There is a brilliant satire in embryonic form here.
These films have become a fast food franchise of menaces; each trap, set piece and sequence still has had more ingenuity applied to it thanany of the dialogue, to the extent that the certification of the filmsis a moot point - we go to see these as slightly more meat flavouredLooney Tunes shorts come to life.By this point, anyone who is actually sticking with the series wouldforgive them simply bringing Jigsaw back from the dead - because, cinematically they do this throughout '3D' using flashbacks and TobinBell's voice as the audio guide to the chambers of horror Jigsaw heirHoffman has hatched. In fact it is the heightened rusty, ergonomicaesthetic - a "clunk, click" chunkiness - to the Mythbusters-styledeath devices that maintains interestAllied to the usualcypher-characters-dispatched-like-Freakazoids-good-idea-bad-idea guy issomething of an original idea. The industry of Tony Robbins-styleself-help gurus is parodied slightly in the depiction of Sean PatrickFlannery's character. His is a man who has woven a self-help bookcareer out of masquerading as one of Jigsaw's survivors. Hischaracter's arc is told efficiently, but so much more meat could havebeen wrought from a Tony Robbins/Doctor Phil style character having toface up to the inadequate nature of the advice they preach and punishedfittingly as a result. The fact that the producers wimped out of truly putting this characterthrough the mill - instead cutting back and forth to Hoffman's revengeon characters the audience couldn't care about in the slightest -betrays the fact that 'Saw' has lost its teeth. It does however, withthe nod towards media satire, have a claim as being the first 'Saw'sequel since the original to possess a brain.

completely underrated
Saw VII/3D/The Final Chapter is an awesome ending to a sick andsatisfying series of what could be the best psychopath ever imagined.Saw was a good but surprisingly un-gory movie that introduced us to theawesome Jigsaw.Saw II was a fairly good return with some good traps but wasn't as goodas the first.Saw III left Saw II behind and really intensified the series, it was byfar the most disgusting and painful "saw" yet.Saw IV was another really good entry in the series that ranked with thethird but still didn't reach the first.Saw V ranks with the sixth as the worst in the series, though we didsee some awesome traps.Saw VI wasn't to good, it wasn't very gory or painful, and the trapsweren't anywhere near as cool as some of the others. So how was Saw the final chapter? it was AWESOME! It had some of thebest traps, it wasn't as disgusting as the third one but it was by farthe most painful "saw" movie. The acting was good, the effects wereawesome, the story tied everything together, I didn't see a thing thatI didn't like about SAW 3D: THE FINAL CHAPTER

Did the makers try and put us off Saw for good?
Seriously? Its like they decided "you want traps? you want blood andgore?... well sit through what feels like 2 hours of not much else andwe'll see how you feel about wanting more after that" I did enjoy the movie.. Compared to 2,4 and 5 but I guess I was hopingfor more a bit more plot then traps.. maybe a throwback to Saw 1 (asthis really is a movie for the fans.. few regular folk care anymore)but it wasn't to be.. There were a few great traps in this that weregenuinely disturbing and not too silly. For me the fish hook trap wasthe best, I could actually feel my stomach churning and yet this wasprobably one of the least graphic on screen. The tooth pull one had asimilar effect and Bobby Having to do what he claimed he had alreadydone was a great idea.. Less was definitely more imo. Now if these traps were spread out a bit and not just mashed togetherwith the 101 other traps in the movie I may have.. whats the word?..cared? But they were too diluted by the overkill. I think the biggest example of this was the trap which followed thefish hook one.. If he failed the hook trap she got spikes in the neck, fair enough. In the very next room if he failed the girl got spikes inthe face... hmmm dejavu??.. oh and both girls died.. in fact everyonein a trap died. That also annoyed me. Did that reaaaally have to be thecase? Couldn't bobby actually have redeemed himself and actually savedthe poor innocent girl? Couldn't ANYONE have actually been "saved" by aJigsaw test? isn't that the point? No we have to see a completeinnocent burn alive and the "bad guy" (bobby) curl into a ball feelingsorry for himself. Whats the lesson there?? Don't lie or your innocentloved one will be brutally murdered whilst you get off prettylightly?.. genius logic guys. I was really bummed after that and myears were so tired from an hour or so of screaming that I almost missedthe twist.. Maybe after all, this is a movie for the fans? maybe we'll eventuallyall get credited somewhere as we have all thought up the apprenticegordon storyline at some point, but most of us have been a bit moreimaginative as to wtf gordon would help out in the first place. Aspredictable as it was, it was the ending I wanted though.. I justwished we had a few less traps and another 2 mins of the Gorden/Johnbackstory. Maybe a 3rd and less predictable twist would have been after agreeingto and helping and aiding John, Jill AND Hoffman.. Gordon THEN takesdown Hoffman with other members of s.u.r.v.i.v.e and its revealed thatGordon decided to bring down the whole legacy from the inside.. A twist within a twist.. but what can I say? the writers were off theball by the end. Im glad the didn't try and stretch it over 2 films and as much as Ihave loved the Saw series, its this final instalment that has killedany desire in me to ever see a Saw 8 (this film gave me enough Saw tolast 2 lifetimes)

This is where the Saw series goes completely down the drain !
From the pink blood to the horrible 3D, this movies just plain sucks, and let's not forget about the bad acting! Hopefully they finally get it now and just quit with this series, like they should of done after the third one. I gave out 2 stars just for the comedy, though I don't think it was intentional.

idiocy at its best......
saw 3d......had it not been the part of the saw franchise...it couldhave easily been gone in history as an unnoticed one....but since it'sthe part of one of the most exciting franchise...the expectations werehumongous.....and it crushes them quite well. The only thing which itcarries from its prequels is amount of gore..and yes not to forgetthose traps...but it disappoints in the rest of the department...Thestory,screenplay,writing..everything is pathetic and it reaches to alimit from where it can't get worse...The way the series has beenterminated....it could have been done easily in the 6th installmentitself....but it appears that the makers just wanted to add some moremoney in their kitty...so they come up with it.

Wow... Just wow!
So in my eyes Saw 1 was amazing. It blended an edge of your seat thrillwith a great and new story. Saw 2 on the other hand, although enjoyabledidn't capture the magic that #1 had. The thing is some poke fun at howmany saw films have been made. Well I don't see why just look atHalloween or Star Wars for that matter. The reason there are 7 Sawmovies is because fans still go see them and that results in a good boxoffice. OK so this is supposed to be a Saw 3D review right? Let's getto the review now.I was really pumped going into this Saw because I really loved #5 and#6 because they followed more plot over traps. Saw 3D is no differentwhich is why I enjoyed it. Let's get the negatives out of the way. WhenI heard Saw in 3D I was pumped. Unfortunately while the 3D was verygood, my expectations exceeded it. This is only a minor problem and itis actually really my fault not the movies. Also the dialogue is alittle off at times. The good... Hoffman is a badass, Cary Elwes isback, and the story. Now Jigsaw dies in saw 3 but he has had a bigrecurring role in every other saw film until now. Yes I said it, JohnKramer doesn't show up except in one tiny but VERY powerful scene. Butthe real brilliance of this film lies in both the opening trap and thecar trap. Both are very excruciating to watch but are just brillianttraps. The story keeps you at the edge of your seat until the end andthen slaps you right in the face with what the series is known for...incredible twists. Now it was stated that this is the final film butwhat is so remarkable is how they still set up a twist for a possible8th movie. Now I truly believe the series isn't over if and only ifthis movie exceeds at the box office. After seeing this movie I cantell you, I WANT A 8th SAW!!! SO GO OUT THERE AND SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Finale?...
SAW: THE FINAL CHAPTER (aka: SAW 3D and SAW 7) is actually an excellent finish to the grisly series. Many loose ends are tied up in bloody knots, and some old characters return, including Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes)! This time, Hoffman is on the ultimate rampage, willing to do anything to bring down his vengeance on Jill. Meanwhile, a self-help guru is using his alleged "survival" of one of Jigsaw's traps in order to sell books and become rich. This is, of course, a big mistake, leading to a crash-course in attitude adjustment! S:TFC is a maniacal thriller in it's own right, w/ a definite sense of balls-out insanity! Now, regardless of this being called the "final" SAW film, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more. Why? Well, the ending could easily lead to a further story, and it's been done before (remember FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4: THE FINAL CHAPTER?). Anyway, I'll probably be watching another one of these at some future date...

Not the best Saw, but certainly not disappointing
I liked the first one enough to go see the second one. Although thesecond was more grotesque, I continued onto the third one the followingyear, and then so on & so forth. The thing of it is: the peoplecomplaining about this movie most likely paid to see it. It was thetop-grossing, #1 box office hit on the opening weekend, which, realistically speaking, will persuade the writers to want to make aneighth one. I'm not opposed to the idea, but I can assure a large sumof critics and fans alike are dreading it. Honestly, I will neverunderstand that the most fascinating thing about the franchise is thatit has come out year after year with a successful sequel since 2005when Saw II surfaced, but every year, the same critics and ex-fans aresuckered in and then dis the movie on every movie website and magazineknown to man. I think people really did protest last year and sit outon Saw VI, seeing the premier of Paranormal Activity, but strangelythis 7th installment grossed a lot of money thus far and ranks at a 10%on Rotten Tomatoes. I find that fascinating...Overall, my critique is just this: I adore the series. I was oddly theonly person in the theatre when I saw it on the first day it came out.It was in the morning, so I understood people would probably see it atnight as it's a horror movie and it was Halloween weekend. I wasn'tthoroughly impressed with the 3-D aside from a nice effect at the end(that I won't spoil for you) and a few other moments. However, Ienjoyed the plot and the summation of past characters who had survived. My biggest complaint is that the writers could have went a little moreinto the background of the 'survivor' characters rather than create awhole new agenda with some new characters, as fans of the series (likemyself) are willing to pay attention to the backgrounds of some lesserexplained characters from Saw V and Saw VI. I thought they at leastended it on an uneven note, which is good for Saw fans, because an 8thinstallment, whenever it may be, would be rewarding... the people whohate the series don't have to go see it, if you think you got the pointand find the characters mundane, well, don't torture yourself... someof us out there like psychologically draining horror...My theory on all the Saw installments and their hasty releases ismerely this: think of Saw as a TV series, but the episodes only airyearly with cliffhangers that admittedly keep bringing the crowd backbecause they keep getting ideas and producing more of them. Like a TVseries, the Saw franchise offered consistency, balancing the gore withcharacter backgrounds and suspense. Maybe it's a little grosser than"Criminal Minds," but it is a surefire crime-drama as much as it is ahorror flick. It at least avoids the supernatural aspect of horrorcompletely and navigates it's viewers thru a series of different plotsas more and more information is revealed.Saw VII / Saw 3D offered almost everything it usually does to a Sawfan. I didn't even quite care as much about the 3D fx as I did aboutthe fate of the series and it's antagonist. I believe I'm a littlebiased in reviewing the series as something with it clicks with me, butI swear, if you watched all of them, multiple times, this seventhinstallment wouldn't be a complete train-wreck to you. The progressionof the series from Saw IV to Saw 3D was quite amazing. It involves alot of thinking to sort of connect the dots in these movies, and atleast this last installment could be the end or could promise more, which proves the director/writers were smart enough to leave theaudience with a little anxiety (which is good for some of us, and badfor a lot of us).Saw 3D -- Entertaining at least? Yes. Nice cross-over from Saw VI? Ofcourse. Hate it or not, they made it, even convincing one of the mostacclaimed actors (Cary Elwes)in the series to come back for a round ofmayhem. It sucks to say so for the regular movie-going crowd, but Saw3D was for the fans and for their theories on the fate of thecharacters that remained alive. I'm surprised at how many reviews thisreceived in general as the audience was a little, um, absent when Iattended the first showing in my hometown."Saw VII / 3D" was another trick for the faint of heart and those sickof it all, but it was at least a delightful treat for us die-hards whosort of hoped in the back of our 'twisted' minds that Jigsaw would comeout in a pig mask at the theatre and put us in a trap...8 out of 10.

Saw 3D (2010)
This seventh (and last?) installment in the long-running series is verydisappointing and by the numbers, and that's a shame if this is totruly be "The Final Chapter", as it's being billed in some ads. I wentin expecting something kind of special for the occasion and what I gotwas completely standard stuff. The opening sequence was staged in a different venue than had ever beentried before, which I mistakenly thought was indicative of a welcomenew direction for the storyline. But my hopes were quickly dashed. Iwould say that as early as Part 4 I was starting to feel like thefilmmakers were just throwing in whatever plot twists they could thinkof, and making things up as they went along, but nowhere is this moreevident and desperate in feel than in Part 7.I liked where the plot seemed to be going in bringing back somesurvivors of Jigsaw's earlier death traps, but nothing was followedthrough with this angle, unfortunately. Instead, a few weak "surprises"were attempted, and the biggest "reveal" at the end came as no payoffto me, because it's easily hinted at much earlier on. There were manyquestions left unanswered, things that did not really come together, and I felt nothing for the main male victim who's the pawn in Jigsaw'slatest game of death, which really made the whole race against theclock rather boring to me. We've seen that routine before, and donebetter. As I said, if this is to truly be THE LAST CHAPTER, it is a prettyunsatisfying conclusion. In all fairness, this saga is so exhausted bynow that it would be wise to put it to sleep finally once and for all, except that this doesn't end the franchise in a strong enough way. ButI think the producers played it safe so they could leave their optionsopen, by NOT labeling SAW 3-D as "The Final Entry" on the title of thefilm itself. If it makes money, they can continue, or just pull thelimp plug here if it tanks. Once fan word of mouth gets around, I wouldguess even serious SAW devotees would stay away from this one indroves. As for the 3-D gimmick, the effects were really lacking.Several times during the movie I wanted to take off the specialglasses, as I forgot I was supposedly watching third dimension. "GameOver," indeed.** out of ****

Super
I've seen all SAW Movies and believe me they only got better as time went on. The last one (3D) was out of this world I've seen it twice in the Movies & I know once I get the DVD I'll see it over and over. I've seen practically every franchise, but was truly only happy with SAW. Sorry to see it end or has it??

The Return of Dr. Gordon and The End of the Series
Ahh, we have reached the end of an era. Regardless of whether we likeit or not, Saw is the horror franchise of the last decade. I also readtoday that Saw is the third highest grossing horror series after Fridaythe 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. After this one though, whoknows if it will surpass either of those. Jigsaw has joined Freddy andJason (and Michael Myers) as a classic horror icon. Now on to theactual movie.Saw 3D opens with the glorious return of Dr. Lawrence Gordon played byCary Elwes, arguably the best actor to have been in the Saw series atall. We witness how he originally dragged himself out of the trap hewas placed in during the original Saw movie. He proceeds to cauterizehis wound on a hot pipe which he encounters in the hallway. While hescreams in pain, the opening credits begin. We then meet Bobby playedby Sean Patrick Flanery of The Boondock Saints. He is a public figurewho has earned everything from publicly speaking about his time as avictim and then survivor of a Jigsaw trap. It is revealed very quicklythat he has lied about this and he is kidnapped by Jigsaw (nowDetective Mark Hoffman) so that he may be put through a real test. Therest of the movie follows him through his game. The director Kevin Greutert kept many elements from the previous Sawfilms the same. Greutert is quite the veteran of the Saw movies, havingedited Saw I Â V and directed Saw VI. Knowing this, you would thinkhe'd be perfect for this, but you would be wrong for the most part. While Greutert certainly has exceptional editing skills, his directingcould be considered lacking. I want to repeat that the editing in thefirst few movies was very good and I found it to be one of the bestparts of the film.As these films have progressed, they have gotten more and more bloody. The first film had almost no blood in it whatsoever but as they wentforward, they began to lack more and more plot and replace this withmore and more disturbing violent deaths. We began to see thisespecially in Saw V, which in my opinion is the weakest link of themall, the newest film included. The end of Saw VI reminds me of when Ifirst saw Dawn of the Dead. In Dawn of the Dead, there are a few slowmotion sequences which really give you a taste of the Zack Snyder thatwas to come. There was one death in particular at the end of Saw VIwhich was extremely gratuitous in its violent nature, whichunfortunately was just a fraction of what was to come. The biggest problem with this film was that every death wasridiculously violent, showing entrails falling out of stomachs andlimbs being ripped off while bodies were cut in half completely. Thistype of gore is not what I like to see in my Saw films because itdistracts so much from the plot.Overall, the story would have been a good one were the gore not sodistracting in nature. The one thing which really made the film worthit for me was the return of Dr. Gordon. Without him, this would havebeen a complete pass. There was also a disturbing lack of Tobin Bell.Even being the title character, he was confined to two scenes. If youare a fan of the Saw films and enjoy the mythos of them, then youdefinitely need to see this. In terms of the history and back story ofall the films, the ending truly does come full circle and complete theseries. While the film itself was not very good, it really did finishthe series as it should have. If you have not seen the other films andyou do not know much about the characters, you're likely going to bebetter off skipping this. The big question here is: Is this really the last Saw film? I think wecan all agree that the likely answer is no. I could lean both waysabout this; certainly, if this makes enough money, they will makeanother. It's a cash cow that I imagine they are not exactly ready togive up. From the ending, it is hard to tell which way they would gowith this. It ends in such a way that if they leave it untouched itcould be the perfect ending to the series. However, it is also left ina way that it could be picked up and continued. I suppose only timewill tell what they will decide to do with Jigsaw. With the initial six films, I generally have them in three categories:Saw and Saw II are exceptionally good and I would recommend them toanyone; Saw III and Saw IV complement the series but are not greatstand alone films; Saw V and Saw VI are pretty much not good in anyregard with a minimal amount of the trademark "Saw" twists. It isunfortunate for me to admit, but aside from the very last five minutes, this movie easily fits in to the last of those categories.

I guess one could call it entertaining
I have seen all of the Saw films until now, so I knew I should see the'final chapter'. Look, the first Saw film is very good, but it itself ant no horrormasterpiece and it did have a lot of flaws. However, that twist isgreat. Saw 2 and 3 were very good as well, flawed but still as atrilogy worked. Saw 4 and 5 were still entertaining, since we know thecharacters and all, but there was just no passion anymore as one couldsee. Saw 6 was actually a surprise and turned out to be better than 4and 5. Saw 7, unfortunately, sticks with 4 and 5. The dialogue at timesis just plain ATROCIOUS! The acting as well for the most part, but whenit is doing the traps they are still entertaining, although the trapshere really weren't all that original. The twist itself wasn't veryoriginal either and at this point I hate how the writers keep messingwith the past, this one going back to the original Saw. WEAK WEAK WEAK.But as always with a Saw film, it was entertaining. Saying that, there's not much else to look forward to. Ever since the first there isno real talent involved. This film isn't very well-made, the editingoverbearing and overwhelming like always, the cinematography dry andpassion-less, the music redisposed over and over again, and as twistsare concerned this is probably the weakest of the final reels. Iactually wish the Saw films will continue. I don't really have respectfor them as films, BUT they do provide good entertainment and I reallywished the series had ended on a much better note. But Paramount issmart for holding unto Paraormal Activity, because there are only twofilms of that franchise SO FAR but they have both been better than anySaw film. Oh.... and 'Game Over' has gotten REALLY old.

The Series Goes Out With a 3-Dimensional Bang!
I have had a checkered opinion on this series for awhile. When I first viewed SAW back in '05, I was thrilled and decided it was my favorite original horror film of the decade... at least for a little while. When SAW II and III came along, the vision was destroyed for me, and I sort of resented the series as nothing more than a tacky money maker milking the first movie for everything it was worth. And then something happened. The series kept going, and people kept going to see it. As more and more of Jigsaw's history was unearthed, I found the series to be getting cheesier and cheesier, but also more interesting.Let's get one thing straight, SAW 3D (or SAW: THE FINAL CHAPTER, as they are lamely yet necessarily calling it for home video purposes) is a tried and true popcorn movie; nothing more, nothing less. While I can't say that I've made it to the movie theater for every one of these movies, I can comfortably say that they're much more enjoyable in a theater environment, whether it be an actual cinema or around the TV with a bunch of friends. For me, there's little satisfaction to be had sitting in a room cringing, gagging and laughing all by myself, but it's a lot of fun with another person present. At first I was resenting sequels to the first SAW because I felt that they lowered it from it's pedestal into the pit of B-movies, but I have to give the series credit for going as far as it did. How many film franchises can boast hitting their first seven entries in their first seven years? Not even Godzilla or James Bond can say that much, as many of their movies were given a few years to breathe in between productions.Getting back to SAW 3D specifically, this is not a scary movie. Don't expect much as far as plot or haunting ideas that stay with you for days like some films are capable of producing. What you CAN expect is some haunting VISUALS that might stay with you for days, and some serious creativity in that department. With the absence of Jigsaw himself as a major character, we're left with nothing but cardboard cutouts who we actually want to see die, and we are given just that; in that sense, the movie is a terrific success. There's no sense in delving into plothole peeves; they're there, but that's not why we're watching this movie. SAW 3D, and the SAW series as a whole (with the exception of maybe the first one) is not where we turn for extensive plot and character development, it is where we turn to see the work of some really talented special effects artists giving it all they've got, and I have to applaud the effort.(... And I can't help but once again comment on the title change. I don't really see any harm in calling the movie 'SAW 3D' for home video market, since that is the actual title card that appears in the film, which I'm glad they didn't change. But if they HAD to change the name for perfectly logical reasons, I think 'SAW VII' would have done much better than the dreadfully overused 'The Final Chapter'. Just a minor thought.)

A great finale to a awesome series!
By far the most intense and goriest out of the series! Costas Mandyloris once again one of the many members of serial killer Jigsaw's mentorsas we watch yet once again, people trying to (with not much success imight add) escape the cleverly made traps that make the Saw movies whatthey are. Didn't get to catch this in 3d however I don't think i missedmuch as you can usually tell what is 3d and what is not when watchingthe 2d versions of these 3d films. Without delivering any spoilers, Iwill only say this and that is a lot of unanswered questions getanswered. Sadly this is the last of the series but i guess its betterto call it quits whilst the series is till hot.

SAWs final chapter...
I've been a huge fan of the SAW series since the first one came out forbeing how original, chilling, and dramatic it was. When I heard thatSAW 3D is the last one, I was bummed but yet satisfied of a conclusionof a thrilling giant of a series. Let's face it. If they made severalmore rather than finishing it now, the franchise would crash and burnfor running out of ideas and getting too unreal. As for saying that, isfeels right that SAW 3D should be the last of this tremendous horrorstory of revenge, redemption, rebirth, and revolution.SAW 3D's story plot, in my opinion, overall, was pretty good. I wasexpecting of a more tighter story like the previous one, but it's stillgood as it is. It's great to see old characters of the past in this onebut I didn't feel that much depth with the new characters. I would getto that later in this review. The 3D effects, in my humble opinion, wasn't that special. Sure, it exaggerates depth (foregrownd,middle-ground, background), but what's the purpose. Plus, there wasonly two or three scenes that had guts and other things "coming out" atyou. Overall, don't expect anything great about it.In this final chapter, Jigsaw's last orders for Jill is to kill Hoffmanwith the Reverse Bear Trap. Things don't go as planned when Hoffmancheated out of the trap, ripping his cheek open. In pain and rage,Hoffman begins his hunt for Jill. Jill goes to the police andspecifically asks for Detective Gibson for safety. Gibson and Hoffmanthough had a rocky past when Gibson filed police brutality on Hoffman.Hoffman knew Jill went to him so this is perfect for Hoffman to getsome payback.During this battle, Jigsaw survivor, Bobby Dagen, gets all thepopularity for writing an autobiography about his life-changingexperience. The only problem is though that he's never been in a Jigsawtrap before. For being a complete liar and con-artist, he's been put tothe test to see if he can be a true survivor by rescuing his friendsand his wife.Back to about the characters, It is great to see Cary Elwes return asDr. Gordon! Lets be honest. Everybody was waiting for his return! Butthis version of Dr. Gordon was completely strange. Sure, your lifewon't be the same after you amputated your foot and cauterizing it witha hot pipe, but he acted TOO weird. He sounded more like Heath Ledger'sJoker more than the doctor we knew from the very first film. BobbyDagen was played by Sean Patrick Flanery. He's best known for being inthe Boondock Saints films and the Young Indiana Jones show. I was quitesurprised seeing him in a SAW film and he played Bobby fairly well. Thetimes that I felt he feels out-of-place are the flashback scenes. Idon't know why, but I felt he didn't put that much effort into hischaracter in the flashback sequences. One character I just did not careabout is Detective Gibson. To be honest, he felt very unimportant. Theonly reason why he's suppose to be important because he had a lightgrudge with Hoffman in the past. Secondly, the creators made the actoract very unprofessional as a cop, saying the word, crazy, five or sixtimes in one sentence. In conclusion, SAW 3D is awesome! Few flaws, but still great. It'sobviously a must-see for SAW fans. Sure it's a bummer that SAW hasreached it's end but it was well worth the ride that we've gotten fromthe clever creators of the past six years. GAME OVER.

I think I already Saw this
Yet again assorted unfortunates are placed in over-elaborate traps inorder for them to try to avoid unpleasant deaths for themselves andothers - and when I say unpleasant, I mean grimly and explicitly gory.Given that this particular effort is in 3D, this means lots of physicaltrauma leading to blood and tissue being sprayed at the camera. Exactlywhat you would expect, in fact.Tobin Bell puts in another appearance as Jigsaw - no mean feat giventhat he died four films ago. I found myself wondering just how many oldgrudges he had which resulted in him devoting vast resources andplanning to posthumous payback schemes.Betsy Russell and Costas Mandylor put in repeat (and, presumably, final) appearances as Jigsaw's widow and bent cop Hoffman, and CaryElwes turns up to reprise his role from the very first Saw movie. There are no surprises here, but I must say that I liked the unexpectedending. The 3D wasn't bad, but was far from essential.

Game Over!
Since 2004, the Saw franchise has been a reliable source of thrills(and bucks) every Halloween, despite critical indifference and the factthat the writers had to make the whole deal more complicated with eachnew installment after killing off the series' master villain, Jigsaw(Tobin Bell), at the end of Saw III. Sooner or later, the story had tocome to an end, and the "disappointing" box office returns of Saw VIbecame a perfect excuse to wrap everything up in the seventh chapter, with the added bonus of 3D.Picking up from the climax of the previous movie, Saw 3D is the finalround of the battle between Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) and JillTuck (Betsy Russell) over Jigsaw's legacy. With the psychotic Hoffmanwilling to do anything to get away with his crimes, John Kramer'sex-wife has no choice but to go to the police, upping the stakes whenshe asks for protection. Meanwhile, someone still has to suffer in thelatest game, and this time the designated victim is Bobby Dagen (SeanPatrick Flanery), a celebrity thanks to his book about how he surviveda previous Jigsaw trap, which has angered other survivors like one Dr.Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes)...Being the last film in the series, Saw 3D aims for the jackpot in termsof shocks, finally giving us the money shot promised back in the firstinstallment. Save for that moment, however, the gore, especially withthe added dimension (yes, that means guts flying out of the screen),appears to be played for laughs, particularly in the customary teasersequence which, minus the return of Gordon, looks like a parody of whathas come before. The same goes for the game scenario: what felt freshin 2004 has now become trite and predictable, a mere excuse forgratuitous blood-letting.Still, the movie has its good moments: however briefly he is on screen,Bell remains a creepy presence, brilliantly backed up by Mandylor andRussell, and Elwes' return to the franchise is as much fun as one couldexpect. Plus, the ending, complete with "Game over" nastiness andCharlie Clouser's iconic theme music, is a proper closure for theseries, making good of the promise that Jigsaw won't make any moreappearances on the big screen. And, although it's less sharp than SawVI's look at health care, the film's stab at celebrity TV and itsconsequences makes for decent social satire. In short, Saw 3D is every bit as flawed as the other odd-numberedepisodes, but has enough meat on its bones to make Jigsaw's finalhurrah worth at least one look. Besides, it's the last one: that's gotto count for something, right?
