not the same resident evil that started it all
The creatures are not even close to being dead zombies, as they now have tentacles coming out of their mouths. Also the dog's heads split in half to reveal teeth going down to the stomach... and the main bad charactor in the movie has hermit crab claws coming from his mouth. I always thought the t-virus brought the dead back to life(zombies). At least DOOM had alien dna based zombies that didnt seem to farfetched. I believe that this movie falls more along the lines of Half-Life than resident evil... Just my opinion folks.

I Bet the Video Game Is (a) Cheaper and (b) More Fun
Resident Evil [4]: Afterlife (1:37, R, 3-D) Â Science Fiction, 3rdstring, sequel, OSIT feminists and cynicsIt's a world of the near future, 4 years after a virus developed by theUmbrella Corporation turned almost all of humanity into zombies.Umbrella's bigwigs survive in high-tech underground bunkers, butthey're not safe from the vengeful wrath of Alice (Milla Jovovich), aformer experimental subject of theirs who has developed something akinto superpowers because they injected her with something that sends herT-cells into overdrive. As this 4th installment of the franchise opens, multiple clones ofAlice take out several platoons of Umbrella security goons (faceless inbody armor and helmets) in a highly fortified lair under Tokyo, thenshe engages in some snarly repartee with Umbrella's head honcho beforehe blows the whole place up, taking out all of the clones in theprocess. Shortly thereafter, Alice gets hit with an injection thatneutralizes her superhuman strength and speed. The same guy who didthis could easily have used the opportunity to stick a knife instead ofa needle into her throat, but that would have (a) made sense and (b)ended the movie after only about 20 minutes. From there it's north to Alaska, where Alice collects Claire Redfield(Ali Larter), a fellow rebel from the previous movie, now living like awild animal due to amnesia. The 2 of them fly south to Los Angeles, following the trail of the Arcadia, a supposed haven for plaguesurvivors that never seems to stay put.In LA, they get to battle more zombies, more Umbrella goons, aresentful opportunistic survivor or 2, and some gargantuan dude wearinga burlap bag over his head and wielding the world's largest meattenderizer. Most of this action occurs in an abandoned maximum-security prison with an inexplicably large number of torches burning atall times in every room. Claire reunites with her brother Chris(Wentworth Miller), and they have a swell time wreaking havoc andcarnage upon all comers. Not much dialog here, nor much acting, but lots of stuff gets Blowed UpReal Good. Written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, so there'spretty much no one else to blame.

wow
I just think it's strange that there have been 1 or 2 decent films inthis series. Extinction was a decent movie. How do they keep gettingMila to come back and do these terrible ones. I mean that's barely Bquality. I only got 1/3rd of the way through this junk it's sopainful.. i mean PAINFUL. To even attempt to watch this mindbogglinglyterrible "film" making i need pot, alcohol and many pills. But then I'dbe dead before the movie ended. So I guess my question is, how does amovie this terrible get anywhere near the rating it has? I mean, Ican't trust the ratings on this website anymore. I've seen quality, good movies get worse ratings than this thing. It's disturbing I tellyou. What is wrong with people? If i had the option i would rate it -10out of 100. IMDb should be a good site to reference title choices butit's not... I'm afraid.

Resident Evil in name only
Needless to say, one of the worst movies I've seen (so far). When yousee that the director is also the one who wrote the script you knowit's gonna be really bad. The biggest disappointment is the plot (orthe lack of it). Wikipedia calls it "film adaptation based loosely onCapcom's survival horror video game series Resident Evil". Looselytranslated it means "don't worry if you didn't play any of the games, you won't know the difference. Sucker." Here are some of the mostglaring plot holes: Wesker injected Alice with some drug thatsupposedly took away all of her powers, yet she survived the planecrash a few seconds later without a scratch and, after a few months, jumped off a building and killed zombies like nothing ever happened.Guess the drug works pretty slow... The Executioner Majini (big guywith equally big axe), originally from Africa, suddenly appears at theprison in Los Angeles? C'mon, that is just retarded. There's alsozombies digging thorough the floor - were they bitten by radioactivegophers? The viral outbreak and a few characters is all this trainwreck has in common with the name Resident Evil. A bunch of survivorshuddled together in a building besieged by zombies? I'd take "Dawn ofthe Dead" any day of the week over this travesty. Most acting wasmediocre at best. Shawn Roberts tried and failed, simply by not beingold enough, I expect better performance in the future. On a side note:They probably blew most of the CGI budget on Wesker's glowing eyes. What kind of a douche wears sunglasses inside? I guess that makesWentworth Miller best actor. Well, he had the home turf advantage, playing Michael Scofield in Prison Break :-) We now come to the worstelement ( element = :-), you'll get it), by which I mean MillaJovovich. Would she have gotten the role if she wasn't the director'smain squeeze? I doubt it very much. But then again, Paul W.S. Andersonmust have seen her without any make-up and obviously thinks she's stillpresentable. That guy is a real trooper. The best thing she can do isbutt out and leave acting to more talented and younger women. She andsome other "actresses" out there should get it once and for all timestraight: no one wants to see a woman over thirty (a.k.a. soccer mom)wearing anything skin tight like spandex or leather!!!

All a fan of the video game could ask for
This was easily the best film of the entire series so far, in my humbleopinion. I am a fan of the video game which is why I was glad to seethem create a version of the film that is as close to the way thingsoccur in the game. The way Alice would go somewhere and suddenly spotsomeone and that person would begin to follow her around the game untiltheir services are needed or revealed and their skills displayed etc.etc. I especially loved all the additional characters and the plottwists and the way this film ended like just as the next installmentshould begin. I really have nothing bad to say, I have only given it9/10 instead of 10/10 because in some spots the editing seemed patchy, especially in the scenes before Alice went to look for Arcadia. Butother than that the film was as close to the video game and as visuallystunning thus far.

Good even without the 3D
I first saw this movie in the theaters on the day of release. I've been a fan of the movies ever since the first one because I've loved the Resident Evil games I've grown up with, and I love how this is the only movie series based off of a game that's actually good. The fourth part of the series is on par with the third movie which is good. I enjoyed these movies, and they're one of the few movies that I can actually watch a second, and even a third time.

A disappointment, not worth watching
The movie turned out to be complete disappointment. It just seems liketrying to cash the last drops by making sequels of popular series. Thebiggest loophole is the lack of clear plot. The movie is extremely slowin the beginning and is barely watchable. However it pics up some speedin later half. But it has the same old action scenes without anypurpose or any flow if storyline. Mila too fails to deliver aneffective performance. She seems to be in hurry to complete the movieand move to the next story. Also, her kick ass scenes are becomingboring and repetitive. People who has watched the previous parts wouldbe disappointed with action scenes. And the new audience would beconfused as to what is happening. Overall the movie does not evenrepresent typical zombie flick. And made me feel waste of my time.

How did this film ever get the budget
I've given this 2 out of 10 just for the money they spent on the carsand guns and look... the film and story sucked, u may say its cuz ilike the original games, i say its just a very bad film with referencesfrom the game. How bad is the story? i mean come on the 1st wasterrible i hoped for better in the 2nd and 3rd and here i am subjectingmy self to the 4th. my gf wanted to watch this just for that WentworthMiller guy, what a joke this film was. I guess they spent all the moneyon the actors (who where terrible) and special effects because theStory script and almost everything else sucked. If you have played thegame or enjoy a good story your going to be really disappointed, however if u like a load of nonces guns special effects with bad scriptstory but pretty looking characters this is it i guess. please tell meif im wrong but this film was dreadful. how on earth did they get themoney to fund this film~!?

Solid RE movie
Alright..so I'm not a die hard Resident Evil fan or anything and I came to watch this movie with an open mind. I have seen all of the previous films as well. Just to do a little refresher, the first movie directed by Anderson was not too shabby. It had the suspense that I was looking for in an RE movie and the background music (with the help of Manson) kept it eerie *which is a positive* The second movie, although true to the game *3/4 of the time* just didn't quite hold on to that suspense I was wanting in a Resident evil movie. To be honest, it felt more of an action movie rather than a horror flick which is a huge negative. The third installment which tried to hold on to the suspense from the first film was a good stuff. However the kills and direction kind of threw me off. I did like it over the second film; Resident Evil Apocalypse, but it just wasn't quite what I was looking forward to in the next installment. Going to see this fourth entry to the series, I did have my doubts. Having Anderson come back to direct RE:Afterlife, I was curious to see just what he had laid out for this chapter. Now..I'm not going to spoil anything, but having played RE5 before, boy did I see a lot of correlation between this movie and the game itself. I have to say, Anderson you did one hell of a good job with this one. Not only did he bring in new elements to this entry, the 3D effects were indeed ..might I say KICK ASS. I don't know if you're ever going to come across this review Paul, but congrats on a job well done. If you are to ever make another RE film to continue this series, I would like to see just what other elements you have to offer to the screen. Once again, a job well done and as for the audience, go give this film a shot and see how your take on it is like.

I am a true fan of resident evil but
What happened i was so disappointed the plot was horrible i likedextinction much more because it actually had a good plot andinteresting character reactions and not only that it brought back thetyrant. Also im confused why would umbrella keep experminting afterwhat already happened from what they did. Okay it was enjoyable and ilike the new characters but seriously this is bad. The other ones iliked a lot more. Not to mention that this copy,s resident evil 5. Iknew it that this was gonna happen there was no story what so ever.Okay if they are making another one and if they are gonna explain whyumbrella is doing something that doesn,t even make sense i will retractthis statement and delete this review until that comes this ain't goingnowhere. I only recommend this to people who like action no plot typemovies

Afterlife is Hell
Paul WS Anderson returns to his franchise baby with a new toy. Amazingstereoscopic 3D the likes of which was used in AVATAR. And like any kidwith a new toy, he goes overboard sacrificing all substance for allstyle. The silly excuse for a story begins immediately after ResidentEvil Extinction left off. If the movie was truly a video game, Alicewould be that idiotic hacker who got her hands on every single cheatcode. She got "GODMODE", "AIMBOT", "/KILLALL" and even a cheat for"Ally NPC Spawn". For the benefit of non=gamers, this just means thatAlice gots superpowers and gots a super-powered clone army too. Withinthe opening minutes, Alice and clones stage a daring incursion into theTokyo facility of Umbrella corporation, causing chaos and ultimatelyfacing down the T-virus powered chairman, Wesker. The writer, also PaulWS Anderson, must have known by now how quickly the movie would be oversince Alice could just pop the guy's head like she did in Resident evilApocalypse. So through some stupidly convenient plot device, Alice issuperhuman no more and all her clones are gone. Now on the run, sheproceeds to Alaska in the hopes of reaching the last safe haven whereher friends fled to, a place named "Arcadia".The mystery thickens when all she discovers is an empty landing fieldand a deranged Claire Redfield (Ali Karter) under the control of someweird biomechanical device. After saving Claire, the duo proceed to LosAngeles where they encounter another group of survivors holed up in aprison. With zombies all around and a new dangerous giant axe/hammerwielding threat heading their way, Alice, Claire and the survivors mustfind a way out ASAP. Their last hope may rest with a prisoner namedChris. It all sounds a lot better than it turned out. Story-wise, it is a verystandard action movie narrative with maybe only one good twist. Thoughthe resident evil films have always been light on story, this one ispossible the lightest. The characters are the main problem. Anyone whois not Alice is relegated to being a one-dimensional stock charactercommon in zombie apocalypse movies. You have a conniving a55-hole in abusiness suit, the damsel, the rough-n-tough soldier, the big strongAfrican American guy and a token Asian dude with no attempt made tomake the audience care whether they live or die. Claire Redfield takesover the role of amnesiac from Alice's initial appearance in the firstmovie, who slowly regains her memory and conveniently reveals the plot.None of them are given any development at all. Even the main characterof Alice manages to be both uninteresting and underdeveloped; gettingno emotional closure after four movies.Paul WS Anderson, the baby with the 3D, must have spent so much timemaking his wife look good on screen that he forgot not only to write agood story but to direct good action. He blatantly rips off The Matrixtrilogy, Dawn of the Dead, and possibly Ninja Assassin. And by"blatantly" it means lifting whole scenes to the point where it shouldusually be considered a copyright violation. Almost 90% of the combatscenes are in slow motion, easily reminding one of Uwe Boll's "House ofthe Dead", complete with painful over usage of 360 degree panning andother matrix bullet time effects. As a resident evil movie, Afterlifecommits the worse crime possible by having little Zombie killingaction. The very sci/fi-ish set up, the CGI cityscapes, lack of Zombiesand Milla Jovovich doing Gun Kata makes this feel more like"Ultraviolet 2" than a Resident Evil film. Perhaps the one redeeming factors is how the franchise is trying itsdamnedest to move back on track with the games. There are numerousreferences especially to Resident Evil 5 and Code Veronica; theExecutioner, Wesker's appearance, even that P30 bug thing just to namea few. Alice no longer dominates the screen as Game characters likeChris and Claire get their fair amount of time to shine. No doubt thefan-boys might be more pleased than usual about this. Oh yes, and thereis Avatar-style 3D which just shows how weak the movie would be withoutthis gimmick.Like a shambling zombie in the movie, Resident evil Afterlife now plodsthrough the underworld. A sad Frankenstein's-monster pastiche of pastaction films with an erratic pace and a lack of good action. It hasbecome Paul WS Anderson's vehicle to showcase his pretty little wifeand his latest gimmick 3D toy to the world. Among the Resident evilmovies, this one is has the least substance but the most style. Nodoubt the slick 3D action would please the millions of simple-mindedadrenaline junkies. It would find warm reception too perhaps from fanswho desire something closer to that of the games (compared to pastmovies), and maybe existing fans of the Resident evil movie franchisewho know what to expect. With the promise of a sequel, one wonders how much lower can thefranchise go now that its already all gone to hell. Well, At least itis a nice looking and entertaining Hell.

All the B-movie ridiculousness of the games, none of the fun.
Resident Evil: Afterlife makes a valiant attempt to blend elements ofthe previous films and the video games upon which the series is based, but the end result is a lurching, utterly brainless product that isunlikely to satisfy much of anyone. The plot, such as it is, follows Alice (Milla Jovovich) and hercontinuing attempts to reach other survivors of the zombie apocalypsewhile fighting off the evil Umbrella Corporation, which has not givenup on experimenting with the T-Virus despite its proved zombifying,world-destroying properties. Along the way she runs into old friendClaire Redfield (Ali Larter), a multiethnic  and therefore mostlydoomed  group of survivors (including Chris Redfield, played byWentworth Miller), and superpowered Umbrella Corp chairman AlbertWesker (Shawn Roberts, who at least appears to be having fun in hissupremely hammy role). At this point, I'm fairly sure that the minds behind the Resident Evilfilms have just given up. The film jumps erratically from slo-mo fightscene to slow-mo fight scene, seldom deigning to exposit or flesh outits characters; several seemingly important plot points are introducedand then never mentioned again. The film attempts to throw game fans abone with the inclusion of Wesker and the Redfield siblings, but noneof these characters are given any significant development or purposeother than to facilitate even more slo-mo fight scenes; viewersunfamiliar with the game series are likely to be confused about whythese characters are in the film at all. The only real praise I cangive this film is that it's occasionally entertainingly terrible (keepan eye out for digging, swimming zombies!) instead of justboring-terrible like Apocalypse and Extinction.Still: If you're a fan of action-horror films, check out Predators whenit comes out on DVD. If you're a fan of the games, wait for ResidentEvil 6. If you're a fan of kick-ass women in movies, rent Salt.Afterlife is a soulless, headache-inducing product without enoughbrains to satisfy the most desperate zombie.

When will they stop making this crapfest??
The plot is ridiculous; I know itâs a Zombie movie but come on!The CGI is horrible, it looks like a computer game it is so fake. The acting is BEYOND bad, let this thing die please! It is POINTLESS and predictable.Don't bother renting, wait a month for it to be on cable tv then turn the channel.

Good action movie
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife (DVD) Even though this is on cable several times a year I like the movie enough to have it in my collection. I'm waiting for another in the series.

Rent it for a dollar but dont buy this Matrix-wannabe
Yes, this has plenty of action and special effects. Yes, there are attractive women (though you know the most attractive new character is going to get bumped off quickly, and she does). Yes, you know the big weasel is going to outlive most 'good guys' until he receives his final justice. So, no big surprises, and not a lot of sense, either. We know nothing nor care anything for these 'video game' characters (unlike, say, movies like "Aliens" or "Road Warrior"). Instead of creating some difficulty and drama for our heroine, the movie decides that the now "human" Alice can still swing from tall buildings, shoot her way out of millions of zombies, and vanquish a 12-foot tall mutant Executioner. What's the point? The only good news for our future is that any females who survive a zombie apocalypse will apparently have a plentiful stock of eye liner, lip gloss, hair products and push-up bras.

The lease exciting of the series
I think it's run it's course...the plot was shallow and there's really no gutsy energy left to it. Time to die.

Another 3 year wait why? but in a good way
This film is the best instalment to the trilogy, i went in with majorhigh expectations for this films, it was that bad i was running awayfrom people who have already seen the film before they could evenbreath a single word to me, also staying away from the reviews on hereso i don't find anything out which was really frustrating. But in all fair play this film definitely delivered my taste to thisamazing storyline, the writer/director is doing a fantastic job onkeeping this films as close to the game as possible. Mean like residentevil 1 is based on 1 with Alice being involved which doesn't happen inthe game but o well scratch that shall we, number two has a mix withnumber 2 and 3, extinction i felt went in its own path showing adifferent aspect to these sorta films being based all in daylightshooting which you rarely see in zombie films. Now this instalment to the films has its own way on playing but hassticked to the new resident evil 5 (my favourite in the series)besidesbeing shot in south Africa. But keeping u with the new infected zombiesand also adding the person behind everything with umbrella.I felt they chucked in a lot of off different aspects to this part, with it being shot in a costophobic way and also being shot in day andnight. The action involved here as well was crystal nothing too overthe top besides a bit too much slow-mo but hey we can all deal withthat. More scarier and more jump scenes as well which i can come toterms no other resident evil has every chucked so many into.all in all i loved this chapter to this series.the only downside to me was the ending for one being as i was waitingthrough out the whole film see the return off Jill valentine and when idid i was like why why why. knowing i love the films i think it couldoff ended on this one because the director better do the 5 instalmentand he has to really pull all the stops out to over do this one. Alsothe last thing is i felt it was a bit too long (longert then the lastthree i felt) but thats my only complaint.

Resident Evil AfterLife Is Okay But Not The Greatest
Resident Evil Afrerlife is okay but not the greatest that has flawswhich I'll get into later from writer/director Paul Anderson. It's thefourth film in the Resident Evil series.Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Alice the unstoppable killingmachine heroine and she's perfect as the character who can still kicksome serious ass while looking beautiful doing it. I just wish they hadgiven her more to do -acting wise- than just killing countless undeadzombies and various monsters (includine one with a giant axe) mostlikely created by the Umbrella Corporation. Ali Larter also returns as Claire Redfield from the third film whojoins Alice once again in her quest to find survivors. Larter does whather role requires and she gets a decent action scene near the end.Wentworth Miller plays Claire's brother Chris who unfortunately doesn'treally serve any real purpose except as a nod to die Resident Evil gamefans. Miller's performance isn't that bad it's just his character isn'treally developed or his relationship with Claire.Shawn Roberts seemed to be doing his best Agent Smith from the Matriximpression as the villain Albert Wesker unless thats how his characteracts in the games. He gets two scenes the beginning and the end so forsomebody who's supposed to be the main villain he's not in that much atall. His fight at the end between Claire and Chris felt anti-climatic.Not to mention it doesn't last very long either. A third act that hadthe same problem some other films (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, andTransformers 2 to name a few) did as well when the main bad guy iseasily defeated within a few minutes. The rest of the cast including Kim Coates, Boris Kodjoe, and a briefcameo by Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine are okay but none of themare given any development, substance, or depth. The action sequences are okay but nothing we haven't seen before andthere's no tension or suspense. The fact that there's no humor didn'thelp either. The zombies are all right despite not getting half as muchscreen time as they did in the previous three films. The monster withthe huge Axe was decent despite just showing up with no explanationsomething a lot of the creatures do.And what was the purpose of taking away Alice's powers early on if itdoesn't have any effect at all besides turning her human again? Becausea minute later she somehow survives a plane crash in the mountains andapparently walks away without a scratch. This just didn't make a wholelot of sense like many other things. I'm willing to suspend mydisbelief when it comes to movies but only to a point. The ending was predictable and a cameo by a certain character duringthe credits seemed a little pointless expect to set up for anothersequel. At 97 minutes Resident Evil Afterlife wasn't that bad it justsuffers from the sequel curse by cramming too much into one movie. Thefilm seemed to be made purely for the action which may please some butI like to have a compelling story with well developed character, drama, emotion, suspense, and humor to go along with the spectacle.

Another stupid Alice story
This was just another stupid Alice story a character that has nothing to do with the Resident Evil games with exception of Wesker, Resident Evil needs a reboot this time with a good director that will stay true to the game series and use characters from it.
