Hrithik and Barbara Mori ecxellent toghether.This is an experiment for Bollywood because it incorporate elements of Hollywood to please the western audience. This means a lot of action in a beautiful love story, a mexican actress as co-star an little dancing scenes usually seen in Bollywood movies.

KITES Adventurous, Brave, Different and Applaudable!!

Like many others, I had been eagerly waiting to watch this latestventure from FilmKraft. I loved their previous ventures. For me,FilmKraft = Different and well Krafted movies. Adding to this has beenall the hype and hoopla around the movie. And who can overlook the factthat this was going to be Barbara Mori's Bollywood debut. Wooah..!!As soon as the music was out, I got the disc. Honestly, I was a bitdisappointed. A movies of this stature had to have music which was overthe moon. Nonetheless, I kept listening to it. That's when I realizedthat the music of Kites wasn't from the traditional Bollywood masalagenre. It is from the genre that tends to grow on you. You may not likethe music at first go, but if you keep listening to it. And once youdo, it will start playing games with you. You'll start loving it.You'll notice that Hrithik can't only act/dance but can sing and singwell too. "Kites in the sky" is beautiful. KK fills his magic into"Zindagi" and "Dil Kyu yeh mera". And I was not at all disappointed tosee these tracks being used as background scores throughout the movie.IT completely went with the flow and soul of the movie.Now, arrived the D-day. I booked my tickets in advance. Unfortunately,heard a lot of crap about the movie. A lot of people gave it anoutright NO. Standing in the queue outside the plex, people came out ofthe previous show, screaming - "Don't waste your money..!!"Still, having my faith in Basu, FilmKraft and Hrithik I marched on. AndI am glad I did. So much so, I am even planning to catch it again nextweekend.The locales are beautiful. Vegas and the Mexican deserts, give you afeel of a magnum-opus. The movie no-doubt has been shot brilliantly. Inthe most picturesque of locations. From the desert to the streets toVegas to the desert, all picture perfect.Hrithik looks like a Greek God!! Acts, dances and sings like one too,if ever the Greek Gods tried their hands at this. He sets the screenafire. He is, undoubtedly, the best actor we have in the industrytoday. Not many can shy away from this fact.Barbara has a screen presence. You can't take your eyes off her. Theyare just glued on her. She's charming, sexy, beautiful and bubbly allat the same time. She's acted really well. The reluctant lover,portrayed by her to near perfection. Considering it's just her firstBollywood venture. Although, Kites has very little Bollywood about it.The rest of the cast did well. They were supporting the lead pair andsupported them well. Many may say, these actors were wasted. Well,Kites is about Hrithik and Barbara. And the rest of the cast did wellwith whatever they got.Kites moves along at a steady pace. Throughout the movie, I felt I waswatching a Hollywood venture. The present to past cuts made me think Iwas watching Memento. No comparisons made, but Basu n Roshans havecrafted the movie beautifully. The Climax was Wow. IT reminded me ofRoad to Perdition or Sin City. These movies are Legends. But Kites isnot far from them. Beautiful!!The intense love between Hrithik and Barbara has been portrayed withutter perfection. In many scenes, you feel their love. You feel whatthey are going through. You actually feel as if you are being tornapart. You feel their pain, their happiness, their every emotion.That's how magnificently the movie is crafted.In the end, Kites is beautiful. It's magnificently conceived, created,shot, acted and presented. For me, there were no loopholes in thestory. For me, the movie score a perfect ten. Coz it has the guts to dowhat no other movie has done till date. Marigold tried it and we allknow what happened to it. Kites is not for the regular masala moviegoers. I noticed people making fun of various scenes in the plex. Theworld today has very little love and connect left in it. As such, wecan't even appreciate the on-screen love and it's intensity. We haveforgotten how to love and sacrifice. For me, Basu and the Roshans havehit the bulls eye. Can't wait to see Hrithik in a Hollywood flick soon.Happy Movie Going : ))

Desperado for Hrithik

Let me tell you that desperado is that movie which brings AntonioBanderas to Hollywood. Similary kites is that kind of movie that willbring Hrithik to Hollywood. Different people have different views onthis movie. According to me, this movie is completely different movieand having no comparison with any other Bollywood movie. I cant comparethis with 3 idiots as that topic was different and this one isdifferent. The best part of the movie is none other than Hrithik solidacting and dance. Story is not new, but its style and Direction makesit excellent. This is the only movie of Indian History goes to BoxOffice Top 10. And this earn the most revenue on 1st weekend. I justwant to say just go to see this movie one's and you will know why thismovie is best. Now after watching Kites in Hindi, next week I amplanning to go Kites remix.I will rate this movie 9/10 as I believe the ending is disappointingfor Indian Audience.

not just hrithik ! , it has everything........

Before watching the movie, i heard reviews from my friends who hadalready seen it and were not good(which disappointed me for i had a lotof expectations). But after watching kites i think they were all wrong.The brilliance of Hrithik is adorable, even Barbara Mori gave a veryimpressive performance.The movie is a perfect blend of romance andthriller, with a perfect music making it better.To all those who are disappointed, guys if you expect a six and getfour, four is still good. Maybe the movie had lots of expectations,much more than any can deliver. The only disappointment was that iwatched a CENSORED version........

Kites Review

Kites! It is obvious that this name was well thought-out and it workswell, keeping with the tradition of movie names starting with 'K' forRakesh Roshan.There's talk that this movie is doing well outside and not with Indianaudiences. If you go in with preconceived notions and not an open mind,you won't like it. It is like a new dish; you just have to experienceand take it in because after all it is a nice concoction! For one thing, this movie is just about 2 hours and thus is breezy, nottoo slow in pace. The story unfolds well. Regarding the characters andother aspects, it is clear that it was all well thought-out tointroduce Bollywood to other places. You select the best lookingpeople- so you have Hrithik Roshan (Jay) obviously the most handsomehunk, Kangana (Gina)- a natural beauty but with not much to do andKabir Bedi(Bob) considered a handsome man who can speak well. And likeRakesh Roshan's other films involving Hrithik, it intends to show thatHrithik can do everything. Nothing wrong with that, because he can! Hisstunning looks are even more enhanced in this film, his body is asculpture, he can dance like he has no bones and most importantly, hecan act well too- a complete package really. You can't help but be lostin his "limpid hazel" eyes. Then you have Barbara Mori (Natasha, Linda)a beautiful actress, well known in Spanish television in US. Due to itsLatin flavor, it can reach the largest movie going audience in America,the US Hispanic and Brett Ratner who understands it well, will bringout a short, remixed, English version of this movie.The movie has been shot in great locations, has romance, action,comedy, chase sequences, adventure, song and dance. The film has someof the trademark beautiful 'comedy' moments like previous Roshans'film. The music might not feel great the first time, but the more youlisten to it, the more you will like it. The love story I felt in someways similar to Titanic. Many will not agree, but it was there- twopeople who are quite different, the girl is not happy in therelationship that she is in, about to get married to someone else, theboy saves her in all possible ways, he wants to send her away so thatshe would be safe but she comes back and finally the end where one ofthem dies first. There is something about unfulfilled love stories thatmakes you sad but still you like it in the end.Beautiful scenes that stand out (or highlights of the film) - 1. The dance in the competition at the beginning by Hrithik andKangana.2. Where Hrithik and Barbara make various shadow figures with hands.Perfect example of how 2 people who don't speak the same language cancommunicate in different ways.3. When Hrithik and Barbara each tell their sad stories about theirparent(s)/family.4. The whole sequence where they are escaping from the hot air balloon,to robbing a bank.5. The way the story has been told - going back to the past, cuttingback to present again, making it a whole story at the end.6. In the later part of the movie where Hrithik shoots everyone with agun, it is in slow motion and the actual sounds like gun shots are notheard.The background music suits well and the lead actors are the strongpoint of the film. I watched it again and loved it more. This is thatkind of a movie! See it for what it offers, and not to expect to seewhat you want.

a journey from love to fate

a nice story to tell. but narration failed in parts. dialogs were notaudible enough. the lead actors performed for the potential. the moviestressed upon all elements like story , action , revenge , tragedy ,etc. but the problem was none was used for full potential. thecharacter of lead actor was too cheap. bank robbery , car chases ,building assault , train escape , etc was all good with filled action.the songs were mild and touching with beautiful scenarios. the firstnumber was spectacular and lead actor:s moves were mind blowing. asimple love story with cop chases and silence numbers. not a treat forIndian public. but definitely a watch. plus points: 1. songs2. actionminus points: 1. story which was blank and stale2. climax3. no comedy at all. except some ullu Ki Patti"4. no hot touches from actors for the public appreciation5. cat and dog chase as usual most common nowadays. final verdict: justabove average . can take a chance to go.

Photo Shoot

For my entire time in the movie, I was waiting for a plot to begin.Sadly the entire movie can be described within two sentences. It wasmore of a fancy photo shoot with amazing music playing in the background. I highly suggest going to google images and looking for kites,it will be a better experience. I can guarantee you will be pullingeither your hair or the person who was sitting next to you. Plot (SmallVersion): Hritik falls in love with Barbara Mori who is a rich casinoowner's Fiancé and they run, but are caught and in the end of themovie, everyone in the movie except Kangana Ranaut dies. Plot (ExtendedVersion): 1) Hritik is living in Vegas: running a dance class, tryingto find a quick buck. Cheats people and runs Green Card scams for aliving. 2) Kangana Ranaut(Rich, crook etc. etc., Casino owner'sdaughter) falls in love with Hritik in his class. 3) Kangana'sbrother's fiancé is Barbara Mori, with whom Hritik is already marriedthrough one of his Green card scams. 4) They fall in love and arecaught by Kagana's brother and they run as Kangana's brother is apowerful owner. 5) They are caught in Mexico and are both killed.The above plot isn't quite accurate but its sufficient to say it wascrappy movie not worth your time nor your money to buy the ticket.HIGHLY 'NOT' RECOMMENDED

An excellent well made movie

Kites indeed is a cinematic cocktail as earlier said in the review!! Ihave never been a fan of Hrithik Roshan but watching premier of it inNYC makes me surely one. Had it not been for my girl friend, I wouldhave surely missed such a well made movie. It was an enthrallingexperience and acting of Hrithik Roshan is just way too brilliant!! Itis the best bollywood movie I have ever seen in recent times. Barbarais Sizzling and very hot!!. We were on edge of the sits in last 25 minand there is a lot of X factor in this movie. Hrithik's dance was mindblasting and I never have seen such perfect acting, great choreographyand superb on screen chemistry in a long long time 10 Cheers to Kites!!

Kites is a train wreck.

Kites is a huge disappointment. I was hoping for a fun Bollywood actionfilm (like Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Don-The Chase Begins, or Krrish)and cameaway speechless...how could 'Kites' be this bad??? I'm a big fan ofBollywood and Hrithik's movies, but this was painful. We went onopening night here in Las Vegas - 28 people total witnessed thisdisaster. I really thought there would be a good sized crowd (perhapsnot as big as '3 Idiots' or 'My Name Is Khan' - but at least a halffull theater)...especially on opening night!There is nothing new and groundbreaking here - it's just a poorlycrafted action movie with the same special effects and stunts. Thismovie feels more out of date style wise than current.I've watched 200 plus Bollywood movies over the last 5 or 6 years andthis one is beyond awful. It's embarrassing. I could go on for daysabout how horrible this movie is (on all levels)...but no it's just notworth it. Hrithik Roshan over-acted right out of this film - pure cardboard. Henever looked comfortable and at times on autopilot. The script isterrible - for example...one minute there's a language barrier betweenthe two main characters, then there's a 10 minute conversationdeclaring how they want spend their lives together. Barbara Morispeaking Spanish (no English)and Hrithik weaving between Hindi andEnglish (and no Spanish). I've enjoyed Roshan's dancing quite a bit in past movies, but here heoffers nothing new. It's the same old rubber knee moves coupled withoutdated break dancing MTV style from the 1980's. Dressing Hrithik uplike Justin Timberlake was absolutely moronic.***Someone needs to get Hrithik back to studying the dance moves ofDick Van Dyke. If you watch both - you'll see where Hrithik's stylecomes from...way too similar. The music is forgettable and bland - nothing catchy at all. The songHrithik sings is so overproduced and processed - it could be anyone.The song itself is laughable.The one bright spot of this movie is Barbara Mori. She looked naturallycomfortable on screen and delivered the only interesting performance.She should do well in Bollywood or Hollywood.Lastly and most disturbing - why are all Caucasians in this movieportrayed as idiots? I wonder if this will even be discussed by themedia in the US or India?I've spent 9 minutes of my life writing my first review on IMDb. I'llget off my soap box now.

Sad

This movie is really boring. I wasted like so much money to watch itfirst day first show after reading the rave reviews on internet! Iwonder how people could stand the movie. It has no story, no plan, nodirection ! Yawn...Gosh I wonder how I actually went through thetorture. Just adding 3 languages to the movie does not make itwatchable and enjoyable! People staying US hear enough Spanish. I wouldsay that 2 songs in this movie are good, but it simply lacks a goodstoryline. Some characters like Gina have no essence in the movie.Random events take place. I wonder why the heroine locks Hritik aloneand then goes on to suicide. They could have together jumped off thecliff.This movie really was not up to my expectations. I would not recommendit.

Champagne Supernova Meets Bronzed Greek God

It is also distinctly different from the latest thread ofmovies trotting about in multiplexes; all claiming to be different, faraway from the clichés and formula ridden fare and supposedly meant forthe intelligentsia.Kites instead is a refreshing movie, a simple tale, well told. Thestory races back and forth as it delineates the story of two loversescaping the clutches of a ruthless, spurned lover. Now what sets it apart?HRITHIK: What do I write about a man who with his unbelievable goodlooks leaves you perennially deluged in a pool of drool, with yourknees that are so weak that you need help to hoist yourself. He lookslike some ethereal, bronzed god. His stunning looks alternate betweenbeing some Greek god to an amorous Mexican to an Italian charmer.Simply a visual treat! In terms of looks the man is galaxies ahead ofthe Bollywood heroes. Perfectly sculpted and chiseled it's almostcriminal to look so good!! And all this with dollops of innocence andbelievable love and longing brimming in the pools of his limpid seaweedyellowish- green eyes.His acting does in a few scenes meander towards being a wee bit tooearnest however we can forgive him because he more than makes up forall possible acting flaws with the final scene. The final scene withhis unruly, curled locks and beard, the chapped lips - he looks everybit the wronged man. He looks beautiful beyond imagination. The sceneis heart-wrenching, easily one of the most soul stirring scenes inrecent times.The dance sequence in the movie is a spectacle worthy of being a movieby itself, his fluid moves makes you wonder whatever cartilages andligaments make his body they are surely not what we lesser mortals aremade of. His body is like a pliant molten glass making some realitydefying moves which can enthrall you and leave you in a state ofshocked stupor.You almost need to rush out to gulp some fresh air, shake your head andenter the hall again to believe what you just saw was a man dancing!Immortal.BARBARA: Hmmm, let's see... what could possibly be an adequatedescription of her? Got it. She is like a champagne supernova! A starwhich bursts and becomes luminous in the process – bubbling witheffervescence. Barbara has been filmed more erotically and sensuously;proof of which are her abundant number of pictures floating on the net.But in this movie, she looks like a natural burst of sunshine which youwant to own and treasure. She does not look anything like some of ourplastic, pan caked actresses; instead she exudes a clean, natural andfreshly scrubbed look. Innocence and froth packed in that mischievousMediterranean-sea colored eyes topped with a twinkle. Her smile is soprecious with those perfect Pearl whites. Her gait and slender body toois effusive of an adventurous spirit in a gay gambol. Despite these descriptions, she does not make your heart race in atestosterone driven manner for she really does not look like a scorcheror give any come-hither looks. She just seems angelic. Her supposedlack of a very screen scorching type of beauty is made up with hereffortless acting. Pure bliss in these days to watch actresses act sostupendously well. It seems to be clearly a male domain when it comesto good acting. But Ms. Mori reposes your faith in the acting prowessof women.THEIR CHEMISTRY: It's not a set-the-screen-afire kind of a chemistrywhich threatens to reduce everything to cinders and strip you to yourbare minimum. It's not carnal, its classic .. it's pure love-untainted,a longing and inexplicable desire. In that sense the power of theirlove as depicted in the movie literally burns the screen down with itspurity and the unmatched manner in which it's etched. It's real too,whether it's the shadow dance or the small card tricks or thefork-pricked- bread-roll dance. Truly, these are the ways in whichreal, regular people express their fondness, their love, infuse somegood cheer and spirit in their love. It's real and not outrageous likehow they usually show in movies. Splendiferous depiction, I say!Usually such pulchritudinous stars run the risk of being exploited withlanguorous shots of their body or sometimes these ridiculous clowns ofmovies stars do a blatant exhibition of their suddenly spruced anddusted physiques. The director here steers clear of any such antics. There is just one scene of Hrithik's bronzed body and some barely therescenes of Barbara's skin, ample cleavage and bust excluded. The movie is ably supported by Nicholas brown as the menacing villain -the bane of our lovely, lead pair's life. Exuding the right amount ofmenace without going overboard, his rich playboy act is entirelyconvincing.Yuri Suri, essaying the role of Jamal, the sidekick of the villain,also acts brilliant with his eyes giving away the empathy he feels forthe star-crossed lovers.VERDICT: Kites is indeed a movie which can plume its chest and claim tobe on par with slick well directed Hollywood movies. It's a movie whichis made with passion, belief and resolve and every frame exudes it.Go soar away!!

Major Disappointment.. =

This movie gets four stars, which it deserves. One point for theinteresting and vibrant locations, one point for the songs andbackground music, one for the action scenes, and one for HrithikRoshan. The introduction of the story is the usual, as you would expect. Set inAmerica, Jay (Hrithik Roshan) is here to make some money, but failseach time he tries. Enter Gina (Kangana Ranaut) who says she loves him,but he turns her down. What he doesn't know is that shes one of therichest people in the city. Stunned at his luck, he goes back and asksher to be his dance partner for the upcoming competition. She agrees,and they become closer. Now, when Gina's dad meets Jay, he asks him to attend his son Tony'sengagement, and that is where the story makes some progress. He meetshis wife that he married for green card.. Natasha (Barbara Mori) orknown as Linda. From there on, its pretty much predictable. The love, the action ,everything looks as if its straight out of a Hollywoood movie. BarbaraMori does pretty well, Hrithik Roshan acts well but is just alright,though his dance moves are impressive. Kangana Ranaut is a hugesurprise.The PROBLEM with this movie is not the story, but with the way thestory is portrayed on screen. If they focused on one thing rather thanthree, the movie would have worked. There are three main conflicts.Gina and Jay, Tony and Natasha, and of course, their love story. If only one of these was focused on, it might have worked. The ending,is also pathetic. You think to yourself "what the hell is going on" Asafter you walk out of the movie theater, you realize that ending madeno sense at all.Worth watching once.

A breath taking experience and ERA to begin.

HI,I felt lucky to watch the sneak peek of this magnum opus....and feltprivileged after that....this movie goes from a truly touching lovestory to comedy(which isn't loud as other bollywood stuff) and thenamazing thriller ending...!!This movie fulfills all the expectations brought by the heavyanticipation and aura created by its makers since it was announced.Hrithik-Barbara-Kangana-Kabir all are well fit in the roles anddelivers their best till date. Flexy with Hrithik @ the end of themovie will make you think that this man is the Avatar of MJ inIndia...!All i can say @ the end is...."Kites" has it all,that a movie lover canexpect from a movie...Feel the love and the creation of Anurag basu,one of the finestdirector in India now...a must go whether you like Hrithik or Bollywoodor not.

Not what I expected

I am a huge Hrithik fan (loved Krrish, Jodhaa Akbar and Dhoom2) andwith all the hype of this being a cross-over movie I was somewhatshocked at the final product. I want to be completely respectful to theactors and give proper respect where it's due but if you want to do acrossover film from Bollywood to Hollywood this isn't the way to do it.In my opinion, for all it's cheesiness and some painfully bad actingand ridiculous fight scenes Dhoom 2 did a much better job of being acrossover movie. I LOVE that movie and all of the music and still playit regularly on my iPod. If I was going to recommend a Hrithik movie tosomeone who'd never seen a Bollywood movie I would choose Dhoom2 overKites.During the first half of the movie Kites was trying way too hard toconvince us of their attraction and there were WAY too many slow motiongazing longingly scenes without genuine chemistry between thecharacters. I really didn't care if they got together. I actually liked the second half of the movie which is why I'm givingit five stars because you actually start to believe they care for oneanother and they had a good vibe. The action helped because thesappiness of the first half was nauseating.I think Kites felt somewhat choppy and there was too much pressure puton the love story. You have to have more to hook an audience. Westernaudiences have a hard time relating to that kind of emotional angst theway it was portrayed in this movie. I'm all for a good love story butthis was over the top at times.

Nice Bollywood Experiment

I would give Kites 4/5. Its truly an experimental movie. One thing is;its not that easy to experiment in such a way. We have to appreciatethe makers. Anurag basu has done a good job. There are no Rakesh Roshanshades in the movie. Hrithik could be more better in few scenes. He hasto improve in them. Script doesn't demand more for Kangana. Barbara iscool. Girl next door in her country. Rajesh Roshan worked with AnuragBasu but not with his brother. So the music goes Anurag's way.Cinematography, Production design, Background Score, costumes, editing,make up, visuals with color are good. But the script(writing) and thescreen play should have been much better adding some more elementswhich could commercialize the film more. This should be a lesson for acommercially weak script for high budget films made in a couple ofyears or more time. Definitely, it could have been better if the scriptis fine tuned. Finally its worth watching for the effort the makershave kept.

This is GOLD, only watch the INTERNATIONAL English Version

I am not into dumb Musical movies, especially Bollywood ones and when Igot the Chance for Special screening of Kites, I simply turned down.But I decided to give a try for it's International Version crafted bythe XMEN 3 LAST STAND director Brett Ratner.I expected a mediocre typical Bollywood Stupid Musical Dance movie, butthis one broke the mold. This movie will be remembered as theTrendsetter of Hindi films in the International Grounds.It is a Rollar Coaster film, but with a Heart. I don't want to spoilall the story but it reminds me some of the movies like Stallone/SharonStone's Specialist, Mr & Mrs Smith, Bonnie & Clyde, even a Hindi filmDaud, but all those stands down in-front of Kites.I don't know how the Hindi version would look like, how theconservative audience react to Kites. With some Intense Physical scenesand unique narration which really required for the story material, Ithink this movie is going to be a "Love It or Hate It" category.The thing I don't like in this movie is the Love story itself, becauseit's too aimed for Female "Twilight" Audience who worships Romance.Other than that it's a Total Adrenaline movie, with great cast and goodlocations. The main leading man Hrithik Roshan I think is a welltrained actor, with great physique and fight/dance abilities. Thiscould be his "Enter The Dragon" in Hollywood.Also I have to give credit for Brett Ratner for his experimentalRemixed version for the Movie. With no Reshoots, just with the Originaland unused material he made the perfect Crossover Product for an Asianfilm. By hiring composer Graeme Revell the movie got a new dimensionand a fresh soul. The action scores and emotional themes heard in themovie were so brilliant, it definitely going to be Graeme Revell's bestwork after Daredevil and Freddy vs. Jason.My recommendation only watch the International Cut. It's more cooler,edgy and Real. It is much shorter than the Asian version I heard andmuch stylish. Also it got no Dumb Song dance numbers (except the lastone, which was done brilliantly by lead actor Hrithik Roshan).Anyway I give this movie 9 out of 10.Kites = The Next Level
