It's a story kids have seen a thousand times, and even recently in a far cleverer, engaging and touching way (How To Train Your Dragon), and Hop brings nothing new or unique to the table.

Hop

If you were sad that the world had yet to see an animated/live-action hybrid film catering specifically to crowds anticipating the secular aspects of Easter, chin up! In the grand tradition of films like The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks comes Hop, the tale of a CGI rabbit who dreams of becoming a drummer and instead crosses paths with a slacker human with a surprising knack for delivering Easter candy to kids the world over. Let's be honest here: Alvin and the Chipmunks made over $350 million worldwide at the box office and spawned two sequels, and Hop made over $180 million itself. In other words, even though the movie was horrible, it's pretty clear I am not the target demographic. Want something silly and formulaic to babysit the kids while you tend the barbecue? Here you go.

Loving HOP

Saw this movie today, and believe me, it's not just for kids. It was so funny, and just listening to my grandaughter laugh because her Grandma was laughing was priceless. Definitely a must see movie, more than once...can't wait to own

A Rabbit Owner Who Loves HOP!

'Hop' is a fun little Easter flick, that won me over quickly. I am happy owner of two rabbits who I absolutely love and E.B. reminded me SO much of one of my bunnies. Some of the references to recent movies and stars will unfortunately date it as the years pass, but I can forgive that part of it. From a rabbit lovers perspective, this movie includes some really important things about bunnies and rabbit ownership, without being preachy. There is a scene where the main character Fred, in an attempt to get rid of E.B., takes him to an outdoor location and tries to leave him there. We are quickly reminded that a domesticated rabbit isn't fit for life in the wild. It's the sad fate of many 'Easter bunnies' bought during the holiday for children, that once the rabbit gets bigger (and has usually not been spayed or neutered) and develops unwanted behaviors, that they are either taken to a shelter, or dumped in the wild on the assumption that rabbits are 'wild' animals and can handle the outdoors just fine. This of course is not true and a rabbit is not an Easter toy, but an involved pet equal to a dog or cat. Google search the 'Make Mine Chocolate' campaign for more info on humane rabbit treatment. There are also bits of rabbit info humor that made me laugh, as when E.B. points out that rabbits can't vomit, so when he sees something that makes him feel sick all he can do is gag. I also loved the 'Easter Island' backdrop, with those mysterious statues that have fascinated me since I was a kid! The 'Pink Beret' segments are wonderful as well. The friend I saw this with has asthma, and one of the Pink Beret bunnies uses an inhaler after some of the action scenes, which was a funny little touch that made her giggle. In the end, it's a good story that includes bunnies, chicks and tons of Easter candy! You may want to have your Cadbury eggs and marshmallow Peeps lined up for watching this one. I love a heavy drama as much as the next person, but if you just want to be a little silly and do the 'hop', it's quite perfect.

Cute movie

Cute movie if not a bit corny :) I bought it just in time for Easter this year and I enjoyed getting to watch it with my son.

Despite its scattered frenzy, Hop -- thanks to its fondness for smushing together seemingly incongruous elements and Marsden's goofy, bug-eyed mugging -- is just demented enough to deliver a fleeting sugar rush.

Anyone bewailing the near-absence of tacky family films inspired by Easter need bewail no more: Hop has arrived to fill the void.

Great for the whole family!

Great family movie. I was worried about the PG rating but there are only a few inappropriate words...however...on the very light side of inappropriate. I was pleasantly surprised. Something my kids 2, 4 & 6 can watch over and over again. Kids really enjoyed the music! Enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the Santa Claus classics! Great to have a new holiday family movie that is enjoyed by all!

Even The Hoff cant save Hop!

When a movie's best feature is David Hasselhoff overacting furiously(while playing himself) you know it is in trouble.I won't spend too long listing the poor aspects of this movie but a feware:They manage to make a cute animated bunny an unlikeable character.Perhaps the fact that Russell Brand voices him explains this. The main supporting human character isn't likable either. He is a lazyslacker and his family are plain scary! Even though you don't expect too much from a movie for small kids theplot still makes no sense. There are few, if any funny lines, scenes or charactersIn summary it wasn't very good and with a runtime of 95 minutes evenless discerning kids will get bored. Accompanying adults will bepraying for the end credits to roll!

No amount of enthusiasm can make up for the shaky premise and half-hearted writing.

Great movie even for older people

This week, my family won tickets for an early showing of the movie, andwe ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. Before going, i thought it looked kind of weirdand childish, but after, this movie was great for any age. E.B. isabsolutely hilarious and makes many jokes only adults reallyunderstand. My only complaint about the movie was the ending; a littlecheesy; but other than that, it was a great movie. The story is about a bunny named E.B. who is suppose to become the nexteaster bunny. Growing up, he loved the idea but then fell in love withplaying the drums (yes i know it sounds cheesy but it actually works inthe movie). After running away, he runs into Fred O'hair (get the joke,O'hair. I thought it was funny) who is failing at finding a job. Thetwo meet each other and E. B. ends up bunking with Fred. The adventurecontinues when E. B. meets David Hasselhoff, Freds sister, and escapesfrom the pink baraat. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANYONETOTALLY Recommend

FUN MOVIE...

Fun movie. Certainly for kids. It's not in the category of "Despicle me" or "Toy Story-3" (or 1, or 2) but still lots of fun. In the beginning it has a bit of Willy Wonka feel to it, while more to the end, it leans more to Santa. But it's all Easter-bunny power (sorry for the chicks). I liked it better at the beginning, and the middle. Quite some surprise-jokes there. But somewhere before the end, I get the feeling, the makers suddenly realize they need to bring to movie to an end. From that point on everything gets very rushed and quick-paced and to me the movie looses some of it's magic at that point. But still we had lots of fun. Definitely a movie to watch with the (young) kids.

The British Bunny Christmas Again?

Movies have been used to publicize many holidays throughout the years;however, there has not been a film that has displayed Easter in such aHollywoodized way until now. "Hop" has transformed Easter into the newChristmas, drawing masses of families into the theaters. However, whilethe film was a success at the box office being named the firstblockbuster of the summer, the film has much to be desired. RusselBrand ("Get Him to the Greek") stars as a rabbit named E.B. who isdestined to take the place of his dad (High Laurie, "House") as theEaster Bunny. As the Easter Bunny, E.B. would be taking over control ofEaster Island where chicks prepare Easter eggs and luscious candydelights for the Easter Holiday every year—sound familiar (elves makingtoys for Christmas). However, E.B. has a different idea about what hisfuture has in store. To avoid his destiny, E.B. leaves Easter Islandtwo weeks before his coronation on Easter day through a rabbit hole toHollywood. After a misunderstanding at the Playboy Mansion, E.B. meetsdisappointment Fred O'Hare (catchy name) who has failed to live up tohis father's (Gary Cole, "Talladega Night") expectations. However,Fred's life is turned around after he meets E.B., allowing him torealize his life long dream of becoming the Easter Bunny. However, before this realization can be made a reality, Fred and E.B. must stopthe evil plot of the head chick at the factory, Carlos (Hank Azaria,"Love and Other Drugs") that would change Easter forever. The only thing that "Hop" is successful at is targeting children. Itprovides this audience exactly what they would want out of afamily-safe Easter film. Everything about the film is harmless andcliché within its kid friendly genre, ultimately pleasing parents, whodo not have to worry about what their kids see. However, from acritical standpoint the only character that is somewhat worth followingis E.B. Lets face it, you do not see many British bunnies that soundlike Russel Brand every day.The truth is that even though "Hop" may be the best film in theatersfor kids to see, it has no excuse to totally disregard originality.Even though not many films about Easter are ever seen in theaters,"Hop" seems like just another Christmas film shot during the springseason. Every plot line and twist can be taken lightly because believeit or not it has all been done before. The jumbling of so many clichéplot lines makes the story random and by the end none of the film wasfully developed. Also, the acting in the film is horridly hokey exceptfor various Russel Brand moments. Even so, Brand was a very awkwardchoice for his role because he is the only bunny with a British accent. The clumsiness of the casting does not stop there with the evil chickCarlos (Hank Azaria, "Love and Other Drugs") being the only Hispanicchick in the movie. The story is very plain mixing "The Santa Clause" and "Alvin and theChipmunks" with an Easter shell. This makes "Hop" nothing more than akid-pleasing flick that will make you wonder if Christmas came earlythis year.

The real disappointment, though, is Brand as E.B., giving a motor-mouthed G-rated spiel that denudes him of his R-rated personality.

Cool Movie

Reminded me of alvin and the chipmunks, it was a nice, funny and cute film to take your kids to see. The bunny was adorable. overall 9/10 average.

Hop is spectacularly charmless -- there's no spring in its step. The last thing we need is an Easter movie that comes limping down the bunny trail.

What could have been a painfully childish animated Easter romp is given a shot of deranged humour and an above-average cast of voices and cameos.

REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR JELLY BEANS!

Okay, HOP is just too cute for its own good, but is that a crime? Not if the cuteness is doled out purposefully as it is in HOP. How else can you do a movie about the Easter Bunny if you don't dispend belief and hop on the fantasy bandwagon. Devised by the same team that gave us the far superior DESPICABLE ME, the movie is just what I expected---and I had a good time watching it. James Marsden as the main human brings a wide-eyed "Aw Shucks" charm to his role as the ne'er-do-well slacker who bonds with the rebellious E.B. Who wants to be a drumming superstar. Russell Brand, better heard than seen, voices E.B. Perfectly. Kaley Cuolo, Elizabeth Perkins and Gary Cole provide minimal support as Marsden's disgruntled family and Chelsea Handler & David Hasselhoff provide amusing cameos. Hugh Laurie gives veddy British voice to EB's father but it is the always scene stealing Hank Azaria whose voicing of the treacherous chick Carlos provides the most fun.HOP is far more enjoyable than similar live/animation misfires like ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS or the awful GARFIELD franchises.HOP is fun for both kids and adults and really doesn't deserve the overall critical derision. Get some jelly beans and enjoy!
