Plot Summary:
Another DC Comics hero gets a workout in Jonah Hex, the movie incarnation of DCs scar-faced bounty hunter, played here by Josh Brolin. Out to exact revenge on the varmint who wrecked his face and killed his family, Jonah also gets yanked back into the service of his country--against his will, of course. Said varmint, Quentin Turnbull, is played by John Malkovich, although the more spirited villainy is provided by Turnbulls tattooed Irish assistant (Inglourious Basterdss Michael Fassbender plays the part with the kind of energy noticeably absent from the other cast members). In this 80-minute hodgepodge of a movie, Jonah regularly checks in with his lady friend, a prostitute (Megan Fox) whose bordello room has a remarkable amount of glamour lighting, and in his spare time investigates Turnbulls plot to use a super weapon against Washington, D.C. By giving Jonah a halfway-interesting supernatural talent--he can talk with the dead, by placing his hands on them--the film adds a kicky new wrinkle, but its not enough to improve the mangled storytelling or the sleepwalking pace. Brolins makeup is impressive, but in scarring his cheek and pulling his mouth back in a grotesque grimace, the prosthetics designers have robbed the actor of any ability to express himself through speech. Kind of a miscalculation there, and typical of this movies tendency to shoot itself in the face. DVD and First HD 720p PC, Mac, PS3 and XBOX 360 COMPATIBLE

Losted in Heavy Metal
I always try to keep short and to say more when I'm about to giveopinion... Hex was one of my favourite characters from comics and I'm glad to seesomeone decided to make a film. Jonah Hex the movie have everythingfrom the spirit of the comics. Acting is good and all keep the line ofthe characters from the beginning to the end. But the movie suffers form some bad decisions that makes experience notso good as it could be. The worst part is the light in all nightscenes, and this film have nights scenes a lot. And the second majorbad thing is the music score. I don't know who was so smart to mixapples and oranges and who was responsible to allowed that mix, buteven the amateur director have to know that no one put heavy metal inwestern movie. Simply, don't go.One peace of advice to all "wannabe" directors: Sometimes the strongestparts can be without music if you know how to lead them to stand all bythemselves.Like this, the film have mediocre final score and some parts that couldbe very strong and long to remember are blown by terrible music scoreand even worst lighting.

A Missed Opportunity
I really wanted to like this movie. I grew up with the Jonah Hex comicsin my youth and was excited when they announced that they were making amovie out of it.I figured something had gone amiss when in the opening scenes Jonahused his horse mounted Gatling guns to take out some of the baddies. Ithought the use of other special weapons made the feel of the movievery gimmicky, like a cowboy James Bond. The real Jonah got by on hismean disposition and a pair of Navy Colts.I also thought it was a mistake to try and include some of thesupernatural powers that this Jonah has, like talking to the dead.To make matters worse, the lighting in the movie made it very hard tosee a lot of the scenes. I know they were trying to convey a dark andmoody atmosphere but it just irritated because I wasn't able to seewhat was going on.The Special effects were very cheesy, felt very much like Van Helsing.I think the reliance on special effects added nothing to the movie andmade it feel like a very cheap production. All in all, a very unsatisfying movie and it could have been so muchbetter.

Countries dont have Sheriffs
Greetings again from the darkness. Had been looking forward to this onebecause of the unique source material with a twist on the traditionalwestern revenge. Somehow Josh Brolin provided a brooding, yetinteresting character despite being surrounded by ridiculous ideas, amateurish directing, a boring story and some atrocious supportingacting. This one simply falls flat. While Brolin deserves the benefit of the doubt ... I am sure his visionwas better than director Jimmy Hayward's ... there is no explanationfor the "super weapon" or the "love interest". The super weapon isexplained as an Eli Whitney invention, while there is just no excusefor Megan Fox and her cardboard performance as the hooker with a heartonly for Hex.The other thing that seems pretty basic is that revenge story needs astrong basis for a burning need to get even. Here we get a weak bad guyplayed by John Malkovich. Malkovich's character kills Hex's familyAFTER Hex had killed Malkovich's son. Oh yeah, almost forgot, Jonah Hexcan communicate with the dead. Which is good, because there won't beany live people in the audience once word spreads on how lousy thismovie is. Such a shame.

Seventy-three minutes, not counting the end credits. It may take longer driving to and from the theater... Normally such brevity is welcome, especially with Westerns since Kevin Costner already thinned our patience, three hours at a time.

Potential for great summer popcorn flick wasted
I wasn't really expecting much out of this film. And I thought that itcoming out the same weekend as Toy Story 3 was pretty laughable. But itseemed like fun, so I thought I'd give it a try. Sadly, it turned outpretty much how I expected, and it's no wonder there was such littleadvertisement paid to this film. Jonah Hex is pretty straightforward in it's story. Jonah Hex witnessedhis family die at the hands of John Turnbull. Unfortunately, for Hex,Turnbull died mysteriously in a hotel fire...or did he. Turns outTunrbull is still alive and a danger to the US. Now, Jonah must get hisrevenge and save the US.A lot of people have compared this film to The Wild Wild West.Thankfully, this is not that film. Granted, it's not all that groundedin reality (actually, it's not grounded in reality much at all), butthere's no giant walking spiders or head slicing, flying discs. Theaction here is pretty ridiculous and outrageous, but at the same isfun. It helps that Josh Brolin, as the titular Jonah Hex, is prettydamn cool. He plays off Dirty Harry pretty well, with only a few oneliners and a pretty well drawn out character. In fact, I would say thatif they ever do a remake of Dirty Harry, I would vote for Brolin totake up the reins. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the cast is notas good. John Malkovich plays Turnbull lazily. Sure, he's not as hammyas he could have been, which I am grateful for, but I can't help butfeel that he isn't the least bit interested in what he is doing. Andwith the kind of character he's supposed to be, there should be morepassion, but it's sadly missing. As for the third big name, Megan Foxdoes what she does best and looks hot in some slutty western dresses. For a film like this, I guess you can't ask much more from her.The action is obviously where this film is at, and it mostly delivers. It's far from the biggest action film this summer, but there are somepretty outrageous and entertaining pieces, like the Gatling gun-mountedhorse and the dynamite gun scenes known from the trailer. And whenthere isn't action going on, Brolin saves the film. Besides the action,he is the best thing here. I would also even argue that the film does agood job translating the comic book style. While it could have beenmuch better, it could also have been a lot worse. I guess I can atleast be thankful for that.Suffice to say, I pretty much got what I thought I would get out of thefilm: a cool Josh Brolin, a hot Megan Fox, a wooden John Malkovich, anda lot of crazy action. Was I satisfied? I suppose. It was a decent wayto kill about an hour and a half. Would I run out to the theater forthis? Nah. If you really care about the ticket price and your time, Iwould just wait to rent it on DVD.

Dramatically Underrated
After finally seeing this movie, a delay not borne from lack of desire, one quickly wonders how it ever received such bad reviews. It succeeds on many levels. First and foremost it is entertaining, precisely what any patron wants and in my case fully expected. What I did not expect was the keen amount of action, all superbly done with a modicum of CGI. Alas when people hear action, they often think big and dumb. Not the case here. It is parceled out prudently, bringing warranted attention to the brisk pacing. All the major characters enhance its appeal. Jonah Hex is portrayed true to form as the gruff bounty hunter, John Malkovich fiendishly provides the evil villain, and Megan Fox is fine. She is not the movie's focus and plays her supporting role effectively. The only area of criticism is the talking dead scenes. I had vaguely heard of them beforehand, but was still caught off guard. Its first instance is certainly a shock, temporarily derailing what until then was an unflawed movie. Its second occurrence is not nearly as startling and actually works well due to the engaging dialogue. Indeed the entire movie enjoys a taut and at times humorous screenplay. Even its much criticized eighty minute length is more a strength than a weakness, ending properly and not dragging on like many others. It all adds up to an enjoyable movie for Hex devotees and new initiates alike and one deserving prominent billing on any underrated list.

Spectacular
The U.S. Government gives bounty hunter Jonah Hex (Brolin) an ultimatumthat will free him of warrants on his head if he stops his arch enemyQuentin Turnbull (Malkovich) from activating a deadly nation killingweapon. This was almost like those Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s with ClintEastwood. Remember them? Hmmmmm  ..tough room. Well, there are two maindifferences between this movie and those movies. The main character inhere has a name, Jonah Hex; and Jonah can talk to the dead when heneeds information. We like a little supernatural stuff from time totime. Yeah, sometimes he digs them up to chat. The action in here is spectacular although there were too many scenesthat were in the dark and it was hard to see who was doing what to who.No matter. We knew Jonah Hex would come out on top ..most of the time. Some scenes may have been cut out when Jonah was almost left for deadand the Indians, again, treated his wounds. That lasted about 2-minutesand the next thing I saw was Jonah on a horse going to where Turnbullwas. Talk about a fast healer. Well, we did say there was somesupernatural stuff in here. John Malkovich is the bad guy but, for my money, he was too subdued andwasn't bad enough. I almost liked him, and that is not good. Miscast?Hmmmm     Megan Fox as Lilah was okay as was the rest of the cast. But, AidanQuinn as President Grant gave an A Game performance. He reminded me ofRobert Foxworth and that's high praise. I used to read comics when younger but I never heard of Jonah Hex. Myloss. I hope this character stays around a while and Josh Brolin isperfect in the role. Hey, we need a no nonsense hero. Clint Eastwooddoesn't do these anymore. One more thing. The cinematography was also spectacular, and the greenfoliage was probably the best color greens I have ever seen in a movie. How did they do that? Very impressive. Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: No F-bombs. Some softstuff.

Characters as flat as a comic book board and John Gallagher, Jr. and Will Arnetts subplot got deleted! Boo!
This review probably has spoilers.I feel like this movie was a sequel, with us jumping into the action midway. I spent the course of the movie wondering what exactly was going on or why I should care about the characters. I actually went back to watch the beginning to see if I had missed crucial scenes, but I hadn't.In the opening, Hex's family was murdered and he was branded by an evil John Malkovich, but this doesn't pack much of a wallop because we don't know why exactly this is happening, other than Jonah Hex stuck to his principles in war or something. This scene was supposed to be the crux of Hex's past and motivation, yet I thought it was pretty tame--I never had to look away and I'm quite wimpy. I'm not one for gratuitous violence, but perhaps going for the PG-13 rating was a mistake if the full despair of the main character wasn't revealed to us. For goddness' sake, his family was burned alive: I should have been able to feel his torment. However, the movie was quite violent at other parts and the director seemed to be indicating how cool this was by playing some sort of rock music and having Hex shoot guns that I'm pretty sure were not technologically possible at that time. I thought the supernatural element had promise (Hex can apparently talk with dead people), but the background behind this was given less than 30 seconds in the opening sequence. In short, Hex almost died after his encounter with Malkovich and some medicine men almost brought him back but not quite all the way. I found this explanation inadequate. Another aspect of the movie which was not fully fleshed out was Hex's relationship with Megan Fox's character. She is a quite gorgeous bordello worker who is in love with a man with severe scars. How did they meet? Why does she let him keep coming back for more? How exactly does he feel about her cavorting with clients when he's away? These questions were never answered. Also, Megan Fox does not require soft "glamour" lighting during her close-ups! It was quite distracting. I've always thought Josh Brolin looked fiercely handsome in a cowboy hat. I was sad his pretty face got maimed, and even sadder that I then could not understand what he said in the rest of the movie because of his scars. Note to filmmakers: it is necessary for moviegoers to actually be able to understand the main character. It was also quite distracting to see a sinewy band of flesh appearing to hold his jaw together on one side. I just kept worrying it would break. The inconsistent audio track drove me insane. I found myself constantly fiddling with the remote, turning it up to hear almost inaudible conversations, and then turning it down frantically when loud gunshots scared my cat and annoyed my landlord upstairs. So perhaps the movie had brilliant dialogue and I missed it, but I kinda doubt it. Over the summer, I read a hilarious interview with Will Arnett and John Gallagher, Jr. which motivated me to watch Jonah Hex. (In the film, Arnett played the union lieutenant and Gallagher was his second-in- command.) It seemed like they would have decent roles: Gallagher was supposed to have a man-crush on Hex and follow him around like a puppy dog, and Arnett was supposed to be mildly jealous that his lackey admired Hex so much. As I watched the movie, I waited for this subplot, but Arnett only had a few scenes and Gallagher mainly stood around looking cute and concerned. I then thought if I rewatched their scenes and overinterpreted every line, I could see the relationships which had been described in the interview...This only left me confused, and I later found out that a ton of their scenes were cut. How sad, as both actors described in the interview the laborious process of learning how to ride horses for the movie. The film was 73 minutes long--how could they not have time for a subplot with a Tony-award-winning actor who grew facial hair just for the movie?! (Gallagher won a Tony award for featured actor in 2007 for Spring Awakening.) Arnett is mainly a comedic actor known for his role on Arrested Development who also deserved more screen time, and he was convincing as a snarky lieutenant--I would have obeyed his commands without question. Although Gallagher only had like 5 lines, at least he said them loudly and clearly and I could understand what he was saying, unlike poor Josh Brolin. The movie was rather dry, and the subplot with the union soldiers could have added some humanity and humor. I protest the deletion of Will Arnett's and John Gallagher, Jr.'s scenes and kindly request a director's cut of them riding horses and doing other soldier-like activities. In addition, some deleted scenes which actually added some much-needed character development for Jonah Hex would be appreciated.

A digest version of a feature film
When the film ended and the credits began, I looked in disbelief at thetimer. 72 minutes ???? Who makes a live action big budget film that isonly 72 minutes long? I haven't seen such a short flick since 1963'sDAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.Admittedly the film is not padded. While the filmmakers could have comeup with something, anything to give the film some bulk, the scenes thatare there all briskly move the action along. The deleted scenes on theDVD would have added nothing to the film aside from a few extraminutes. The film seems a "Western Noir" version of 1999's WILD WILD WEST. Theplots are similar-- a special government agent with ties to the CivilWar is sent by President Grant to seek out a renegade ex-Confederateofficer who now possesses a super-weapon that he'll use to kill Grantand conquer the US. And the hero is aided by a heroine who appears tobe a "soiled dove" but whom can handle herself in a fight. At leastJONAH HEX does a better job at explaining the title character'sbackground. The main difference the tone of this film. Where WILD WILD WEST was anaction comedy, this is a very dark film. Jonah Hex is not a jokesterand the few light comments he makes are in character and still verydark. The acting is negligible. Megan Fox continues to show she looks greatbut can't act her way out of a paper bag. Malkovich is pretty muchphoning in his performance as a generic terrorist leader. Fassbinderchews the scenery as his psychopathic Irish assassin. Lance Reddick(from FRINGE) plays a Noble Black Man. But Josh Brolin does a very goodjob with his title role. He plays Jonah Hex with a weariness anddedication that befits this character. He may seem to be underplayinghere but in fact he's struck just the right tone. The geographical sense of the film is pretty bizarre. Folks seem ableto ride their horses fairly swiftly between points like the West, NewOrleans, and Washington DC. Somewhow the villains are able to transportswiftly and unseen a multi-barreled cannon the size of an M1 Abramstank. And Washington DC is now apparently on the southern shore of abay.

Different, but Good...
This review is from: Jonah Hex [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I was really expecting this movie to be a lot like Will Smith's Wild Wild West, but to my pleasant suprise, it wasnt. Very Dark and Gritty, lots of action, the weapons used were a lil far fetched for a movie set in 1890's, but then again its a DC Comics Based Character right? Very Good Movie would definately go see the sequel at the theater (if they ever make one.).Dan.

what a waste
This review is from: Jonah Hex (DVD) this is what happens when you get "action movie" writers to make a screenplay for what should be more of a horror western. generic plot, generic malkovich bad guy, and barely any time spent on character development. i was going to spare the director since he did OK considering what he had to work with, but then i read on IMDB that he was responsible for the music. it wasn't bad music, but it had no place in this movie.

Pretty Far From Hexcellent!!!
The new DC Comics movie "Jonah Hex" qualifies as a saddle-soresupernatural horse opera. Imagine the classic Clint Eastwood western"The Outlaw Josey Wales" combined with the abominable Will Smith epic"Wild Wild West" and you'll have a rough idea about what to expect fromthis outlandish, often incoherent, half-baked travesty. Despite itsPG-13 rating, "Jonah Hex" boasts some rather brutal violence, but theconsequences of the violence are rarely depicted. Josh Brolin toplinesa capable cast as a cursed Confederate officer who has endured anear-death experience and possesses some bizarre powers. Ostensibly, this Warner Brothers' release brings into the limelight a little knownDC Comics' character that appeared initially in the 1970s.Unfortunately, "Gamer" scenarists Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor havechanged several significant events and characters. First, we learnlittle about our anti-hero's origins. Second, Neveldine and Taylorneglect to delineate Jonah Hex's obvious supernatural capability. Mindyou, Jonah Hex isn't immortal, but he can lay hands on dead men andtemporarily resurrect them to satisfy his curiosity. Third, whatevercharisma Neveldine and Taylor had going for them in their "Gamer" aswell as their "Crank" movies never reaches the screen in "Jonah Hex."Reportedly, Neveldine and Taylor were supposed to helm "Jonah Hex," butthey left the film after creative differences with the studio. An American Civil War prologue depicts Jonah Hex as a valiantConfederate officer leading raids against Union troops. During hisvoice over narration, Jonah announces that war and he were made foreach other. Things drastically change later when Hex refuses to obey anorder to burn a civilian hospital with the patients trapped inside. Theaction is relayed in expository dialogue between our hero and a deadman. When Hex refused to carry out the order, he shot his best friend,Jeb Turnball (Jeffrey Dean Morgan of "Watchmen"), and Jeb's father,General Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich of "Shadow of a Vampire"),tracks Hex down after the war to exact vengeance. They tie Hex to anx-shaped cross and raze his house with his wife and young child trappedinside. Before Turnball leaves, the heartless villain wields smolderingbranding iron with his initials and scorches the right side of Hex'sface. Crow Indians find the tortured Hex later and perform variousritualistic ceremonies that endow our hero with supernatural powers.Hex appropriates a tomahawk, warms it until it glows, and burned offthe initials. As a result, our vengeance-driven hero's face is twistedinto a sneer on one side with a hole in his jaw near his teeth.Everybody that confronts Hex bothers him about what happened to hiscountenance. Usually, Hex kills them. Sadly, our protagonist learns tohis chagrin that Turnball has died in a hotel fire. Anyhow, Hex turnsto a life of bounty hunting after Turnball's demise. Hex establishes arelationship a frontier call girl, Lilah (Megan Fox of "Jennifer'sBody"), who is crazy about him. Hex gets into trouble when he arrives in a two-bit town to get hisbounty money for killing four brothers. Initially, the lawmen are notprepared to pay him off. They see only three bodies. Hex has the threecorpses tied behind his horse and he has dragged them through thedesert. He expects them to pay him the vast sum of $100 for thequartet. One of the lawman observes that there was a fourth brother.Hex slings a bag with a head in it at the lawman, and they decide notto honor their agreement with him. Instead, they aim to collect the$500 on Hex's head. A man with a rifle in the church bell tower blastsaway at Hex, but he is a terrible marksman. The lawmen empty theirholsters to fire, too. Unveiling two Gatling guns hanging on eitherside of his horse, Hex wipes out everybody. Never mind that no horsecould tote around such heavy armament. Concessions have to be made inlarger-than-life movies like "Jonah Hex," but Haywood doesn't makeanything look cool. The Army arrives after as Hex is getting out of bedwith Lilah. They conscript him into the military at gun point. Theyhave news that Quentin Turnball is alive. President Grant (Aiden Quinnof "Practical Magic") thinks Hex is the ideal hombre to track downmurderous Turnball. Meantime, Turnball steals a massive, multi-barreled, revolving cannondevised by Eli Whitney, Sr., that will enable the user to flatten anentire town. The military has concealed the weapon. They feel that itspower is too devastating. Predictably, Quentin Turnball thinksotherwise. He hijacks the train and uses dynamite to blow the Federaltroops guarding the weapon sky high along with the civilian passengers.Women and children are among the soldiers. Hex exploits his power tomake the dead loquacious and learns from Jeb that Quentin Turnbull isholed up at Fort Resurrection. At the fort, Hex boards the ironcladship equipped with the weapon of vast destruction. Turnbull and his menare about to launch the ship when Hex shoots it out with the villains, but the wily villain escapes. Turnball plans to steam his warshipwithin range of Washington, D.C., and then open fire on the centennialcelebration.Of course, Hex puts the hex on Turnbull. Basically, "Jonah Hex" suffersfrom an incoherent script. We are never told exactly why the villainsmust fire five cannonballs and then fire a gold cannon ball thatdetonates the other cannon balls. The best thing that "Horton Hears aWho!" director Jimmy Hayward does with this formulaic western is reinit in to a mere 80 minutes. Nothing about this oater is memorable. Thedialogue is forgettable, and poor Josh Brolin looks like somebody glueda slice of pepperoni pizza to his face. Megan Fox is sexy, but sheisn't around long enough to make much of an impression. A bearded,long-haired John Malkovich rounds out the cast as the homicidalterrorist.

Loved it!
Don't know what everybody is complaining about?! This movie was funny,action-packed, great to look at, and the acting was much better thaneverybody says. Josh Brolin was great, Megan Fox was quite good andhello people, it has Malkovich as a bad guy! I am not a snob but wentin with very low expectations because of what I have read about JonahHex and was so absolutely pleasantly surprised! Within the first 3minutes I knew I had NOT made a mistake watching it. I really enjoyedthis movie, possibly as much as Planet Terror or The Missing. I ratedit a 9 out of 10 because the low ratings are totally unfair. Give it achance if you like comic books and/or westerns. A really good story anda fun twist on a western. I hope they make a sequel, so there...

Wild, Wild Hex!
After reading several mixed reviews on Jonah Hex, I was a bit hesitant to watch it. But the film was not bad all.Sure it's not "according to Hoyle" per the DC Comics canon, but so what? It's a western. And what a western it was -- very dark however, and not a lot of humor in it. Even so, Jonah Hex as a man whose only sin was to disobey Confederate orders to burn a hospital and killed those who got in his way, was himself forced to watch his own wife and son die at the hands of his commanding officer, Turnbull. Hex was tortured and half-dead; through some Indian magic and medicine, Hex gained the ability to talk to the dead. I guess the pun horse (or ghost) whisperer comes to mind! The film does not overuse this feature and is mostly a shoot-em-up, gun slinging story about a man who is given a second chance, although is methods are not exactly moral or legal. It is chilling when Hex is told by a man he had killed some time back that Hell has a special treatment for him. He can wait. First, he must hunt down Turnbull and stop him from using an extraordinary weapon that can level cities. The fact of a weapon of such magnitude and thus the South shall rise again was a bit unreal and I don't believe such was possible in 1876 (the time of this story). Megan Fox plays Lilah the prostitute and though her part is small, she looks great playing it. Bottom Line:The whole film is stylized, like watching a slicked-up version of The Wild, Wild West. I have no idea if this film will ever see a sequel but the only thing wrong with it was its darkness and unrealistic premises. The beginning of the film with its horrific start and torture and burning of family is indeed shocking. The animation at the beginning is neat and stylized and the fading into reality is fun to watch. The whole bounty hunter thing is touched on but not played up enough. The rapid fire editing and dark (underexposed) picture in many parts is hard to follow. And things are burning. Lots of fire and burning. Sadly, the generally unfavorable reviews and the film not even getting close to breaking even with its $47 million budget could explain why we won't see a sequel soon. If the film stuck to the original Jonah Hex comics and drew a story out of that, stick to more Western and less hocus pocus (and a different gal than the cute but couldn't act her way out of a tight corset Megan Fox) then we would have seen a fun film worth watching. Still, fun to watch for its dark themes! Wish there was more gun slinging and humor, and less ghost/mystery stuff. Oh yeah, a more coherent plot would have been nice, too. DVD: The DVD had a bunch of previews for upcoming films, but no special features, no "making of" or anything. Might as well rent than buy! Other Jimmy Hayward Films:Horton Hears a Who (Widescreen and Full-Screen Single-Disc Edition)(Jimmy had a bunch of films he's worked on as an animator, though, such as:Monsters, Inc. (Four-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]Toy StoryFinding Nemo (Two-Disc Collector's Edition))

Lots of set pieces do not a movie make
I have not read any Jonah Hex comics. I saw this previewed at Comic Con and it looked interesting. The first indication that something might be off was Josh Brolin's tepid endorsement that went something like "some will love it, some with hate it, many won't understand it. It's good for what it is". I do enjoy comic adaptations and wasn't turned off by the supernatural elements (although puzzled by the "Snake-man" and the crows following Hex around). Basically, these were a bunch of mildly entertaining set pieces that had very thin connecting plots. There was very little tension, bad dialogue, character motivation that was thin (although the murder of their son and families should have been horrific, it generated no emotion at all). The gunfights had no tension, the set pieces were flat, and we really didn't care about anyone. Brolin did O.K. with a script that didn't ask him to do much. M. Fassbender was the most interesting character and had little screen time, Malkovich, whom I love, was not effectual at all. I don't know if it was the script, the directors or that they slapped this together, but it was the worse and most diaappointing movie I have seen in the last 12 months.I see good reviews posted here, I assume by 12 year-old Meagan Fox groupies, but trust most of the reviewers - it's really bad if you know what a decent movie should look like. But watch for yourself and then write your own review. Good luck!
