Boy meets girl. Boy dies for girl. Boy craves human flesh. Hilarity ensues.

My Boyfriend's Back is easily one of the most clever satires of highschool life I've ever seen. On the lines of Heathers and Clueless (Theearly-to-mid-90s were great, huh?) this movie mocks group mentality aswell as the groups themselves in such a genuine way that the maincharacters aren't two dimensional. The dialogs is amazingly funny,especially when the script treats Johnny Dingle's posthumous nature asjust some flaw, like acne or bad hair. Look for appearances by MatthewMcConaughey and a pre-Lost Matthew Fox. They play pretty convincinghigh school students. Edward Herrman and Mary Beth Hurt are great asthe parents. (Hurt is significantly less creepy than in Parents,another Balaban movie.) The look of this movie, with its comic bookcontext, is prefect, but the writing is the biggest asset to thistragically underrated comedy.

ABC Movie of Week different movie

My Boyfriend's Back stars Sandy Duncan, Judith Light, Jill Eikenberry as 3 middle schoolers with 60s number 1 pop hit. Jill Eikenberry the lead singer quits at their peak of fame (fearing they are a one hit wonder) and they disappear into their separate adult obscurities. Sandy Duncan as a self-sacrificing wife and loving mother who appreciates her memories of middle school friendship, maintains contact via Christmas letters to the other two, neither of whom ever responds. Judith Light as a singer in a bowling alley cafe, making a career out her one hit from middle school. Jill Eikenberry as VP of a major cosmetics company who pretends the 60s never happened, and never responds to overtures from her childhood friends. 1984 ABC TV wants them to reunite for a back to the 60s special called My Boyfriend's Back. During rehearsals, the women revisit and resolve middle school jealousies, insecurities, fantasies. 60's music with original musicians: Mary Wells, Peggy March I Love Him, Jerry Lewis' son Gary This Diamond Ring, and the trio singing My Boyfriend's Back. Friday Night Fun

What an entertaining film for the masses, full of comedy and mystery.While this movie is intended for a younger audience, it contains enoughhumor for all to enjoy. If you are expecting a serious thriller thatwill draw you to the edge of your seat, keep away. The humor in thisfilm arises from its complete lack of realism, as the plot in itself isas far fetched as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. However, this movie is farmore original and entertaining. If you enjoy finding humor where othersmay see stupidity, and are in the mood for a laid back "scary" moviefull of gory comedy, then you will find this film a perfect fit foryou.

A Bomb of a Great Movie!!!!

I am a person that doesn't look at how good a Movie does at the BoxOffice before I see a Movie. And, I must say that if your looking for aMovie to watch on a Rainy day, this would be it. The Movie tells thestory of a Teenager who will do anything to get the Girl of his dreams,even if it IS coming back from the Dead. You would imagine that thiswould be an Adventure, well; it is. I originally saw this Movie when Iwas 13 at my Great Uncle's house. Since then it has been one of myFavorite Movies. I gave this Movie 9 out of 10 because it is a Moviethat is both funny and entertaining; even though it was a Box OfficeBomb.

And As You Can See, Hes Got An Axe In His Head...

This black comedy is not great art. It's silly, cheesy, and totally ridiculous....and I like it!!. I'm always a sucker for stupid B movie films like this. It's fun and funny in a really stupid way. Andrew Lowery stars as a kid who has the hots for a girl. In an attempt to show off to her, he gets killed by a store robber. He comes back as a zombie and begins to live life as if nothing ever happened. Of course, there are certain body parts that fall off and stuff, but that's to be expected from a rotting corpse. There are a few jokes and gags in here that are genuinely funny, in a sophmoric way. The best come from chacrter actor Austin Pendleton as a nutty doctor. The rest of the cast include : Paul Dooley, Edward Herrmann, Cloris Leachman, and Mary Beth Hurt. It's a juvenile comedy with a somewhat delightful and appealing presence. If your into that sort of thing, then you will probably enjoy this. Otherwise, stay far away.

A great movie! )

Okay, I first saw this movie when I was around 8 or 9. My mom showed itto me (she kind of has a twisted humor.. Haha...) Anyways, I had alwaysremembered it as being funny. That was about 5 or 6 years ago, so Ibarely remembered anything about the movie. Recently though, I had beenthinking about it. I was DYING to see it, and since they had it like,nowhere, I decided to order it off of Amazon.I watched it again about a few weeks ago when I got the DVD, and it wasas great a movie as I remembered it! It's a hilarious movie! (Well tome anyways) A lot of people don't like it because of the towns reactionto Johnny being back from the dead, and how normal it seems to them.But thats whats FUNNY about it. It's the ridiculousness of it all thatI love. Plus, it has some of the best one-liners of all time! So,overall, this movie is fantastic! If your looking for an Oscar-worthyperformance, don't watch this movie. The director knew he wasn't goingto be getting awards for it, so he had a bit of fun with it. That'swhat I love. So watch it! You won't be disappointed.

File under Will never get the credit it deserves

Honestly, I can't stress enough that this movie, while not particularly good on the surface, is much smarter than it appears. The entire cast acts under the hazy impression that rising zombies aren't that out of the ordinary. Seeing a high-schooler chastise his undead friend for eating another student with the line "Colleges look at this sort of thing!" is indicative of the type of humor at work here. Take it for what it's worth. No, this isn't Oscar material, but 20 years from now, this will be a cult classic. I laughed all the way through at the concept of a zombie's (living) parents gleefully assisting in his cannabalism. But hey, that's just me.

Extremely melow, and dramatic

Very good, but not so good movie. I guess since time has gone by technology has expanded so much it makes this movie look like nothing. But the end of the mopvie is good and I was wondering , in the end of the prom the song they danced to, who sang it and do you have the soundtrack to the movie. I have ben searching for it everywhere.

I loved it

Yes the story is a romantic comedy. I'm hopeless, what can I say? But Iloved the movie. I don't remember Rene Z in the movie though. The wholeZombie back to go to the dance with the girl of his dreams kind of dumbbut the romantic aspect is beautiful. I didn't like the popular kid'sside kick, he was ugly and dumb. Then there is the repeated theme ofthe family that seems to be the target of food for Zombie Johny. Butoverall this is one of those, "I'm alone on a Friday night and snuggledin my bed for a movie", movie. The song "Holding on for Dear Life" isreally beautiful. I think that is what really got me at the end. Again,if you're a hopeless romantic, and are in the mood to stay indoors andsnuggle with a movie, get this. You won't be disappointed.

funny and well-written with lots of winning moments

I thought it was hilarious, a bit graphic for the extremelysqueamish, but really well-done. The script was well-writtenwith lots of fondness for the characters. Traci Lind was astand-out as the class beauty trying to get a grasp of aweirdsituation. The way the townspeople adapt to a zombie intheirmidst is another great thing about this very funny andwell-done movie.

My Boyfriends Back

This review is from: My Boyfriend's Back (DVD) This movie was absolutely hallarious! I was about 10 or 11 when I saw this movie for the first time, so it wasn't exactly the way I remember it. But you all know how it is when you see a movie when you are little and remember it being really scary or completely different when you watch it when your older. For some reason I thought that this movie was about a boy who started dating a girl and they fell in love. Some way or another he ended up dying and coming back to life, and his body parts started falling off, lol. And they just wanted to wait until they could go the dance together before he went and crossed over. Well that is not at all how it happend, lol. It is about a boy who has this huge crush on a girl and thought that by being really brave and protecting her from a robber that she would accept his invitation to go to the dance with him. Well in an altercation to him protecting her from the robber he gets shot and dies. Then he comes back to life and for some reason she can't resist him and absoulutely has to go to the dance with him. Well his body parts do start to fall off and for him to last long enough to go to the dance he has to eat living flesh. So, it happened a little differently than I remember, but it was still a great movie and had my sister and I laughing up a storm. Especially since everyone in this town acted like it was totally normal for people to come back from the dead! It was nuts, lol.All in all this is a great movie and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good laugh from old movies. The picture quality was great and the product its self came in great condition. I would definately order this from amazon.

I was smiling a lot during the movie...

I was smiling a lot during the movie but there was no roaring laughter.The funniest part was his parents. The perfect couple decent, friendly andhis loving mom puts a corpse in the fridge if he wants a snack. A niceteenage comedy with some unexpected twists. I bought the film as a usedlaserdisc for $5 and I think that's worth it.

a must-see horrible movie

first of all, this is not a good movie. however, it has some of the bestlines i've ever heard. and the whole "dead guy as a satire on societaldiscrimination" was great and probably not easy to do. if you appreciatethe stupid/funny/strange, then this is a good choice. plus, it has austinpendleton, who just rocks.
