Storyline

Plot Summary:

Rebel Without a Cause meets Ordinary People in postmillennial Manhattan, resulting in Hollywoodland director Allen Coulters Remember Me. Twilights tousle-haired Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a chain-smoking New York University student with a substantial chip on his shoulder. Drifting through life devoid of ambition, he lost his older brother to suicide, his parents are divorced, and his father, Charles (Pierce Brosnan), spends more time in the boardroom than with his kids (Lena Olin plays Tylers mother). Tyler takes refuge in his friendships with wisecracking roommate Aidan (Tate Ellington) and artistic younger sister Caroline (Ruby Jerins). One night, he and Aidan enter a scuffle outside a club, and Sergeant Craig (Chris Cooper) takes him in for mouthing off, even though he was trying to break things up. When Aidan discovers that they go to school with Craigs daughter, Ally (Losts Emilie de Ravin), he dares his pal to date and dump the Queens coed to get back at Craig. Game for anything, Tyler gives it a try, and Ally takes the bait, but he puts all thoughts of revenge aside when he finds himself falling in love. Ten years before, Ally lost her mother (Martha Plimpton in an unbilled cameo), and she understands him better than most anyone else, but the timing is off, and the events of 911 will change the lives of both families forever. The descent toward melodrama at the end threatens to derail Coulters delicate project, but he sets things right in time to make Remember Me an affecting experience.

Not just a pretty face

Wow Robert Pattinson can act. This is no Twilight. This is serious emotion and he nailed it. He made us care about his character. Pierce Brosnan was also great as the unfeeling bastard Dad. I hope Robert Pattinson does more meaningful movies like this one because he is the real deal.

bittersweet

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET IT WILL RUIN IT !I have read twilight and seen the movies. Personally the movies don'tdo the book justice. I went into remember me with an open mindexpecting a chick flick blah blah blah. I was very wrong this movie hasa such a strong emotional connection with the audience. The relationship between Tyler and his sister brought tears to my eyesabout how much he cared for her. Robert's character was very deep andhe was really acting where in twilight its just not realistic, hisacting performance was very good i was shocked how good. Emilie wasalso very good her and rob and great chemistry.But.... i can see where the critics did not like the movie.. the wholebet thing and revenge but it was needed to start a relationship the ending was bittersweet 9/11 is a very sensitive subject and itaffected everyone. I remember waking from my mom with the TV was on andshe was crying i live in Hawaii so it was like 4 in the morning.Everyone has their own story connected to 9/11 and when the teacherwrote the date on the board i began to cry then the shot of rob fromthe building put everything together i was speechless. I am so happythat they did not show how the plane crashed into the building it madeeverything so much better. You have to go into this movie blind you will be shocked. i am still speechless and i am still crying and its been a couplehours. There are only certain movies that really hit you and this onedid.

phenomenal Movie, well written and perfectly acted

I went into this movie just happy to see Rob and the Eclipse trailerand left with a huge appreciation for what a truly good actor he is. Iwas so impressed with all of the actors in this movie actually. Thestoryline was at first predictable but by the end of the movie your jawis on the floor and a thousand pin pricks of emotion are runningthrough you. It literally took my breath away... I would recommend thismovie to everyone, with my first recommendation being: Don't readanything about it, just go (and bring tissues!) Even my 11 year olddaughter got it and was thoroughly impressed. It really is a must see.Superb job Summit and Rob!!

Remember Me is Memorable...art in film

So I was in a theatre today with 19 women of varied ages and 1 man (who wins the good boyfriend/husband award). May I say all 20 of us walked out teary eyed and awe struck. The script/story was completely amazing! To the critic who actually said the ending was a cop-out...are you bleeping nuts??? The ending was art in film at its best! It was poignant and it felt real and raw.Robert Pattinson has proved in this movie that he is indeed going to be a "Harrison Ford" and not a "Mark Hamill" in Hollywood. I think we will be seeing alot more to come from him, and I am invested in following his journey as I suspect he is not likely to fall victim to work just to please the suits and grease the "Machine's" money making wheels. He cares about the roles he picks, and that says a lot about his character as an actor and as a person. This is an actor I can be proud to be a fan of.Ruby Jerins...Rob was not joking when he said she's the next Meryl Streep, Holy cow! She's only how old? I was literally mesmerized by her performance! I see her following in Dakota Fanning's foot steps and I look forward to seeing her in future projects.Emilie De Ravin...you had me at hello. There was no mistake this script was changed to accommodate you. As much as Twilight fans will hate to admit it, there was definite on screen chemistry there. Tate Ellington, bravo for your gritty comic relief. You should celebrate your success with “just one drink”.Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, our Hollywood veterans, did not disappoint and delivered flawless performances that proved to be the mortar to the building blocks of the story. Each actor in this film interacted so well together, I can’t say enough about how well it was cast.I will be shocked if it is not nominated for an Oscar. But I have been, sadly, shocked many times before that movies have not been nominated. I hope this time they prove me wrong!

Remember Me

Went to see it with my daughter, I know most of the actors, figured itwould be good. The story line was good but slow in some places, but youknew it was building to something. you hoped it would end well, knowingthese peoples lives were tragic from the beginning. The ending was afull surprise and stayed with me a couple of days.....One thing, Why would you put two of the main actors, who both have thickEnglish/Irish accents, in a movie that took place in Brooklyn? PierceBrosnan sounded ridiculous...... at least Robert Pattinson pulled itoff a little better. It was a good rainy afternoon movie to see, but be prepared to besurprised at the ending.

Definitely, surprising.....

This review is from: Remember Me (DVD) I'm so glad I resisted the temptation of reading any spoilers; I did not see the ending coming and actually couldn't believe it. Darn, darn, darn, how many times can we say it, recognizing what's important in life. Loved this movie and I'm glad RP choose to do it.

a truly touching story

The film is not without flaws - there are moments that do not comenaturally and feel somehow forced, like the reason for the charactersencounter or the burst of Ally's father, but the characters' (and Iinclude all of them) fight and turmoil with lost, grief and most of allthemselves is stirring for the viewer and familiar for most of us whohave lost loved ones. The soundtrack is well chosen and kind ofanticipates the ending, which is unpredictable though. The acting isvery well done, the leading actors/actresses being able to transmitthere characters' feelings and emotions through all meanings possible. All in all, this is an emotional story which will stay with me andwhich I recommend.

Loved it!

I fell in love with Robert Pattinson in this movie. He played such a different character than the one portrayed on Twilight. He has an excellent talent. I was interested the whole time during the movie. I was amazed by the story line. I was hoping he was going to be able to stand up to his Edward character, and just blew me away. Once this movie drops in price a bit, I will be adding this to my collection. I watched this movie twice within a week. :-)

Remember Me is a wonderful movie

I went to see this movie on the night it opened, because Robert Pattinson was in it. I had not read any reviews and had absolutely no idea how it would end. Throughout the movie, I sat there thinking, how does it end...who dies, who leaves. I was totally shocked, when in the classroom scene, the teacher stepped away from the blackboard and the date was shown. I was devastated....I loved the movie and it is wonderful so see that some people have not forgotten that tragic day in America's history. I, for one, will never forget. I only hate that the movie had very limited showings in limited areas. It should have done better.

Remember this movie

I really did like this movie, even though I have to confess that I wentdue to it being A) a romance and b) having R-Patz in it.So I was prepared to like it and really wanted to like it.I liked the acting, I liked the characters. The father-daughterrelationship directly oppositional to the Father-Son relationship (oneis over-protective, the other not protective enough) was interesting inits contrast. The "set up" was a little (no a lot) clichéd but thatdidn't bother me as much as the ending, which felt like a giant jolt -much like the drop on a roller-coaster ride.Peirce Brosnan was pretty OK and Chris Cooper - no matter what role hesgiven, always does his best. All in all a pretty solid film.

This movie makes you FEEL, it is a piece of art and you feel its heart

I saw this movie 5 times. I love Allan Coulter ("Hollywoodland") , Rob Pattinson (who I feel is well on his way to an A list actor), and knew of the script and its genesis. The editor was nominated for an Oscar for "The Sixth Sense." I had high expectatons. They were exceeded when I saw this movie. Movies are supposed to make you feel something. This movie was amazing, I felt so so much. People who see it can't stop talking about it. Strangers would connect in the lobby after the movie, wanting to talk about it, share it with some other human! It truly makes people want to connect with each other, and this is the main theme of the movie. We DO, and we matter to each other.Every time I saw the movie (3 times in NY, NY city is a big character in the movie), the audience loved it. The ending is profound, but at the same time, just a part of a life story, like what happens is a part of life sometimes. It is visually dense, emotionally- packed, you care for these characters. The acting is superb throughout, there isn't a false not anywhere. You come to care about the characters. Robert Pattinson is one incredibly talented performer. He is going to be a big star in Hollywood. I feel I came as close to feeling like I was a 23 year guy with his struggles as 50 year old woman will ever feel! Pattinson is so good at making you feel what he's feeling. I mean, how does an actor DO that? Ruby, who plays his sister is phenomenal. We'll see a lot of her. This movie isn't a chick flick. This movie is a character study of a 23 year old man with real struggles, but also real joy in his life. There are laughs in this movie, there's charm and warmth. It's also a family drama. It is a real gem. Please see this movie. It is really good to own, because every time you watch it you notice some other detail, some way a motif or theme, or visual element repeats in the movie. It's entitled "Remember Me." I guarantee you, you will NEVER forget this movie. It is that special. Really.

walked out after an hour

CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!! I couldn't believe it. How could this be the same movie everyone elsehere raved about? Summery of what I saw: two people had deaths in their lives. Fastforward to 21 years of age where both are attending the same college. One gets into a fight because he feels like it, and the officer calledto the seen arrests him and his pal.His pal wants to get even with the arresting officer by having him datethe officers daughter and then dumping her. He does...I walked out, I couldn't take it anymore.I stayed up unto the point where his friend gets her drunk, she wakesup the next morn and runs home just to be hit by her father, and thenruns back to him.And actually, it's a lot more interesting writing this, then the movieever was.Never again. Next time I'll fast forward to the last few reviews beforeever watching another film.

Not bad..but not great

Based on the trailer, I went in dreading the fact that I may not enjoyhis movie. And I was right. There was nothing special about the movie. There were a lot of awkward silences and hardly any chemistry betweenthe little girl (Ruby Jerins) and Tyler. Before you all get mad, Ithought their relationship was adorable, especially when Tyler was soprotective of Caroline, but when I saw them together, I thoughtsomething was missing between them. But that minor detail is hardly abad point about this movie. The acting was just OK. Not superb. Rob did GREAT at some points andothers, not so much. The scene that did give me goosebumps was when hewas yelling to his on-screen Dad. That was incredibly acted. I was SOPROUD of him at the moment. Other times, he would sound like he wasmumbling... I think his transition from a British accent to an Americanone really compromises his acting. Not just playing Tyler but also asEdward. Especially as Edward. but I will not go there right now.The ending of the movie was ... the best and worst part. I think. Itwas so REAL. I wish they'd actually shown the events cuz that wouldhave made such a huge impact. But the way they did was still intense. And so heart-breaking. I did cry...but then I cry at anything remotelysad. It was pretty obvious it was gonna happen cuz death was theunderlying theme from the very beginning of the movie. And then showingwhat and where everyone was right before it happened...*shudder*.However, it was also totally useless. There were already two deaths inthe movie, a third was uncalled for.Pierce, Emilie and Tate Ellington all acted brilliantly. Tate - for anewcomer was especially believable as Aidan. Ruby (as Caroline) wasfreaking CUTE. All in all, the acting was very believable but thescript at some points was weak. I wouldn't go see it again but I'lldefinitely buy it when it comes to DVD. And I also think watching it asecond time might make me like it a little more.Kudos to Rob because he managed to do a lot better than a lot of people(including myself) gave him credit for. The moral of the movie was not just love and the importance of family, but also the fact that Life goes on. No matter what, life always goeson.

Amazing

(Last paragraph has mild spoilers) Rarely has a movie ever left me that speechless or tied with emotion.Remember me does exactly what a good movie should do. Puts you througha journey with the characters, attache's you to them and then throws inreal-life situations.I saw this movie in the theater the first time it came out, and I lovedit. However, I just bought the movie today and watched it for thesecond time. I have to say, I liked it even better even though I knewthe ending. This movie makes you believe in the characters and not onlythat, the elements are true. The acting was fantastic and the way itwas shot was perfect. The characters dynamics are awesome too! As for the twist ending everyone is talking about: If your someone whowants to see the movie and try to guess the ending, pay closeattention, clues are given throughout the whole movie, sometimes rightin your face. The ending is done tastefully and reminds us all in abeautiful way about life and to never take it for granted.

Touching Story That Tries to Throw You Off Its Scent

Remember Me has many meanings. The director or screenwriter tries very hard to throw you off the scent of the surprise ending to this emotionally charged drama. The story it tells unfolds in a fashion you wonder if its a love story or if its an indie film about self introspection. The underlying theme is dealing with loss and making the most of your time here. The film re-affirms this notion by quoting Ghandi several times about people being insignificant in our actions but we must nonetheless just do it.The pace can be slow at times and definitely full of emotions. The acting by the cast is believable and did a good job having us relate. Most memorable emotion for me would be the bond between brother and sister, Tyler (Robert Pattinson) and Caroline.Watch this movie, you'll be touched by the ending and enjoy the story.

Touching

Well scripted. Thoughtful exploration on themes of grief andappreciation of life expressed through action more then exposition. Itseffects lingered with me long after I left the theater. Pattinson'sperformance well conveyed the frustrated, pent-up intensity appropriateto the age, stage of development, and situation of his character.Emilie de Ravin's restrained portrayal of a wounded young woman whostruggles to define her identity while still living under the roof of acontrolling overprotective father who expresses his love with his ironwill, sets the stage for a complex but enduring romantic bond. CaitlynRund's clean portrayal of the artistic and smart but vulnerable elevenyear old sister serves as both a mirror-of-truth for Pattinson'syouthful uncompromising if myopic ways, and as a safe and central focusfor everyone's love and protection. Overall I found Remember Me to be afine example of how the art of film can really serve its audience at aheart level.

Leaves You Speechless!

In this film you will see Rob Pattinson@ his best (even if you dig the Twilight Saga). The film has an easy-to-follow, multi-themed plot, but it will leave you speechless...with chills.A MUST SEE!

20 April 2012

WOW

Unlike some reviewers, I was not offended by the ending. I will also admit that I had read the reviews and was prepared for the ending. I think when you focus on the ending you miss the point of the movie. If you can get passed the slow and awkward start. It is a very good movie with great acting all around. Robert Pattinson showed again the depth of his acting (and I'm not referring to Twilight). This movie will make you appreciate the moments spent with love ones. I wish I had supported this movie while it was in the movie theatre.

17 April 2012

I didnt have any expectations...

... and I was pleasantly surprised. I read some reviews of this movie, which didn't give away the ending (thankfully). I was touched by a look into the genuine pain and process that people can go through to learn and heal. The movie was a brilliant way of showing that everyone can make an impact on others' lives and that the impact, no matter how brief can help them move forward. While Robert Pattinson was instrumental in having this movie made, it is not a movie about him. I really enjoyed it.

Truly a must-see!

I've never written a review about a movie, but I really have to writeone about Remember me. Why? Because it is such a beautiful movie! Whenthe movie ended I just sat on my couch for a couple of minutes to letit all sink in. To me, this movie is a true masterpiece. You can feelall the emotions in this movie. Every character plays an importantpart. Every character takes you by the hand and let you feel what theyare going through. If you like a movie where it is really about thestory itself, and not e.g. special effects, this is it. So why not 10out of 10? Because I'm upset about the end (but I guess it is really apersonal issue) . But at the same time the end is what makes this movieso breathtaking. Go watch it!!
