just ok

heard alot of hype about this film and i saw it recently and i didn't find it funny or that memorable. things were obvious from the word jump and it was all long winded and drawn out before it got to the obvious. the acting was ok as well, nobody stood out and this film has been made 499 times already and about 480 times better as well. the storyline was sad, but the formula of the film was just kinda there.

2 people who hate each other a left to raise a baby. A pretty funny chick-flick that I laughed at, not bad. I say B

Two people who hate each other are picked to raise a little girl after thier friends unexpectedly die. After the worst blind date ever Holly & Eric (Heigl & Duhamel) are forced to still see each other through thier mutual friends. After a car accident leaves thier friend's baby in thier care Holly & Eric are left to work together to raise her right. Watching two single adults who have never thought about marriage or kids figure out what to do is very entertaining. The subject matter is very difficult to make into a comedy, but the writers found a way to make it work. There are definatly dramatic parts but overall it is a very funny and touching movie. In terms of romantic comedies this is a little on the girlie end but I did enjoy it and laughed throughout. The one downside is that it is very predictable. I give it a B.Would I watch again? - Yes I would

Good movie with weird story

Its weird they made a funny movie about new parents losing their child to a car crash and leaving her to their two best friends whom already dislike each other. However, with saying that, they did about as well as you could. I enjoyed the acting from both the main characters, as well as some of the add ons from other families. There were quite a few Laugh Out Loud moments, as well as sad moments, and even moments were Josh Duhamel showed that he could actually act? I was surprise nonetheless, but really enjoyed movie. I don't know if I'm going to rush out and buy it to watch over and over, but maybe after its been a little while and I find it cheap somewhere i'll add to the collection. Heigl is adorable and great as always, with exception of the killers, which was pretty lame. She brings beauty, emotion, comedy and similarity to the film. You understand she wanted a child and family but not the way she got it. Duhamel is the typical just wanna get laid guy in the movie until he realizes he's got something special, a beautiful women who cares about him and a adorable goddaughter that is technically his daughter, at home. Overall I'd say 8/10. Good movie, not all chick flick either, I enjoyed.-Cam

Better than your average Rom Com

So here we go again, another Rom Com with an inevitable ending and ascript written by a group of 'last year Drama students'.I must admit when my wife picked this film up I thought I would have toendure the usual trivial dross as with other films of the same genre. However within the first 20 minutes I found myself drawn to the twoleading characters in a way I normally wouldn't for this type of film.In fact, this is far from a light hearted and cuddly comedy we have allcome to expect. The film carries a serious yet subtle undertonethroughout about two people and the measure of their loyalty tothemselves and their friends. There are some laugh out loud moments and even a few tear jerkers.Don't get me wrong this film is not flawless but if it is a quiet nightin with a bottle of wine they don't come much better than this.A plausible script with strong performances from Heigl and Duhamel.

Life as We Know It

This review is from: Life as We Know It (DVD) A very delightful movie in all aspects. I have watched it at least five times. The acting is good, the plot is good and it is very humorous. What else can one ask for in a movie

Waste of time

I watched this movie with my brother since he bought the dvd (waste of time and money if you ask me)...The only good thing about this movie was the baby. She was adorable. The worst part of the movie to me was when they decided not to smoke pot but baked it in the brownie instead. I'm sorry but i didn't find anything funny about that. They are supposed to be taking care of the baby and they are getting high. Ridiculous.

The Two Sides of the Classical Masques Comedy and Tragedy

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT comes off much better than expected. Moving from a rather shallow and silly comparison of a married couple with a pair of perennial singles into a sudden tragedy makes the film take on more meaning than we've come to expect form the actors in this cast. Bakery owner and chef Holly (Katherine Heigl) and news broadcaster Eric (Josh Duhamel) are set up on a blind date by their friends, Peter (Hayes MacArthur) and Alison (Chrisyina Hendricks) who are married. Holly and Eric are individually Peter's and Alison's best friends and become the godparents of their newborn child when she arrives. Peter and Allison are killed in an accident and the distraught Holy and Eric put differences aside when they discover that they have been named guardians for the now orphaned Sophie. In order to facilitate their needs to be both compassionate guardians and still maintain their separate careers they move into Peter and Alison's house to honor their obligation to their best friends. Child rearing is foreign to both of them - here the movie gets a bit over the edge with potty humor - and how the tow disparate people come to terms is the gist of the film.Greg Berlanti directs, Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson have provided the script. The acting is a step above what Heigl and Duhamel have given us before and there are some fine supporting roles by Josh Lucas, Kumail Nanjiani, etc. This is an entertaining movie and does explore the significance of friendship at times of crises. Sweet, Heartwarming Story

This review is from: Life as We Know It [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I love Katherine Heigel's movies and this one is no exception. This movie shows how people can either be brought together or torn apart when life throws you curve balls and to have a baby thrown in the mix makes things all the more interesting. I found myself smiling, laughing and tearing up throughout the movie and will watch this again and again.

Sadly doesnt fill its potential.

I knew I had probably seen most of the movie in the previews, I alsoknew the ending was going to be beyond predictable, even so I wasreally looking forward to the movie. Cute girl, cute guy, cute baby, cute story...how could it miss? I thought perfect afternoon lightenjoyment...too bad I couldn't be more wrong. It was slow, dull and the film makers failed to make me care about thecharacters in any way. The biggest problem with the ending wasn't thatit was predictable, it was that I couldn't care less what happened tothe characters.Save your money, I don't think this one would even be worth a rental atthe $1 kiosk.

Good when its good, beyond horrid when its bad.

Some parts of the 115 minute film are funny and endearing but let me tell you about the other 100 minutes...what a horrible set-up idea! Let's kill off the parents so these two pretty looking and pretty vapid people can love-hate each other? And that's what ruins this movie. It's so fluffy when it's light that it can't balance out the serious side. It needs to be one or the other, not a hybrid of a rom com and horrific tragedy. Only Shakespeare could handle that.

easy to take but schmaltzy and predictable

Years ago, Holly and Messer were set up on a blind date by their mutualbest friends. Unfortunately for them it was a disaster, and they didn'teven get to the restaurant before they realized they weren't the leastbit compatible. Fast forward to the present day where, despite theirstill mutual dislike of one another, the two of them are forced toadapt to each other after those same friends die in an accident andname them as the caretakers to their orphaned baby girl. Can they putaside their differences and function as a real family? Heigl andDuhamel do what they do, but the material is familiar, obvious, andonly able to create any genuine feeling by relying on countlessclose-ups of the baby's face. Watchable, but probably should have beena straight-to-television lifetime movie instead of a full-lengthfeature. **

Pamperama

Life as We Know It / Rated PG-13 for sex, language, drugs, dirtydiapers A blind date with two very mismatched people leads tocomplications. The people are Katherine Heigl, a cute bakery/restaurantowner and Josh Duhamel a beer drinking, sports loving hunk of a guy wholikes to womanize and jog. The people who set up their date are theirrespective best friends. The BF's get married and have a child. A cutebaby named Sophie. The BF's then meet the grim reaper and leave the kidto the baker and the drinker. More complications ensue. Lots more. Theydecide to raise the baby while living at odds in the dead BF's home inAtlanta, GA in order to raise the cute little Sophie. The predictableevents that are almost completely given away in the film's trailers alloccur right on schedule. Even if you haven't seen the trailer you canpretty well guess the events correctly from what I have just told you.LAWKT is a pleasant if very predictable comedy with more comedy thanexpected. The movie runs a trifle long at 112 minutes and a good 20minutes could have easily disappeared without notice or harm to thestoryline. Since most of the plot issues have come from many othermovies they have pretty much relegated this movie to a "date film" withheavy "chick" film overtones. The cute scenes with Sophie are easilythe best part of the movie. Sophie is played by an adorable set ofacting Triplets known as Alexis, Brynn and Brooke Clagett. They arereally great and look a lot alike. I could not tell them apart. If youcan please tell me how you did it. They appear to have no prior actingexperience. A lot like the Wayans Bros. in any of their movies. Thescenes are actually filmed in and around Atlanta GA. Do not confusethis city with Vancouver BC. Or vice-versa. As a date movie this one ispretty good. The two main stars do a decent job in their Odd Coupleroles as opposites destined for true love. The ever busy Josh Lucasturns up as the Doctor and love interest rival for KH. This movie willlook pretty much the same on DVD as it does on the big screen. At least70% of the scenes appear to be inside the home where the 3 Sophie's andher adopted parents are attempting to cope with her feeding, poopingand just plain looking cute. Pamper anyone? Rated 2.5 out of 4.0reasons to be glad this movie is not in smell-o-vision

Just looking at these two....

This review is from: Life as We Know It (Amazon Instant Video) OK, so I'm shallow. I loved this movie because Heigl and Duhamel are so damned gorgeous and sexy, I had to watch the movie five times to get enough. The baby angle is just fine for building a plot. The chemistry that builds between Duhamel and Heigl carries the movie - you know they are going to end up together but it's going to be a tough sell. If they never ended up together, it would still be great watching some smoldering sexual tension develop. I've seen this movie several times. Love the characters. There are some good laughs, some great romantic moments, and a lot of real feeling. Ultimately, it's a movie about - wait for it - family.

Good intent but miss the moral values that makes a real family

I have to say that the movie has a very good theme, denote theimportant of the family and how the people eventually needs to haveone, or be part of one. The love that these guys have each other islike most of the common marriages. But the moral values that the movieshown is more than an open mind point of view! Does anybody think thatafter been with a lot of woman sleeping in the same house, and most ofthem from the same area the romantic girl still fall in love with adepraved man. Do you think that he stop doing his things? Or what aboutafter being dating with the doc just in a moment she said ups sorry, the guy of the house back. This is totally unreal I know is a movie butnot of science fiction !!!!

Saddest comedy EVER! But worth seeing.

Although you can see the whole movie by just watching the previews, Istill went to see it and was not disappointed.Let me start by saying this is the saddest comedy ever. I know, Iknow.. Obviously the original parents die so you expect the beginningto be sad, but it carried through the whole movie. But then again I'mone of those who start crying as soon as anyone on screen does. When Iwas not crying though, it was hilarious. Many are complaining about the ending be predictable, which iscompletely ridiculous. It is. But it wouldn't be a romantic comedy ifthe movie didn't end how we all want it to.The baby was cute. The movie has a good pace. The acting was good. Andlets face it, it could be awful and I'd still watch it again to seeJosh Duhamel.

A really good option

This review is from: Life as We Know It (DVD) Life As We Know It is a comedy based on tragedy. It was a movie that just kinda looked cute but really took off when Holly and Messer were named legal guardians. I was quite intrigued to see this movie unfold as it went on. I enjoyed watching this movie in theaters and have purchased this movie to continue to watch as my daughter grows.

Life strikes

This review is from: Life as We Know It (DVD) When you want to take a break from your norm this is a great distraction. You learn that life hits us in the face but we can manage whatever cards we are dealt. This is a great movie, with the perfect amount of humor related to a very serious issue. Both big name stars came through with grace. I took my son to see it and it is a bit much for him, but the R parts are obscured so well. Watch it.

Unfunny, annoying and looong, really bad. parents killed off so couple can get together in the end, lame!

I have no idea how listening to TWO hours of a SCREAMING BABY is funny. I got stuck watching this HORRIBLE movie on a date and was forced to finish watching it to be polite. It was PURE TORTURE. Katherine Heigl must really think she is very special to make people pay to sit through this annoying, unfunny, predictable and offensive movie. The parents are killed off(terrible idea) and the 2 idiots end up getting together as a couple in the end, shocking! You could not PAY ME to watch this movie again.
