Poor acting from the main character
Overall it's a pretty funny show but Zooey Deschanel is too busy overacting. The supporting cast does a good job, as do the writers butDeschanel is too over the top. Trying to hard to sell bad jokes and actcooky. She needs to calm down and tone it down and the show would bepretty good. The supporting cast of her three male roommates and model best friendare solid role players. Max Greenfield is great as a typical "financeguy" jerk. Jake M. Johnson is a good wise old sage of a roommate who isthe smartest of the bunch but for some reason has limited himself to bea bartender. Lamorne Morris is a good glue guy. Has a certain level ofcool about him but is good to hold the group together and play whateverrole is needed for the story line. Hannah Simone plays the Deschanel'sbest friend who happens to be a model. OF course the roommates all gogaga over her.

Good start.
I'm not usually the kind who watches new shows. I like to wait for aseason at least to be out so I can know beforehand what I'm expecting. But I decided to give this show a chance because of Zooey. I'm not abig fan of her. I think she is adorable but tend to play the same typeof character a lot. So I was looking forward to seeing her be adifferent character.First, I'd have to say she is not really different much. She is stillbeing the quirky and eccentric weirdo who is (luckily) very cute.As for my general opinion of this show, it is a funny show. Not sohilarious. It just had its moments. There are some smart and funnyideas that are very entertaining. But there are a lot of clichés too.The same old story of a girl surrounded by over protective guys andhave a super model friend. But I liked the characters in general. They all have their ownpersonality. And they are the kind that grows onto you. And you findyourself rooting for them. This show can turn to be a great show if they stayed away from theclichés. And I think the best way for that is that they don't set upZooey with any of her roommates. And if they do, they should let ittake a long time before that happens with a proper development. In conclusion, a light-hearted funny show.

Best Comedy in Years!
This could become the next scrubs! This show is amazing, the writing issharp and smart and the actors are amazing. This show has so much heart in it, I can see this becoming the next"Scrubs".After many years we finally get a good TV show. After the first so-soepisodes, the show found its footing and is getting better with eachepisode. For example last years (Mr Sunshine or Traffic Lights) showsfailed miserably because they became boring and not funny after a fewepisode. However this show makes you smile all the time. I canrecommend this to everybody who wants good comedy (and not somethinglike two and half men).

very stereotype
That show is pretty bad... the concept is indeed very old but alsoapproved and could work at least as a nice feel-good series (epeciallywith this lead-actress) if done right. But really this series doesn'tfeel good, it hurts. The show is all about sexual stereotypes andclichés. A young and hot and totally quirky "girrl" moves into a hugeyuppie-flat together with 3 good looking shaped body homophobic malerole models. She turns their live around by singing and being cute anddoing totally crazy girlie stuff which only a very boring person (likeher roommates) could find totally crazy. It seems like the 3 guys nevergot in contact with female characters before. Unless they are totalnerds (which they are not - i think they hate nerds) or gay (which theyare not - i think they hate gay people) they must be idiots. Besides ofbeing pretty unrealistic all characters are really very stereotypeplain stupid. Its the kind of characters you hate for being so dumb andshallow. I could not help but think "wow, this is kind of sexist" acouple of times while watching the pilot. Don't get me wrong: I am ableto enjoy stupid feel-good sitcom series like "Two and a half men" but"New girl" is just not funny and likable.

I love this show so much!
This show is the perfect mix of hilarious quotes, misguided charactersand incredible comic actors and writers. The dysfunctional friendshipsthe characters share are brilliant, and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) hasinnumerable hilarious quirks. A brilliant show with great story lines, and just a perfect amount of silliness!I love this show so much it pains me to wait for the each episode tocome out. This show is absolutely brilliant what with Schmidt'sridiculous habits ( he does love his hair chut-en-ay), Nick's comicpessimism, Winston's competitivity, Cece's unexpected interest inSchmidt (they are an odd pairing), and Jess's adorable mannerisms, thisis a recipe for a great show!

New Girl-New Show with potential
Okay, this certain section is entirely a result of all the otherreviews. I have been following this series since the pilot and I foundthe this to be entertaining. The story of a girl, who after a break upshares an apartment with three bachelors...how they get together like afamily, this is all the story is about. Now the story might not attractthe male population out there, but guys you are not really the targetaudience. This show is meant for the girls, and they will love it. Asfor the acting, Zooey Deschanel is adorable as Jess. Nick, Schmidt &Winston might not be Sam and Dean Winchester, but they are not badeither. My suggestion-sit through the show for a few episodes, you'lldefinitely like it.

Light, refreshing comedy
From the first episode, I found New Girl to be my favourite new series. The premise of the show, a girl living with 3 guys and hilarity ensues,is not the most original, nor the most realistic. But I find thecharacters to be intriguing, so that I keep wanting to return to seewhat happens next. After a few episodes, the characters become more relatable than in thepilot. Jess is totally awkward, and it seems half the time her head isin the clouds, and half the time she's the most down to earthcharacter. Her extroverted nature becomes more manageable as the seriesdevelops, so don't let it put you off initially. Nick is a 30-something drop out that still lives with a studentmindset. He comes up with some creative ways to not spend money. He'sportrayed as not living up to his potential, yet his manner draws youin, kind of like a helpless puppy that you find adorable and pitiful atthe same time.Other reviews are fairly down on Schmidt. Yes, initially, he reeks ofdouche bag. But he's an ex-fat-kid that now overcompensates for hislack of self esteem with douchey mannerisms. Given that, he's a fairlyrealistic character with a well developed history. His arrogance isalways portrayed in a humorous way, and has become my favourite part ofthe show.Winston had his 15 minutes of fame and now is dealing with just being anobody in a big city again. Fair enough, token black guy. There is a lot of awkward humour in this show - the kind of momentsthat make you cringe, yet you can't look away, and feel guilty aboutwanting to laugh. But every episode does make me laugh out loud. There's a touch of light drama, for those that just want a lighthearted show that won't make you think too much.Overall, I think this is a show about nothing. Every episode seems tobe a bunch of intertwining events that happen, like in most sitcoms, but this reminds me most of Seinfeld (the ultimate show about nothing),in that there is no ultimate destination that the storyline needs toarrive at - no huge expectations or conclusions being hung on theseason finale. It's just humorous interactions, some fairly plain andeveryday events, and some totally wacky events. Just a bright, lighthearted show, to be enjoyed for what it is.

awful
rubbish, awful, horrible, trash, garbage, Tories, bankers, solicitors, estate agents. I think you get the gist. My 5 year old niece can poop abetter TV series. Bland, banal, the Justin Bieber of TV shows. Just soboring, nauseatingly boring, it's like she had a personality bypass. The story lines are an attack to intelligence and enjoyment. Shocking.About as interesting as a bowl of turnips. Rubbish, awful, horrible, trash, garbage, Tories, bankers, solicitors, estate agents. I think youget the gist. Great
I give 'New Girl' a 10 out of 10. This show is awkward, quirky, odd, and the like, and that's what makesit so great. After my friend suggested I watch this show I tried outthe pilot episode, and I didn't think it would be something I liked.Jess was just too weird for me, but I grew to love her and the wholecast and show. Sure, the jokes are lame, but that's what makes me smile and have agood laugh. This is my new favorite show and I look forward to watchingevery new episode that comes out. I feel as though many people canactually relate to this show and the situations that occur in it, whichmakes it so much better. I truly hope this show makes it!

Kind of Funny
It is offbeat funny and that is really popular right now. It is chockfull of the pop culture references everyone loves nowadays. Beforewatching it I was afraid that the show would focus all on ZooeyDeschanel's cuteness. It does, but not as much as I thought. Though thehumor does kind of hit a little, it isn't laugh out loud funny. Plus itis only a matter of time that Zooey's character starts a longflirtatious Sam-and-Diane romantic tension with one of the characters. The plot has the old familiar sitcom clichés. She is a cute girl whofinds three men, men who seem very masculine, and turn them into herprotectors. The worst part was that the entire time I spent watchingit, I couldn't help comparing it to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.New Girl is like a watered down version of that show, Couch playing theaggressive Mac, Schmidt as the sociopath ladies man, Jess as the onlyfemale Sweet Dee of course, and Nick as the strange and lonely Charlie, replete with the ex girlfriend he can't get over played by...hey wait aminute...His ex is played by the exact same girl as Charlie's Waitresscharacter! I appreciate the effort, but it will never be as funny asthe full force of It's Always Sunny and I don't think I will be able tohelp myself in comparing the two because of the similarities.

Cuteness Personified
The show is just three episodes old. I couldn't resist myself to writethis review. New Girl is fantastic. Cuteness Personified. Zooey justovercast others by her natural charisma. This show is best show in thisfall. The good thing about the show is that it has huge potential andCreators are wisely using it. They have successfully developedcharacters, especially Zooey's character, Is that girl really outthere? I would like to fall in love with her. Zooey gives complimentsto writer's imagination by her acting. Format is very simple and now a days it rarely comes on TV. I thinkthis show going to stand apart from rest of other comedies.

This show deserves a better review and a lot of love!
The 1 star review that shows up when I looked this up on IMDb isridiculous! I watch quite a few shows (way too many) and this onegenuinely gets a smile on my face without cheap tricks, fake laughter, annoying punchline tunes trying to convince me what just happened wasfunny. The main characters in this show are already memorable in the pilot, they just have chemistry straight away. A lot of shows that I reallylove now didn't start off as well as 'New Girl' has for me.The 'formula' feels fresh to me, I haven't seen this show before inanother form and I absolutely love Zoey in this. Her personality inthis show is exactly why I fall in love in real life. Just watched thethird episode and I'll be sure to tune in next week!

I liked it enough but not enough to remember it...
My title says it all. Here's what I have to say about it:For what it was it was kind of funny. It was witty. It got boring. Iliked it but it is very vanilla. There wasn't enough flavor to keep meinterested. Honestly, I'd be surprised if this show got another season.I only think that the rating are 7 plus because the only one's thatreally rated it, liked it. When you weigh this show with other showsthat have a similar time slot . . . It just doesn't match up. I reallydon't like the girl that plays the main character, Zooey Whatever-It-May-Be (Honestly, I'm just too lazy too look up how to spell her lastname). Maybe I just don't like Jess, Zooey's character, that much. Sheis way too over the top, way more dramatic and crazy silly than mosttheater people I know and she is suppose to be a teacher? She's more ofa kid than the kids I know. I know that Miss Whatever-Her-Last-Name-Iscould have taken that script and portrayed a less eccentric character. The guys are cool and all but none of them are memorable either.I honestly, don't see this show surviving and it should be pulled offair so that another pilot of a better show can be aired.

Has a LOT of potential....but falls a little short of my hopes
I was really excited about this show when I first heard about itbecause I absolutely LOVE Zooey Deschanel, and I love her quirkypersonality and sense of humor. But I feel there is something lackingin all the other characters. The most disappointing is the Nickcharacter. He's down and out, and supposed to be down-to-earth, but Ihave a hard time liking his character. He gets jealous too easily andmakes a big deal of little things. He's not very interesting and I findhis confidence lacking. I really wish he was more laid-back, he seems alittle uptight. So I can see that the show wants Jess and him to gettogether at some point, but I really think his character needs changesbefore that happens.I like the Schmidt character, I think it's hilarious how he tries sohard with women, and is obnoxious in a funny way. I don't see Winstonas really connecting with the other guys, kinda seems like he doesn'twant to be there. And the girl that Nick is dating is pretty much areplica of Zooey, I think her personality should be more distinctive.Anyways, I hope the best for the show, it has a lot of potential withsuch a fabulous main actress, but the other characters need change andmore depth.

Funny and worth watching, but most of the comedy has been done before.
I started the show because I LOVE Zooey, and i liked it enough to keepgoing. I noticed mainly at the start that quite a lot of the jokes andsubplots have been done before but really the actors and differentcharacters make it worth it. They are all really likable and havereally good chemistry. I was disappointed when i found that 'The Coach'would only appear in the first episode but it wasn't long until i wasused to Winston. Just one more positive, I love the theme song. It's acatchy song and i have never seen an opening quite like it. Funny show,i hope it keeps going and furthers it's boundaries. It had a strongstart and definitely has a lot more potential.

Great and awaiting for more!
Sure, I don't know who the three roommate characters are (or Cece) but'New Girl' is primarily about Jess (Zooey Deschanel), right? After Zooey's appearance in Bones and movies like, "Elf" and "500 Daysof Summer" I definitely have proof of Zooey's varied acting repertoire. She can act, be funny and sing! This TV show has funny lines with Zooey taking the 'Most ADORKABLE"award. I love the characters, too! It's so refreshing to have a showwhich has scenes that incorporate music into the episode withoutbreaking into 'musical number' The only part of the premise I cannot get past is how Jess finds the 3guys off the internet. However, I cannot wait for the series to progress so I can get into thedepth of the characters. I would love to see romance blossom betweenJess and Nick (ala Ross and Rachel in Friends- minus the 'on-off'part!)Oh, more music from Zooey would be great, too! (:Enjoy! (:

Finally a funny comedy !
Just watched episodes 1-6 and have to say Im really enjoying this showand its the first show in ages that I've actually laughed out loud. Was confused why the character 'Coach' disappeared after show 1 beforegoogle advised me that his previous show was given a new series.Possibly a good thing as his character seemed to be the weakest one inthe pilot, just seemed to shout and not a lot else. The show may be about Jess but to be honest whilst Zooey is good as herthe character so far is little more than a kooky girl with nosubstance. Im sure her character will be fleshed out as the show goeson but for now she is upstaged by the other characters and the way theyinteract.Looking forward to seeing the show develop, Im sure it will get asecond series. My only hope is that they don't take the obvious path to putting Jesswith Nick as that would make the shows main idea (1 girl and 3 guys)pointless.

This show has promise.
Cute show but if Jess doesn't end up with a hot hipster with a haircutlike James McAvoy in Penelope, I'm going to quit watching. I don't knowhow much longer I can buy that this beautiful, intelligent girl isputting up with this house full of douchebags. Zooey Deschanel rocksand has so much to offer as an actress. It's unfortunate that she'sdegrading herself to play along with the TV stereotype that "dorky"people aren't desirable. I still have hope that she's not going to endup with one of her loser roommates. I would really like to see her asthe romantic lead in a film with a co-star that's up to her caliber. Her talent and appeal are being wasted here.

I Think Its Funny
Wow, I stopped by IMDb to see how the ratings were for New Girl andcheck out a few reviews. Gee whiz people, lighten up. Bottom line, ifyou like Zooey, you will like "New Girl". She's quirky, she's funny, she wears fake teeth and talks with a British accent at weddings. Yes,it was a bit disconcerting when Damon Wayons Jr was replaced (it's nothis fault that "Happy Endings" got picked up and he couldn't do bothshows) but Lamorne Morris is doing a fine job. Sidenote: Somebody tellDWJr to get "In Living Color 2" started. Damn, he looks just like hisdad. Oh, and for all the h8rs out there...the ratings are freakingfantastic for Fox. Booyah!

Borders on annoying, but Im still giving this girl a chance.
I tend to take a while when I write IMDb user reviews, because I takeplanning them seriously. Nevertheless I was glad to write another oneon an adult series, and this is one that I'm pleased to write about, although only partially because of the charm of Zooey Deschanel.Jessica "Jess" Day is a spunky, quirky, geeky young teacher who justcaught her boyfriend with another girl while she tried to surprise himby stripping naked in front of him. So, she breaks up with him andmoves to another apartment that she found on Craigslist. The thing is,she really hasn't changed too much since she was in Junior High School, and all three guys at her apartment are annoyed with her antics. Thoseguys are Bartender and equally jilted guy Nick Miller(Jake Johnson),corporate lawyer who thinks he's god's gift to women, Schmidt(MaxGreenfield), a former Coach of some kind(Damon Wayans, Jr.), andex-Latvian basketball team member, Winston(Lamorne Morris). Plenty hasbeen written about the sudden replacement of Damon Wayans Jr. withLamorne Morris, so there's not much that can be said... other than thefact that at least they didn't try to pull a Darren Stephens on us.There are already comparisons being made to another perky brunette whohad a sitcom around 1966(Hmm, let's see... diamonds, daisies,snowflakes,... Eh, it'll come to me.). The show and the main characterare plugged as being "adorkable," but I have to admit, I originallyfound her to be more "dork" than "adorable." In the first threeepisodes, her supposedly quirky personality was hard to tolerate atfirst. She sings out of nowhere, making up her own songs on the spot, watches sappy movies and sobs uncontrollably at them. Luckliy she hasat least one friend, Cece Meyers, a model played by the breathtakinglygorgeous Hannah Simone. This is yet another case where the secondbanana outshines the star. Luckily, not that much thanks to the bubblypersonality of Jess and the actress who plays her.
