults arefrolicking about on a big, freshwater lake when all of a sudden, peopleare being tossed about and pulled under by unseen attackers. Aboutthirty minutes in, it's revealed (as if we didn't already know) thatthe lake has been infested by sharks. And not just great whites, either. No, there are hammerheads, tiger sharks, bulls, and evencookie-cutters. How are all of these oceanic species ending up in afreshwater lake? Well, the movie gives an explanation, but it's one ofthe most outrageously bad plot twists in recent years. And remember,I'm an aficionado on the junk monster movies that pop up on the SyFyChannel every weekend. Now, I do not go to a monster movie looking forgreat character study or plot logistics. I go there looking for goodold-fashioned, escapist fun. Only when a B-movie becomes so incrediblyempty and devoid of joy do I start nitpicking on things I mightotherwise overlook until after the credits have rolled. But the writingand directing of "Shark Night" (which by the way, mostly takes placeunder a bright sunny sky) is so bland, so unenthusiastic, soabsent-minded that it left me looking at my watch after about twentyminutes. After the first attack sequence, which starts with apredictable twist and then becomes a practical shot-for-shot knock-offfrom the all-more-effective opening scene in "Jaws," the only thingthat ran through my mind was wondering how long it would be beforeSteven Spielberg and Universal decided to pitch out a lawsuit forcopyright infringement. The whole movie looks and feels very much like it was made directly fora television release, giving it a sort of schizophrenic, out-of-placefeeling. The fact that the performances are beneath comment does nothelp any, since they are on screen far more often than the cartoony,computer-generated sharks who can twist their necks as flexibly as ahuman arm and snarl like lions. In addition, there is the other bigproblem that I also had with "Piranha": dopey exploitation. The movie'sfar more interested in ogling at the hindquarters and torsos ofpartially-naked models-turned-'actors' than it is in developingplausible attack scenarios or engaging the audience in the way only agood B-movie can.Well, at least there weren't any underwater lesbian scenes this time.No chewed up, sex organs either. Thank heaven. If the writers had realized that they were making a movie for the bigscreen and not for television, "Shark Night" might have proved to be asolid, lighthearted matinée. Instead, it fails to recognize what itought to have been and pretends to be a grade-A exploitation flick, falling flat from the beginning. In regards to its 3D: it's thoroughlyunimpressive. Granted, I am not the biggest fan of 3D; I think it's acheap, unengaging gimmick. But half the time, you wouldn't know thiswere a 3D movie if it weren't for the bulky glasses sitting on yournose. It's still murky and nothing jumps out from the screen except fora few pieces from a motorboat and some seaweeds. Not scary, notentertaining, not even remotely interesting, "Shark Night" was one ofthe more unhappy times I've had at the movies. It seems like the only folks who can still produce good monster flicksare the Japanese. Their contemporary rubber monsters smashing miniatureTokyos and Osakas are far more interesting than any monster mayhem I'veseen on the big screen in a long while.

wow

Holy s%&t this movie is bad! Terrible screenplay, horrid. Some of theworst characterizations I've ever seen, acting out in some seriouslyimplausible ways. Who the hell knows if these people can actually act? It's possible, but you wouldn't know from watching this. This is theworst kind of soap-opera-y melodramatic fluff .... oh, and then you getyour occasional poorly executed shark attack. That's not anexaggeration. These attacks are not scary or disturbing in theslightest and the sharks look very fake. Baaaaaaaad, bad bad bad bad -damn-it - there is a good post-JAWS shark attack movie just waiting tobe made - I know it! This ain't it!

Joshua Leonard, comeback king 2010!!!

What there is of a plot goes like this. The guy who did 'Snakes on a plane' decides to make 'Sharks in asaltwater lake'. Realising the title isn't as catchy, he changes it toShark Night, which actually happens in the final third. The majority ofthe movie is in the day.Group of friends go to the lake looking buff and beautiful, apart fromthe one who is in Avatar. The lake is infested by two or three sharks, and they start taking out the kids one by one.One on particular has his arm bit off, and decides to fight the sharkin one instance, and in the next instance, just gives up and lets theshark have him.All this could have something to do with the annoying ginger one fromBlade, but this film does prove that the Blair Witch project was notreal, and Josh just went home for eleven years, waiting patiently for ashark themed 3D movie script to land on his door mat.To be honest, this is pretty turgid stuff. The acting is mediocre andit really doesn't have anything about it.Coming from Elis, I was expecting something a little cheesy like 'DeepBlue Sea', but he seems to have taken the charm from his movies. It's watchable stuff though, for all the wrong reasons, but you know afilm is bad, when a shark jumps out of the water and grabs a guy cleanoff a jet ski....in the dark.At least t didn't have 'fin' at the end of the movie. we just had somegod-awful music video.

It Would Probably Be More Entertaining to Get Eaten by a Real Shark

Shark Night 3D (2011) 1/2 (out of 4) A girl takes her six friends back home to her Louisiana Gult housewhere they plan on a weekend of fun but things change when one of themare attacked by a shark. With the friend bleeding to death, the othersmust find a way off the island but the sharks have their own ideas.Congratulations must go to director David R. Ellis who managed to makethe worst film of 2009 (THE FINAL DESTINATION) and it seems as if he'sgoing to make the worst for 2011. I don't mean to be mean but I hatewalking out of a theater angry and for two films in a row this isexactly what Ellis has done. I'm sorry but if you don't know how tomake 3D work then you really shouldn't be making a 3D movies. If youcan't direct actors to do dramatic scenes then you should probably askthe screenwriter to leave these scenes out of a movie. If you make somesort of thriller and can't bring any suspense then perhaps you shouldjust pass on the project. In reality, I understand it's a job and thepaycheck is something that even I would take but the only problem isthose poor fools such as myself who are laying down hard earned dollarsfor this crap. SHARK NIGHT 3D is an incredibly stupid movie thatfeatures really bad dialogue, horrible, unscary situations and a storythat is so silly that you really want to start throwing things a thescreen. I'm going to be nice and not ruin a few "twists" in the film inregards to why the sharks are doing what they're doing and how they gotinto a lake but those who do walk into the movie should be expectingsomething so stupid that not even something like MEGA SHARK VS. GIANTOCTOPUS would have to guts to attempt. The PG-13 rating certainly hurtsthe shark attacks as they're all rather lame as we don't get to see anyviolence or gore. Yes, you can make a horror movie without the violenceand gore but if you do this then you at least need to deliver somesuspense and since that never happens you might as well go the cheaproute and throw out some blood. The 3D effects are put to use a couplegood times when things come flying at the screen but most of theattacks don't benefit from the format. I thought the majority of theactors did as well as you could expect with Sara Paxton, DustinMilligan and Sinqa Walls sticking out. SHARK NIGHT 3D is a really badmovie and thankfully it gets bad enough at points where you can atleast get a few laughs out of it. I'm the type who really enjoy badmovies but these type of films should go directly to something likeSyFy Channel or DVD where viewers don't have to pay much. When a filmasks you to spend $11 or more then it needs to be of higher quality andthis film is just a complete rip-off without anything going for it.

Yes, of course. Ultra-realistic. Not.

Seven students go to spend a holiday on the luxury holiday home of oneof the girls: it sits on its own island in the Florida everglades. Andthey are having a lovely time when the first shark attack comes. This film is essentially someone stalking the dorm wiping out studentsone by one, except it is sharks not slashers, and the students are allin their bathers. There is a completely preposterous plot developmenthalfway through, then another even more preposterous plot developmentbuilding on the first one, and an utterly idiotic final shot. The castare all unknown and, regrettably, this movie is unlikely to change thatfor any of them. Much of the shark antics are ripped bodily from Jaws. This is the sort of movie which used to be made for the direct-to-videomarket, pumped up by 3D.On the plus side, it is pretty to look at with attractive scenery, thegirls look nice in bikinis, there are six-packs on view for the ladies, the 3D is sometimes effective, and CGI sharks have come on a long way.And there is a shot halfway through featuring a shark and a jetskiwhich made me laugh out loud (it wasn't meant to, I don't think).

My review of Shark Night 3D

Look I could easily give you a blow by blow of how stereotypical andunderdeveloped the characters are of how there is at no time in thisfilm character growth and development or character redemption takingplace or how ineffective the character acting was by the actors or howlame and overused and played out the scenes were Hell i could even talkabout the fact that shark films have been done to death but I'll save you the troublethis film was absolute GARBAGE!I thought this film was so bad I demanded from the theater my moneyback! and I got it!

Wow!

And this is not a good wow! Horrible interactions between the actors, terrible plot. Very predictable, no surprises. Just the typical teen -stranded on an island - no signal - no transportation - bad locals.Usually, I like being frustrated by silly things, but not every 10thsecond. I'm hurting a little here. It's just so bad. How about, in thenext future, collect a cast of some 60 year old people, now THAT Iwould enjoy (wonder why), but at least it would be a differentexperience, kind of cool actually. Lightbulb anyone? They didn't tryvery hard to make this a movie to remember did they. Poor things, Ifeel bad. And the shark? What? Do they growl? Is that normal sharkbehavior? In that case, I learned something today.
