NCIS Los Angeles Season Two Finale
One of the season finales I have been looking forward to turned in acompletely unexpected direction. One of the show's main ongoing plot lines is Callen's lineage. Lastyear we were left with questions about Callen's sister. We found outthat she was in fact murdered. Callen went to his sister's grave andfound a toy tin soldier. This flashed a recall memory of an older manwith a circular tattoo handing the toy soldier to him on the beach whenhe was a small boy.The season has come full circle, beginning with Hettie's resignation. This marked the entrance of Linda Florentine as the new satellitedirector. So everything is hush-hush, Hettie has gone rogue. Ipersonally love Hettie, as she reminds me of Yoda when he kickedserious sith butt in Phantom Menace. So Hettie is going around Praguetoting a 'message' for ComescuÂwhoever or whatever that is. She meansbusiness too, taking out two guys as a way to deliver her messageÂandthen she sits down for a spot of tea. Can you not see why I love thiswoman! I want to be Hettie when I grow up.This was the theme of the entire episode. Hettie's warpath, Cullentrying to find her, and Director Vance trying, albeit failing, toremain in control, as aptly demonstrated when all three agentsresigned. Then Deeks piped in saying he would quit if he could. When they finally track Hettie down, it is at a beach house. It is thehome of the Comescu family, headed by scary Momma Comescu. This iswhere we are all left scratching our heads and feeling very displeasedwe have to wait four months until we get some answers. Why? Well, firstwhen Callen arrives at the beach house he realizes it is the same beachwhere he received the tin soldier. Also we find out that Hettie createda death certificate for Callen, and is now presenting it and a video ofCallen's shooting three years ago as proof that he is in fact dead.Last, but certainly not least, when Momma Comescu asks why she shouldbelieve Hettie's claim. This is when we get pushed over the edge of thecliff Hettie steps forward, raises the sleeve of her shirt and revealsa tattoo identical to the one on the man Callen encountered years agoon the beach. The last line of the season, "Because we are family."And that is what I call a season finale!!Amy Romine BellaOnline's Prime Time TV Editorhttp://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art55564.asp

Looks promising
This is the very hyped spin-off to NCIS. It was good. More hits thanmisses. LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell play their parts like veterans.Character wise you'll notice differences and similarities between thisand NCIS obviously. There's a computer guru like Abby. There's apsychologist in the show where as in NCIS there isn't one. The mainchief, Hetty, is an old woman who seems to treat her agents like theirkids. In the first episode when Agent Callen (O'Donnell) arrives forhis day back to work, Hetty makes sure he has everything he needsincluding a new wardrobe!!! She is definitely unlike Gibbs in manyways. Gibbs would never pamper his agents to that level. Gibbs is moredirect and impatient. Hetty seems a bit more understanding. Hanna andCallen have a buddy buddy relationship in the tradition of Dinozzo andMcGee. I found O'Donnell and LL's chemistry to be right on the money.Perfect casting here. They are creating a spin-off show with a coupleof the same formulas from the original with an LA feeling. So far Ithink they've succeeded. You'll also notice differences in the way of how the organization dealswith cases. For the bulk of the pilot it was Callen and Hanna doing thebulk of the muscle for their investigation. Maybe this will change overtime.Story-wise the show seems to have a couple of stories to pursue. Callenstill hasn't gotten his moment of justice for the people that shot him.In the the pilot is about a Navy Officer whose gunned down by peoplewho are working for the drug cartel. There are a couple of twists tomake the outcome not seem so obvious. OK sure it's a story thatprobably has been repeated many times but then again NCIS has plenty ofroutine stories that have been done to death."Identity" introduces the main characters of the show. They establishO'Donnell and LL as the main stars. We get a taste of the supportingcharacters but not enough obviously to let us know what makes them actthe way they do. We also get a few characters making cameos for theshow like Director Vance.Overall, this so far is a nice spin-off. "Identity" was entertaining. There's a lot of possibilities here. As long as the show has characterdevelopment and make stories interesting this could end up like NCIShaving a long run.

How is this NCIS?
Having recently discovered NCIS here in the UK from series 1 episode 1- total accident but a fortunate one - I was curious about the spin-offseries NCIS: LA.I have enjoyed other spin off series such as CSI:Miami and CSI:NYbecause they were different but also engaging and interesting in theircharacterisation. As a result I am disappointed, so far, with NCIS:LA.There is no real discernible link to the ideals of the parent series.NCIS is about a team of investigators who work together from a centralgovernment office (that HQ is beyond belief). They investigate casesrelating to a naval/ marine central core. They investigate according toa recognisable procedure of investigation. In NCIS:LA what is the naval link apart from LL Cool J being a SEALpreviously? What cases have they investigated that have a navalpremise? (Recognising a robbery by SEALs came AFTER the crime wasreferred and shooting a Korean on a jet-ski isn't naval). Gibbs is theonly naval officer in the original but at least he is in charge! Hettieis ballsy and funny - but a naval officer? Rosa Klebb in From RussiaWith Love maybe (Commander Bond). As I said earlier I have only watched the original for about 3 months,so cannot be judged a series snob - cos the watchers from 2003 wouldsay I was a late discoverer and not relevant, so what do I know - I amwatching two new series from a recent stand point. NCIS is quality,CIS:LA is poor. Cross over episodes and cameos by original charactersdon't work. It would have been better served with an original titlerather than trading on the parent series for a core audience (beyondChris O'Donnell and LL Cool J fans).I've said my piece, if you can be bothered to respond please do.Otherwise, don't bother I can't blame you!

The show is empty without Hetty
There's something special about the Hetty character - she is the centerof the show in a unique way. The other characters look to her, respecther, protect her...for such a tiny woman, she packs a mightypunch...strength and wisdom and courage...the show needs her. Shebrings the team together, she brings cohesiveness and, despite herprofessionalism, she brings warmth. She hasn't been in the show for abit and I know that I, and many others I've spoken to, just don't findthe show as compelling without Hetty. The other characters are strongand well played, also essential but they are a team because Hettycenters them. We know this is only fiction but it's great fiction. Ihope they bring Hetty back full time - she has everyone's back and theyhave hers...and each other's.

Coined, patterned, stereotyped, predictable
All the clichés are laid out in predictable form. Typical US, patternedTV. Lines seem taken pretty directly from has been shows. You couldpredict the end and all the story lines within the first 5 min. Watchif you like MOR shows with a bit of eye candy. Characters fitstereotypical roles with completely patterned positions in the teams.Definitely not as good as the original. Have a look at a video aboutthe real NCIS and neither show has much in common with the real deal.At least Gibbs walks the talk and Abby offers inspiration to themarginalized in society. LA is a pretty weak setting for the gutsypotential of this kind of show. The LA version has all the integrity ofan LA fashion show.

A Good Successor to the NCIS name
I watched the crossover (call it the NCIS:LA premiere) last seasonbetween the two NCIS casts and really enjoyed it. Chris O'Donnell hasgrown up and yet, there is still that juvenile offender on the loosequality to him. Teaming him up with LL Cool J was a stroke of genius. They play off of each other so well. Pulling in Oscar winner Linda Huntto play Hetty was a masterstroke. This show is well cast and thewriting is solid. I have to disagree with other reviewers about AdamJamal Craig and Daniela Ruah. I think they put in very solidperformances as supporting team members. And Barrett Foa is perfect asthe somewhat geeky technical assistance. All in all, a fun show towatch. I look forward to it marking as many seasons as it's forerunner,NCIS.

Two different universes
I just watched 10/13/09's NCIS and NCIS:LA back to back. These twoshows weren't separated at birth, they were born in entirely differentdimensions.NCIS (and earlier, JAG) showed a terrific understanding of morality andhonor. Today's NCIS episode explored the concepts of duty, doing theright thing, obeying legal rules of engagement, and the consequences offollowing immoral orders. This was followed by NCIS:LA, in which our two heroes jimmy their wayinto an innocent civilian's home because they "fear she MAY be introuble," and then take the opportunity to plant listening devices allover it with no warrants in evidence anywhere (she wasn't even asuspect). Excuse me, what happened to propriety, legality, constitutional rights? The characters on NCIS:LA continually act as ifthese things just don't exist. It gets tiresome to watch the two main characters act as if everyunlocked front door constitutes "probable cause" and an invitation forthem to intrude with guns drawn. Maybe that's life in LA, but inArizona, Missouri, Virginia, or Georgia, these guys would be red jellywithin a week.I was ready to complain to Bellisarius (who in the past has beenexemplary as far as getting this stuff right) but then I discoveredNCIS:LA is done by a separate production company. Let me tell you, itshows. This show does to military honor what pornography does to sex.

NCIS Fans You will not be disappointed
I was a huge fan of CSI: for years, so naturally, I was excited by thespin-offs. And, like most true CSI: fans, I was sorely disappointed. That's not the case here. While NCIS: LA is not as"investigatively-oriented" as its original, it is still an intriguingand adventurous show. The lack of forensic investigation is easilyexplained away in the NCIS introduction show, stating that the LA teamis more "Special Ops". The show has its unique characters, many ofwhich seem to have a similar back story as the original - Callen'smysterious background mirrors the shaded past of Gibbs, Eric and Domthe techies are reminiscent of McGee, Kensi is (trying to be) as toughas Ziva. Even Hetty has an odd and enlightening past, much like Ducky. The only thing missing is the quick wit of Tony. It was very easy forme to become addicted to this show. And I hope it is the same for otherNCIS fans out there!

Slow start but has gotten better
NCIS:Los Angeles was something I wasn't expecting to like. At first, itwas rather rocky, with some sluggishly paced and unoriginal stories, clichés in the writing and characters that didn't come into their shellfor a bit. Over time though, while it is not as good as the originalseries NCIS:Naval Crimimal Investigative Service, it has gotten better. The series is handsome to look at, and the music is memorable andclever. The writing, pace and stories have gotten better and moreinteresting, and the characters more absorbing. When it comes to theacting, Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J, two actors that I initiallythought "no way is this going to work" are surprisingly good, andcasting Linda Hunt I agree as the show's most interesting character todate is a masterstroke.Overall, far from perfect but over time it has gotten better after arocky start. 7/10 Bethany Cox

ncis los angeles not so much fun
Don't care for the cast, don't care for the plots, it's nowhere nearit's predecessor (NCIS) with regard to taste and glamour; it just seemsslapped together with a lot of shoot-em-up and very little content ofinterest; one exception is the older woman who dresses people andserves tea; she's interesting at least... I'm actually watching theshow as I type. People are shooting at each other some more - no onegot hit, but then, who cares? Oh, now Abby (from the real NCIS) ismaking a cameo appearance; would that her fellow cast members wouldshow up also - at least they have some defined personality. Please, 86this show and give us something hipper.

Horrible Crap
I cannot stand the original NCIS, so I had absolutely zero expectationswhen I watched NCIS LA. I think just about everything negative aboutthis show has already been written, so I'm not going to rehash all theother points that have already been made. I did however want to add onething I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: Just what is the dealwith the G. Callen "I don't know my own first name" subplot? How thehell do you become a federal agent without a first name? Did they skipthat in the hiring process? Of all the shows that need spin offs, NCISdefinitely not one of them. How does a show like this even get pickedup?

Best New Show of the 20092010 Season
While this show isn't exactly like the original NCIS, I stillabsolutely love it. There is still that dynamic of banter. Instead ofTony/Kate(or Ziva)/ McGee, it's now Sam/Callen. While I do think thismight have been better set in San Diego, I still like the premise. The investigation is quite different, but expected. They are not partof a MCRT, like the original NCIS, but rather OSP. They are undercoveragents, more CIA then FBI, if you will. Their technique will bedifferent. They don't wear badges, or ID themselves, because OSP'doesn't exist'. This is referenced many times, especially when a storyof their case comes on the news on TV, and Callen mentions that theynever get credit, it's always the FBI or LAPD, and Hetti tells him thatthey can't get credit, because they don't exist.I love that there is a hidden past for Callen, much in the way thatGibbs's bast was hidden for the first three years. And having DirectorVance and Abby make short crossovers is excellent. While JAG ended justa few years after NCIS started, I would love to see more crossoverswith the OSP and the MCRT.For the people that have commented that this show is not a Bellisarioproduction, perhaps you should realize that the original NCIS hasdumped him as well. He is now simply a creator, but NOT an executiveproducer (and hasn't been for a few years).

What could they have been thinking?
I'm a fan of the original to which my husband & I got hooked a fewseasons ago when Ziva was already a main character and Jenny was stilldirector. We've now watched most of the previous episodes and aredeeply attached to the screwball comedy aspect and ambiguous sexualtension between the character that give the show its special flavor.NCIS-LA has none of that, nor does it have the terrific roles forwomen!!! How can no one have mentioned that? I don't think the actingis bad (and some of the guys are endearing) but the women's roles areeither terminally bland or weird. As to the lack of Naval/Marine Corps stuff that is the heart & soul ofthe original, balancing the comic side with seriousness and commitment, others have said it all. I was OK with an LA version (at least it wouldlet all that California landscape out of the closet - eucalyptus andmountain ranges in DC - I don't think so...) but it's just not theleast bit well done.

We had a good run
I feel like I'm in an episode of the Twilight Zone when I see that thisshow is a success. Could hardly sit through two entire episodes, perhaps the worst hour long drama to ever find it's way on television.Using the NCIS name (a pretty weak show in its own right) this schlocksomehow managed to become a hit. Chris O'Donnell, Linda Hunt, and LLCool J? Honestly? This, my friends, is the nadir of our society. IMDbsays I need a few more lines, so let's talk about the episode whereO'Donnell's character has his cover blown, so he buys a plain blackbaseball cap to do what he does best (according to Mr. Cool J) andbecome a "ghost." He then proceeds to pretend being a criminal andmurders a few goons, then wrestles with some demons in an attempt tofind out his true identity, throws protocol out the window, yada yadayada, good guys win and get the ever important nano disk, micro chip, flash drive, whatever they were looking for. This is heavy stuff, folks. Do yourself a favor, watch any one of the far more worthy showsout there - Real Housewives of NJ, Jersey Shore, Cake Boss, Flavor ofLove 4, Bret Michaels: Rock of Love Van, Stargate: Miami, Saved by theBell: The New Class, My So Called Life, Boy Meets World, Duckman,America's Funniest Home Videos, the O'Reilly Factor, etc. You'rewelcome.

A sorry piece of you know what
No leader, except for the land of oz dwarf crossed with Harry Potter. What kind of a joke is this? Why does it even carry the name NCIS? I'drather watch Gunsmoke or Adam 12 reruns. Nothing on this show will grabyou--it just doesn't have any pull. The characters as well as the plotsare mediocre, so I can't tell if the actors are any good--but theacting reminds me of the other big LA spin off commercial product--soapoperas. Bland is being too kind in description. I can see no relationto NCIS. It looks like they work in some sort of dressing room orboutique which caters to wannabees from Universal or somewhere. Sorryto be so negative, but that's how it is. CSI, on the other hand--bothMiami and NY are better than the original. This show should be yankednext week. Try NCIS San Diego, maybe... or I dunno, Kennebunkport.

It isnt bad but it isnt NCIS
The biggest flaw they made with this show is calling it NCIS. Theywanted to cash on the success of the original series and give the showa boost in it's early viewer rating. This was a big mistake. Thebiggest selling point of the original show isn't the crime solving, their are loads of shows that do that; it isn't the army setting or thecombo of the two. The single biggest selling point is the interactionof the characters with each other. It just works so well. Any show withNCIS in it's name gives the expectation of having a Gibs, a Ducky andall the others. In this show the characters work well. But not on thelevel that NCIS does and so it's a disappointment. If it was given anyother name you would have found it entertaining and would have watchedit, instead you are now constantly comparing it to the original and itfails that comparison. My biggest advice: Watch this show first and then watch the originalNCIS and you'll probably like em both.

Disgrace to the NCIS name....
I'm glad to see the other comments here  because according to all themagazines and websites, NCIS: LA is supposedly the hottest show thisseason. After having seen three episodes, I think the only reason Iwould continue to watch it is to ridicule the poor acting and horriblewriting  a la, Mystery Science Theater.I've been watching NCIS from day one and absolutely love the charactersand their relationships and the writing. I can relate to thesecharacters because they remind me of my brothers, my former roommates Âthey have believable interactions and they have characteristics thatmake me want to care about them. Even Abby (who is a bit over the topas far as dress code in a work place) is someone you would trust. Theother characters are believable as military/law enforcement  by theirdress and behavior. NCIS story lines have a mystery about them, a plot, and we see a lot of problem solving, evidence gathering and Duckyexplanations during the show.I know that NCIS: LA is trying to be its own show, but seriously, thenplease do not associate it with NCIS! Because all it is, as others havesaid, is just a Hollywood macho man police show. LL and Chris are likewalking ads for Abercrombie and Fitch, nothing more. There is noinvestigation, and other than a few vague references - no militaryconnection. There is no strong main character (like Gibbs). Hetty will*never* be that, and in fact her motherly clucking around is annoying, and I will never be convinced she was ever some secret agent with anincredibly mysterious past. LL and Chris seem to be sharing the leadrole, but neither one of them really do much, but well what do they do?The profiler/psychologist guy is simply irritating. He tries too hardto be a psychological know-it-all, to show off his Doctorate, eventhough he points out things that are common sense. Then there are thetwo others  the young agent Dom, who is a total wuss and looks readyto cry at any minute. He fails to 'predict' that a suspect was going toget killed  blames himself, gets all balled up about it internally, then psych-man runs to his emotional rescue  but then its OK, becauseby the days end young agent is all better now. Sorry, unbelievablestory line. Then there is the girl who was brought in because she washot  she adds nothing more - why else would the team spend more timeprepping her boobs before she posed as a super hacker instead ofactually telling her what she would say/do as a hacker?Don't get me started on the unrealistic office and the giganticoverused touch screen they use  we get it, they are hip, andtechno-savvy and in LA. But this show doesn't actually DO anything.

This show is a joke and embarrasses the original NCIS
After watching this show twice and trying to watch it twice more I findI can not understand how a show so stupid can be allowed on T.V.Have we stooped so low that the people producing this unrealistic pieceof trash think we will watch anything. It is doubly tragic to thinkthat a quality show like "Without a Trace" was canceled to possiblyallow space for this idiotic waste of time.I absolutely do not understand what this show is trying to convey tous. Why a clandestine type building that is an embarrassment to agovernment agency, a head of department that is out of a book offiction, a buff agent who I think was hired just to show off his body.In fact I feel most of the cast was chosen to enhance the stupidity ofwhat the industry feels they can subject us to.I have never in my life ever wished failure on anyone or anything and Idon't feel I need to now. This show should self destruct on its own,and the sooner the better

As stupid as mass-produced CSI-clone TV can get
I sometimes "test" TV-show concepts for fun and this has got to be oneof the stupidest shows ever. They arrive at a crime scene all the characters have dialogue bystanding in a circle saying one line each clockwise. They get back tooffice using large holographic mega TV-displays with drag and dropfunctions never seen in reality. The "plots" evolve either by themgetting access to info in their mega-computer or by letting thecomputer nerd genius in the series provide them a new clue. This is show might be the prime example (at least from what I haveseen) of lazy screen writing on mainstream network TV crime showstoday.Do not, I repeat do not waste your time with this! play tennis, throwdarts on the HBO schedule or whatever

Very poor
If this had been a standalone program, I may have given it a 2 or 3(actually I wouldn't have signed up to give it anything), but regardingthis as a good spin-off of NCIS is a joke.I gave NCIS:LA a decent shot before forming my opinion, coming from abackground of watching all NCIS to date I felt I had to. I was hookedon the original NCIS well before its fourth episode (I've seen 4 LA),and can safely say that there is very little in common between the 2.I'm not fond of any of the characters, their stories do not interestme.Perhaps the thing I detest the most about LA, are the cross-overepisodes, especially those which shed light on the characters in theoriginal. I will not watch LA to gain insight to NCIS, and I reallyhope LA doesn't contaminate the original show more than it already has.The thing I love about the original NCIS are the characters, theirdevelopment and interaction with each other. NCIS:LA may develop itsown in time, but I hope it doesn't get the chance to do so.NCIS is too good to ruin.
