Plot Summary:
Knight and Day has action by the boatload, cheeky wit, unexpected double-crossing, sexual tension, and the blinding smile of its star, Tom Cruise. In short, what more could you ask of a rollicking good-time movie? Knight and Day, which also stars the irresistible Cameron Diaz as Cruises superspys ultimate foil, channels the best elements of earlier films like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mission Impossible, the Bourne films, and even a little of Duplicitys sophistication. Mostly, though, Knight and Day is about moving things along merrily, if not completely coherently, as the two stars tangle, and tussle with trust issues, in a completely believable, compulsively watchable way. Cruise plays Roy, an on-the-lam spy (who may have had some kind of psychotic break--or who may in fact be the only person telling the truth) he runs into the winsome June (Diaz), who gets caught up in Roys mad dash to escape the cabal of federal agents on his tail. No one follows us, Roy announces to a terrified diner crowd as he moves to make his escape with June, or I kill myself--and then her. While Knight and Day, directed by James Mangold, has more than its share of high-speed chases, hails of bullets, and explosions, it works far better as a romantic comedy--for the chemistry between Diaz and Cruise is delicious, palpable, and believable. So grab a date and an extra-large popcorn, and get ready for a sweet and fun Knight and Day.

Dont miss this because you dont care for Cruise
This is a good movie. Lots of action and fun! Know Tom has hurt his standing but don't let that keep you away if you want to see a good flick.

Very enjoyable action movie with some comedy
I went to see this movie, knowing I usually don't like Tom Cruise'sacting, and ditto for Cameron Diaz's acting, so my expectations werepretty low. From the beginning to the end of the movie I was thoroughlyentertained. It was an action-ridden movie with some comedy elements, that didn't pretend to be any more than that. I guess you could say itwas along the lines of From Paris With Love.Cruise's acting is usually over the top and in this case that workedperfectly; the way he delivered his lines provided some comedy onitself and really suited the movie as a whole. Diaz playing the blondeperfectly. You can look for holes in the script, or having problems taking themovie too serious. But it's just entertainment for the masses, and itprovided exactly that!

Great fun
I don't like most of Tom Cruise's movies, but I like this movie. It's fast paced, stress free, and funny. I would probably watch it again if I am not so busy.P.S. If you like serious drama, good acting, then turn elsewhere.

This didnt work for me
There is a point at which you have to throw caution to the wind andjust go with a movie where it takes you, sometimes there is a moviethat is so over the top that you have to just go with it where ever ittakes you. Then there is another point where you have to throw yourhands up and go as much fun as the film isn't paying me back for goingwith it blindly...Knight and Day is a nonsensical film about June who get mixed up withRoy a spy who drags her into an ever increasing series of huge actionset pieces. Is romance far behind? The bits are very well done, butthey are staged so knowingly that it kind of sucks the life out of it(one can be too knowing and too jokey). Worse the film constantlycheats to get you out of disaster and on to the next piece. I wasadmiring the technical virtuosity of the film but at the same time Inever connected. (Worse Cameron Diaz is at best a non-actor with theresult she never sells any of it.) Rereading this post I find itdoesn't make a heck of a lot of sense but then again neither does thismovie.Worth seeing for the great action, but wait for cable where the lack ofa real plot won't be as painful.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MOVIE
It reminded me why both Tom Cruise and Cameryn Diaz are stars. Because they are both pros. Their chemistry is amazing, their timing fantastic. I loved it for every reason I have always loved movies BEFORE they got to be so awful....PURE ENTERTAINMENT. GREAT MOVIE, GREAT ACTING GO SEE IT....IT'S GOING TO BE A BLOCKBUSTER AND TOM CRUISE AND CAMERYN DIAZ DESERVE EVERY PENNY THEY EARNED. FANTASTIC. HOPE THEY DO A SEQUEL!!!!!

A Fun Movie
Knight and Day is a movie that has a good mix of humor and action. Bothstars of the movie were great. Tom Cruise did a great job as RoyMiller. He did just as well in the comedy scenes as he does in theaction scenes. Cameron Diaz performed excellently as June Havens. Iloved how at the beginning she was kind of a dumb blond and by the endshe was smarter. The only problem I had with movie was how long it tookfor me to get into it. When the movie began, it started out a littleslow. After a little while the movie did finally pick up the pace.Because of this, I do think the writers could have written a betterbeginning. Overall, the movie was really good and I think that it isworth people's time to go see.

Definitely Mindless, but not much fun
If you don't care about plot or good writing but big action scenes and a lot of full screen head shots of Tom Cruise are all you need, then you might enjoy this film.I walked away thinking it could have been so much more, but seemed to happily settle for mediocre. But maybe that's just me.

A Fun Ride Provided By Cruise And Diaz
Knight and Day is a romantic action comedy film starring Tom Cruise andCameron Diaz. The film is directed by James Mangold. The plot follows theadventures of Roy Miller (Tom Cruise),a spy on the run, and June Havens(Cameron Diaz),a car restorer. He is seen watching Havens, and he bumpsinto her a couple of times as they go through security at WichitaAirport. While she is making her way back home to Boston from Kansasafter picking up spare parts for her deceased father's car that she isrestoring for her sister as a wedding gift. Even though she has aconfirmed reservation for her flight, she is told at the gate that itis overbooked. The movie follows their adventures across the globe asboth run from their perpetrators. The movie was pure fun and nothing more.It was a joy ride as we see anew roles for Cruise and Diaz in comedy. It is also worth mentioningthat the chemistry between them seems lacking. I prefer them intogether in Vanilla Sky and future drama films rather than this comedy.A 6/10 rating is decent for this film.

SUPERCRUISE
Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerfull than a locomotive, able to do the most invinceble way out things ever. No bullet can hit this man, yet he never misses. Look up on the screen, is it a bird , is it a plane not its Supercruise. What a load of rubbish and waste of time this movie was.

Great popcorn flick
This movie calls out for a steamy summer day when the theater's air conditioning is half the reason to go. It offers pretty much everything a silly-season movie watcher (or parents of same) could want: guns'n'chases, bloodless violence, a chaste romantic theme and, at least in the last fifteen minutes, a nice role reversal with a girl-power touch. The plot (such as it is) features Tom Cruise dragging Diaz's small-town character from her supporting role in Boston wedding through the seamy side of Europe's black-market arms trade. Somehow, her hayseed character and his boyscout cheerfulnes never waver, even during running gun battles with unspecified bad guys. C'mon, you didn't come for the credibility, did you?Set your expectations properly, and it's a fine bit of commodity entertainment.-- wiredweird, reviewing the version in theaters

A genuinely fun flick.
This is no where near a masterpiece, and I didn't expect it to be. Thisis a film that doesn't take itself seriously, and... it's great. I knowthis won't win any awards, and it doesn't deserve to. At the end of theday though, it's a movie that's supposed to entertain and it delivers.KNIGHT AND DAY is utterly hilarious, as well as having the perfectblend of action and comedy. I would give this one 5 stars, but there'stwo things that really bug me. The first 15 minutes really drag on, andwhen I say really, I mean REALLY. Once Cruise gets on that plane, themovie really picks up. The last 15 minutes are awful, and I absolutelyHATED the dialogue reversal thing they did. Sure, a quote or two wouldbe nice, referencing Roy and Junes time together, but an epic speech? No thanks. Overall though, this was bloody good fun. Cruise and Diazmake an unlikely couple, and Cruise himself makes this hilarious towatch. Oh, and I didn't understand the title. I get the Knight part, but who the hell is day?I loved it. Highly recommended.

Entertaining....but San Fermin Festivities in Spain??? Where did that come from?
The movie is entertaining, and you will like it if you are not looking for a masterpiece. It's OK to watch at home, but would not have payed to watch it in the theater. Also,I'm from Spain, specifically from Pamplona, a small city in the north where the real San Fermin festivities take place. It was annoying to see that in the movie they place the San Fermin in the middle of Seville.Misinformation or ignorance?? I believe that movie producers should get better informed about what they are depicting in their films.

Funny but stupid funny
You have to be a fan of Tom Cruise to really like this. The plot issilly so do not expect it to make sense. You will laugh because it isso stupid and Tom Cruise really tries to act but you can see he can'tcut it. Diaz acts like an imbecile throughout screaming at every turnand acting more like a 12-year old adolescent girl than a grown woman. If you like mindless movies this may be for you. Personally I think the3 stooges shorts made more sense than the plot of this movie and thestooges could certainly make you laugh a lot more. So if its rainingand you have nothing to do, the rain might even be more interesting. Adud.

A good mixture of humor and drama
In this comedic adventure tale, a secret agent discovers that his superiors want to kill him. He takes a plane to his destination, but they or some others know about it and do not allow anyone on the plane other than a woman they think he is somehow involved with, even though he apparently only met her. The agent kills all of the many people on the plane that try to kill him, including the pilots, and the plane crashes. He leaves the woman, who is arrested by the FBI, who want to find the agent. It turns out that he is carrying a battery that everyone wants to get, the woman repeatedly does flakey things that get her in trouble and he needs to rescue her, and the agent and the woman fall in love. People who like their dramas without comedy will dislike the film, but others with a dual sense of humor and adventure will enjoy it.

If Cruise is Knight is Diaz Day? But her name was June Havens!!!
If you enjoy watching Tom Cruise the person playing a character like Tom Cruise the actor would play when he plays a super-spy in the way that Tom Cruise would be a super-spy if he could be "Tom Cruise, super-spy" then you'll enjoy this movie. This movie has a lot of Tom Cruise going for it. I can't wait until he plays a super-spy with the nickname "The Cruiser". Alas, not in this movie. This movie is a lite actioner with some lite humor that works. Cameron Diaz (IMO) has seen better days; she's looking a little worn down here honestly (my wife even thought so) but she's still fun as the romantic interest and helpless lass. With decent comedy chops of her own she actually gets to play it a little more straight than Cruise whose super-spy character is not just super-talented he's also super-caring with a twist of quirky and a dash of zany thrown in for good measure. This movie never tries to be anything other than fun and it succeeds. If you're looking for a "Mission Impossible" or "Minority Report" or "Collateral" type of intense Cruise look, well, at one of those I just mentioned because you won't find him here. If you've seen a lot of action movies then you've seen these stunts before. The movie isn't going to make you scratch your head and wonder what just happened. If anything it's actually like a 1930s action romance comedy but with an actual budget. Enjoy it for what it is.Oh. And lame name for the movie.

Its so funny because its so bad!
This film is about a blonde woman who boards a plane she should nothave boarded. She has to tag along a dangerous man and they ran fortheir lives from various groups of people trying to kill them. The plot may sound intense on paper, but the execution isembarrassingly ridiculous. Sure, there is a lot of action throughoutthe film, but most of the action comes from the stupidity of JuneHavens, played by Cameron Diaz. It's like telling a child "don't dothis", then the child does exactly that, then disaster occurs and ahero has to come in and save the day. There were so many times when thevery stupid dialog makes me laugh out loud, while other times theridiculously unbelievable action makes me laugh out loud. I am sure thefilm is not meant to be entertaining in this way, but nevertheless"Knight and Day" is so funny because it is so bad.

despite myself, loved it utterly--thoroughly fun
To start, this summer has been parched. I loved Ironman, then hatedIronman2. I love Russell Crowe, bad boy behavior notwithstanding, andlove period drama but found another big disappointment with Robin Hood.(Who writes these scripts? Do they ever show it to normal people beforefinalizing? May I recommend my sister?) All of which means: I think mystandards are pretty high, and also though that I was dying for asatisfying movie experience this summer. And I finally found it in the unlikely place of Knight and Day lastnight.Unlikely because I never cared for Cameron Diaz and, well, we all knowabout Tom.Still, this movie made great and best use of their personalities, whichreally were the backbone of this fun romp. Yes, the movie does demandsome suspension of disbelief (a lot) but that wasn't the point -- itwas a fantasy well-told. Go have fun. Nothing else this summer so faris on the same level.

Knight and Day
Although I'm used to seeing IMDb have equally divided crowds, the "Thismovie sucks!" crowd's justification is basically it having crappyeffects and being far too predictable. Personally, I think both aspectsmade the film what it is. (I think there might be spoilers ahead. Ohwell.) The movie's practically a tribute to old secret agent films. Thespecial effects are crud. Tom Cruise meets people in dark alleys andjumps from car to car without receiving so much as a bruise. Hisbullets never run out. He whips out what are probably illegalsubstances from non-existent pockets. Bad European men are going aftersomething with a nifty name that starts with a Z made by a younggenius, as a well a double agent who framed our beloved protagonist. It's got a happy ending and the guy gets the girl. Sound familiar? Ofcourse, the movie does have it's original aspects and some nice jokes, which are brilliantly delivered by Tom and Cameron, but it wouldn'thave been half as great had it not been so campy and impossible.Go watch this if you want two hours of giddiness and fun.

Knight and Day aspires to the light charm of a romantic action comedy like Charade or Romancing the Stone, but would come
...closer if it dialed down the relentless action. The romance part goes without saying after a Meet Cute contrived in an airport, and the comedy seems to generate naturally between Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. But why do so many summer movies find it obligatory to inflict us with CGI overkill? I'd sorta rather see Diaz and Cruise in action scenes on a human scale, rather than have it rubbed in that for long stretches, they're essentially replaced by animation.Have summer audiences been so hammered down by special effects that they require noise and fragmented visuals to hold their interest? Is it still possible to delight in a story unfolding with charm and wit? How many machine guns do you need in a romantic comedy? If you have charismatic stars like Cruise and Diaz and an A-List director, do you have to hedge your bets? The movie is entertaining, but could have been better. The director is James Mangold, whose previous two films were "Walk the Line" and "3:10 to Yuma." I have a hunch there was an early draft of Patrick O'Neill's script that was more in the Cary Grant rom-com tradition and then somebody decided the effects had to be jacked up. From the ads, you could get the notion this is a Michael Bay film. The wonder is that Cruise and Diaz are effective enough in their roles that they're not overwhelmed by all the commotion surrounding them. They make the movie work because they cheerfully project that they know it's utter nonsense and pitch in to enjoy the fun. I've been reading that movie stars can no longer "sell" a blockbuster movie. Audiences buy the concept, brand name, packaging, whatever. If that's true, which I doubt, it would mean a victory of technology over humans. If it comes true, it will be because movies have lost interest in creating and shaping characters we care about -- because they're using actors as insert shots in special effects. The plot makes splendid use of a MacGuffin, the device which explains everything by explaining nothing. Roy Miller, the Cruise character, has something, and there are bad guys who want it. I could tell you what it is, but what difference does it make? That's the whole point of a MacGuffin. Anyway, Roy "happens" to run into June Havens, the Diaz character, at an airport, for reasons you will discover. That's the manipulated Meet Cute. Now this next part you will want to follow closely. They both end up on the same airplane, which has no other passengers, except some men scattered here and there. She goes to the restroom. He kills all the men and both pilots, then sits the dead passengers upright in "Weekend at Bernie's" style. She comes out of the restroom, not having heard the gunshots. He crash-lands the plane in a field and urges her to follow him in escaping FBI agents who are after them. But ... but ... was there no other way for the bad guys to get the MacGuffin than by taking over a scheduled flight? Maybe, I dunno, snatch him on the ground? How did the FBI know the plane would crash -- and where? Also, if you track who has possession of the MacGuffin during various times at the airport, you'll go crazy. Mind you, I'm not complaining. The movie knows this sequence is monumentally silly, and so do Cruise and Diaz, and Cruise keeps up a reassuring line of patter all during it, even while trying to crash-land safely. That stuff is entertaining. There's also a running joke about how much ground they cover in an international chase. The movie was shot on location in Massachusetts, Spain (where they are chased by bulls), California, Jamaica, Austria and Kankakee, Ill., which has an excellent Steak 'n Shake off Interstate 57. Whether the actors were actually there on all those locations is a good question. Maybe only the green screen stuff was shot on location.Such matters are irrelevant in a movie that makes not the slightest pretense of realism. Cruise and Diaz are fully scripted throughout with nonstop bantering and one-liners. They never seriously discuss their situation. They spend half the movie in dire danger. Thousands of bullets miss them. By motorcycle, car, train, airplane and parachute, they survive anything. That girl June, she's a trouper. She follows Roy everywhere and believes everything he says. But ... but ... why does she need to come along? Roy has the MacGuffin. She was a witness, you say? To what? I'll tell you why she has to be along. It's because this is a romantic action comedy starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, that's why. So all of that I accept, and even applaud, and I observe that Diaz has one of the most winning grins in the movies. Basically, what I wanted was more of it. Some of that Cary Grant dialogue. More flirtation. More of a feeling the characters, not the production, were in the foreground. More of the stars. Because movie stars really do make a difference. I insist on it.

A Nutshell Review Knight and Day
What a rush! Knight and Day delivers the quintessential summerblockbuster through a perfectly delivered adrenaline ride with bignames, action and comedy put together. Honestly The Killers, in asimilarly positioned film with the alpha-male and the ditzy blondepairing have paled in comparison with the real deal now on our shores, and it had likely boiled down to the star power that Tom Cruise andCameron Diaz still command in this part of the world, if sold outattendances here are any indication.James Mangold's filmography currently covers a wide range of genres, and this experience had benefited him since Knight and Day containsplenty all rolled into one, with action, comedy, science fiction andeven serious drama all included. The story really is quite flimsy, ifnot for the constant twists and turns that actually put you in thedriver's seat and engage you in wondering who's who, and what's what, and just whose account you can trust, that of the suave spy, or thegirl in shock, or how about the authorities for that matter. And success was due in part to comedy no less. Tom Cruise had shownthat he's adapt at being a comedic actor, with his now iconic LesGrossman from Tropic Thunder being the most memorable. He's notpushover as the action hero, though it's actually been-there-done-thatterritory as Roy Miller, who possesses this streak of recklessnessbalanced with expertise and superhuman abilities, who never seems to beputting in the wrong foot. Always seeming to be one step ahead of thegame, you'll be constantly positioned to question his motives, hisintent and wonder whether Miller is good, bad, or straddling both sidesas a double agent.Cameron Diaz on the other hand with her sunshine smile and demeanour, makes for that perfect eye-candy from whom we follow the proceedings, where her June Havens bumps into Miller at the airport, and followingwhat she thought could be an opportunity for romance, soon findsherself wanted by a clandestine organization, shady underworld dealers, and somehow being doggedly in pursuit by Miller. She has no idea what'sgoing on and it is precisely us following this huge question mark thatproves to be half the fun.Cruise and Diaz share great chemistry together, and it's been quite along time since they're last pairing together under limited screen timein Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky, where the highlight of their scene wasin a car careening off at high speeds. And it's no different here aswell, with their best scenes almost always involving planes, trains andautomobiles, including a high speed Ducarti chase with jeeps and bullseven through the busy streets in Spain. Action here is all non-flashy,but has enough pizazz to thrill and put you at the edge of your seat. The one action sequence that stood out was the chase down the highwaywhere Miller rescues Havens with the sheer audacity of taking on anarmy of agents in a convoy of vehicles with shootouts, blowouts, andimpossibly executed stunts if not for computer technology. But noteverything's quite polished in the film, and the special effects werealarmingly raw for certain scenes, where you can spot the obvioussuperimposition. The other surprise was a narrative one, which allowedfor sticky situations to be explained away, for deft defying escapes tobe done without being shown, with cheats applied through fade toblacks. Which is a pity because Tom Cruise obviously did some, if notmost of his own stunts to make his character look the convincingbad-ass he is with the fluid leaps and jumps.Still the film worked, with supporting characters like a veryrestrained Peter Sarsgaard, and an almost unrecognizable Paul Danoplaying quite one-dimensional roles. Ultimately it boiled down toCruise and Diaz playing to their strengths, and the other major pluspoint would be the original music by John Powell, which jazzed thisfilm up and added another dimension to this action-comedy. This is adefinite winner in this year's rather dismal summer season thus far.
