Former critic reformed on a maternalchild level...

Now look. All you haters need to chill out. I know why you don't likeit/did not like it/whatever. Please listen to why I've given it a goodreview.I'm basically tired of Pixar. I'm tired of their bloated merchandisingand advertising and I'll tell anyone who will listen to either rent HowTo Train Your Dragon or go and see this very personal little movie.Remember how the toys in TS3 almost... well, you know. Yeah, well hereit's moms. It's a little boy's mother, supporter, lifeline... and Iwill tell you right now that more kid's movies need to be like thisone. It's a good, honest movie that doesn't stand a chance because ofgimmicky advertising and forgettable, in-your-face motion captureanimation.Yes, I'm looking at you animated movie marketing. If you want to connect with your kids, see this movie. If you want tobond will your young son or daughter, see this movie. If you want topay high admission prices for throwaway 3D specks on something you'llforget the second you walk out, be my guest. This movie is moreemotionally potent then Toy Story 3 in my honest to goodness opinion. It just is; case closed. Up/How To Train Your Dragon and Moms NeedsMoms are superior movie fare for kids today.

Family Fun With a Moral To The Story

I read some of the reviews of the paid critics before going to watch this one, and had mixed feelings going in. Truthfully, I just wanted to pass a little time away, so why not? This movie started out slowly, but gained momentum and finishes teary-eyed, with a large lump in the throat from emotional impact that brings back fond memories of motherly love. In ways, it reminded me of Toy Story 3. The critics missed this one by more than a country mile because "Mars Needs Moms" is very good. If you belong to the vast majority of parents that have a child or two, or three that needs tough love from time to time and you feel exasperated from it all, take them to see this picture. It could be the trigger that reshapes a young mind to "Honor thy Father and Thy Mother", and teach a powerful lesson that could leave a lasting impression for life. Maybe the critics that gave their opinions never had a mom that loves them or any child that ever talked back or breaks the rules. Who knows? However the case may be, I, for one, appreciate the message within this excellent piece of movie magic. Thumbs up to Disney!!

[S]pectacularly mediocre... There isn't a whole lot... to really recommend Moms beyond the fact that it's not particularly offensive.

Mars Needs Moms Needs Funnies

This was a passable but unexceptional story, full of decentish characters and alright scenarios, but not many funnies...there is the rather mischievous young main character, his poor mother, who must constantly keep him out of trouble, a chubby, nerdy kid-grown-to-adulthood human resident of Mars, an evil Hitler-esque head of Mars, and the peppy, hippie-ish, "flower power" Martian girl...These characters aren't fodder for greatness, and in that 'Mars Needs Moms' comes through: they are not great, nor are they terribly funny. By the same token, they're not awful; they're just ok. The story mirrors its characters ... it's not fantastic, but it's not awful either. (spoilers) Martians kidnap the main character's mother -- after he's said something nasty to her -- and plan to kill her. With the help of "Grimble", the chubby nerd whose own mother met the same fate, and the flower power alien, he must rescue her. (end spoilers) Everything is decent and watchable, but nothing is awesome or memorable. There is not much character development, and the happily ever after ending on Mars is too silly (I'm thinking specifically of what happens with the main alien). The graphics are nice...everything is "pretty" and visually appealing. Perhaps the worst part of the film is that it is intended to be funny at points...and just isn't really. This is a film to watch once, and, if you like it, re-watch...and otherwise, forget and move on. 2.5/5 stars...not funny enough for comedy, not good enough for anything else

I rated it wrong, before I watched it! Good movie!

Good animated movie with a very simple plot. While the title and the plot may seem to be silly at first, the movie turns out to be better than expected. Of course all of it is about love and valuing the parents, moms. But eventually the movie really gets into you, and it's not even close to be bad as I thought from the trailers. Not everybody may like it, but I enjoyed it.

Good.

My 2 1/2 year old son absolutely LOVES this movie. After I watched the movie with him he gave me a bug hug and said I love you mommy. He watches it all the time at my moms house. I think even he understood the moral of the story. Even tho us moms do many things our kids don't like or don't want to do it's implying to appreciate your mom for who she is because you never know how long she's gonna be around. Overall this movie was pretty good.

Mars Needs Moms (2011) - No Way My Mom is Going to Mars!

Robert Zemeckis' amazing performance capture animation that helpedbring "The Polar Express" and "Monster House" on the screen, is backagain with Disney's most complicated movie, "Mars Needs Moms". SinceMars needs moms to take care of the Martian babies, they take away allmoms on the real world. And when Milo's mom gets kidnapped, he goes toMars on the rescue. Now first of all, the story sounds too unbelieving, too complicated, and too weird that mars wants real moms. But besidesthat, I still enjoyed the movie because of its quirky comedy, thegroundbreaking animation, and the special lesson from the heart aboutrespecting your mothers, because you'll never know what will happen. The environment on Mars is super excellent, and the casting of SethGreen, Dan Fogler, Mindy Sterling, and Joan Cusack was really unique. But at some points, some pieces of the story didn't feel true to whatthe movie talks about, and lost track of its potential. Now, althoughthe movie is worthy for the casting, the animation, the comedy, and allof the heart-filled drama, the movie just sometimes can't handleanything true to life, and it felt like a movie that's just here forthe environments. "Mars Needs Moms", in my review, "a potential losingtrack, but it's something special to watch".

Energetic and inspired (sans Fogler), the picture concludes on a high note, providing the intergalactic goods with spirit, only one critical miscasting away from true satisfaction.

Rent, dont buy

Thankfully we got this movie from the library and did not spend any money to rent/buy it. My 11 year old son and 7 year old daughter watched the whole thing and their final commentary was that it was "weird and a little boring, but OK." They both said it's not one they would want to watch again.

Hidden message of family

This review is from: Mars Needs Moms (DVD) I found this to be a great learning experience for some of our ungrateful youth. Lessons in respect and honor.

Forget Rango! Wonderful FAMILY movie!

We rented this movie and watched it twice in two days! We had low expectations but were pleasantly surprised by this movie. We have a four year old and six year old and they were both highly entertained. Especially my six year old son. I'm not sure I understand the negative reviews here but as a Mom who was appalled at the language and innuendo in Rango (for her childrens' sake), I thought this movie was very CLEAN and decent and had great moral lessons (especially about disobedience and the consequences). I also thought it was rather emotional because I could identify easily with the hurt mother...and my six year old could easily identify with the little boy who had said the hurtful things. And Gribble was awesome!! Smurf-berry crunch and He-man, indeed. THAT brought back old memories ;) Anyway. I know not everyone EVER agrees on anything, but we will be buying this movie in the future for our FAMILY movie nights. And that's something I can't say about many movies these days, Disney or not.

With originality an alien concept, the film proves to be the equivalent of sci-fi-cinema training wheels.

It's enjoyable enough, but a live-action movie with a better script would have been much more engaging

A Must See For a Mommy and Me Date

My 6 year old son and I went to see "Mars Needs Moms" on a "Mommy andMe Date". After 2 weeks of asking me if "Mars Needs Moms" was in themovie theater - the opening weekend finally came.We snuggled up in the theater and I honestly enjoyed every moment ofthe movie. My son did as well. The movie is very sweet and has fun humor. At one point I did tear up.On our way home I asked my son what his favorite part was and he said"when the mommy got saved by her son" and then he said "mom, if youwere kidnapped by aliens I would save you." Love him! All in all Iwould recommend this movie. I just hate it hasn't done well in the boxoffice. It really is good.

Cant believe all the negative reviews

I wasn't going to watch this movie at all because of the terribly lowscore (4) on IMDb. Luckily, my kids talked me into it, and I was verypleasantly surprised indeed.I am amazed that this movie scored so low. Yes, granted, its nothinggroundbreaking; there are plenty of well-worn formulas applied. But itsfar from unusual in this regard, and the story is full of funsituations and characters.Visually, its very nice to look at, and I found myself thoroughlyenjoying the time I spent watching it. So did my kids, 8 and 10, whoboth thought it was great! I don't usually review movies here, but Ioften check the ratings before watching films. In this instance, I amamazed at the low rating this film received, and feel itsunrepresentative of the actual quality. So 7/10 from me, and really at a loss as to how almost 30% of viewerscould have possibly thought 1/10 was a fair rating!

Introducing children to fun questions about evolution and gender politics, Mars Needs Moms is an odd, little hybrid of adventure and simplistic allegory.

Excellent film, why only 410?

I have just watched this movie and it was the best thing I've seen inWEEKS! I'm usually not into family crap, but this had some decenthumor, brilliant story, and good animation. I think people are veryspoiled these days, so they'll just hate everything for some reason...This film deserves more than 4/10, and... at least watch it before yourate! The characters were very talented (I imagine all the scenes werebased on real people's acts)... Nothing else to say, really. I thinkI'm gonna start watching more cartoons from now on, this one was reallygood. Thanks for reading!

Cute movie with a moral

This review is from: Mars Needs Moms (Amazon Instant Video) This movie held the interest of my elementary age students. Late elementary children and older may not enjoy this film as much (my older child refused to watch it at all.) The film had a great message about appreciating your mom and all she does for you. We have been having an issue lately with a case of the "I wants" and not wanting to follow directions as the holiday season approaches. This was a great way to remind the boys to behave without having to nag them. It was funny and heart-felt. The graphics were good and the target audience was children. I gave it four-stars instead of five on advice of the children as it left out the importance of Dads. The boys felt it should have taught more about appreciating both parents.

A great title to enjoy with the family..

I must say, this title is enjoyable to say the least. The voice actingis sensational, with a decent ensemble including Seth Green. I usuallyshare opinions with other users on movies, but the rating and reviewsfor this film are ridiculous. Mars Needs Moms! is definitely a film to see. The story isn'tbelievable? It's not supposed to be - it's Disney! Who can't love a bitof down-to-earth quirky one-liners from outer space, heart warmingsituations and the love and appreciation shown within the movie for allof the mothers out there. While biased reviews pour in from those whocan't appreciate PG movies - I sure do appreciate them and I love thisflick! This is a must-see.
