A Classic....
I absolutely LOVE this movie. It's been a true classic since the 70's. John Travolta and Olivia Newton John do an excellent job with the acting, singing, and dancing. Has a great storyline and is very enjoyable to watch. Even to this day, the music in this movie is very moving and you feel like you just gotta sing along. And this is coming from someone who is now in high school. ALL PEOPLE OF ALL AGES WILL ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL FILM!!!Two Thumbs Up!

A Good Golden Oldie
Every year I will sit down and watch Grease. And i will never ever gettired of the romantic love, the comedy, and the outstanding songsperformed by the cast.A lot of people today are talking about how good High School Musical isand what a perfect movie it is. But nobody remembers Grease. If you askme, High School Musical is a 21st century copy of Grease. If you want a good movie, than it's Grease. It is not rushed like manymovies, or stretched like others. It tells the story at it's own pace, which is why it is such a good movie.I would recommend this movie to all of you people. Trust me you willnot be disappointed.

One of the Great Musical Classics
I was just a teenager when I first saw this movie, I remember lining up for hours just to get a ticket. Now that I have a copy of my own, I get to re-live the energy that I felt all those years ago. This would have to be one of the great big screen musicals of all time. One of those movies that you can watch over and over and still love it as if you were seeing it for the first time. Life is not complete without a copy of this video, can't wait for the DVD version.

Gravely shallow.
Individually the components of this movie have quality. The same cannot besaid about the movie because it is hypocrytical and appears to want toremove good intentions from anyone under the age of 60 when it comes tolove. I blame this film for the problem of unhappy, unsupported, singleparent families.

Grease
Love this DVD and the little jacket cover is cool. One of my favorite movies, and my kids even like to watch and sing along with the songs.

Love or hate it, it is still the one that most people want!!!
GREASE is still a movie that survives and thrives these days thanks to it´stireless energy. Nothing was more apparent to me when I saw this at theEmpire Leicester Square on it´s 20th Anniversary in 1998. Although it wasn´ta packed house, the audience, majority of them women, lapped up thescreening and cheered when John Travolta et all appeared on screen and Ihave to admit I did from time to time.I was only nine years old and wasn´t really into this film at the time ofit´s 1978 release, although nine weeks at the top of the UK pop charts meanta repeat each week on TOP OF THE POPS of the clip from the film of YOU´RETHE ONE THAT I WANT. Even though I hadn´t seen the film then, I alsoremember The Goodies´ spoof, SATURDAY NIGHT GREASE, recently reissued onDVD.Like FOOTLOOSE, this is a movie that is of it´s time, but transcends decadesbecause of its vintage 50´s setting, in much the same way that the ´WHEREWERE YOU IN ´62´ era of AMERICAN GRAFFITI did.

DO NOT buy this on VHS - wait for DVD
I'm an old fart in my fifties and saw this movie when it first came out. I saw it about 10 times then at the movie theatre with my wife. We loved it.When it came out on VHS several years later, I immediately purchased it. I have only purchased 5 videos in my life, so that shows how much I liked it. HOWEVER, when I watched it on the VHS, I was greatly DISAPPOINTED. A lot of the cool things that John Travolta and the rest do are on the sides of the movie, and they were cut off on VHS!! If you have never seen this movie at the movie theater, THEN YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT! It is still enjoyable on VHS, but compared to wide screen, the VHS version is a disappointing dud!DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy this movie on VHS!! You will be throwing away good money for a dud! I cannot understand why this movie has not been put on DVD widescreen. I guess some studios just don't know their craft. There are so many movies that have been put on DVD that don't need to be. Grease NEEDS to be put on DVD widescreen.

You CAN right a movie about rockroll!
Most people would think that you could'nt write a good movie about rock&roll. This movie sure proves them wrong. The songs are great, and the movie is great. I said that the songs were a great part of the movie. Here they are. 1. Grease-5/0 2. Summer Nights-8/10 3. Hopelessly Devoted To You-3/10 4. You're The One That I Want- 10/10 5. Sandy-1/10 6. Beauty School Dropout-5/10 7. Look At Me, I'm Sandra D.-7/10 8. Greased Lightning-9/10 9. It's Raining On Prom Night-3/10 10. Alone at the Drive-In-Movie-1/10 11. Blue Moon-9/10 12. Rock "N" Role is Here To Stay-8/10 13. Those Magic Changes-10/10 14. Hound Dog-4/10 15. Born To Hand Jive-4/10 16. Tears On My Pillow-2/10 17. Mooning-2/10 18. Freddy My Love-0/10 19. Rock "N" Role Party Queen-8/10 20. There Are Worse Things I Could Do-3/10 21. Look At Me, I'm Sandra D.(Reprise)-5/10 22. We Go Togeter-10/10 23. Love Is A Many Splendored Thing-4/10 24 Grease(Reprise)-5/10 As you can see, there are some VERY bad songs, but for the most part, the songs are pretty good. The whole movie was even better than the songs. The whole idea of the movie is a senior high schooler comes to the U.S. and goes to a cheap high school. There, she runs into a guy she met in the summer, who is in a car gang that is against another car gang. Throughout the year, this girl ( her name is Sandy) and her friends deal with the guy(his name is Danny) and his friends. The movie pretty much told about the "typical" high scholl senior's problems, except in a more 60's background. The movie actually took place in the 70's. At the end, Danny's car gang beats the rival gang in a car race, and at the end of the movie, the whole gang of guys and girls gets back together without any problems at the end of the year. The movie is all in all VERY good. Buy it today.

Still Has Cool Meaning
Quite a shoo in for the greatest musical ever made, "Grease" is simply fantastic. It has indeed stood the test of times, and is one of the few films the 1970s' that has been embraced by younger crowds. With its wonderful cast and classic songs, "Grease" is a classic.John Travolta is fantastic as Danny Zuko, the leader of the Greasers, the cool guys of Rydell High. Over the summer, he hooks up with Sandy, a plain jain who wins Zuko's heart..for now. Faith, however has other plans. It turns out that Sandy has enrolled at Rydell High. There, Sandy is looking forward to seeing Danny again. However, she is turned off by his school personality. She is also hated by the Pink Ladies, led by tough girl Rizzo (Stockard Channing). However, Danny soon realizes that he has feelings for Sandy, and tries to impress her. Sandy finally gives him a second chance. For a while, the two seem to be going great. But things soon go wrong, and the two break up.Things wrap up pretty predictably, but overall the film is fantastic.Everything about this film is nearly flawless. I'm at a loss for words. This is a movie you must see.

Great movie for those just starting a DVD collection !
I am not into movie musicals, but this is one of my favorite movies. This movie is great becuase its a simple and fun movie to watch. You know it by heart, and can sing along to it. I will definately be buying this DVD, especially since I have only seen the movie in TV pan/scan... I never got to see the rerelease in the theaters. I am so glad that its going to be the 2.35 widescreen. Please do not buy the Full Screen version, it just won't be the same.I really like the songs, both in English and the Spanish versions that came out for the Mexican version of it with Timbiriche a few years ago. I actually saw that version in the theater ! Its called " Vaselina " in spanish. Look it up on the web, there is a whole album with most of the songs. As for reviewer Robert A DelMedico (...rendition of a killer play), I doubt if anybody would disagree with him that the high schoolers looked too old. But thats always a problem with kids/teens in any movie. But he is looking at it from the point of the play. Most people see the film as seperate from the play. They should not be judged against each other.I do agree with him about the missing songs/scenes. When I saw the play in Spanish ( Vaselina ), some of the songs that he mentions missing where the most prominent in the play. But that might have also been due to which were easier to translate.Buy this one ! But get the widescreen edition. And don't buy Grease 2. Not very good.

WHAT HAPPENED????????????????
Grease is one of the best movies of the '70's. No doubt about that.WHAT HAPPENED PARAMOUNT?????The movie is great as always but the DVD edition is badly dissapointing. The dolby soundtrack is better on the 20th Anniversary Edition I bought a few years ago.I am VERY dissapointed in the quality I have of this. I will keep it just because it is the DVD of the movie. But for watching, I'll bring out the old 20th Anniversary VHS edition.Hope Paramount does better with Saturday Night Fever and Footllose.

Good Movie, Up to the very end (SPOILERS)
This movie was O.K, not as dark or bleak as the Stage production(In the origional play, Rizzo really IS pregnant, and Frenchy never getsback into school)John Travolta did great as a punk,he filled the part nicely, and sandy.....I found it hard to believe thatOlivia Newton John was 30 at the time of this movie! allthough THAT was moreevidant with Hooker-Sandy at the end. That's right, Sandy turns punk andtakes up smoking just to get a guy. pretty cowardly. discounting the ending, the rest of the film was great: a nostalgic look the the fifties, race cars, tail fins, and the songs were great, such as "Tears on my pillow", "Summernights", "rock n' roll is here to stay" and the memorable "we gotogether"

A Million Spoilers!!!
Okay, if you've never seen "Grease", you really have to ask yourself, "Whyam I surfing on a movie database when I obviously don't watch movies?" "Grease" is one of those movies, like "Wizard of Oz", "Sound of Music" and"Star Wars" that everyone should have to watch before they watch really anyother movies. They should even show them in schools, just as long as theyshow it before the kids realize what "Grease Lightning" is reallyabout.Totally off subject, but do you remember seeing this film as a youngster andloving it, and then you decide to watch it when you turn 16 with a group offriends, and you were shocked about some of the things they say &do?Anyway, back to this review. "Grease" is my favorite musical. (FYI: "LittleShop of Horrors" is a very close second place.) The Top Ten Reasons why I Think GREASE is the Best Musical:10. Grease 2: If it weren't for the popularity of "Grease", we wouldn't have"Grease 2" and I probably wouldn't know who Michelle Pfeifferis.9. The T-Birds: When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, mythree usual answers were "Jedi Knight", "Pittsburgh Steeler" or"T-Bird".8. Olivia Newton-John7. Pink Ladies: As the T-Birds were to me, millions of girls made Pink Ladyjackets and wear them every Halloween.6. Grease Lightning: Who wouldn't want a car like this that promises thestuff it promised?5. Sandy Olsen is HOT!4. Music: From Frankie Valli singing the theme song, to Sha-Na-Na performingcover tunes, the soundtrack is one of the best.3. Lorenzo Lamas: Before he was a "renegade", Lorenzo was Tom Chisum, theultimate jock who's "brains are in his biceps."2. Danny Zuko: John Travolta was ten times cooler as Danny Zuko than he wasas Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever" and Vincent Vega in "Pulp Fiction"combined. And, of course, the number one reason why I love "Grease"......Olivia Newton-John as Sandy Olsen: Olivia is the only woman I'd leave mywife for, especially when she's wearing the cheerleading outfit. I know, alot of guys will say her black outfit at the end is the selling point, butit's the whole innocent factor that I love this woman.Anyway, there you have it. A totally unbiased review of the greatestmusical of our time. Any questions?
