Laugh out loud funny

It's a decent movie, it's not constantly hilarious throughout, butthere are many times spread out that I laughed out loud, and I watchedit alone, usually you don't laugh very much unless there's someone elsearound. There are some parts that will just make you laugh hard, andsome little parts that will make you laugh a little. It's a parodiedaction flick and so you get one of these movies that tries to balancegood action with comedy, and many of them fail because they forget tobe funny. This one like "Get Smart" is funny and action packed throughthe whole film. While it's not laugh after laugh it's still a goodamount of funny and the action scenes are well done.The thing is, it's not the kind of movie with a lot of replay value,though I think I would watch it again, it will be a long time before Ido. From start to finish you won't be bored, and you'll definitelylaugh your ass off, but it's nothing special.

Who is MacGruber?

We still don't know, but the question stays with me. The film is NakedGun or Get Smart brought up to date with outrageousness that can offendcurrent sensibility. If it can't achieve that, then what is the point?It is very funny. But it is more. One of the henchmen is namedHossBender, and this is the key to insight into the character ofMacGruber. He is one of Fassbinder's characters, with complex motivesand behavior that does not boil down to anything simple and obvious.Will Forte is remarkable. Don't look for deep plot. Even parody takessecond place to character. But what a character!Pay no attention to the reviews. See it for yourself and think foryourself.

An example of how one terrible commercial can help derail a movie.

The movie was better than the commercials made it out to be. That in itself is quite a reversal.The one commercial I think which totally put people off from going, one of the worst put out for a film, was the one where the character asks a woman going to the bathroom, "is it for number one or two?"Really? The tone of that question would make you think the movie wasn't simply crude but was so cliche-racked as to be hated.

If you like stupid/goofy humor you are going to love this movie! It's especially good if you watch it late at night when you are a little tired, which is when I enjoy this kind of humor the most. That's when I saw it for the 1st time, and I was in tears through most of the movie because I was laughing so hard!

Over the top but funny

I've seen the MacGruber clips on SNL for awhile. I was surprised when I heard they were making the movie. I didn't think the clips were long enough to mold a movie from them. I was actually a little surprised, I didn't expect much, but this movie was pretty funny. You have to appreciate the 80's to see the humor. If you have never watch those 80's action movies & tv shows, then you may not "get it". Is this the best comedy I have seen? The funniest? No. However, if you are a SNL fan or can appreciate over the top comedy, then it's worth checking out.

Lets go pound Cunth!

Imagine Pineapple Express, Freddy Got Fingered, and all the classic Van Damme and Segal films and you get MacGruber. This film is f'ing hilarious. It's filled with a bunch of immature fart joke level humor and honestly some might call it a spoof of the action films of the 80's, but I felt like MacGruber was trying to honor those classics. Everyone was awesome in their roles, and I truly mean that. Everyone just nailed it. Very entertaining from start to finish. If you enjoy low level humor you should have no problem loving this film.

Buy this movie for your Mother-in-law or worst enimy!!!

This movie was written by the same main actor in the movie: Will Forte. It is clear that he watched MacGyver once in his life (no more than 1 episode) and probably hated so much that decide to write a comedy about it (a bad one by the way). :o( Disappointing !!!!The movie tried too hard and mislead the main idea about MacGyver. If you compare this parody with the classic comedy "Hot Shots"(a parody about Top Gun) for example, it is a poor, low quality FX comedy with a lack of the main instruments that characterize MacGyver such as Swiss Army Knife or Duct tape(used in 1 scene only). MacGruber cusses all the time, not skilled with women, does not work for any Foundation or special department (DSX), humiliate himself disgustingly by doing "anything" to be in a mission and, most of all make just a single bomb (without any explanation) - that would be the most of the jokes. It shows that the actor/writer never studied Science/Physics/Chemistry in his life. He also end up using a gun (what MacGyver never would do). Even the original actor, Richard Dean Anderson is a member of an anti-gun organization. Huge flaw.I can't believe someone could think it was funny. I watch Family Guy and other comedies with an intelligent sense of humor,but this movie was horrible. The worst part is to know who approves or sponsor a movie like that. I have watched MacGyver in the 80's-90's and re-watched it this year. I expected this movie would be a funny comedy such as "Airplane" or "Scary Movie", but it was not. Worst comedy ever. I would recommend it to your worst enemy or to send to your boss if you want to get fired. Well, I have tried to tell you... I told you so...

I know what you're thinking. "In what world can this movie be good? SNL hasn't been funny since the 90s! How can they make movie out of such a stupid and unfunny character?" Well, I thought the same thing, but then I saw the movie with an open mind. The result? Stupid. Hilarious. Brilliant.Anybody that says it wasn't funny, or that it was a bad movie was either too offended (understandable), or full of crap. Sure, it may look bad, but go into it with an open mind, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Don't believe me? Here's a rundown of the 3 most hilarious scenes:1: MacGruber has sex with his wife's ghost at her grave in a cemetery. However since she's not real, he's thrusting air. Hilarious visual.2: MacGruber has a scene where, he's becoming friends with Ryan Phillippe, then they're ambushed, and MacGruber uses Phillippe as a human shield, causing him to get shot up. Unknowing to MacGruber however, Phillippe is wearing a bulletproof vest. Hilarious visual.3: Kristen Wigg is undercover as MacGruber in a coffee shop. She tips the guy behind the counter, but MacGruber would never do that, so she is forced to take back her tip from the tip jar in front of the poor dude. Then, MacGruber is attacked in his van, and since Kristen Wigg is supposed to be saying everything he is, she ends up lying on the floor screaming "OH MY GOD!" Another hilarious visual.It basically plays itself as a serious 80s action film, but it'll just throw out ridiculous gags. For example, MacGruber says, "You're loco man!" The screen then pops up a subtitle saying, "You're crazy man!" There's also running gags about a license plate, celery etc. There's so many jokes flying past, it's almost Arrest Development like. Again, these statements may sound out of line, but you must watch the film to know what I'm talking about. Overall, with story that fits the action, great jokes & a cast that supports it and sells it all, MacGruber does what so many spin-offs & SNL films haven't done, it stands alone as a great piece of entertainment. You don't have to know to skit to like this movie, you don't even have to like SNL today to like this film. The two are completely different. This film is almost out of the Apatow school of thinking, and I will defend this film as one of the best films of the year thus far. I even predict cult classic status.

Exactly what youd expect from an SNL film, except that its kind of funny

MacGruber has all of the faults you'd expect from a film based on aSaturday Night Live sketch: 1) Squandered talent and wasted comedic opportunities. Kristen Wiigplays a very understated role in this movie. Her character doesn't haveany of the rapid-fire or goofy speech patterns she's known for on SNL,or anything very funny to say for that matter.Also, an important plot point about MacGruber's hand-picked team isdrawn out way too long in a scene that was totally spoiled by thetrailers anyway.There aren't really any cameos or supporting roles by anyone else withcomedic talent either.2) Sloppy, lazy writing with an underdeveloped plot. Not much happensin this movie. There are no really big action/chase scenes, just somestock warehouse/factory shootouts. All of the special effects budgetseems to have been spent on throat-ripping and bullet-wound effects.There are also a bunch of jokes about how MacGruber only uses householditems, not guns, but since he doesn't really use the gadgets to get outof sticky situations - except a celery stalk and a mop - these jokesfall mostly flat. So, it's definitely not Beverly Hills Cop - it's barely even BeverlyHills Ninja.3) Lowbrow humor. There are way too many repetitive, juvenilescatological gags in this movie, such as MacGruber's fixation withpromising to give or receive sexual favors in order to keep his missiongoing or his threatened mode of revenge against the villain.Even the villain's name is used ad nauseum throughout the whole moviein order to justify exactly one funny double entendre that occurs inthe first few minutes (think Alec Baldwin's "Pete Schwedde" characteron SNL - this movie probably had the same writer).Despite all this, I was laughing pretty hard throughout most of themovie, because the MacGruber character is just so stupid and over thetop. Kind of like Ace Ventura meets Dumb and Dumber without the limitsof a PG-13 rating. Also, Ryan Phillippe did a good job as the straight man.The TV ads are saying this is the funniest SNL movie since Wayne'sWorld. That's a pretty apt description even though it doesn't meanmuch, since Wayne's World was also disappointing.Anybody who watches SNL (or used to) knows what to expect. You sit (orfast forward) through 90 minutes of mostly crap hoping for a few goodlaughs. When MacGruber is over, you realize that this movie is alsomostly crap, but since it provides more than a few good laughs I guessthat makes it a qualified success.

Absolutely hilarious!

While the movie itself wasn't the greatest, overall, it was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a LONG time. I must've laughed out loud incredibly hard 30 different times throughout the movie. I went into this movie with very low expectations, and it turned out to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in ages!Ryan Phillippe did a GREAT job is his role. Having him play the character he did totally made the movie. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig were great too, of course.There are quite a lot of 1-star reviews on here. Each and every 1-star review, get a sense of humor! This movie is downright hilarious! 4 stars!

by far the worst movie I have ever seen

This is by far the worst movie I have EVER seen, I had highexpectations on this movie because I love the MacGruber sketches, butthis... this was even worse than "Superhero Movie", it was not funny atall, slow, tedious and boring, and the sex scenes were just awful, Ican't believe that someone actually liked this movie, I wouldn'trecommend it to anyone ever, and I think every copy should be burned,because it was an insult for the fans of the MacGruber's sketches, andto all comedy fans in general, I feel like my time has been robbed andI want it back.If you want to see the REAL MacGruber then go to NBC web page, don'twaste a penny in the movie.

works well as a straight action movie

i actually enjoyed this movie based on a Saturday Night Livecharacter.most movies based on an SNL character don't work too well.butthis one worked,at least in my opinion.it's billed as a comedy/ actionfilm.i didn't think it was overly funny,though there were some amusingmoments.for me,the movie worked as a straight action film.i found itentertaining on that level.if it had been made and marketed as astraight action film,it may have done better at the box office.neverhaving seen the SNL character the movie is based,it's hard to say howfunny the character was on the show.all i know is,i was entertained for90 or so minutes. for me,MacGruber is a 6/10

MacGruber bombs!

You have the option to choose the Unrated version ( 1 hour, 34 mins) or Theatrical Version on the red side of the disc. This movie is based upon the sketches from NBC's Saturday Night Live with cast member (2002-10) Will Forte as "MacGruber". The sketches were to make fun of the past tv series, MacGyver (1985-92). The young people liked the "MacGruber" sketchers on Saturday Night Live, so they decided to make this motion picture. Their is one scene after the end credits.In the cast: Will Forte, Powers Boothe, Val Kilmer, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe. Possibly the worst movie of 2010. This whole movie plays just like the awful SNL sketches. I give the award for Best Simulated Orgasm Scene to Will Forte. Nothing but unimaginative potty humor

By far one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Anyone with any kind of good taste would find this movie annoying and boring. There are certain people that can get away with it and make toilet humor funny (Monty Python). But these poor excuses for actors or comedians don't even come close. Not funny period. Combine that with the fact that it was originally a skit and you have the recipe for this disaster, as it is obvious that the writers had trouble coming up with new material for a full length picture.

Another Overlong SNL Skit, But Funnier Than Most

MacGruber is another movie based on a Saturday Night Live skit. And I'd say it's the best since Wayne's World. That's not to say that it's great. It takes a while for MacGruber to find its groove. It starts off kind of dull, but it gets funnier and better as it goes along. And it even has some surprisingly violent action sequences. Almost four stars out of five. Almost.

Pathetic Attempt At Comedy

So.. you got this super-guy MacGruber... and you got these otherssuper-guys (who are all wrestlers at the beginning than turn into ablonde chick and a 20yo captain) that super-help the main super-guyMacGruber and you got this super-villain named C*nth who wants to nukethe world or whatever. This is just boring and plain stupid becausethere was no script for this movie so I won't waste my time and yourstalking about some plot that doesn't exist.Let's go to acting!!! Damn that sucked but mostly not because of thelack of the talent but more because of the lack of the script which wastotal bullsh*t... Too many lame jokes and most of them are aboutsomeone's ass, penis or poop... on a short note...most of them arepoopy jokes that only a 6yo would laugh off. The action scenes are ridiculously made, no importance whatsoever. Noteven the cinematographic experience or the editing were not goodbecause they were less than average. Matter of fact I don't get whatwas all the hype behind this wack movie. The soundtrack in most partsof the movie is just a deep-base behind the cast talking which is dumb.When they talk about unimportant stuff they insert that deep-base sh*tlike it's something suspenseful in that discussion and right after thatwe have a rock song each time... so lame.I found this movie pathetic and I'm not surprised people didn't pay towatch this shi*t in a movie theater. It's one of the lamest attempts onaction-comedy ever. I don't know exactly how to review this movie orfrom what perspectives because I could dumb down myself to understandand review a bad movie but this needs more than that and I'm notwilling to lower myself to do that. Movie is simply boring, irritating,pathetic, not funny and not to mention poor acted and predictable. Allingredients of a failure in cinema.Storyline: 1/10. (plot full of crappy jokes = fail) Acting: 5/10.(wanted less but it's Will Forte's and John Solomon's fault for theterrible writing) Art Direction: 5,5/10. Cinematography/Editing: 5/10.Score: 5/10. Stupid, forgettable, over the top, and wonderful

Macgruber was the last SNL skit I was expecting to actually like as amovie. Come on, the skits are 15-45 seconds each. I couldn't imaginewatching this and actually laughing throughout when I saw the trailer,but that's exactly what I did throughout this movie. This isn't as goodof an SNL film as Wayne's World, but it's certainly not as bad as It'sPat. There's laughs coming fast and furious in this film, and eventhough you have to get through the lame ones, there are significantlymore funny, good ones. Will Forte does an excellent job of turning hisSNL character, Macgruber into a man you see in brief glimpses to anactual, funny movie character. This isn't a masterpiece, or hell, evenclever, but I laughed, and that's all I was asking for from this film.Val Kilmer isn't particularly funny, but he does make a good villain.The only really funny thing in his character is that his last name isCunth. Yes, his last name is Cunth. I actually walked out of thistheater thinking man, I loved this movie. Overall, if you're in themood for some good raunchy laughs, you should see Macgruber because itwill be right up your alley.

Not a thinking Mans Comedy

Having grown up watching TV shows like McGyver, I enjoy quick wit. This has none. Lot's of poorly done sight gags and no intelligent banter. MacGruber is portrayed as a sniveling incompetent Ex-navy Seal who doesn't know how to use a gun? He win's by lucky mistake when he's not cowering. His one liner's are funny because he says so, and he says so in the movie so you'll know.Will Forte is the star and one of the writers, so I guess he came up with the movies big sight gag of him shuffling around naked with a celery stick sticking out of his butt while holding onto his crotch. This must be funny as it's repeated by Ryan Phillippe later on. However, for those of you so inclined, you do get to see the male stars butts naked several times during the movie.The Blu-ray includes the Unrated version but not for nudity. The only naked folks you see are the male stars and yet the movie has a cameo of the WWF star Big Show being scratched of the team for apparently being gay. Again, Male stars butts seen naked several times. Hum.The movie is rated R or Unrated which says it's meant for folks 17 or older. But the humor is strictly for boys 13 or younger. The only thing I found good about this movie was the fact that I rented it for a dollar. In retrospect, that was 99 cents too much. It's not on My Wish List for DVD's I want to put on my shelf. I'm not even glad I rented it.
