Adventures of Bird Blu!
It's story of how love compels to break comfort zone and discover ournew self. Visually stunning Rio is brilliant stroke of writers to addmagic to adventures and love tale of endangered bird "Blu". Storywouldn't have been same with Samba, carnival, beaches, mountain views,Tram buses if it was not Rio.The whole story revolves around Tamed Blu and wild Jewel. JesseEisenber and Anne Hathaway did their best voice acting. Apart from Bluand Jewel there are plenty of characters which build story effectivelyand added plenty of rib tickling moments.Even though story is simple and very much predictable with obviousending, still story survives to tell a tale of love despitedifferences. Brilliant animation in 3d will take you on Journey ofadventure and fun! A must watch for its animation!

Too timid to be either inspired or outrageously inept, Rio is merely a bird of a familiar feather.

Excellent Movie
This review is from: Rio (DVD) This is an excellent movie to watch with family and friends. Hilariously funny and great music too. A great buy.

It's only real downfall is its lack of ambition to be more than decent. Saldanha has also been unerringly safe in most of his story telling choices, with little unexpected character development and quite a bit of overly tidy moralizing.

Great movie but BluRay problems hinder enjoyment
This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Minus 1 star for BluRay playback problems! Thanks Sony. A wonderful movie that we enjoyed in the theaters and a somehow you have found a way to spoil the enjoyment at home (or at least take the luster off the shine). The DVD playback is great if you don't need the HD version, but Sony's own BluRay format playing on a new and SW updated Sony PS3 Slim (the ideal combination right?) has playback problems! I've read other players have playback problems too, so check the Internet if you haven't checked your system first to see.On the PS3 it hangs and stutters at random times on the video playback. Audio is always fine and uninterrupted. A query on Google shows me that many others are having the same problem. Luckily there seems to be some solutions. If you have this issue, you need to delete the Rio data (Under Video>BD Data Utility menu on PS3) *and* disable the internet for playback, very convenient (not!). I hope Sony will talk to itself (Sony Studios and Sony's PS3 division) and figure out why their own stuff is broken. This doesn't seem limited to a certain batch of discs, the bluray .com forum seems to believe it's player specific, so some folks will enjoy the movie in HD without having to bother, most likely if you're not using a Sony player. This review reflects the problems I've experienced on 8/14 as we watched it together as a family on BluRay. This is for the 3 pack (BluRay,DVD and Digital copy). Save your money and get this on DVD or wait for it streaming.

Really sambastic and beautiful
I watched this on hot summer day and it felt just perfect. Colors andrenderings are beautiful and real treat for eye.Story and screenplay are solid. Voice acting is superb. Music choice ismore than well made. I must say I am glad to see really engaging moviefrom Blue Sky studios they failed to made since Ice Age 1. It reallylift your spirit up. All characters are lovable and I recommend it forgroup watching as it is lot of fun. Each scene was masterly lighted andcolored and great atmosphere was achieved for each scene. Have funwatching it. I just can not write anything else to avoid spoilers sojust to fill 10 lines minimum :)

Great Movie
My six year old daughter LOVES this movie. I have to admit there are scenes that still make me laugh even though I have seen them at 50 times. It is a movie the whole family can enjoy.

Blinded by the lovely colors but not brain dead to disregard plot-boilers
Rio is set in a carnival-like atmosphere, orchestrated by vivacious,Broadway-themed routines and sizzling, animally-carnal and sizzlingdance sequences. Rio also provides an oeuvre of eccentric characters, which like various ingredients of a taste test titillate the eyes. Theyalso manage to get along a few laughter with all their idiosyncrasies;for example, the drooling dog whose slimy slobber inadvertently comesin hand. Also the colors so brightly razzle-dazzle the screen, alongwith the synchrony of the dances transported me straight to thevisually-arresting, larger-than-life Rio de Janeiro parade. But did themovie, the essence, the fabric stay with me ling after the end credits?Sadly not.Blu, a precocious, protected young Macaw has been living since hisbabyhood with Linda, a nerdy, caring librarian and has many tricksunder his sleeve, none of them involving flying (since he can't). Theirfairytale life is punctuated by Tulia, a devoted ornithologist whoafter a quick deliberation, takes them to Rio De Janeiro to get thelast male of the species (Blu, of course) to be mated with Jewel, afiery but beautiful and independent female whose principles are islandsapart from Blu's. Blu is a timorous, coy but adorable bird who enjoyshuman companionship while Jewel, akin other wild birds, prefers thedangerous yet sweeping jungles. Both embark on quite an epic, unpredictable journey with a multitude of characters to fit the piecestogether.Blu is perhaps the most drawn out adventure in recent years ofanimation. Unlike Disney, the movie has a no holds barred approach inits story making, somewhat like Casablanca. I didn't like Casablancamuch, though. I thought it to be somewhat of a pastiche. Rio is ahodgepodge of collage, impromptu ideas that sometimes hit, and atothers miss the mark. I'm currently getting the sixth season of TopChef in India where a contestant named Robin too experiments the sameway. A splash of colors incorporating into one grand picture, yeah, like Sidney Pollack. But Carlos Saldana is not Sydney Pollack; he's apassionate film-maker who makes entertaining movies. And Rio is quite ablast indeed. But a "dream project" as ascribed by him- not.Rio has some nebulousness and inconsistencies in the actual vision thatthe director must've had at first. Throughout the film, characters flyin and out but not all succeed. Linda is gratingly voiced by Linda Mannwho along with Radrigo Santoro acts cumbersome almost throughout thecourse of the movie. Lesley gets too synthetic and cliché in herdelivery, while the scenes with Tulio are platitudinous. Rio isquirkily voiced by Jesse Eisenberg, who comes off smoothly in most ofhis scenes, even with those which lack finesse. Although sometimes thetone may come as calculative, analogous to his SN character and I feltnot completely in love with Blu, but he surely enlightens the banalitywith his volubly theatrical tone. Anne supplies baritone and luminosityto her relentlessly brave Jewel, which complements Blu's nature, s someof the film's most fulfilling moments come when Jewel tries to make Blufly while Blu helps her walk. The subordinate entities add luster to the veneer, some in imposingcolors, while others Grey and barren. The most promising are thebottle-cap donning canary and the chest-thumping Cardinal, done byJamie Foxx and Will.i.am chirpily. Ironically, the prime song sung bythe singers themselves is auto-tuned and vapid. Also, the screenplayforces them to recite cheesy catchphrases (i.e. "its birds versusmonkeys!"). Rafael, the toucan and his hissy but affectionate housewifeand their 17 brood do provide some laughs, but I hate when Rafael'sactor is asked to iterate inane lines "Sorry, Eva. Can't come home fordinner tonight". Such dialogs really lack impact in movies. Nigel, asthe tyrannous has-been performer cockatoo is cartoonish and hilarious(the "Cage tyrant" song had wonderful charm). The monkeys are addedimpish fun. Luiz as the harmless bulldog is perhaps the most engagingcharacter, wittily written. The irresoluteness of the film really takes it to a pandering extentwhere gags are just randomly thrown in to arch out a smile in the facesof young unwitty kids. This is where Disney/Pixar scores one over themas they have sure shot money-making plots but with a touch of heart andmaturity. Rio has the heart, lacks the ripeness. And I find it hard tocriticize the movie as some moments, including the color-maniacalbeginning, are magical. The bumpiness could be smoothened a bit just toadd the "Wow!" factor so prevalent in Disney movies (e.g. Ratatouille'sawe-inspiring ending). In terms of colors and animation, it's aspectacle. But, as a movie, it is a bit trite and incoherent. Suresummer extravaganza!

The Best Movie of the Year!
This movie is already on top of my all-time favorite list foranimations. It is colorful, very funny, and did I mention about thelocal Carioca (which means from Rio) scenery, it is gorgeous! TheCarnaval scenes were so real, I felt I was part of the party. The musicwas beautiful and energetic. It demonstrated in several ways how richand fun Brazilian music is. The story is simple, maybe evenpredictable, but the characters are well developed and again, extremelyfun to watch. So if you want to have a wonderful time at the movies, especially with your kids and family, this movie is a "must go"! Ajewel not to be missed! The 3D version with digital sound is the clearbest choice. Have fun in Rio!

Visuallly and Musically awesome
Rio provide me with great entertainment. The animation and visual colors blew me awayalong with the pulse of the musical score.Since the 60's I've always enjoyed the music of Sergio Mendes, which brought me backto that era. It's a must see for all family members. The 3D was breath taking.

Fanaticalaboutfilms Review Rio
Rio is an animation from the same people that brought us Ice Age and soit has a fair amount to live up to. It follows the tale of a bluemacaw, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) who is bird-napped as a chick and smuggledinto the USA to be sold. During the move though, he falls from the backof the truck and is found by Linda (Leslie Mann) who takes him in andlooks after him.The years pass by until Tulio (Rodrigo Santoro), a extremely birdobsessed ornithologist pays them a visit and offers them a chance tocome to Brazil as Blu is the last male of his species and the lastfemale, Jewel (Anne Hathaway), resides in Rio. Blu (who cannot fly) haslived a sheltered, comfortable life with Linda and is all the morehappy for it whereas Jewel is the stark contrast and longs to be freefrom the cage that restricts her as she has tasted freedom before. Sowhen the two meet, the fun starts to happen.First off, Blue is one happy bird with the animation and hischaracteristics reflecting that. You immediately like him and thisfeeling doesn't fade with time. In fact each character has their uniquequirks which enables the comedy to flow seamlessly. I was never gulpingfor air but the jokes are well written and non-stop with the moviecertainly having its moments.Rio, the movie, brings alive the carnival nature and flamboyant moodthat one normally associates with Rio, the city, by including a coupleof musical numbers into the story. Unfortunately they are not up to thestandard of Disney- they are not very catchy or memorable. It's morepop music and rap with Will.I.Am lending his talents to the vocals thanthe traditional song associated with animations. The background musichowever certainly get across the energy and vibrancy of Rio with plentyof samba flooding your ears from the off.The visuals of Rio are impressive (though not quite as good as Rango)and during the flying scenes in particular the city and itssurroundings are well captured with many of the iconic landmarks easyto spot. It probably helped that the director Carlos Saldanha was bornand raised in the city and so was able capture the true feeling of theplace that other directors would not have been able to.Did this live up to Ice Age then? Very nearly and I wouldn't mindwatching it again to see how it handles a second viewing. For further reviews feel free to check out:http://www.fanaticalaboutfilms.com

Fun for the whole family very cute movie
This movie is fun for the whole family, and very cute. It's reallyawesome to see the two blue macaws' relationship grow throughout themovie. The animation is top notch, and my kids really enjoyed watchingthe movie. Although there are adult jokes scattered about the movie, the kids will not get any of them. This movie is crying for a sequel, and I genuinely believe that a sequel should be written for this movie.Personal rating: 9.5/10 MUST WATCHVideo: Top notch, vivid color animationMusic is very fitting, and the voices for Blu and Jewel were perfectlydone.

Another winner from Blue Sky Studios, creators of the Ice Age series, Rio is the biggest and brightest animated triumph since Toy Story 3.
