Waste of a 3D movie

Good movie!...reminds one of a Toy Story movie.Fun movie with a cute love story..If you like Elton John music, you'll love this movie,if not don't watch. All the music is Elton John. The 3D in this movie was forgotten!..This is the 1st 3D movie in which i didn't feel more involved...no wow factors,i checked to see if my glasses where on a couple of times, some parts in the grass look good, but thats it...The 2D is just as good as the 3D...I give the movie 4 stars and the 3D 2 stars.SEE ALL MY 3D REVIEWS:THANKS!

3D Review A horrible idea treated with a solid execution

*** out of (****)Talking gnomes. A parody of Romeo and Juilet. It's 3D. It's a kid's wetdream and a parent's worst nightmare. With all the money, actors, andoriginal ideas out there, why make a movie personifying toys, and havea surcharge for a darker motion picture? Say what you will about thismovie, but I liked it. For once, the jokes were funny, the film knewhow to had fun, and overall, I just had a really great time. Although,I must confess, I was excited for this movie before seeing it. I knewgoing in what I was going to get, and I got exactly that. Let me tellyou something, the idea sounds horrible on paper, but seeing as how thedirectors took note of that, they treated this movie with a nicedirection. With a title as sublime as "Gnomeo & Juliet", I guess no onecan really be disappointed. But, in the hands of a worse or evenamateur director, this could've been a disaster.First of all, the performances were nice. Both leading protagonists arecharming, charismatic, and fulfill their roles. I found the charactersvery cute, and a lot of fun. Also, I thought the jokes weren't too bad. There's a lot to like from adults and kids alike. This film speaks tomultiple demographics. Furthermore, the 3D, while darker, added adecent field of depth. It wasn't the best use of the modern technology, but not the worst. To put the cherry on top, this movie is just a lotof fun. The jokes are. The actors are. The scenery is. The whole movieis just one enjoyable ride.Any complaints? For one, I didn't like the ending. What could have beena ballsy, Pixar- esque type ending turns into another kid's filmresolution. Also, this movie isn't something you have to rush out tosee. I'd say a matinée is most recommended. And, you don't HAVE to seethis movie in 3D. 2D or 3D, it really won't make a difference. All in all, Gnomeo & Juilet wasn't the worst movie I saw. In fact, it'sfar from it. It was a decent movie that was very entertaining. Iactually might revisit it now and then.

What a shame!

"Is his... big and pointy?" asked the frog. "A squirrel dropped hisnuts." said Juliet. The frog added "The nuts where the size ofboulders." How does this pass as entertainment for our children, I wasdisappointed to say the least - I guess these days pedophiles arewriting the family movies. Why did I say pedophile? Simply cause thedouble meaning jokes are too disgusting, but mostly cause the jokes area sick attempt to make todays children as perverted as the people whowrote Gnomeo and Juliet. If a pedophile was in your garden, talkingdirty to your child, you would ask him to leave. Without thebelow-the-belt jokes the movie would have been okay I suppose, althoughI'm not a big fan garden gnomes. Furthermore, Gnomeo and Juliet is apale copy of Toy Story, no where near as good.

Cute kids movie

This was a cute kids movie. Clean and friendly to kids. Pretty interesting. Definitely not the best movie out there, but still good.A spoof on Romeo and Juliet. A little funny too.

Good movie for the kids

Gnomeo and Juliet is one of the first childrens' movies I have seen in a long time that I can honestly say is worry free. Its very clean and I can promise younger kids will love it. I even enjoyed it myself. The happy lawn gnomes and the beautiful scenery animation makes it a visually pleasing movie to watch. The storyline is basically this: There are 2 yards, one with blue gnomes and the other with red gnomes. They contantly fight and try to 1 up each other. Apparently they do put aside their differences enough to meet up in the alley and race their owner's lawn mowers (with cheating often involved) Juliet, who is a red gnome, goes on a mission to help better her garden. Gnomeo who is on the run from the reds after a stealth mission into their territory goes wrong, runs into Juliet and they both fall in love in an abandoned yard. They continue to see each other in this yard and even make friends with another lawn ornament who tells them he will keep their secret and becomes a good source of advice for the two. As the feud heats up, the situation becomes more dangerous for both yards of gnomes, climaxing with Benny (a blue gnome) buying a backhoe style-super tractor and wrecking both yards (in case you're wondering how a gnome bought a tractor...just watch lol) leaving them completely destroyed. And I will leave it at that :) Very fun movie, lots to keep the kids entertained and I think most adults that have a young mindset will enjoy watching it too. My only complaint is the storyline. Romeo and Juliet is portrayed constantly! I mean, it is a little played out. I promise kids watching this movie will get into middle school and high school and say "My God how many times can we tell the same story differently?!" It just seemed like a weakness on the writers' part by choosing something that has been taken for all its worth. Cute concept and they did modify the plot a bit but still...I have just had my fill of R&J. Also, the gnomes also use touch-up paint on themselves in the movie. Why didn't one of them think "Oh I can just repaint myself blue/red and go into the next yard?" I just thought that was a cool idea that should have been in the movie. Other than me feeling like it has a tired storyline, Gnomeo and Juliet is a perfect movie to pick up and entertain the little ones.

I would have rather had my foot nailed to the floor...

I really wanted to like this movie. I was so excited when it finally made it to the Video On Demand and I could rent it. I popped my bowl of popcorn. Got my favorite beverage ready. I even opened a bottle of wine about half way through... but the bottle of wine was to help me endure the remaining half of the movie. It was hokey. The graphics were great but I felt that all the jokes were forced and the story line made me wish . I was so dissapointed. I was excited when I found out that it was from one of the creators of Shrek... I had such high expectations. But it was just not my cup of tea... and it severly ruined my glass of wine.I realize that we each have our own preferences. I am not saying this is a absolute NO for everyone. It was just not for me... and I really like movies like this. The movie did not deliever what I was expecting.~TMM007.

Kiddies OK, Parents Beware

Not really much to say about this film. It's exactly what it looks like--- garden gnomes that come to life when no one is looking and a bluegnome, Gnomeo (McAvoy) falls in love with a red gnome, Juliet (Blunt).Only this isn't Pixar, so expect less.Everyone knows the tale of Romeo & Juliet, so it was cute to put it ina kid's flick with garden gnomes playing the star-crossed lovers.Though, Shakespeare's tale was a tragic one, parents needn't worry here-- this is a Touchstone (read: Disney) release, after all. Here, theMontagues and Capulets live in different gardens (even the human gardenowners hate each other) and when the humanoids go to work, the gnomesstart the day with lawnmower drag racing. Eventually, after muchfighting and even much more bad puns, it erupts into a full-scale war.And somewhere in there Gnomeo & Juliet find one another and fall headover heels in love -- see, when they first meet, they're bothundercover (don't ask). It's when they realize that they're on theopposite sides that they have to sneak off to steal some kisses. The main problem with the movie is that it's just cute. Nothing more. There is nothing to be found here for the older set... at all. I foundmyself a little bored while watching. The only parts that were amusingto me involved the gnomes getting out of the garden and interactingwith the World (and "Worldly Widely Web"), but I was still rolling myeyes when no one questioned a single thing about how strange it was tosee an army of gnomes in an alleyway. It seems to me that they couldhave put a little more effort into this and come out with aPixar-quality product but they didn't.Elton John was one of the executive producers on this project and thatexplains why practically all of the songs on "Gnomeo & Juliet" are his.We even get a look at an Elton John gnome, for crap's sake. And what isup with that 70's throwback montage in the middle of the film whereGnomeo & Juliet are dancing while getting "gussied up"? The voiceacting was fine, there were no major stand-outs on either side of thecoin (once again, they were just cute and average). It's a good littlemovie for the kiddies but the parents will most likely be bored throughthe majority of it, even the animation doesn't grab your attention --although, it is good enough, I enjoyed the chips and cracks in thepaint on some of the gnomes. Here's something fun for the parents to do while watching -- try tofind as many references to William Shakespeare as you can. It startsoff straight away as we see the mailboxes of the humanoids (2B and theother one has 2B with circle around it with a line through it to tellus that it's NOT 2B, get it?). This actually kept me watching the wholething -- to see how many of those jokes I could find. Once again...cute. For more reviews, visit www.soveryterry.com Final Grade: C+

Gnomeo and Juliet is great for kids

This review is from: Gnomeo and Juliet (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) The Gnomeo and Juliet 3 disco combo was a great deal. We just got a blu ray so wanted to get some movies. It was great that it came with a digital copy for our ipod touches. The kids really liked the movie. I thought it was okay, but I didn't buy the movie for me. Definitely recommend this.

Big ups to my Gnomeo peeps

I really wasn't hot on seeing this film. I'm not into cartoons, andeven less into trash 3D movies. But my friends wanted to see it and soin I went. I have to say that going to watch the film with notexpecting anything much might have helped, but I actually really likedit. I'm amazed that this was made in Turkey. The last thing I saw likethis was Shrek which was very funny - but this is actually a lot morecooler. The movie is filled with a great deal of Turkish humor andhowever the language is awfully vulgar (especially for kids, but theywouldn't understand those jokes). This movie is spectacularlyhilarious, and I would like to watch the American version of Gnomeo &Juliet. Apparently, the English version of Gnomeo & Juliet is muchbetter than the European version, because the movie was originallyEnglish. This movie is going to be released internationally, and it isgoing to be a very successful animation movie.I am truly impressed by the standard of this movie; you would notexpect such a good movie made entirely by Turkish animators. This filmshould be internationally recognized, because the standard of this filmis definitely high compared to other Pixar movies. Although it may notbe as good as 'The Incredibles' or 'Monsters Inc.', as in storyline, the actions are completely worth watching, and the jokes willdefinitely crack you up!!! The story is quite basic andstraightforward, there are no complicated or confusing scenes, which isgood in a way. I would recommend this movie to everybody, especiallyTurkish viewers, because they should be proud of the Turkish animators, this film is produced and made in Turkey. I would recommend this movieto animation lovers and mainly teenagers, because the language to quitevulgar for young kids.Gnomeo & Juliet is a fantastic sensation! Congratulations to KellyAsbury!

Unclassic classic

I've never watched anything of the Romeo & Juliet story, nor the bookbut I enjoyed how this put an unusual spin on it. And it had to beBritish, American accents wouldn't cut it, it wouldn't be as nearly ascute. I saw this as an Elton John rock opera. I don't care for hismusic much but I really got into it during the movie. I watch it overand over. Guess I'm just a sucker for love stories. The jokes and gagsare repeatable...lines you could just fit into normal conversation asinside jokes between friends like "Who's your gnomy". I wish Ozzy had abigger part, his lines cracked me up most of all. The music just fitwell all the way around. Would you expect anything less from a moviethat involved EJ - not to mention that it was his company that made themovie.

Great Movie!

This review is from: Gnomeo and Juliet (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) My 5-yr-old grandson has watched this movie so often that he's almost memorized the words and he already sings along with the music. The music is incredible. I love this movie, too. It's a cute movie for children and a feel good movie for adults. Great theme...We can all get along and often don't for ridiculous reasons.... and love has no bounds.

The best Stories always bear retelling. . .

No spoilers. If you know Shakespeare, you know Romeo & Juliet, even ifall you know is the hysterical 30 second Nextel Video Cliff Noteversion. So the complaints of 'Lack of Originality' don't make sense.Yes, it is a Movie for KIDS. I mean folks, your Kids are watching WAYMORE SCARY STUFF in their Video Games! Heck! The people saying this is'UNFIT for young children' are the same people who wanted to Ban 'Tom &Jerry' in an earlier life!Elton John can be a turn-off for many people. . .so I won't castaspersions on that point. (Altho', I suspect the EJ haters are morealarmed at the possibility their tender little darlings may starthumming his songs at the Dinner Table in front of GUESTS! Oh, theHorror!) On the other hand-- it's not a total tear-jerker, which other adultscan find to be teeth-grinding events. It's Fun. Quick. Snappy. and yes, CUTE.As an adult with no kids who just wanted something fun to watch andforget the trials of a hard, bad week, 'Gnomeo & Juliet' was a welcomerespite. Isn't that what Life is about? And it goes without saying that this one is Totally Girlfriend Friendlyand an easy pick if she's contentious, I dare say.

3.5 - Young children will love it

As parents to a six-year-old girl, my husband and I are constantly on the look-out for tolerable kid-friendly shows that we can take her to (at the movies). I say tolerable because quality is often lacking in many of these films and then there's the issue of PG vs. G ratings. Well, when we heard Gnomeo and Juliet was being screened at our local cinema, we decided to give it a try, and to our surprise, our picky 6-year-old loved it!I have to say that this movie is mainly for young children. It is full of color, which will appeal to most kids, and there are adorable garden gnomes running around. My husband fell asleep within fifteen minutes (to be fair, he had had a long day at work), but my daughter's attention was riveted to the screen from the beginning till the end. Me? I enjoyed the music (thanks to Elton John who obligingly helped with the soundtrack featuring his classic hits - his partner David Furnish was a producer on this film). I also sort of enjoyed the silly premise - instead of the doomed star-crossed Romeo and Juliet, we have warring garden gnomes, the Reds and the Blues, and two impish and totally cute gnomes, Juliet (a Red, voiced by Emily Blunt) and Gnomeo (a Blue, voiced by James McAvoy) who flirt and later fall for each other despite their differences. The casting is a sort of coup really given the famous names featured here - there's Jim Cummings, Patrick Stewart, Dolly Parton, Ozzy Osbourne, and many more! The movie is a kaleidoscope of color and at times this can get a tad overwhelming but the children appeared to love it, so my verdict - awesome entertainment for the kiddie set!

Pretty good for what it is

This review is from: Gnomeo & Juliet (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) I was not looking forward to watching this movie, My wife saw it for 8.99 new from a seller and BAM two days later it was in my mailbox!!I almost threw it away and hope she would forget about ordering......however right when I walked in the door, "did my movie come!?!?!"As you could guess an hour later I was watching it and to mu surprise this was not a bad little movie. not a great Disney classic but I have seen much worse as of late, very cute movie and would be great for any family or for any couple that like a little goofy in there romance.I would actually watch this movie again and recommend for others to as well.

Movie Review Gnomeo and Juliet

In this CG-animated feature film Gnomeo and Juliet (parody of Romeo andJuliet), the garden gnomes of two elderly neighbors, Mrs. Montague andMr. Capulet who dislike each other, come alive when they leave.Separated by a fence, blue gnomes live in one backyard, while the redgnomes live on the other one. The two groups of gnomes are constantlycompeting with each other. While trying to retrieve an orchid for hergarden, Juliet (Emily Blunt), a red gnome, meets Gnomeo (James McAvoy),a blue gnome, and they fall in love. They try to keep their romancesecret as there is a war between the blue and red gnomes.I'm betting in order to really enjoy this film, one has to actuallylike these clay gnomes that frequently inhabit many gardens in theWestern world. I personally don't like them myself, which perhapsdidn't help to curb my lack of optimism for this film when I saw thetrailer. I personally find these gnomes lifeless and kind of ugly.Imagine how creepy it seemed to me when they started moving around likethey were possessed. Now, I never felt this way about Toy Story--whentoys came alive they all looked very different from each other, movedand walked differently, and as a result, had their own uniquepersonality which fit their shape, texture, and material. Majority ofthese gnomes have a similarity in look and like those glazed gnomes inreal life, they have glassy eyes, which looked just about as lifeless.Admittedly, it was always a plus when I saw a character that wasn't agnome. Now, don't get me wrong--I do appreciate kitschy ornaments, retro stuff in particular, such as the plastic pink flamingo, which wasrather cool to see in this film. I wished I had seen more of the"other" kitschy ornaments--it may have brought in a little morecharacter. Maybe throw in some rusty Coca-Cola memorabilia and othercool, retro geeky stuff. And, possibly dump this overused Shakespeareplot along the way, perhaps? Just a thought. AdvertisementNow, given that this film is based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Ipaid extra attention to the romantic aspect of this film. It's cute, but pretty typical, standard stuff. It's a little hard to imagine anywarm, fuzzy kind of love between two stoney objects. Still, it ishelped much by good voice acting and animation, even if I didn't thinkthey were very attractive as a couple (at least in any way I'm usedto). Their personalities were likable and believable despite their lackof subtlety in expressions. Directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2), there are many nods to modern popculture, humor, and modern music throughout this film. For the mostpart, they are entertaining, even if they are not particularlylaugh-out-loud material. Shrek 2 certainly had more of it. There are agood number of clever moments that play with the whole idea of thesecharacters being clay gnomes, hampered by the material they are madeof. They make hollow, clinking sounds when they move, they are fragile, and they often sink in water. I enjoyed the plastic pink flamingocharacter which skipped along with its wiry legs. As for the story, Icouldn't help but feel this film was weighed down by the all toofamiliar aspects of the Romeo and Juliet plot, but I suppose this couldbe a good intro to the play for the kids. There is an amusing scenewith Shakespearian actor Patrick Stewart lending his voice as a WilliamShakespeare statue. This film may not quite reach the quality of Pixar, but it'sentertaining, mostly. The idea of using garden gnomes as characters isan original idea, but I've been bored with the Romeo and Juliet plotfor quite a while now, with all the teen romances these days. Thefilm's character designs were not my cup of tea, but I'm sure they'remore than adequate for others. The film felt a tad long as well, givenmy familiarity of the plot. The whole garden thing is a cool gimmick, but I think it may have worked better as a short film than a feature. But, that's just me. Kids will have much fun with this one, I'm prettysure. You can find more of my movie review updates onhttp://twitter.com/d_art
