Certainly Better Than the Previous Film

Quarantine 2 (2011) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Better than average sequel has a group of people heading off in a planebut on the journey one of them gets sick and they are forced to returnto the airport. Once there they are all put under a quarantine and sooneach of them start changing due to some sort of virus. The originalfilm was a poorly made, scene-for-scene remake of a wonderful Spanishfilm but thankfully this sequel decides to do its own thing and itdoesn't try to just rip REC 2. What I really enjoyed in this sequel isthat it takes place at the same time as the events in the first movie.Early on one of the passengers is watching a news clip of the eventsgoing on at the apartment complex and the way the two films are broughttogether was nicely done. I really enjoyed how this film tries toexpand on the events of the first film and the way they connect themwas nicely done. With that said, there is one major flaw and that's the"reason" behind the virus. We finally learn the cause of the virus andwhy it's out there and you can't help but roll your eyes when you learnwhat it is. Performances are pretty good here with Mercedes Mosohn andNoree Victoria really standing out. One issue with the film is that itreally lacks any atmosphere, which is a real shame. There's a tad bitwhen the people are on the plane due to how tight of a space they haveto deal with but once the action hits the hanger things start to diedown. It might have been a more clever idea to keep everyone on theplane. Fans of the gore certainly won't be disappointed as there'squite a bit of violence and plenty of flesh is bitten off. QUARANTINE 2went straight to DVD and it's easy to see why because it's really justa "B" movie at heart. With that said, it's a pretty good "B" movie thatdelivers some nice thrills.

remake of Quarantine but now on a plane

John Pogue the director of Quarantine 2: Terminal is more known as awriter for The Skulls trilogy and Ghostship but this is his firstattempt to direct a horror flick. He did well on that part but thestory itself was just a rip-off of REC and Quarantine but here thevirus do evolve on a plane. The acting from Mercedes Masöhn was excellent and believable but theacting by the ones who got the virus wasn't convincing all the time.Sometimes they were just actors running around with make-up. But itstarted so well and slowly with knowing all the characters on the planeand it had so many potential because once a plane is airborne youhaven't got a place to run or hide. Could have been so creepy. And sothe virus starts on that particular plane. And that's the best part, once on the airport we do have the same story as in Quarantine or theoriginal REC's. Running, shooting, biting and the dark passages withcamera's that can see in the dark or can see heat. The end waspredictable too.Sadly it was a bit of the same as I said Quarantine with nothingspecial to add. No jump moments or whatsoever. If they only could havestayed at the plane...Gore 1/5 Nudity 0/5 Story 2/5 Effects 2/5 Comedy 0/5

How does Quarantine 2 compare to the original?

Quarantine 2: Terminal is definitely not as good as the first movie. It's not a bad movie, but it just doesn't live up to expectations. Themajor issue is that it's not close to as frightening as the originalQuarantine. I might have jumped once or twice during the movie, max.So, don't go into this expecting a lot of thrills and chills. The partof the film that is most likely to make you wince actually involves aneedle, which might be great for a Saw movie, but not exactly what Iwas hoping for from this. Along with less scares, we get less gore and less "zombie" action. Thecharacters aren't very interesting for the most part, either, thoughthere are a couple of pretty sexy ladies for the guys who don't mindsomething a little extra on-screen to help keep their attention. The filmmakers decided to go on their own direction, and the story is acomplete departure from what happened in the continuation of the RECseries (which Quarantine was originally based on). Nothing wrong withthat, but the sequel suffers without a strong story framework to baseit on. Quarantine 2 is just not that good. My interest in it dwindledthe further it went along, until I was just ready for it to be over.Which doesn't exactly make me excited that the ending sets up perfectlyfor a third entry in the series.

Typical American Re-Hash

*There may be spoilers in review* Having watched Rec 1 & 2 and also watched Quarantine, I decided towatch this "film" and shuddered at the overall lacklustre quality...Gone is the "shaky cam" filming which made the other films different tomost films, gone is the mythology of the others and gone are any commonsense. The acting is poor, the "zombies" are completely different and thescript is terrible. The story is that the usual stereotypical horror characters (worriedfather to be, "asshole" businessman, vulnerable teenager etc) are on aplane and the plane must make an emergency landing due to one of thepassengers going crazy. The land the plane in a closed off terminalwhich is soon quarantined and before long they are running from most ofthe planes passengers which are now "zombies".The film stutters and starts during the whole film and even has somestrange script choices, for example the passengers have only just beentaken off the plane and a group of them decide that they are going backon the plane for a medical kit and laptop. The weird thing is that thebaggage boy seems to know more than the rest when he exlaims that he"doesn't want to be infected" when nobody knows anything that is goingon yet?! All they know is that one guy has gone crazy and they havelocked him in the toilets, where does infected come in?! The end of thefilm is a copy and retread of the original quarantine but yet has astupid boy believing that an "infected" woman won't hurt him and theinfected woman managed to fight of the infection until later!! In theoriginal Quarantine the "zombies" are running around crazy andattacking everything and yet in this film, zombies manage to pretend tobe scared, fight off "zombie instincts" and try and act normal. Theyeven try a crappy "oh no" ending when they have a cat excape fromquarantined infected.....oh dear....In short this film is a generic zombie film, which is if you loved Recor Quarantine 1, avoid this terrible film...

DEFINITELY worth watching and then getting the DVD

This review is from: Quarantine 2: Terminal (Amazon Instant Video) I just finished watching Q2. Awesome, kicka** movie. DEFINITELY a must have for my video library. Quarantine was good, I really liked it. Q2 smokes it, hands down. All unknown "noname" actors, but you really couldn't tell. Great acting, great special effects. The lighting sometimes left something to be desired, but that barely hurt this flick. *NOTE* I don't have an HDtv, just an old fashioned SD 26" screen so that could be a factor ;)I don't want to give any spoilers, I personally hate that. All I can say is, if you thought Quarantine was good you HAVE to see this flick. Okay, 1 ***SPOILER ALERT*** (kind of)....This isn't a sequel. It happens in the same time frame as Quarantine does/did. Q is referenced several times in this movie. It was like----- "and meanwhile at the airport....." lolI'm a zombie-phile, so I don't really consider this a zombie flick. More like an "infected" flick. But that does NOT take anything away from this movie. It is on the same level as any of the so-called Blockbusters released lately IMHOI found the DVD release date on another site...August 2, 2011. Whether that is right, I can only hope. I do have digital copies of quite a few movies, but I like to have a hard copy of some as well. This is at the top of my "gotta have" list.Hope you agree

A fate worse than death

This review is from: Quarantine 2: Terminal (Amazon Instant Video) The first quarantine set a low bar and this one manages to set an even lower bar. The characters are idiots and so much of this movie has flaws asronomicly wrong that no one with an IQ would think it is believeable. One character manages to bring a handgun, with ammunition on the plane, with his bags! Airplane policy is for the gun to be emprty and if it is a handgun then it should be in slide lock with its own sepereate case! Before you write a movie learn how the real world works!

A Surprisingly Entertaining Horror Film

In Los Angeles, the police put a residential building in quarantine.Meanwhile, the flight attendants of the Trans Sky Air Jenny (MercedesMasöhn) and Paula (Bre Blair) are welcoming the passengers of theflight TS Air 318 from Los Angeles to Kansas City with Captain Forrest(John Curran) and Co-Pilot Wilsy (Andrew Benator). The teacher Henry(Josh Cooker) brings a cage of hamsters to the cabin, but Jenny tellshim that it should be transported in the cargo hold. However, onehamster bites the fingertip of the fat passenger Ralph (George Back). Sooner, Ralph vomits and becomes aggressive, attacking Paula. The malepassengers help Jenny and lock Ralph in the bathroom while CaptainForrest requests an emergency landing. When they land in the airport, they find all the gates closed and the Captain heads the plane to anabandoned terminal. The employee Ed (Ignacio Serricchio) helps the crewand passenger to reach the exit, but they find that they are closed.Sooner they discover that the place is in quarantine and there is noway out."Quarentine 2: Terminal" is a surprisingly entertaining horror film, with a refreshing story of deadly virus and good performances. Myexpectations were very low, since the first "Quarentine" is a simplerip- off of "REC". However, the writers have succeeded in this Americansequel, since they changed the religious focus of "REC 2" that happensinside the same building to a terrorist (the present American paranoia)view, with the virus outbreak in a flight. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Quarentena 2" ("Quarentine 2")

About as good as expected

This review is from: Quarantine 2: The Terminal (Amazon Instant Video) I didn't expect much and got exactly what I expected. It can hardly be viewed as a sequel to the original Quarantine, which was superior in every way.In short, the movie was worth watching, glad I rented it so I wouldn't have to sell it for a few pennies on the dollar to some trade outfit......sure wouldnt consider it a keeper if I owned the physical copy.

Clichd and predictable

Quarantine was the American remake of REC. I expected Quarantine 2 tofollow in the footsteps of REC 2 but found that it had nothing to dowith that wonderful sequel. While I can't say that I was terriblydisappointed, I was, in fact, more than slightly let down by thishighly predictable and unoriginal film. The acting was decent and acceptable. While there were no Academy Awardstyle deliveries, the overall performances were fine and believable foreach character. The characters themselves were exactly what I expectedto find after watching the first ten minutes of the movie. It was as ifthe horror movie handbook was used for choosing them. There are the twobest friends and all around nice girls, an angst ridden and distantteen, the older spinster lady with her accompanying cat, the pregnantwoman with her overly defensive and rude husband/protector, and moststereotypical of all, imo, the overly friendly and helpful fat man. Afew things were changed however that made it a bit refreshing. Thistime around it wasn't the teen who didn't follow orders, but an adultwho considered herself above them, and due to that creates the setupfor (god forbid) a sequel. This setup will become fully apparent longbefore the end of the movie and thus is no surprise, and causes nochills. It's all been done before, and a lot worse and a lot better. You'llpretty much know who survives and the number of survivors half way intothe movie. There are no real scares, no character development, and thusvery little concern about who actually walks out at the end. I gave ita 3 because I've seen this movie probably 5 times before with only adifferent title and a different setting, and nothing impressed me atall.

BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE

I thought the first movie was lousy. I watched this one with extreme prejudice. The movie starts building the characters of 2 stewardesses. Then as they help and greet passengers we get a glimpse of the passenger backgrounds. We already know there is going to be an infection, but who? The co-pilot is sick. He thinks he got it from his dog. There is a woman on board from an apartment building. Her cat is with her. The cat had left the building which she claims is very unusual. There is a man with some hamsters. Another man helps him with the hamsters and gets bit. There is an elderly man who is sick along with his wife, and a woman who has just returned from overseas, and a few others. A man is watching the events unfold from outside the apartment building from the first picture on his laptop. This one picks up where the other leaves off except the action is in an airplane. Once a passenger gets infected and isolated in the restroom, the plane is told to land. It hooks up to a terminal where they are quarantined. Now it is just a matter of who lives and who dies. The first thing I noticed is they got rid of the hand held camera nonsense and had enough money to make this into a regular movie. They still jerked the camera around when an infected human attacked to give you that terror feel. The animal sounds made by the infected humans didn't seem to be real or coming from the people making them. There is room for improvement as they kept the door open for an infinite amount of sequels. Acting was a lot better than the first one. Better story line. Quick and effective introduction of characters before the action starts. MF/F-bomb, no nudity, some implied sex, no real sex scenes. four and a half stars.

Many people actually enjoyed this ugly movie?

(FYI, I didn't view part 1, and based on my experience with part 2, Idon't care to!) This movie has no redeeming value, except that theacting should meet your requirements, if you are interested in a gorefest that has no heart, no humor, and no point. These "characters"aren't all that sympathetic, though.I should have read the "fine print;" I mistakingly thought that itwould be fun to view characters confronting zombies in the confinedspaces of an airplane up-in-the-air. (I must have misunderstood thesubtitle, "Terminal," LOL). The characters mostly confront the zombiesin a so-called-working-part-of-an-airline-terminal; in this movie, thatequates to a setting that never seems to make any sense. Also turnsout, a comprehensible setting is one of those mysterious things thatare necessary to instill sweet horror in this viewer. There's no particular suspense, since the characters aren't all thatsympathetic. It's just gory but, basically, boring. Unless you might enjoymeaningless mayhem. I prefer my mayhem with a little suspense or alittle heart or a little humor.

Enjoyable B-Movie

I never saw REC, but I really enjoyed Quarantine, it had me on the edgeof my seat pretty much throughout the whole film, really well made filmin every regard, and no doubt just a more expensive version of theSpanish original, and more likely more immersive and gripping.. thesequel does feel Straight for Video in terms of the production value, and I guess the budget wasn't nearly the same as the first film.. but Ipersonally enjoy films like this, so long as it keeps me wonderingwhat's going to happen next, and I care for at least a couple of thecharacters, you really don't need to make a masterpiece for me to beentertained. It may not have the technical quality of the first, or the cast andcinematography, but for what it is, I had a good time, and it even mademe jump a few times, and i don't jump so easy.. good all round B-Movie.. give it a watch if you like Horror B-Movieswith people trapped in situations with no escape.

Quarantine Book of Shadows

So much like the sequel to Blair Witch Project, this movie pretty much fails. The first movie was an awesome first person pov movie that fit perfectly into the "found footage genre," but much like Blair Witch 2, this movie is a disappointment. We find out why the virus was originally made and we find out that who we thought was the CDC, really is a branch of the army fighting bio-terrorism. I am pretty curious how a passenger managed to get a handgun onto a plane, even though he checked it.Also at the end when all the zombies seemed to come out of the woodwork when the black girl sacrificed herself to give her friend time to get away was a little confusing. At that point if my math was right, we should have had 2 infected left alive, but somehow 5 zombies run out and attack her.If you like survival horror, check it out, but if you're expecting an awesome sequel to the first movie, don't waste your time.

Do NOT be fooled...

by the fact that this is a DIRECT-TO-DVD sequel to a remake. I rentedthis title because I was sure it was going to be a joke.As a movie overall, it isn't anything to write home about. As a sequel,it is pretty good. But, as a DIRECT-TO-DVD sequel of a remake, it wasAMAZING. I surprisingly liked the fact that there was NO hand heldcamera that was shooting everything. It was shot like a regular movie. From the beginning of the movie, I was expecting to sit back and laughat all the corny/cheesy lines or the horrible effects. I actuallyreally enjoyed this movie, very good for a thrill. It may not beeveryone's cup of tea but if you liked REC or Quarantine, you shouldlike it. Give it a shot. I did and am glad I did so.

Pleased overall with this sequel!

This review is from: Quarantine 2: The Terminal (Amazon Instant Video) When I purchased this rental via Amazon On Demand, I did not check out the trailer or read other reviews because I didn't want to set up any expectations for this flick. As a fan of the first one, I was looking forward to seeing how they would continue the storyline and if they also kept the "reality camera" view going, as they did with REC 2 (the original REC was the basis for America's version of Quarantine). All in all it was a great flick, which moved quickly with edge-of-your seat tension and some pretty scary moments! Treat yourself and rent this flick, but be sure to watch it in a dark room with no distractions and you'll be well rewarded :-D

First class virus!

It was believed that no one escaped when a bizarre virus ran amok in arun-down tenement in Los Angeles. Well, something must have escaped.Passengers aboard Flight 318 are in for more than a bumpy ride. Airturbulence will prove to be the least of their problems. Symptoms startslowly; but then infected passengers turn into crazed killers. Theterror-filled plane is forced to land at an isolated terminal and isimmediately surrounded by government agents armed to the hilt; buthoping the virus will run its course. Surviving travelers realize thatthey are being left to die and desperately need to escape thequarantine before becoming victims of those among them that have beeninfected. Tension builds at a pretty good clip and there are somedisturbing images. Some viewers may even hope this strain ends here. Inthe cast: Mercedes Mashohn, Josh Cooke, Bre Blair, Julie Gribble, LamarStewart and Tom Thon.

Quarantine 2?

The structure will be as follows : First, I will discuss (orcritique)the acting, then the dialogue, character development, thestory/plot, the camera shots (I am nowhere near a film student, justthought I'd say what I thought about a few of the shots, anyone notinterested can skip the section titled "camera") and lastly, thespecial effects/make-up (I don't believe I am doing the artists adisservice by putting the two together). Before I really begin, I would like to start by saying that I'm notsure if it was in the best interests of those who titled the movie tocall it "Quarantine 2". This is for the following reason, the movie itis a sequel to is filmed in a style known as "found footage," so I amnot sure why they thought they should stray from that style(this movieis not in found footage sadly) and still use the name as the namecarries the baggage of certain expectations with it. Now you may bewondering why I gave it a "good" rating and I will explain said ratingbelow..Acting: The acting was fairly decent on all accounts, slightly above OKwould be the best way to describe it. I didn't really see any instancesin which the acting was so atrocious that I cringed but I also wasn't"wowed" by any of it either. That being said, the main actress did agreat job, easily the best of the bunch, which isn't a bad thing seeingas she was in most of the shots. The acting on the part of the rest ofthe rag tag group of passengers was good enough that you could believethey were frightened, tense etc. The acting on the part of the zombieswas what you'd expect from people acting like zombies. They did a goodjob with the grunting and the crazed behavior (I would know or rather,I should know what zombies act like as I have seen many a teenagerwalking my streets late at night, presumably leaving some party orother). I would also like to address one complaint that really irkedme, I believe it went something like, "Ah, the zombies used handrails! Why would you do that if you were crazed?!" Well, the handrails dooffer some form of forwards propulsion, that's why us sane, uninfectedindividuals use them to get up stares when we are in a hurry.Dialogue: Eh. Well, it was dialogue! It served a purpose, thoughprimarily it was used as a vehicle to explain why the characters weremoving somewhere. I have realistic views, this is a horror movie, so Iwasn't going in expecting Shakespearesque soliloquies, who does that?!It was was decent, neither superb nor witty, nor was it as laughablycheesy as the dialogue found in 80's B level action movies.Character Development: As I said, it is a horror movie. This may seemlike I am using it as a cop out but there are certain things oneexpects from horror films, especially zombie films, and superbcharacter development is not one of those things. That is not to say itisn't welcome, but it is not the status quo. You get some of thebackground of the characters, you learn some things about their livesbefore they boarded the plane and that is about it.That being said, there is enough character exposition and development regarding thecharacters that you are meant to care about to make you want them tomake it out alive.Story/Plot: As one can surmise from the title, "Quarantine 2:Terminal," the story takes place in a plane/terminal. It is looselytied to the original "Quarantine" through some passing remarks aboutthe apartment building in LA in which the events of the first takeplace. Other than that the story is basically, group of rag tag peoplesurviving something akin to human rabies/the rage virus in 28days/weeks later. Not much else to say here other than it serves thepurpose of giving the film creators an excuse to show people beingkilled by zombie like things. This film also has a needle scene thatwill make Trypanophobes (yes, I did just put that word there because Ilike the way it sounds), also known as those who have a fear ofneedles, queasy and squirm with unease.Camera: Not much I can say here, as I mentioned in my opening I am notanything close to resembling a film student. I wanted to mention thatin some scenes the director decided that cutting to thermal vision andshowing it from the perspective of the character was odd. It was not somuch the choice that threw me off, as it was the times it was used. Insome cases it was used well, other times I found myself wondering whyit was necessary.Special Effects/Make-up: The make-up artists did a great job with theinfected, their eyes look bulbous and bloodshot, their veins bulge dueto the increased blood flow the infection causes (I guess?) and theirskin looks sickeningly pale. The make-up artists also did a nice jobwith the face of a character who had been bitten, I found myselfwincing at the mangled strands of flesh hanging off her face (thoughthe camera doesn't linger) and blood gushing out. There were somespecial effects, I believe gunfire counts as such? If so, it was donefine, as were the bullet wounds, the gore and so on. In conclusion, this was an OK zombie film, pushed slightly abovemediocrity by the great make-up and some decent acting.Perhaps I ambeing too generous in retrospect but I believe this films deserves ascore of 7/10.

get ready to be raped by your couch cushion

Quarantine 2 showed a pre-view for REC2 the original Spanish languagefilm that started this all REC. All though it had the usual nightvision camera pop-up rabid zombies, it did nothing to dispel the fearand in trepidation of Quarantine 2 terminal. Here we find ourselves ona plane with already one infected person, and as we're waiting forpop-goes the weasel we're getting distracted by the fact that thisvirus is unleashed by ordinary men and women apocalyptic zealots andthe government new about it with a by the book response. The planeunbeknown to all but one is fleeing LA. Diverted to Las Vegas. Theyland in the terminal they get quarantined by trigger-happy governmentstorm troopers. The pilots and passengers start the "TURNING". As moreand more information is gleamed, about LA the survivors start turningon each other to see who infected the others. The lights go off and itsup to the survivors to make it out of the terminal while avoiding theinfected and the police.
