Dull as reading a phonebook cover to cover

This move was super boring. We took our 10 year old and 7 year old andthey thought it was dull. Nothing ever really happens and the script isnothing special. The movie is built around people talking and doingnothing much more. The movie was unprofitable and only made it budgetback and it didn't even cover its marketing expenses. The writer has notalent at all. The actors look bored. Don't waste your cash on thisshould be a made for TV movie stinker. I just wonder how these thingsget made. We never laughed out loud. You knew exactly where the storywas going to go. The focused their whole budget on set design. Youngkids need some energy and this joke of a writer/director couldn'tcreate and kind of pacing at all. The movie seemed long and all of thekids watching it were not paying attention because there was only thesliver of a plot. I would hire this talentless writer to write aweather report. His family must be laughing behind his back.

Wanted it to be good - it wasnt

This movie should have been good I was so looking forward to it. Theyhad an attractive cast and beautiful locations. How could they gowrong? It's pretty bad. The premise is familiar but still usually works- 3 American girls go to Europe and fall into mischief and romance. Theproblem is there is very little romance and very little humor. Thescreenplay is badly written without amusing situations or a build up ofromance. The dialog is not witty or charming. Hardly any laughs. Thedirecting is bad and choppy. Scenes just seem to jump from one toanother abruptly. Leighton Meester is a good actress on Gossip Girl buthere she seems to have just limited expressions. Katie Cassidy isslightly miscast a bit too together looking to be what she plays. Thecasting is strange. Selena Gomez looking like a British heiress? Notonly does she not look the part her accent and acting in her 2characters are not different enough. The male leads Cory Monteith whois a bit of a limited actor usually and Pierre Boulanger don't havemuch to work with. Only saving grace the locations and scenery arespectacular and it has a very on location feel. Overall: See if it youare a die hard fan of one or more of them but prepared to bedisappointed.

very entertaining

i found this film to be entertaining and funny . i went to see it withthe least expectations .selena Gomez is a good actress and she broughtback the times when we used to admire teen actresses and take themseriously . actresses like Christina Ricci and Brooke shields when theywere teens . there are few deep messages in the film . about honesty ,money . love and friendship .also i would like to say that thecinematography was wonderful and it was a big promotion for MonteCarloarts with funny absurd situations like some cultural differencefunny moments in France and how some hotels aren't up to standardsthere when they are being advertised in the best way possible . . butthe way it develops the story is admiring. all in all i recommend thisfilm for anyone anytime . it is a feel good funny romantic flick .

A sweet and romantic film that, nevertheless, lacks sufficient energy and comedy girls, however, will enjoy it

Grace (Selena Gomez) lives in Texas, works in a diner, and has justearned her high school diploma. Since receiving a snow globe of Pariswhen she was young, Grace has been saving money to go on a weeklongvacation to France. Now that graduation is over, she and her closefriend, Emma (Katie Cassidy) have the tickets and plan to take off. But, wait. Grace's parents (Brett Cullen and Andie McDowell), newlymarried, decide that older stepsister, Meg (Leighton Meister) must goalong to keep everyone safe. Neither Grace or Meg is happy with thisarrangement but decide it will be preferable to no trip at all. Once inParis, the tour and the hotel are far short of expectations for all ofthe girls, causing disappointment. But, the trio of gals has a chanceeavesdrop with a young British aristocrat, Cordelia (also Selena Gomez)that changes their vacation. Grace discovers that Cordelia is breakingcommitments she made for a fund raising in Monte Carlo and goingundercover for a few days. Thus, an opportunity arises for Grace tostep into Cordelia's shoes, for they resemble identical twins. Oncelanding in Monaco, the girls are treated like royalty, with fabuloushotel accommodations and a closet full of designer clothes. Holding herbreath, Grace finds that no one suspects that she is an impostor, noteven the handsome son of the charity's director. He serves as her guideand "date". Emma, too, finds herself the object of affection for thelocal guys, although she is practically engaged to her boyfriend, Owen, back in Texas. Finally, reserved Meg also comes out of her shell whenshe meets a dashing Australian tourist. Thus, for a few days, it is aslice of "royal heaven" for the vacationers. But, will the deception bediscovered and what will be the consequences if it is? This is a lovelylooking film with a beautiful, talented young star, Gomez. A naturalperformer with a sweet-and-saucy air, she makes the most of her duelroles. Cassidy, Meister, and all of the other cast members do nicework, too. Naturally, the costumes and sets are quite lovely. But, andits huge issue, the script doesn't contain nearly enough comedy orcleverness to sustain a complete film. The premise, yes, is good butthe execution is lacking. Then, too, the direction doesn't help matterswith its complete dirth of energy. Therefore, the film plods along andhas some boring moments. Thankfully, the finale makes a splash but itsalmost too late. Girls, young and old, will like the film and patientlyoverlook the dull bits. But, any others forced to watch it will bescowling up a storm.

harmless entertainment

A young woman takes her dream vacation to Paris with her best friend and her step-sister. The trip doesn't go as planned, and then she is mistaken for a wealthy heiress. The three go on to connect with hunky guys and vacation in luxury. In the end, they may learn something about themselves. This is a harmless film that just about anyone can enjoy. It is predictable, and does not contain any great dramatic moments, but it has an attractive young cast and the movie's target audience of teenage girls will find it entertaining. I would recommend this one if you are in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment.

A delightful treat! Fun in the friend and romance category.

Monte Carlo was fun, fun and more fun! I loved this movie from the start. As Grace (Selena Gomez), Emma (Katie Cassidy) and Meg (Leighton Meester), race around in Paris then head off to Monte Carlo on a whim, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. As a graduation present from her parents, Grace receives a trip to London, but that's not all. Grace's parents are also generously sending her best friend Emma and her step-sister Meg along on the trip. The excitement soon dies down once they get to Paris and later end up with sore feet in a seedy hotel room. They decide to book with a tour group and that is when all the fun begins. At first Emma races around ridiculously in her high heeled shoes on the tour as Grace tries to keep the peace between her friend and step-sister. After being left behind by the fast-paced tour group, the girls enter an expensive hotel. It is at this hotel that Grace's looks match exactly to the likes of a high class wealthy lady staying at the same hotel. Soon Grace is being waited on hand and foot and all the action begins. Anyone that has been on a vacation for the first time or to a new destination for the first time can relate to this film. I could relate with this film as I had a similar experience traveling with new friends for the first time to a new destination. Just as in this film you have different personalities thrown together and crazy experiences going on and then there are the boys. Finding love in another country is just plain exciting and so romantic. Monte Carlo has this and so much more. I give this movie 5 stars and recommend it to all you girls out there looking for a movie that includes fun, finding true friendship and romance all wrapped up in a pretty package. This movie, however, is not just a chick-flick. My husband watched the movie with me and he too laughed with me from the start.

The Vidiot Reviews...

Monte CarloWhile travelling abroad, it's important for Americans to remember thatwhen in trouble, they can always get help at the nearest, bombed-out,US embassy. However, the three Yankees in this romantic-comedy are the ones causingthe trouble. When her stepsister, Meg (Leighton Meester), compromises her and herfriend's Paris vacation, Grace (Selena Gomez) and Emma (Katie Cassidy)try to make the best of it.When their tour turns out to be a drag, however, they ditch into ahotel where Grace encounters her exact double, an heiress (SelenaGomez). After overhearing the socialite's secret travel arrangements, Graceassumes her identity and takes full advantage of her scheduled trip toMonte Carlo. While it follows the footsteps of other worldly girl movies, MonteCarlo differs from the bunch by basing its love stories around socialclass.Furthermore, it proves that identity theft is only bad if the victimhas massive debt. Better than expected )

I almost didn't watch the movie because I saw the reviews of othershere on IMDb. In the end I decided to try it anyway and was pleasantlysurprised. Sure, the story has been done before, and in the end it maynot be the most realistic, but that's not why you should want to watchthis movie anyway. It's a happy, feel-good movie about following yourdreams that, when you finish watching it, leaves you with a smile onyour face. I recommend this to anyone with a bit of extra time who justwants to watch a relaxing, cheerful movie like me (a 21 year old girlXD) or for anyone who wants a nice, clean movie to watch for or withtheir children. Enjoy!

Its simply great.

Today, there aren't many famous role models for little girls, but Selena Gomez is definitely one of the few. This is a great movie. It's good for all ages. Anywhere from a 7-8 year old all the way to an 80 year old, will LOVE this movie. I'm 16 and I loved it!

A trio of delightful lead performances give it passable quality.

More often than not, I found myself wanting to like Monte Carlo morethan I actually did. It's not it's a terrible movie, but I found myselfunderwhelmed, mainly by the screenplay. It's full of charming moments, and some really interesting narratives and characters, but I found itto be a bit uneven, derivative bordering on tedious, and a bitoverlong. I certainly don't think it's a one note story, but it stilldoesn't break any new ground, and even under developed.Still, the soft spot in me can't help but give this movie a passinggrade, if only for the trio of lead performances. I will admit that Iam a fan of the works by Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and KatieCassidy, so whoever came up with the idea to put all three of them in amovie together is a genius. The three of them share a terrific, irresistible chemistry that deserves a lot better than the moviethey're in, with the best performance of the bunch, I'll say, belongingto miss Meester.Like I said, I'll give it a passing grade, but if you're looking for atruly great rom-com, this sadly isn't it.**1/2 out of ****

Surprisingly entertaining

For a mindless teeny-bopper movie, I was impressed with this. It isn't exactly amazing cinema, but it's definitely a fun watch!

A Quasi-Romantic Comedy Film in Monte Carlo

Overall, I find Monte Carlo entertaining with all its funny antics. Butit didn't quite meet my expectations -- what with the half-bakedaffluence of the setting, its formulaic and hard-to-believe plot, andthe love teams that didn't have that tickling sensation one wassupposed to get when watching romantic films. The plot is superficial, but it is a romantic comedy anyway so it's supposed to be light inorder to serve its purpose of making the audience laugh and quiver.IfNicole Kidman and Julia Roberts, who were the original choicesaccording to IMDb.com, starred in the movie instead of the youngercast, I probably would've enjoyed the movie more.

Silly, and pretty but not as much fun as other similar outings

Unlike some IMDb reviewers I can watch a movie and understand whatdemographic it is for and enjoy it for that demographic and review itfairly. Obviously Monte Carlo was not written for my demographic butthere has been plenty of "Disney" type pre-teen "Chick flicks" that Ihave thoroughly enjoyed for what they are. Monte Carlo doesn't reallyfit that bill very well. The movie has a decent, well liked, andpopular lead cast, lovely European locations, a funny comedic plot butnone of it really takes off. I would have liked to have seen moreslapstick laugh out moments and better chemistry with the cast wouldhave made this far better than what it was. I think I expected the filmto fit the demographic of pre-teen...12-14 year olds but instead, atbest, this is made for 10-12 year olds.Selena Gomez plays her dual roles in the film as down to earth likableGrace, and the uppity, snotty, entitled Cordelia. She actually does asolid job in both roles but she is one of the people I expected morelaughs from and that never really happens. Katie Cassidy plays Grace'sbest friend. I thought she sort of didn't fit in the cast very well. Ilike Cassidy in certain roles but this one just didn't fit her and shedidn't have great chemistry with Gomez. Leighton Meester is okay asGomez's step-sister. Meester is a great actress but I don't think hercharacter has much depth and she comes across as very unlikable for themost part. The supporting cast including Andie MacDowell and CoryMonteith are okay in their roles but far from noticeable or stand outin their performances. Even the romantic story lines are rather weakbecause the male romantic leads are completely forgettable.I would imagine that young girls will still get a kick out of the filmbut it could have been a whole lot more given the positive aspects ofthe film. I would say that the film's lack of impression was due toco-writer and director Thomas Bezucha lack of experience but he did anexcellent job on his previous film "The Family Stone" but I still thinkthis wasn't necessarily the right project for him because I think thescript lacked real depth and the execution of the film lacked punch. While there are some fun moments and some amusing laughs, overall thisone is definitely avoidable. There are just too many better films forthe same demographic. 6/10

3 Cinderellas

Grace (Selena Gomez), a small town Texas girl has been saving up for 4 years through High School to go to Paris. She is excited about going with her friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) who seems to be a bit of a floozy- shoes she says, "If the ain't hurtin' the ain't helpin'. However Dad wants her to take along her step sister Meg (Leighton Meester)who is not exactly welcomed as she looks too much like Kristen Stewart with the blood drained out of her and acts about the same. The three are in Paris having a miserable time because their tour is inanely rushing them. It isn't long before they become separated. Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, British heiress and the 3 Cinderellas end up in Monte Carlo, dressed up and going to a ball. At this point the plot is pretty well established. The acting was less than expected, as was the script. Comedy is very light. This is perhaps a young teen female only movie. Originally Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts were supposed to star in this film, but the producers wanted a younger cast...guess how that worked out. No bad language, so sex, no nudity. Drop the girls off and go.
