Visually dazzling, and outrageously energetic. Die hard video gamers will especially have a fun time.
The film centers on Scott Pilgrim (Played by Michael Cera), the bassguitarist for a band, and an overall slacker living with his gayroommate Wallace (Played by Kieren Culkin). His life is suddenly turnedupside down when he falls in love with the mysterious Ramona Flowers(Played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Not only does he face the problemof currently dating a clingy teen four years his junior (Played byEllen Wong), but in order to date Ramona, he must battle, and defeather seven evil exes (Played by the likes of Jason Schwartzman, ChrisEvans, and Brandon Routh), and along the way learns how to be a lessselfish person. It's not hard to see why the film, based on the series of graphicnovels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, might turn some away. The novels' builtin fan base will love the film I imagine, but it might be prettydivisive to those who aren't familiar with the source material, thisincludes myself. As for the overall product, I loved it.The film is directed by Edgar Wright, who you may remember best fordirecting truly original, energetic, and hilarious comedies like Shaunof the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. Like those two, he does this filmbeautifully. The comedy is wonderful, his direction is great, and hemakes this film a visual and audial spectacle. He smartly presents thefilm in the style of video games, making great use of graphics, andaudio, as well as providing some inspired sight and sound gags. Unlikemyself though, it could prove exhausting to some, even to the point ofTerry Gilliam exhausting, but Wright knew full well what he wanted tomake, what he wanted the tone to be, and he hit it right. As for the talent, I do think Michael Cera is getting majorly typecastin this sort of geek role, but he does a good job and provides somegood laughs, and fans of his will be surprised by how much ass hekicks. Mary Winstead's character, and performance is great. She addssome clever nuances to her performance, and the mystery of hercharacter makes her all the more interesting. The rest of the castwhich includes Kieran Culkin, Ellen Wong, Anna Kendrick, Allison Pill, and the exes who I won't list individually, are fantastic as well, andget some great laughs. Now for the action. There are a few directors who do action better thanWright, but there's no one who does action quite like him. He's simplya master of scene build up, and pacing, and how he shoots the film, matched with the brilliant efforts of his film editors Johnathan Amosand Paul Machliss is simply inspired. Every cut, every transition, every change in frame rate is a pure masterstroke of ambition for afilm that is fast paced, hilarious, visually stunning, exhilarating, and brimming with great talent in spite of the film's fewimperfections.Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is one of the year's finest films, and Igive it **** out of ****

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World has everything you could possibly want in a film!
Director Edgar Wright ('Hot Fuzz', 'Shaun of the Dead') has given "theworld" something truly special. He's given the cinematic-world avisually appealing, eye-candy, adventure of a movie! 'Scott Pilgrim vs.The World' is truly a unique film, and one of the best this year!Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is a 22-year-old guy with relationshipissues. His last serious relationship ended with his heart broken, andnow he's dating a 17-year-old high school student, Knives Chau (EllenWong). However, we're never sure if he truly likes Knives, or if he'sjust desperate. But when he meets the girl of his dreams, literally, his world is forever changed. This girl is Ramona Flowers (MaryElizabeth Winstead), and for some reason, Scott has a thing for her Âhe thinks she's the one. However, to truly be with Ramona, Scott has todefeat her "Seven Evil Exes;" he literally has to fight and battle witheach one.The most exciting moments in the film are these seven battles. The filmkeeps these battles interesting by having a variety of characters, eachwith their own unique personalities. Before seeing the film, I knewthat the battles would be video-game-esquire, but I thought that thebattles would all be similar, and eventually get tedious. However, Iwas gladly wrong. Each and every one of the battles were unique intheir own ways, depending on who the "Evil Ex" was. One is Bollywoodinspired, one music-inspired, and more. Some battles are more memorablethan others, but each is visually stunning, and unique.I loved the personalities of each of the "Evil Exes." All of them werehilarious in their own way; one was a vegan-powered jerk, another was aHollywood actor. They're all so unique; one was even a girl! Ramona'sfemale ex, Roxy Richter (Mae Whitman), was totally badass and had aslightly special speech pattern. I loved how some of these battlesrequired Scott Pilgrim to use strategy to defeat the exes, and not justsimple brute force. Some of the battles required Scott to use what heknows about his opponent's background and personality, and it'sgratifying to see how Scott pulls off some of these victories. These"Evil Exes" are, for the most part, portrayed by unknowns. The mostpopular, to me, were Chris Evans ('Fantastic Four') and Brandon Routhe('Superman Returns'). However, the celebrity-status of the actors inthe film didn't technically affect the way we viewed their characters. For example, Chris Evan's character of Lucas Lee was, to me, the leastinteresting of the "Evil Exes." 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' had many, many characters, each different, and for the most part, are likable andenjoyable.Scott has a gay friend and roommate, Wallace, played wonderfully byKieran Culkin. Culkin's portrayal of Wallace truly stole the film.Culkin's character was funny in almost every scene, and many of hislines were quotable-worthy. Knives was a crazy character that couldhave been portrayed in two different ways  annoyingly or awesomely.Ellen Wong does a great job at making Knives appear obsessive andcrazy, while at the same time innocent and lovable; her character couldhave easily been seen as annoying, but Ellen Wong pulled her off theright way. Also, Knives is totally badass by the end of the film.Aubrey Plaza ('Parks and Recreation') portrays a memorable minorcharacter, Julie Powers. Julie is one of Scott's friends and has theunique ability to censor her speech, which is hilarious. The film has so many different characters that are so different andunique, that it's hard to choose a favorite. However, there are somecharacters that could've been better. To me, Ramona Flowers seemed toodistant and not-right for Scott Pilgrim. Her character just had astraight-faced, uncaring personality throughout the entire film. Ididn't sense any chemistry between her and Scott Pilgrim, but hey, maybe that's what her character's supposed to be like. The twin "EvilExes" barely had any screen time, and had a short battle; theyliterally didn't speak one line.'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' has an extremely fast pacing, and itworks great. Straight from the beginning of the film, you can tell thateverything happens fast in the film. The dialogue is even fast at someparts. This fast-pace requires fast transitions, and I felt like thetransitions were well-done. The visuals in the film were also amazingand well-done. I loved how well the film managed to pull off a video-game feel, and make it not cheesy. The film had "pee bars," "coins asrewards," "health points," and so much more. All of these things fitnaturally in the film, and they're awesome. The weapons were amazing, and the fights were all well-choreographed.'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' has everything you could possibly want ina film! It has wonderful actors, memorably unique characters, aninteresting plot, quotable dialogue, a unique style, spectacularvisuals, and so much more! It's truly, truly unique (I know I've saidthat a lot, but it really is!) and is definitely a stand-out film frommost that are currently out. No other film this summer, or this year, has been this stand-out since Inception. Both films are definitely onthe top of my "Best Films of 2010â³ list, for sure!PS: Who doesn't like Michael Cera? He's such a lovable actor, and hasthat unique ability to be "liked" in any film he does! He's awesome.PSS: 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' is ridiculously awesome. Go see it!You don't have to be "nerdy" or "geeky" to like or understand thefilm's concept and unique style. I went with a lot of friends, and mostof them surely weren't the gamer-types. The film's appealing to malesas well as females, for sure!PSSS: Once again, go see 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World!'

Awesome!
Wow! This movie was amazing! With the decades current trend of turningcomic books into feature films, there are many differentinterpretations and ways to present an already visualized story. Eventhough I haven't read most of the comics, I must say this adaptationhas been one of my favorites! I loved the choice to make very stylizedvisuals. I love how fight and song sequences would merge int It was funto go from understand the normalcy of the characters and then feel asif you are in the middle of reading a comic or playing Street Fighter. It was both a comic and artful way of moving the plot or givingcharacterization. The script was great too, with many fun quips anddialogs, as well as great timing and delivery by the actors.Although I loved the mixture of realistic and animated qualities, italso made the movie a little confusing at times. I kept waiting forthere to be an explanation of why Scott suddenly had powers near thebeginning, as well as to how the exes got them. As the movieprogressed, however, it got easier to simply except that it was part ofthe surreal and fun aspect of having both worlds. I also had a hardtime sympathizing with Scott's character (the jerk!) but the end alsohelps make up for that. This movie reminded me somewhat of Kick-Ass, but it was a verydifferent approach. There was much less violence, the characters inScott merely evaporating into piles of money. In Kick-Ass, the focusseemed to be more on the reality of where a super hero comes from andthe problems that come from living in "real life". Scott Pilgrim didalmost the reverse, moving from normality into parts of imaginaryworlds, but with an acceptance that it's simply a fun and colorfulstory.Very good! Go see it!

Best Movie In Years
I hadn't been this excited for a home release since the extended Lord of the Rings releases. This is a love story for the kids who grew up with video games, flashing lights and short attention spans. The 80's and 90's never died, they just crept away into Bryan Lee O'Malley's head. Great acting, great special effects (that don't detract from the experience), great music. Michael Cera brings it down to 10/10 when it could have been an 11.

Kill Bill meets Annie Hall inside Mario Bros World
That's the only way I can describe the experience of this movie.I am soooo glad I chose to see this movie this weekend instead of The Expendables, where I could have spent two hours counting the dead bodies and the overdone cliches. Scott Pilgrim is so creative. I'm not familiar with the graphic novel of the same name (yet), but this movie was done with graphic novels in mind. I can't get over all the visuals this movie had to offer. The way the phone's ring and the bass lines (D D D D D D D D) are shown visually are so unique. And the story and plot done like different levels of a video game is like a breath of fresh air in movies. It's just pure fun! And I have an ulterior motive to see the actress, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who I've followed since Sky High, and even more of a babe in this.

25 years of my video game obsession rolled into one movie
I have never left a movie wanting to round up my friends andimmediately going back to see a movie a 2nd time right away, but ScottPilgrim did just that to me.Problem being since I am a video game nerd I don't really have anyfriends.Never the less I will tell you why you must see Scott Pilgrim Vs TheWorld. The movie on a purely visual stance is breath taking, the overthe top fight scenes are done extremely well and all the little wordsand status bars throughout are cleverly placed. You do not need to be anerd of epic proportions to enjoy this movie. You do however have toenjoy silly humor and suspend your disbelief. There is nothing realistic about this movie, characters are knockedthrough four walls before being punched in the face. Through hundredsof feet and have wall speaker dragons coming at them. It is a goofymovie at its core but its so much fun and the performances all aroundare so well done that you will not care how silly its truly being.Enjoy this wild ride, see it in theaters now! And buy the Blu-raywhenever it comes out! There is no reason this movie should be earningless than Step Up 3D!

Many Levels Above
"Scott Pilgrim vs the World" is the most visually stunning andelaborate film taken from the pages of a graphic novel since"Watchmen." Actually, it's probably the most visually stunning film, period, since "Watchmen." And even more so, it is a prime example ofcinema's ability to reconfigure familiar tropes (in this case, theRomantic Comedy run through the John Hughes/Diablo Cody hipster-slangscript machine) into a finished whole that transcends nearly allcrippling convention. Like Hughes and Cody, the language of "ScottPilgrim" is distinctive, pop-culture savvy, and with a unique heartunder its glossy, showy surface. Who knew that Edgar Wright, thepromising director of such quaint-by-comparison genre homages as "Shaunof the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" had the capability to wield extravagantdigital effects (with more dexterity than most high-budget filmmakers)in a film that sets a new precedent for hip romantic comedies? ScottPilgrim (perpetual adolescent Michael Cera, typecast to his advantagehere), the bass player in a struggling indie band, is getting over hislast girlfriend by dating an Asian high-schooler; when he notices theneon bob of a steampunk rollerblader (the wonderfully deadpan MaryElizabeth Winstead) one day, he becomes fixated on winning her over.Little does Scott suspect that this enticing babe has 7 ex-boyfriendshe must lay to waste in order to claim her hand (and thus proving thatchivalry is not dead). The film's setup takes some adjustment (with anemphasis on superimposed factoids about characters, comic-book soundeffects, and storyboard panels laying out certain plot details), but bythe time Scott is thrust into his first battle (not ironically at hisband's first gig), Wright's approach establishes itself as something tobe reckoned with -- these guys don't fight with traditional fisticuffs;they fight with the impossibly slick maneuvers of joystick-controlledvideo game Spartans. While it may sound eye-rolling in print, thechoreography is smoothly rendered and edited with a precision thatkeeps us firmly rooted in the action; and better yet, Wright finds newways to tweak and spin this fresh, candy-colored technique over theremainder of the film, so that it never gets tedious. By its close,"Scott Pilgrim" has given us an incendiary tale of romance andintrigue, never sacrificing character or story for the sake of merevisual dazzle. It surprises me to say, but I think it's the best movieof 2010.

If you dont get any fun out of watching this, you dont have a pulse...
This movie is fun. It's like a three ring cotton candy circus. It iscolorful, graphically intense and also has an underlying deepness to goalong with its humor and comic book action. I haven't personally read the graphic novel so I don't know how itcompares, but it is hard not to like this movie, unless you personallyhave a problem with Michael Cera or only want to watch "real" dramaslike the Blind Side and can't get your head around younger fare.I loved how the movie moved like a comic book, but not in the way SinCity, 300 or Watchman did, this one has a completely different feel.People laughed out several times at the jokes and even though I don'tlike action movies, the actions like people changing into coins andvideo game effects kept me interested. The only way I could describe it is if you put Ghost World and SomeKind of Wonderful in a blender and baked it, then sprinkled a copy ofJuxtapoz on it and frosted it with a Nintendo/Street Fighter glaze. Itreminded me of all these things. The acting was very good, so good infact, I wouldn't single out any of the actors, they were alloutstanding and I am glad a lot of the characters looked and acted likenormal kids and that made it more believable. OK, maybe a crazy Chineseschoolgirl and the hip, Gothic/indie girl are stereotypes at times, butat least they are stereotypes I want to see. And items like the "bassoff" and fighting the dragon twin DJs in one scene (great use offantasy in the picture) came off as original and fresh to me.If you can't find fun in this film, then you don't have a pulse. If youare gloomy going to see this, I am sure you'll feel like you rode aroller-coaster before you get out of the theater. And I recommendseeing this in a theater too and not wait for video, because I thinkthe constant graphics and jokes will be lost on a smaller scene or moveto fast to be enjoyed fully. Even though it is an adaptation of agraphic novel, I feel the idea of this film is original and given thestate of movies nowadays, originally and fun can be hard to find. Thishas both!

Review Scott Pilgrim vs The World
The Pitch: The Young Person's Guide to Love. (Insert 1 x 50p to play)The Review: Cinema as a medium is threatened, if you believe thepopular press. We now prefer to watch movies in our comfy home cinemasand IMAX and 3D are touted as the last hopes of cinema chains keepingpeople seeing movies where they were meant to be seen. But the thingthat will actually keep people coming back is good storytelling, andwhat the great movies of 2010 are starting to show is that it's thelayers of depth of storytelling, and indeed of many other facets of theproduction, that will get people engaged and keep them returning.Edgar Wright's first two movies have had that feeling of layers, working so well at a broad level but also with the finest detailspolished and then joined together in often unexpected ways. Other thanthe obvious directorial touches, though, it's been difficult to tellexactly who contributed what in the two Edgar Wright-Simon Peggcollaborations, so seamless has the join been. What's now abundantlyclear is that Wright can blend just as seamlessly with the rightmaterial of others as well, and has honed from Bryan Lee O'Malley'scomics something that actually feels a level up (if you'll pardon thepun) from his first two movies, unlikely as that may seem. Wright's hada slightly ADD directorial style at times, but one that still fit thevast majority of the material at hand, but here the flourishes aresubtle, and ramped up over the course of the running time. What's truly inspiring about Scott Pilgrim is how many differentcultural themes are composed into the greater structure. Where Shauntook references from the zombie / horror genres and Fuzz raided actionmovie lockers and thrillers (with a smidgen of horror thrown in),Pilgrim is a love story to video games, comic books and indie / rockmusic, among others. As Ang Lee's Hulk proved, translating the visualstyle of a comic book directly to the screen can go wrong in the bestof hands, but the comic book sensibility is retained very effectively,on-screen writing and captions giving a well-structured feel. Somehow, the video game aspects of the comic books form the basis for a visualframe of reference on top of that; as anyone who's played them willknow, keeping your interest is nigh on impossible if you can't followwhat's happening, but the action is well staged, always clear andprogresses effortlessly up through the gears.Through it all, character development is weaved in effortlessly to thetightly plotted but flowing story, and of course O'Malley's titaniccontributions should not be understated here, having provided much ofthe meat, but the central pairing characters get to work through asmany relationship issues and combinations as a whole Friends box-set,but in a way that feels refreshingly honest and ultimately powerfullycathartic for anyone that's made any mistakes in the past  which, let's be honest, should be most of us. That Pilgrim the movie covers somuch ground in storytelling terms while successfully mining so manylayers of modern culture is nothing short of breathtaking. The cast, meanwhile are all pitch perfect and uniformly brilliant, butCera, Winstead and Culkin should all be proud of what they've donehere. Much is always made of Cera's seemingly repetitive performances, but he continues the trend of Youth In Revolt of twisting that personajust a little further each time, to winning effect here. Of the exes,Brandon Routh is a twisted highlight but you'll wish nearly all of themhad about three times the amount of screen time, so enjoyable is thecompany of the characters and the performances. But more than theacting, Wright and his production team have assembled an embarrassmentof riches in the craft departments; from musical collaboratorsincluding Nigel Godrich and Beck, through Brad Allen's stuntcoordination to Bill Pope's cinematography, everyone has raised theirgame and the final product somehow manages to exceed expectations, which started pretty high. It's the emotional depth, though, that takes this all the way up to theclassic level. By the end you'll find yourself rooting for thecharacters and their eventual fates, and there's a delicious irony thatthis movie is about growing up when the cultural fabric it's woven fromwants us to remain young at heart for ever. Overall, this is justanother affirmation that Edgar Wright, in his own way, ranks alongsideChristopher Nolan as one of the finest British directors of our times.Continue? Yes, please. Why see it at the cinema: Despite all the above, there is onereservation; as with Shaun and Fuzz, there is probably an entry levelfor required knowledge to get from it as much as I did, in that knowingnothing about video games or comic books that aren't Spider-Man couldhamper your enjoyment here in the same way that not knowing somethingabout zombies or action movie clichés may not allow you get the mostfrom those other movies. But the game-mimicking aspect ratio shifts andextraordinary level of detail really do deserve to be seen on the bigscreen. The Score: 10 / 10

Strictly for the kiddies
I remember enjoying the Scott Pilgrim books in elementary school, andmy 4-year-old loves this movie. As an adult, however, I find it painfulto watch. It isn't that the movie is bad, at least not in the samesense that schlocky sci fi and horror movies are bad. The children doacceptable acting jobs, although the adult actors are lackluster. Thesets, costumes, and special effects are adequate. The music is bouncy. There are lots of fun Scott Pilgrim stunts and much childhood wishfulfillment. All good, clean fun. Somehow, though, the film is lessthan the sum of its parts.I think it must be the plotting and pacing. The Emo posterboy ScottPilgrim so outmatches his opponents -- a villainous series of exes andan uncompassionate human services worker -- that you never feel anysuspense or concern for his safety. In fact, Pilgrim comes across assuch a smart-mouthed brat that I began to sympathize with hisplaymates' whiny father. The story itself meanders from incident tounrelated incident until the movie positively drags. So, this is a movie that it is safe to let your kids watchunsupervised. That's a good thing, because you won't want to sitthrough it yourself, at least not more than once.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Expendables, Scott wins by KO
I was just looking for a way to kill some time today and saw that most critics gave Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World positive reviews. I expected nothing more than mild entertainment, like my mindset when seeing The Expendables, but I left the theater with a surprise thought in my head. I have seen 35 movies in theaters so far this year, but the one I just walked out of is my second favorite, behind only Inception. I didn't expect that at all. It probably helped that the audience I saw it with was very vocal in the laugh department and that's always a plus when watching a comedy. I can't remember the last time I laughed as much at the movies. The dialogue and editing are very clever, but it's all the visual gags that take it beyond anything I've ever seen. Whether it's all the video game related music and concepts, or the Seinfeld theme, followed by a scene with a laugh track coming out of nowhere, it never stops thinking of new ways to make you smile in awe of it. To make a great thing even better, it also pulls off the action element and a minor romantic angle for the ladies. The fight scenes are creative and unique, and they even found room to throw in a few original rock tunes. I'm not the biggest Michael Cera fan, mainly because he's always acts the same, though I do admit that nobody can play a dork like him. His timing and delivery is excellent and he even had me believing in Michael Cera the action star by the end. This is easily my favorite role of his. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was another bit of perfect casting. She even managed to look good in all three of her crazy hair colors. Kieran Culkin got more than his share of laughs as Cera's gay roommate. All of the other supporting players (Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Anna Kendrick and Jason Schwartzman being some of the big names) from top to bottom were amazing, without a single weak link. Writer/Director, Edgar Wright, of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame, got nearly everything right with this mini-masterpiece. You don't have to be a gamer to enjoy it, but it will sure make you appreciate it that much more. I guess I'm gonna have to make some room in my Blu-ray collection for this baby.

Edgar Wrights Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of the most uniquely enjoyable movies from this summer season
Since opening opposite Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables and JuliaRoberts' Eat Pray Love, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World hasn't had a chanceto hit it big at the box office. I guess that's because the twopictures I just mentioned have something of a pre-sold audience whilethis one only has an appeal to those that have read the graphic novelsthis movie is based on. I'm here to say that despite not having readthe source material, I very much enjoyed this movie! Oh sure, it took awhile before I got into it but once I did, I never allowed myself toquestion why things happened the way they did, I just let myself-as onecharacter said-"be in the moment". Director Edgar Wright put all hiscreative stops here both visually and dialogue-wise that there weretimes I wish I could've rewinded some passages just so I could hear andsee certain scenes again. So on that note, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Worldcomes highly recommended.

I lesbian Scott Pilgrim
Oh, I just love love this film. It's the best, I saw it many times already. I love all the fighting and cool visuals, music, and everything about it. It's super funny and wicked. Great plot and great cast. Scott Pilgram has to defeat the 7 evil ex's of his new girfriend who has different colored hair, like me,though i was dying my hair way before she did... anyway I had no idea what this film was about first off. When i saw the poster, i thought it would be some dumb film about a guy wanting to be a good guitarist, but the trailer told me otherwise. I saw the film with a friend and we both enjoyed it. It's a fantastic everything, yay!! Go see it!

A Childs Cinematic Ballet of Racism
Scott Pilgrim vs. Th World is an adaptation of a graphic novel by thesame name. The story focus on Scott Pilgrim a slacker who plays bass inan emo band. Asians aren't good enough for Hollywood liberals, sowhites got chosen to play the lead roles in this live-action version. When they say, 'We want to go white,' they have a very smooth way ofsaying it, and the recent one is the word 'traditional', "Oh, you know, you're just not what we were looking for, your skin is a little offwhite". While Hollywood has lobbed some incredible ethnic castinglulu's over the last century, it must be stated that racialauthenticity has made considerable strides in the last two decades, particularly on television. Yet, the financial risks of modernfilmmaking continue to hamper the cause when it comes to major studioreleases. If said project needs to earn money, said project will becast to achieve the greatest level of mainstream success at any cost.In the end, will Hollywood cite the boycott from Asian groups as thereason for the film's still-to-be-determined box office performance?Sadly, probably not. Ultimately, the full responsibility will remainwith Edgar Wright. After all, it is he who will have to answer to thecriticism of a pedestrian script, awkward performances, eschewing thebasic premise of the original concept and other fatal weaknesses thatwill most likely contribute to the failure of this proposed franchise. But, a bigger reality must be examined. While the calls for boycotts and other protests (like a recent taggingof the Paramount studio walls with the words "Race Bender" on MelroseAve.) are not without a point, the heavily wired global village needsto take a stronger role in how it is represented by mainstream media.Bottom line? I would defiantly recommend this to anyone, especiallypeople who enjoy action films and video games. I took an hour of thisdog, for the team...then I got my money back. Pointless nonsense. You've been warned. (1-Star for film + 1-Star for creative originality= 2-Star Total)

Fantastic film - funny, fast paced, original
Went to see this last night at Brixton Ritzy and was blown away. Somuch effort has been put into this film technically - the camera work, post production, audio are astounding - not just technically impressivebut creatively wonderful. The story is really fun and rockets along - when the pace isn't fastbecause of the action sequences which are many and both exciting andfunny - then it doesn't ever seem to slow down because all the slowerscenes are full of the tensions between the characters. You can tell watching this film that Edgar Wright has complete respectfor the comic book and has succeeded in translating it to a great film. The performances of the actors are all wonderful and you can't help butthink that Edgar must be really good at allowing actors to relax andfeel free to give it there all.Really blew me away this film. So much fun. I hope Edgar gets Oscarsfor this - he must have worked so hard on it.Go and see it! Go go go whilst it's still on the big screen

Seems to be missing something
This review is from: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Amazon Instant Video) I love Edgar Wright - from Spaced to Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead is on my top 10 movies list... but something felt off here. I am of the early video game generation Atari, Odessey 2, Intelevision and the original NES with Rob. I still spend many hours a week playing PS3 and Xbox360, I like comic books, I'm a geek/nerd into pop culture - so this movie is aimed at me, but I still felt it was off. The only thing I can pinpoint is that when the first boyfriend busts onto the screen, it does not compute - and what I mean by that is that the movie takes place much like the world we live in, but all of a sudden normal people are doing video game moves... It took me out of it (though I do like when they become coins when defeated). Maybe if the world was a little less real and more "gamey" it wouldn't have been as disconcerting. I did enjoy the movie but it is not going on my shelf with Shaun and Fuzz.
