A great movie with spooky moments not for the faint hearted
Night Skies(2007) is a great movie with spooky moments definitely notfor the faint hearted. On the DVD disk you can SEE more of Richard andLily on the UFO and HEAR more gunshot and screams. And if you watchclosely in the scene where Richard is in the forest after shooting theother guy, you can see a real freaky alien! Yipes! I flinched afterlater glimpsing the alien again when Richard got back on the RV.Totally scary as we see Lily running for her life(or maybe it was oneof the other girls ?) and trying to make it till morning after they getabducted and Richie has to kill her. Yipes! The cops at the end of thefilm find Richie scared as hell! Definitely not to miss! 9.98/10! Hireit out or buy it today!

Like Fire in the Sky combined with a mediocre horror movie...
I don't know if this is actually supposed to be true (like "Fire in theSky"), or the "true" part is just for dramatic purposes. Either way, itplays out mostly like a horror movie. You start with a group ofshallow, mostly attractive young people. They manage to wreck their RVin a deserted place, running into Jason Connery (who does an impressivejob of acting and looking like a rural American). It's actually an okay movie until the ending. When it really turns intoa bad-ish horror movie more than anything else. It's not so much eventhe clichéd nature of it, but the fact that it is so rushed. Much ofthe movie is simply the various characters talking, then boom, all theaction seems to happen at once (in the final 20 minutes of the film). No suspense or anything, really, once it starts. The special effects are surprisingly good for what presumably was avery low budget movie. The blood actually looks like blood, not syrup. The aliens are generally never clearly seen which helps, but when theyare, they don't necessarily look like guys in suits. While watching the film though, I was really struck by how silly thealiens were acting. (This is perhaps because it is a "true" story, famed UFOlogist Jaques Vallee argues that UFOs are not aliens fromanother planet, because they seem to act so stupid.) Anyway, probablynot worth getting unless you are a Jason Connery fan. I really don'tthink it works that well as a horror movie because of the rushedending. And I don't think UFO fans will be too impressed either, because nothing is really new in it. It's basically like a moregruesome "Fire in the Sky".

What do people expect?
This review is from: Night Skies (Widescreen Edition) (DVD) I have read the reviews people have left for this movie and an still shocked at what they complain about. First off this is a typical B horror movie with a very low budget. When you have a low budget you can't afford great actors. These type of movies are made for fans of B horror. I'm not sure why people dissect these films and try to find everything that's wrong with the film. You are going to find hundreads of things wrong with this movie it's low budget. I loved the fact that they used a true event and created a story out of the Arizona sightings. I knew it was not all real. Come on people how can you believe this really happened. Only the lights in the sky are true events the rest is made up story. This movie was pretty good compared to other movies of its genre. I loved this movie just as well as I loved Altered. The idea of this film was great and I give the director his props for making a great little B horror movie that I can add to my collection. If you liked this movie check out Altered this movie was awsome as well. I'm sorry I just don't think people understand that not all movies can be big budget with great actors. You guys can keep your high priced tickets and your stale popcorn. Give me a B horror movie and taco bell and I'm in heaven. You can pay $12 dollars for a movie that's okay like Fourth Kind.I only paid $2 dollars for this movie on Amazon I will stick to my low budget movies and see the actors who will become future stars.

Women, love, guns... but where are visitors?
The movie has an interesting beginning, claiming it's based on a truestory. Story, however, either isn't screen-played well, or, some bigparts of "the story" were actually missing (or, shall I say too muchdramatized). The story is about an event (some light spotting) in USAand some awkward chain of events that a man (Richard) has undergone.More than half of the movie is NOT about the promised story; it's abouta dramatic (!) events where people don't behave dramatic enough and youlose all your concentration. Acting was not reflecting chain of eventsin the movie and you see people behave in such a strange way as if theyforgot about what has happened just a few seconds ago.It all boils down to this; this screenplay makes the story groundless;I don't know whether it was real, but my impression is simply "waste oftime".

Night Skies (2007)
As much as I hate to admit it, aliens creep me out. It's probably thesimplistic form they usually take, their silence, and yet knowing howintelligent they are. Even a low budget, shoddily acted bit of hokumlike Night Skies, has enough to unsettle me for the most part. A lot ofit is in the amateur leagues, but the director certainly has an eye forsticking stuff in the background. It gets even creepier when we seethings that the characters don't. It's a shame that there's such abombastic musical score to ruin a lot of the intensity. It's tolerablewhen it keeps itself simple, but when it goes aliens overboard it losesthe mystery.

Night Skies (2007)
This one is pretty bad. It has certain redeeming qualities to it, butnot very many. There's the adorable in that innocent kind of way A.J.Cook who is the first and probably only good reason to see this film, there is the one other hot girl, and then there is like the one momentwhere the film can possibly make you jump, but then you will findyourself angry that a movie this horrible actually managed to scare youfor a second by way of extremely loud noises and music thrown at you.But pretty much, everything that you think will happen is going tohappen. The predictability level is excruciatingly high with this one.You should make a game of it with your friends to see who can call outmore of what is about to happen on screen. The filmmakers really justleeched off of a tiny nutshell of a true story and used it to get morepeople to try and see this flick. The film really should have just madethe aliens into freaky redneck cannibals in the woods, and it wouldhave been more plausible and made more sense probably to what happensmost of the time in the film. Aliens were a bad idea for the "creature"or whatever you wanna call them; aliens wouldn't even want to wastetheir time doing half of the crap they do in this movie. The personseeking a genuine UFO film is going to walk away disappointed, so UFOfans beware.NIGHT SKIES -----4/10.

The Hills Have UFOs!!!
This Movie was realy good. It was missing few things. Not enough to make this Horror slash Sci-Fi not a good movie. The special effects were awsome and they used some of the real shot's of UFO's that took place at that time. Not quite "Fire in the Sky" but maybe the second best thing sence. Give it shot!!!

Based On A True Story? Yeah... okay
I grabbed this cause it took my interest of Alien/Sci-Fi/Horror movies. I knew right away that when I read on the cover it is based on a true story that that was not true, I refuse to believe that, but I hoped for an interesting story and a decent movie tho. However I soon discovered that a group of friends driving there R.V who spot a bunch of light's in the sky and end up crashing because the driver did not notice a man and his broken down car on the side road end's up making them skid into a power pole and crash. One of them end's up with a knife in his back and the driver of the broken down car end's up trying to help them as a couple of them venture into the woods and get picked off by "aliens" like a Jason Voorhee's could have done it.Then they come back, yelling away, blah blah blah, let's get out of here, oh no she's dead, the aliens have abducted us, the dingo stole my baby and then end credits.Overall, this movie as I expected was claimed to be based on a true story, which is a lie, it's just to get your attention, and then the plot is not at all well thought out, and then goes into a lot of a waste of time to watch and thing's that could have been done better.About the only decent idea they had was that when aliens perform surgery, they can use a goo of some kind to make human skin transparent, yet does not allow blood to poor out. I suppose if you love B-movies where the cast don't act like anything but actors trying to be cool, swearing in useless and unbelievable dialog, and 3 woman with firm chesticles that they half expose most of the time making sure you can see right down there top's for an excuse of, "at least if you can't stand our acting you can stare at these puppies" then this is the perfect movie for you..... If not, avoid it.They should have just cut out the Alien stuff, replaced them with a maniac in a hockey mask, called the cabin Camp Crystal Lake, re written the ending, and wallah, Friday The 13th part 1000. Tho, as a F13th fan, I still don't like this movie.

Ive watched Night Skies, I can take ANYTHING!!!
Yes, this was pretty awful. It's somewhere between a Dubya economicsessay and waterboard torture. Only watched it because Blockbuster isclosing all their stores and this is one of the few movies still leftin a store.Low budget, horrible dialog, horrible plot, horrible acting, andextreme boredom combine forces with this one. It's so boring, couldlisten to any insurance seminar for days with a big smile on my face. When they'd say, "How can you stand it??" I'd say because I've watchedNight Skies, I can take ANYTHING.When the price of gas rises, less seems to happen in U Know Where. Withthis movie, gas must have been $8 because absolutely nothing happens.

truth is not as interesting as fiction...
i'm not saying i enjoyed this movie...i doubt i will. i'm about a halfhour in and wondering if i should see the rest and took a time out tosee what the rest of the geniuses had to say here...about one of the 'other two' s comments about the lack of chemistrybetween the people? i don't know...they seemed like people I'VEknown...not so cinematic(and, yes, it does have a 'B' feel so far. idon't, unfortunately, expect that to change)/interesting...somewhatshallow. but they're young. that makes their characters more realisticto me... not that they're interesting to people beyond this postadolescent age group... anyways, we're not watching it for THEM, somuch...are we? we want to see what happens in one, supposedlyreal/based on whatEVER, encounter with creatures we ourselves will, likely, never encounter.i hope it does SOMEthing that i do find interesting along the way,though... let's see...OK. i'm back. i would've written 2 separate comments but this sitedoesn't allow for that... 'B feel' DOES continue. some real good actingby someone connery. wonder if he's any relationship to bond. theacting, on the whole, is what made the movie watchable...and i thoughtthe alien interaction(although it DID, very much, remind me of anaforementioned(by another reviewer. or whatever we are...)film). thankgod this site doesn't limit number of parentheses or i'd be frakked)WASinteresting... esp since it was a similar experience by two differentgroups of people in these movies. unless both stories were based on thesame incident...i'm not sure of the history of this event or any of thespecifics... anyways, i'm not recommending this film. maybe on a slownight... like you just found out that, for whatever reason, you weregoing to live forever and had time to watch EVERYthing kind of night...because the movies aforementioned(by other whatever we ares)are MUCHbetter...you'll even recognize some of the actors... ;-) not that i'venever seen a movie that i thought was fanTAStic w/out anyone irecognized. anyone see 'the station agent'?the music is what really undid it...forecast every mood i was going toexperience...they must've run out of budget or something...i wishfilmmakers would realize just how important music is. too much at thewrong moments can be distracting...let the actors you hire do their joband they SHOULD be able to elicit the emotions you're trying to pavlovoutta me. that and a good script should do the job. i wonder if ishould mention the 'fright' clichés...believe me. you'll recognize themif you see them...i'm surprised they didn't do the screeching catjumping out of nowhere...i know where they could've put it. like isaid...probably ran out of budget...those cats and their overinflatedsalaries...

Excellent in ALL Respects
This movie is the sleeper of the decade. Ever since my first viewing, I've wanted to research the alleged factual basis for it. I still do and will likely get around to doing the necessary research one day. Understandably, this particular case, if partly true, is readily dismissed because of the lack of additional witnesses. I wonder why? ;) This movie is truly one of the scariest because of it's partly factual basis. "Night Skies" is even more eerie than "Fire In The Sky". Very good screenplay and performances from the cast. Nearly brilliant!

Making something saleable out of thin air
I watched this movie for two reasons: Jason Connery (son of Sean) andthe story of alien abduction it purported to tell.If you watched a movie for these reasons, what would you expect to see?Well, I saw the actor in what appeared to be a very low-budget movie. No semblance to Sean, sadly (the actor playing Joe did). Though, Iwould say that he did a very good job playing an American army hick. Iwas impressed with that.Much of the story was shot in the dark, among the trees, or in a verysmall area where the actors behaved claustrophobic. There was littlesignificant dialogue, nothing really worth remembering, no one waxingphilosophic at a critical juncture.. and no answers. It reminded mevery much of The Blair Witch Project without the very helpful DVDextras. Minus the shaky camera business which, let's face it, didn'timprove the viewing experience. The movie did not do a satisfactory job convincing me that the eventhappened and beyond seeing the son of Sean why would you want to seethat? Perhaps a caveat here is: if you're going to do a story about astrange event, broaden the perspective.

Whats really going on?
I have never heard of the phoenix lights until i watched this movie. After watching it, it made me start to think about what the government/military or whoever it is that covers these things up and why they would do this.I believe they made some sort of a deal with the crazy aliens that they can take people from certain areas and not from others and so they stop investigations and whatnot and hope we all forget. If this is true, and i believe it is , they might have made this deal with them to save the rest of us from these experiments.Maybe im just crazy,i dont know. There is a website www. lightsoverphoenix. com/home.html that you might find interesting, especially whats in THE BOX!!The movie was well done with some creepy parts.Good acting, the only part i didnt care for was the ending. He should have used the bullet on something else!Enjoy

Hey I got 200, lets make a movie!
Wow. I actually just went through the IMDb registration just to leave anote about this movie. Don't watch it! I actually wanted to scratch upthe DVD so someone doesn't feel like I do when they rent the copy Ihave. The characters are (written) so stupid that, like someone elsecommented here, I was totally rooting for the aliens! If peopleactually act like these people acted, I have to move out of Arizona. Ifyou put them all together, they're as dumb as a box of hair.I think the effects would have been better if they had more than a panlight, some dry ice, and a case of silly string (pink and yellow, it'sfor the end). If one girl can get sucked up by light, why do all thealiens follow them around the woods? These guys mastered space flight, right? FYI to filmmaker: blood, not translucent; superglue, not atruncate; and why would they not have first aid, but they have a blockof about 8 knives? Errr!!Had to get it off my chest. If you've seen it, you'll understand; ifyou haven't, don't.

Not worth your time
I really tried to like this movie. I gave it time, waiting for all the sexual drivel and bad acting to be replaced by some alien abduction action. At 45 minutes in, I threw in the towel.Night Skies is pretty much a bland alien/horror film with little to offer. bad acting. Slow moving plot. Little to no suspense. If you're looking for something to wet your alien/sci-fi whistle, try Altered instead.

Bad characters, nothing original
Don't thing there are spoilers in, but if you are very pedantic, theremight be something mentioned, very little and that will not affect theinhuman joy of watching the movie. But however :SPOILERS !!!11!The characters reactions are very unnatural. It must be some kind ofrare combination between terrible directing and bad acting to achieveit. Every scary-wannabe element in it is such a cliché, we laughedduring the whole movie - you just know what will happen. It is notinteresting, nor scary, nor it has any sense in it. When one of theguys went in the forest in the middle of nowhere (without even checkingif she is back in the RV with the others, where she was of course)screaming the name of his girlfriend, looking for her, it wasimpossible not to remind me for the Pablo Francisco jokes about dumbhorror movies : "Anybody home?" A man is obviously entering a house.Scary killer's music (in this movie it was the dumb scary creatures'sound ala Grudge) "Billy?" the scary sounds again "I'm gonna get nakedand take a shower" They are so easy to kill you can strangle them witha wireless phoneAll together, the movie sucks. Don't watch it. Go to youtube and watchsome Pablo Francisco instead ;)

Night Skies delivers
Released on DVD in January, 2007, "Night Skies" is an alien encounterfilm based on the UFO sightings in Arizona on March 13, 1997.I was hesitant to give this film a chance because the plot was so thin,as seen in the trailer: On the night of the UFO sightings a group ofyouths in an RV come across a man in a broken-down truck and then, frighteningly, have an encounter with aliens. After viewing the film, the thin plot and the resulting padding is theonly real negative, unless you count the low-budget, which means a veryconfined location and only a handful of characters. But since that'swhat the movie's about (a small group of people in a remote location)that's not really a problem.Other than that the film delivers with: - A serious, non-campy approach. Someone likened "Night Skies" to the"Friday the 13th" franchise with the exception that Jason issubstituted for aliens. Although this is pretty accurate, "Night Skies"lacks the goofy entertaining vibe of most of the "Friday the 13th"sequels. In other words, the filmmakers and cast take the materialserious. What would happen if a group of youths and a stranded manreally came across some scary aliens and were abducted? This film showsyou.- A quality cast. Jason Connery is great as the sympathetic strangerwith a troubled past. Jason is Sean's son, of course, and veryreminiscent of Will Patton in "The Mothman Prophecies." Also on hand isAshley Peldon; she's petite, beautiful and likable. Her character,Molly, senses something admirable and benevolent in the stranger, despite his past struggles. This shows that the writers at least triedto give the characters depth. The only unlikable character is Matt, theclichéd arrogant "alpha male" who thinks with his crotch and fists. Allthe actors do their part to convey a serious, frightening situation, not that I found the movie scary (though some may), but neither was Ilaughing (as with most of the "Friday the 13th" flicks).- Although the soundtrack isn't all that noticeable it contributes tothe serious, frightening vibe of the film. There's also a decentrock/metal song played during the closing credits "Dragon" by FeersumEnnjin, Paul D'Amour's band. Paul was the original bassist for Toolduring the UNDERTOW period, which featured the devastatingly honest &potent "Sober." - At around the hour mark I was thinking that this would be one ofthose lame alien-encounter movies that fail to deliver, but the finalact gives you everything you might want in a movie of this nature. Iwon't say anymore. Let's just say the film doesn't wuss out on theabduction factor and the F/X are pretty good. The film was shot in California (L.A. and Santa Clarita) and runs alean 1 hour, 23 minutes, which is good since movies like this shouldn'toverstay their welcome.FINAL WORD: There's not much else to say, "Night Skies" has a thinplot, confined locations and few characters, but it takes its subjectseriously, has quality actors and gives the viewer everything you mightwant from an alien-encounter flick.GRADE: B

Dont waste your time
Within the first ten minutes, I hated everyone in this movie. I don't understand why recent movies have mean spirited people in it. Maybe I'm just getting old. These Hollywood jackasses' should realize that not everyone acts like THEM or their bratty KIDS. Cursing every five seconds, putting each other down every chance they get, Going for the POT as soon a the situation presents itself, drinking while driving. Give me a break. This is all within the first ten minutes. I would care less if they drove off a mountain by that point.I know it's only a movie, but movies reflect society and movies influence it as well.

Not original at all
The story is a bit repetitive, we all have seen alien's movies withplastic monsters and a group of friends whose car breaks in the middleof the nothing... This one isn't different (although it's based on thetestimony of lots of witnesses who assure to have seen UFO's).I think the movie is a cliché of all the first ET's movies but I haveto admit that in some moments I was tense and the cameraman did anexcellent job... It's a shame that the ending of the movie was sodisappointing, but the real thing is we'll never know if the Phoenixlights they swear to have seen where actually aliens... Other alienmovie to watch at midnight.
