Whats NOT to like?
I suppose I favor comments TO someone else's review.Saying THAT, I'm writing THIS for the EXPRESS reasonof making the five-star vote exceed the TWO & THREEstar total...THIS MOVIE satisfied:This 62-year-old.My 56-year-old wife. Our 16-year-old niece. Our 2-year old cat ((liked the lizard and puppy!))Like I already said--"What's NOT to like?"Buy it... I did...on Blu-ray... I admit it, I bought this at work instead of HERE... I do own it! It isprobably better on a big TV... loved it!...on mine.

One of the best movies Ive seen!
I was excited to see this movie because of the trailer, but was turneda little off when I read some of the reviews. I couldn't have been morepleasantly surprised! It had great action, a great love story, andgreat eye candy! The special effects were really cool, the acting waspretty good, and the story line was intriguing, and I don't whyeveryone said it was cliché. So not the case! I've never seen a movieor read a book like it. I think too many people expect movies to bethought provoking and insightful. Whatever happened to being justentertained? I'm excited for the 2nd book to come out and I really hopethat they come out with a 2nd movie!! It probably helped that I saw itin the D-Box seats (the new seats that move with the movie), buteveryone I've talked to has LOVED the movie!

Predictable movie like anything of its kind
story unfolds as expected to develop...no surprises. It clearly showsthat anyone can be directors, as it's so predictable. Doomed alienscome to survive on earth... low budget movie that says boring fromstart to end... actor's dumb and creepy smile gives me goose-bumps allthe time.. Monsters from CG are just not scary at all...the bad alienshave funny characters...and why bad guys always look bad, and goodguys/gals are handsome and pretty? no surprise that they extinct. saveyour money, stay away from the movie, which most likely will come inseries. For sure I won't follow up with any more, as the appetite hassaid all. I would recommend movies like Fantastic Four...

If Chinese Menus could talk, theyd leave out 6...
This was a decent teenage science fiction fantasy with enjoyably wackyvillains.'Number Six' was a crap actress, though. She doesn't have any lines inthe first two-thirds of the film; in her only previous appearance, thecamera frames her as she strides away from an explosion whilst a rocksong blares from the soundtrack... This appears to be a mindlessaesthetic decision, until later on she opens her mouth and you suddenlyrealise why they made the right choice in having her say as little aspossible. At the apex of the film, her character's only real functionis to wrap her gums around a few quips; alas, she even manages to ruinthose by demonstrating her complete tin ear for the rhythm of dialogue. Her line readings were horrifically inept. The film as a whole was OK though, if you don't immediately object tothe concept of 'Twilight with aliens in it, instead of vampires'.

Very good action movie
I don't know about others, but I really liked it. I watched this late, late night when I was somewhat drowsy. Usually, I would have alreadyfallen asleep watching a movie that late, but this one kept me goingwith curiosity and suspense. I just have to know what will happen next.Action packed film with great acting. Special effects was on par withsome of the greatest movies. Storyline is good, but I have seen better. Not bad overall and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. It's notsomething I would go see at the theaters, but on DVD, yes, it's a mustsee. It reveals a lot of emotional issues we deal with in our youth andsomehow still manage to make an action thriller film. Pretty neat.

eh.. probably the most accurate review of this movie youll find
Had two action scenes (so I'm giving it two stars) that lasted about 10seconds each. I really don't see why its getting so many good reviews. One guy on here even said ... "I came in expecting to see a sillysci-fi film with " Twilight " overtones and instead got.. a fairly wellconstructed film." Which is a LIE. I;m pretty sure this guy works forthe movie companies or something because the movie was 90% TwilightOVERtones and 5% sci fi/action. They really led us on with thepreviews, I mean if all trailers were to depict their movies with thesame accuracy then Justin Beiber's Never say never's trailer would behim going into the future to fight evil space elves and rescue aprincess from an evil space elf emperor who only turns out to be himfrom the future turns into an elf after a horrible science experimentgone wrong. And it was all a test so he could be proved worthy ofgetting with the sexy and smart main love interest and defend theuniverse against Klingons. All in all the movie provided me with plentyof time to ponder the mysteries of the universe while I waited forsomething to happen, and my money back after I decided to vandalize themovie theater for playing that horrible movie

An empty shell of a movie
This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) Perhaps the book explains more. This movie left me wondering why and what was going on. I was was certainly not expecting Citizen Kane here but if you pick a movie like this to watch a little more substance would be nice regardless.

Great action flick!
I was lucky and saw an advanced screening on this film and I was halfdisappointed and half impressed. First of all, I read the book and Ijust thought that they left out a lot of detail from the book, some bigones too. But, the visuals and action is what kept me on my seat. Thestory, I thought they did a decent job with, but if they sticked withparts of the story in the book, it would have been a better film. Theycould have made the movie longer and added some other details from thebook. I mean, in the book, Henri and John can open the chest he hidestogether. They open it in the book, and Henri lays John down on thetable and pulls out a rock like crystal from the chest and it appearsas their planet, Lorien, and with that, Henri shows what happened ontheir planet the day it was invaded by the Mogadoriens, visually. Theycould have put that part in the movie, I thought it was a somewhat bigpart. But overall, a decent flick if you have nothing else to do orsee. Check it out, I Am Number Four!

a lot of awful movies rolled in one
It's twilight meets x-men meets crap sandwich!!! Idk who this wouldappeal too? The plot is thin as peach fuzz and typical of a teenagersuper hero love storyline. Serious, looked like the guy had flashlights for super powers, even used his power as a flash light half themovie wtf is that. This movie it a mess. Things just start to happenthat make no sense. The bad guys are just down right stupid. A nose andgills on his cheeks ooooh scary!! And am still uncertain what the guyspower was besides flash light hands. Seemed very low budget as far asCGI goes cuz they blew it as goes the screen writers. Another movietrying to feed off twilight crowd teenage love with a xmen likebackground to cash in. It sucked

Just bare with the silly teen romance and ignore the villains.
Based on the young adult science fiction novel by Pittacus Lore, I AmNumber Four keeps the same name as it's published counterpart. The bookcame out on August 3rd in 2010 and spent about seven straight weeks atnumber one on the children's portion of The New York Times Best Sellerlist. This is the first of six proposed novels by Lore. A sequel movieis not definite, but possible.Producer and director Michael "Big Explosion" Bay (ya know the guythat did the Transformers movies) presented the book to DreamWorks anda bidding war began. One of my favorite director/producers, J.J. Abrams(TV shows: Lost and Fringe, Films: Star Trek, Super 8), also wanted themovie project, but ultimately DreamWorks won the bidding. A real shamein my opinion.I thought I Am Number Four was entertaining, but had definite room forimprovement. Let me outline the big pros and cons with one of those"Pros and Cons lists." I think that's the best way to go about this.Something different.Pros-The CGI was cool sometimes. Mainly just the light form his hands.-The visuals of the picture quality were spectacular; I really enjoyedthe quality and magnitude of the coloring.-Eye-candy actress Dianna Agron. Apparently she's a singer and part ofthat cast from FOX's Glee. Yeah, I'll be brutally honest and admit Iwatched the first half of the first season when it premiered. I likesinging. It's way too much now though.-Actor Timothy Olyphant, whom I know best from the video game-basedHit-man. It was actually a really good movie; especially for someonewho has played the games, like myself. You may know him best frommovies like The Crazies, The Girl Next Door, and Live Free or Die Hard.He also stars in two great TV shows that I have been meaning to watchfor awhile: HBO's Deadwood and FX's Justified. He is also a producer ofJustified.-Lead actor Alex Pettyfer. Given the lack of titles on his IMDb page, Ithink he did an excellent job with this role. Great casting.-Oh, and Teresa Palmer (played Number 6) was pretty bad-ass.Cons-I don't know if they couldn't act or if it was their appearance, butthe villains in this movie were awful.-Director D.J Caruso. Since he also directed the movie Disturbia, Ithought this could have been under better direction.-Teen romance. I expected it to be a little mushy given the movie isbased on a young adult/teen book, but c'mon -A slow beginning. The second half of the film was better. So, there ya have it. The Nuz Journal's first Pros & Cons list for amovie review. Overall this movie was entertaining, just pretend you area teenager.6/10 Stars.

Smallville + Supernatural + Dark Angel + Buffy = I am 4
Yes it's everything you've seen before and on the small screen for thatmatter but don't think for a second that you wouldn't be entertained orhave your socks knocked off by I am Four. The only thing that suckedfor me were the lame high school scenes and Twilightly love storybetween the two main characters (played by Alex Pettyfer and DianaAgron) but other than that the movie rocked. Teresa Palmer (#6) stealsthe show and was horribly underused in this (I hope there's a sequel inthe works) but Alex Pettyfer (#4) holds his own too. For the life ofme, no matter what I've seen him in, I can't stop seeing him as thehigh school bully he played in a British film I saw years ago so toactually see him play the bullied in this film finally got my mind offof it for it bit. As for those wondering why my summary is entitled:'Smallville' + 'Supernatural' + 'Dark Angel' + 'Buffy' = 'I am 4', Icame to this conclusion based on a lot of elements in the film like thetheme of the boy from another planet hiding out on earth and trying tofit in a la Clark Kent from TV's 'Smallville' or the abandoned boy whokeeps searching for his father who vanished chasing after supernaturalentities a la Sam and Dean from TV's 'Supernatural' and the wholeelement of the watchers a la TV's 'Buffy the vampire slayer' as well asthe element of superhuman young adults trying to figure out theirabilities, watching out for one another while evading military capturea la Maxx and the gang from TV's 'Dark Angel' all themes you can lookforward to in this film thanks to the writing team of Gough and Millar.

Enjoy !
I am, probably, too old but this movie, with impressive specialeffects, a nice love story, after old tale about Romeo and Juliet, withgood performance of Timothy Olyphant , expressionless but brawl starAlex Pttyfer is really boring. Sure, an adaptation for its specialpublic for who Twilight saga and tales about vampires are really coolbut my small expectation was to discover something new. A memorablecrumb, a really interesting scene, a story more than a clone. Theresult - gray and unhappy. It is not director fault and the show islike it must be. But the final taste remains bland. Many spices and MTVart at high level. But everything has been said in many other movies. The magic is lost. And the emotions are dead. But each film hasadmires. So, enjoy !

Twilight with balls
Do you know that old movie rule that you subconsciously decide whetheryou're going to enjoy a film or not within the first ten minutes? Well,it wasn't true this time, because after the opening sequence, I waspretty sure I was going to hate "I Am Number Four". Thankfully, I wasin for a pleasant surprise. It all starts with bad CGI-monsters and some guys in Star Trek make-upchasing people around in the jungle. We then cut to some jocks doingtricks on jet skis and some bland blonde girls admiring them - and Ithought this is going to be terrible. Then the story picks up and themovie gets better from there. The story involves a couple of characters and mysteries, but is nevertoo complicated. After the initial jet ski scene, the main characteractually turns out to be played quite charmingly by Alex Pettyfer. He'ssupported by his mentor/protector (solid as always: Timothy Olyphant).Glee's Dianna Agron plays Number Four's love interest. She comes acrossvery natural, so that the love story that unfolds is actually engaginginstead of vomit-inducing like that of that other movie with thewhining Vampires and the shirtless Werewolves.Of course, "I Am Number Four" is by no means a great movie. The CGIsucks in places and the make-up of the bad guys is just awful.Characters are stereotypical, things fall into place way tooconveniently and one has the feeling that a good junk of the originalnovel has just been crammed together to (barely) fit into the runningtime of a popcorn movie. However, I think we can all agree that it would be silly to actuallyexpect a masterpiece, considering the movie's premise. For what it is,"I Am Number Four" is an entertaining little fantasy flick forteenagers and undemanding twenty-somethings. Add to that the fact thatthis movie is neither a sequel nor a remake, that it's not based on acomic book, a TV series, a computer game or toys, and it's enough tolift "I Am Number Four" heads and shoulders above its genrecompetitors.

Be a younger viewer to appreciate...
This review is from: I Am Number Four [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Comment: How do I rate this movie... the best way I can describe this movie is to compare it to music. I am from the generation of Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes and Black Sabbath. When I compare "my" music to the newest music I say the new music is fluff, light on talent... full of pretty faces but no sole. (no hate mail please) Some of the newest films are the same way. Lots of pretty faces and bodies. That is how I see this movie. When I watched it, I gave it a solid 3 Amazon Stars... that is , for the first two thirds of the film. The last third came to life with some good action. This bumped my rating to four stars. It is obvious that this is the first of a "few" films to follow. I can see now that the first two thirds of the movie was to set up the characters and story line. I am convinced that the films that follow will be along the lines of X-Men. To get the best from this movie you must be a younger viewer.

Oh, Hum........
Daniel, and later John Smith (Pettyfer) is an alien from another planetand some hostile and uglier members of his species are trying to killhim and others like him. Where have we seen this before? Does the wordVampire ring a bell with you?If the director concentrated more on the actors he had and not so muchon the CGI, we might have had a better movie. Until that day comes, wewill continue to see actors who say their lines as though they are in adream-state. They don't project their lines. It's like the lines aresaid and come right back into their mouths. It's almost like thedialogue was dubbed and the actors just mouthed the words. Not muchpassion there. Did we care about anyone? I didn't. Will you?The opening scenes to this movie set the tone for confusion. Everythingwas in the dark and this lasted for more than a few minutes; no oneknew what was going on; no one knew who was doing what to whom. We justknew there were struggles because we could hear that in the dark, butwho was struggling? Guess we will never know. Oh, wait a minute, it wasDaniel and later John Smith, but he didn't know he had any powers yet.Darn. Always the last to know. Henri (Olyphant), his guardian, hadn'ttold him everything. Darn      .. Now, Daniel and later John Smith isabout 18-years old. When would Henri tell Daniel and later John Smithwhat he needs to know about his powers? When he's 30? You have to understand that Henri and Number Four (Daniel and laterJohn Smith) had to move around a lot because the aliens kept findingthem and that is the reason for the different names. Oh, and just so weare clear: Numbers One, Two and Three had already been killed. Thealiens are now after Number Four. The aliens had a certain structure totheir make-up. The teen romance between John Smith and Sarah (Agron) was lame to saythe least. Awkward doesn't do it justice. The only bright spot in this was Timothy Olyphant. You knew what youwere getting with his character and he was the only one that had anysense of urgency about him, along with Number Six (Palmer) who hadenough passion for all of them put together. But, let's not forget thealien bad guys. They were terrific whoever they were. However, the CGI was again terrific. I was even ducking away from thosemonsters the aliens had locked up for a time and were set loose. Yikes! The movie left it open for a sequel. Oh, hum, here we go again. I needto stop yawning. Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: No.

Hey, at least the title tells you its crap two times over
A young man with superpowers is hunted by a group that want him dead, and yet he still falls for a girl, thus risking her life. But enoughabout Jumper. In this one, "John" and those who chase him are aliens, and these Mogadorians have to kill these 9 survivors(including Kal-El)from the planet in a specific order, because... I have no idea. Also, his hands are turquoise lighthouses(and it's as if the crew don'trealize how dorky and lame this looks, as they constantly use it). Themajority of this is a clichéd, vapid high school drama(that bordersTwilight territory... and yes, there are apparently books behind this,I didn't know they existed), and then this suddenly remembers that itwas advertised as a sci-fi action flick, so it becomes one for the lasthalf hour or so. And then it sequel-baits about as shamelessly as itpossibly could. I guess they hope that you forget that the last thirdof this was in no way representative of the whole, as well as the factthat we simply do not connect with these people. For the first half, wedon't even know what the stakes are! These bland, forgettablecharacters, spewing obvious trailer-lines(Bay, get out of thisbusiness, it's getting tiresome), making stupid mistakes, and beingacted poorly. The bad guy is sadistic and enjoyable enough. Olyphant asthe sarcastic, overbearing guardian is cool enough... he nearly alwaysis. Maybe the Smallville writers just can't compose a story that isself-contained. I recommend this to people who want what this actuallyis and not what it purported to be. 6/10

Great movie
This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) I was thoroughly entertained by this movie. It doesn't have great reviews besided to buck the system and try it anyway. I found the plot to be easy to follow but with unexpected twists and turns. I especially appreciated the introduction and later help received by the dog. I highly recommend this movie.

just not good
I got to see a screening of this and frankly, it's not good. I likepretty much every movie. I think most "bad" movies are good. This moviewas bad, though, not at all good. I guess the cinematography was good, but that's about it. I actually wanted to cry it was so bad. I wantedto like it, I really did, but I couldn't. The script is not good, theactors are doing what they can with it (though Dianna Agron's actingleaves something to be desired), I don't quite know what's going onwith the direction, and the story itself is haphazard at best. Thespecial effects are pretty. I feel like other movies in the same genrehave done much better than this one has. A massive letdown. I'm glad Igot to see it for free, I wouldn't recommend spending money (or time)to see it. I never leave theatres, and I was sorely tempted to get upand walk out during this movie.

I liked it.
I thought that the movie was really interesting, despite all thereviews that i saw on the specialized cinema magazines... It's thefirst movie so of course that are holes on the plot... for instance iwould prefer to see at first the escape from the home planet and thencontinue the story on earth (i don't know if it is on the book cause ihaven't read it, but i'm going to, definitely)... Pettyfer drifts a biton the beginning but i think he takes the character when Six appears. And speaking of Six, very well casted. Hope that this not becomes oneof those "one time try" movies like Eragon and The Golden Compass. TheCGI and FX complement the movie and don't interfere like it happens onother movies. I'm very curious for the follow-up
