***SPOILERS*** The good times came to end when Parker Joe & Dan, EmmaBell Shawn Ashmore & Kevin Zegers, got stuck on a ski-lift. They hadpaid the ski-lift operator Jason,Ed Ackerman, to let them take just onelast ride. He was then suddenly replaced by his boss. Not knowing thatthere were still people on the ski-lift, he shut it down with the threeleft hanging in the freezing cold winter air.The movie "Frozen" shows how isolation cold and a wolf pack, the firstone seen in the area since the late 1890's, can drive a group of happygo lucky collage students over the line into a state of insanity. Asthe cold started to set in panic took over with Parker Joe & Danrealizing that they might not make it through the frozen and snowy NewEngland night if their not found in time. With a pack of hungry wolvescoming out of the woods and beginning to circle underneath the trio, waiting from them to drop into their jaws, it soon turned out that thecold and snow was the least of their problems. As the cold and darkness start to overtake the three sheer panic soonstarts to set in in them knowing that the ski resort won't reopen untilFriday some five days away! By then they'll be all frozen solid stuckto the ski-lift as frozen as as the fish sold at the Fulton Street FishMarket! It's Dan who first decides to take a chance by jumping off theski-life, some 50 feet above ground, only ending up with both his legsbroken and becoming a welcome meal for the wolves who were waiting forhim. With only Parker & Joe left it was decided by them that Joe wouldtry to somehow get down, without breaking his legs and getting eaten upby the wolf pack, the ski lift and go for help. That's if there's stillanyone around the ski-resort to help them.***SPOILERS*** The film "Frozen" being filmed entirely outdoors in thecold New England winter and not, in some of its more dangerous scenes,in a studio really hit the spot in terrifying it's audience as well asthe actors in it. You never for a moment felt that help would come andwhen it did is was just a little too late to really help anyone in themovie. Even the soul survivor in it who was far more dead then alive byth time the film ended!

Worth watching once.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I saw a preview on Frozen and thought I would watch it. I'm not in to these kinds of movies so I wasn't sure how I would like it. The movie was okay. Not the best movie I have ever watched, but not the worst either. The acting and story was okay. It is scary to think something like that could happen to you. It was worth watching once, but don't think I would ever watch it again.

...never going skiing. Ever.

For a film that mainly revolves around a cast of three to carry themovie, seven stars can seem like seventeen. What makes this film workis the realism. Every choice, every consequence, everything! Like amovie studio trying to emulate the moments before a car accident, thenits aftermath.I'm not one of these reviewers that will take you through the entireplot of the film. Especially in this case. This film's simplicityworks. Three skiers accidentally get forgotten on a ski lift as theresort closes for the week. That's it! Yet, this simple formula works better than any horror movieI have seen in a long, LONG time! This opinion may be a little biasedand I'll tell you why. Personally, I am petrified of open heights. AdamGreen's chosen camera placements are well picked, never once allowingany hints of fiction into the story. That's the beauty of shooting onlocation, despite how deadly the location can be.Deadly, indeed! This movie really got under my skin. Not in anywaygore-filled, like "Hatchet" or its sequel. So for all the gore-houndsout there scanning the reviews for bloody details before watching it,make-up effects enthusiasts won't be completely disappointed, but it'sno "Hatchtet". However, Adam Green focuses more on hisActor's/Actresses' reactions to the horrors within the film. Thisworks! Lord, does it work! I'm a huge GOREHOUND, I welcome squeamishscenes, but the subtle incidents that happen to these characters whileexposed to harsh weather works better than a graphic depiction of achainsaw to the gut! I'm almost ashamed to admit that I had to turnaway and groan at what I witnessed on screen! This is from someone whogiggled like a girl-scout throughout "A Serbian Film"! "Frozen" works! In all the right ways! My only complaints about the film are the lackof themes. Usually a survival-horror like this contains some smug themethat ties the film together, a topic the film tries to make aware toits audience. Romero does the aforementioned flawlessly, just toprovide one example. "Dawn of the Dead" and its issue of consumerism. For example, one would assume that being trapped with two other peoplein a situation like that, the throes of "cabin fever" would naturallywork its way into the script. Yet, Adam Green chooses to focus on thereality of the situation his characters find themselves in. As aresult, the film remains simple. Leaving the audience with no otherthought to ponder upon besides their own feelings of fear. To some, this may be a compliment to the film, to others, a weak link. The dialogue is probably the strongest device in the film. Revolvingyour film around only three characters, the script better be able tokeep the dialogue interesting or your audience is going to give up onthese characters. Adam Green's dialogue is just that, interesting.Realizing the situation the characters find themselves in, theconversations that follows feels significant, but above all genuine.Dialogue, outweighs the action, so be prepared for a lot of talking. However, when the action arrives it's like an avalanche; disastrous, yet magnetic. I was, literally, frozen, couldn't take my eyes off thescreen.I've said enough...To reiterate a few points, I have to say, again, this film really shookme. After it was over I had a deeper appreciation for the bed I waswatching it in. I also made a vow never, EVER to go skiing.

Pretty impressive

Essentially there's some people and they get trapped while using theski-lift. They're stranded and things get worse when... well actuallythey're about as bad as things get.Incredibly, there are gory parts and surprisingly enough what littlegore there is strikes deeper than many "depraved" films. Consideringthe amount of agony from merely spraining an ankle, seeing the amountof leg trauma one character suffers while jumping is something I'ddread to imagine! And then the skin-peeling scene was just, well, describable. The only problem is the protagonists scammed their way onto the lift, which makes it a little less believable they, specifically, would bethe ones left trapped on a lift.

The taut set-up is enjoyable all by itself, but it's the rising tide of three-way recriminations and despair that gives this film emotional clout.

This is sooooo bad

This has to be one of the worst movies ever. I don't know what studiowould think this was a good idea. I imagine the director is a completeidiot that knows nothing about skiing or winter or snow. Where the heckdid the wolves come from? And why are they eating people at a skiresort in broad daylight? Wouldn't wolves be a regular problem at thisresort when it's open if they are running around eating people whenit's closed? You can imagine the head of this fictitious ski resortsaying "oh, another wolf attack in broad daylight today, oh shucks."Seriously, this movie makes absolutely no sense and I would not suggestyou waste your time with it.

A Good Movie....Well Written, Directed, and Acted

The plot is quite simple, three young people are stranded on a ski lift on Sunday evening and face a multi-day ordeal in freezing temperatures. This is a horror movie but very familiar, natural sources of the horror: extreme cold, great height, and hungry wolves. No lunatics with chain saws, no superhuman mutant psychopaths in ski masks, simply Mother Nature at her worst. In most such movies, the young victims can be counted on to make all sorts of idiotic mistakes and illogical moves, but in this one the beleaguered trio behave much like "normal" people (i.e. you and I) would in this situation. Another plus is that the film does not exploit bloody violence, nudity and gratuitous sex, foul language, or any other of the cliches inevitably found in movies of this genre. I found the female lead, Emma Bell, to be attractive, wholesome, humorous, and quite likable. Indeed, the viewer quickly becomes involved in the plot and with all three actors, sharing in their suffering, sacrifice, and (minor) triumphs. The plot is reminiscent of Open Water and relies heavily upon close ups of the three stars, their dialog, and interaction. This requires a good script, capable actors, and a completely realistic environment, which is provided (in spades) by filming at night, in freezing temperatures on a snowy mountain in Utah.I think about half of the suffering evident in the actor's faces and voices was real and not "acting" at all. This must have been quite an ordeal to produce, and in my opinion it was worth it, because the viewer shares completely in every realistic, harrowing, agonizing second. I recommend this movie to all who are tired of the same old recycled, cliched teenager-in-danger garbage. This is a good production, worthy of your time and money.

Frozen delivers enough thrills and gory chills to satisfy the horror film crowd, but is not written, directed or acted well enough to be a first-rate thriller.

A noble way of film making

One of the links I regularly use in IMDb before watching a movie withthe family is the "Parents Guide".In France, the parents advisory guide is worthless. Almost all filmsare branded "Tous Public". Sometimes, you can get a nasty surprise whenwatching a French drama stamped no restrictions (As parents we had tostop a French family movie DVD that contained an explicit blow jobscene !).Strangely, according to French criteria, this DVD "Frozen" was stampednot watchable under 12.I was really surprised because it is very rare. I took the chance andexpected to see some kind of slasher (I rarely read the synopsis beforewatching a movie). I was right to base my judgment on IMDb parents guide then the Frenchone. The movie is not a violent, teenage brainwashed, gore movie. It is simply a good thriller. The crew have gone to great pains to avoid green screen and CG effects.Which is a very very very noble way of film making in view of the crapthat Hollywood is spitting out nowadays. Most of the movie is filled with dialogs which are quite well-written.Had a good time watching this movie on a cold Saturday night.

Disturbed

After almost a year I finally got to see this movie. From the commercials on youtube I noticed it was like an Open Water type of movie where the 3 had to survive, but only they were suspended multiple feet in the air in the freezing cold for a few days or eaten alive by wolves instead of being stranded in the ocean. If you're not into watching survival type movies or suspenseful movies then don't bother seeing it. If you are interested in watching this movie then I hope you have a good stomach for one horrid scene.

It wants to be a real chiller, but comes out curiously lukewarm.

Open Water redone - this time around water is frozen!

I shouldn't expect much from horror/thriller movies, that's why I canonly watch them when I am drunk, but even being drunk I was forced outof my stupor with disbelief, and loud laughter! Obviously the producersof this thought Open Water made a lot of money with a shoestringbudget, so let's do it again. This movie is basically Open Water withdifferent characters and settings. I have no problem with horror moviesbeing ridiculous because most deal with supernatural events andelements to begin with, therefore realism is not expected. This onethough unwittingly makes an attempt to rely on the natural world tocreate thrills. They are suspended on the air in an ominous atmosphere,so far so good, until one of the guys decides to jump. The guy wassitting high up there and said he would jump. I was saying to myself ina movie of this quality the guy is bound to just jump without cuttingthe height the full length of his body by hanging from the chair he wassitting on, never mind making a makeshift rope, when it happened and Iburst into laughter, and if that was not enough the guy lands soupright he should win the medal for the worst landing ever achieved byany animal. I once landed exactly like that and hit the bottom of apool when I misjudged the depth of water, but no one in his right mindwould land like that from a height, and even if one did it wouldshatter his spine first before breaking his legs (I felt lower backpain from my experience). And if that ridiculousness wasn't enough weare treated to a pack of wolves whose senses were so keen they mistookthe guy for a newborn deer, and why wouldn't they, for his jacket wasmade from deer skin, he was transfused with moose blood and his brokenbones looked like hooves! I know baby deers don't give off odour, butwolves can smell humans from miles away and avoid them, that's why onecan only see wolves with binoculars. And there shouldn't be wolvesthere anyway, this is not 1560 wilderness America. I understand this isa movie, and some terrible things should happen to the protagonists, but I rather watch some mutant monster attack them than the noble, majestic wolf.So there they are suspended on the air -in the supposed subzerotemperatures- a couple of incredibly stupid young men and a crying, shrieking, cowering, whining, annoying little girl who is missing hisparents, and whose fate I couldn't care less. Those enjoying this utter crap and ranking it high lack proper braincells or are way too high themselves. The rest of you should avoid itat all costs. I give it two stars because it made me laugh a couple oftimes. With that said I bid you farewell and don't forget to check myreview next time when I am bored enough to rank a crap movie I am highenough to watch.

An entertaining movie

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Some reviewers will write a "Deep Frozen Water" or "Jaws with Paws" style of review. That might be a valid criticism except most moves have been "done". I am not sure that we have much "original" movies, books or television. I am not looking for a deep message or an original concept but do want to be entertained. This is an entertaining move. The story is believable, the dialog accurate and the failing of the system on target. The result is a solid story, well filmed that is enjoyable. If you like movies pitting kids against an implacable foe, you should like this one.

Wont win any awards, but not a bad attempt

The premise is a little too contrived. Three young skiers at a mountainski resort talk a chairlift operator into letting them have one lastski before it closes for the night. Although the lift has just beenshut down, he reluctantly agrees and sends the three up the mountain, the last skiers for the night. Through an employee miscommunication, believing the three had already skied back down, the chairlift ispowered down midway to the mountain top and the trio are left suspendedin the air some 75 feet or so above the slope. And no one knows theyare up there. Lights are turned out throughout the slopes andbuildings, and the forgotten skiers are left stranded alone on a dark, freezing, mountain until the resort re-opens days later. I guess thefirst thing I had to ask is, could this actually happen? Perhaps, buthighly unlikely. One thing this movie demands of you from the outset itto accept an illogical world where something like that could possiblytake place. But once the circumstance is revealed and we are committedto it, then the movie gets interesting. Frozen is really a survival story combining human stamina andpsychological will with an unrealistic, yet not implausible, tragiccircumstance. Although the production value has it's obvious limits, the dialog is predictably shallow, the actors emotive, and the specialeffects are somewhat amateurish (watch for the repeating snow flakepatterns), the film still is...not bad. It does progress from cocky andstupid to scary and interesting. It appears to have been filmed on areal chairlift which makes it very real. What I do like about the plotis it requires you to ask yourself what would you do? Forget how thishappened, what would you do to get out of it? It was because I wasthinking this that it occurred to me the film did it's job in drawingme in. The direction does a respectable job of capturing the eerinessand brutality of the mountain. There are moments of genuine shock valueand one particular moment of graphic violence. It is something akin tosimilar snowy survival tales such as Alive and Donner Party. But again, too many illogical things need to take place in order for this tragedyto unfold and sustain itself.Don't expect too much out of this film. It has it's problems, it couldhave been done much better in places. But overall it does retain adecent pacing and calibration of events to keep your attention. Decentpopcorn flick, but won't change lives.

Not as good as people think

Some people have mentioned horror with this title, and I would like toask them if they watched a directors cut? What I watched was veryboring, and very far from another review i had seen on here, theymentioned the following. "1: very scary, 2: cinematography excellent,3:sense of danger in the action scenes is almost unbearable at times,4:The jump from the chair lift is one of the most horrific and painfulthings I've ever seen on film." None of the above mentioned was reallyat all apparent in this film, at any point. All i can say is for what I'm guessing is a small budget picture, theacting isn't bad, not great either, but this film seems to play outmore as a suspense drama than a horror, the review i read on here I canonly surmise was written by a crew member, or possibly the director.I am a bit of a detail freak, and there were many faults with thisfilm. But I feel mentioning them will spoil what there is to this film, but i will mention a couple of things that I hated most about thispicture. They started suffering and complaining about frostbite to theface practically from the very beginning, but it didn't bother themthat zipping up the jackets would solve this, no steam from mouths insub zero atmosphere and many others.Looking back on this review it seems I've been somewhat critical aboutthis film. It was obviously done on a very cheap budget, but I base myreview mainly on the previous positive comments on here.how its currently rated at 7 i'll never know???????

you will get Frozen at your screen

People who have seen flicks from Adam Green, the director of Frozen, knows that you are in for the purest gore you can have. Remember theHatchet franchise. But here Adam will let the gorehounds down becausethis isn't a slasher or your typical gore galore fest, this is natureagainst humanity. The idea is very simple, getting stuck in the snow. The first half hour you will get to know the characters, the last houryou're into misery to big problems. This is what you could expect whenyou are in danger, people arguing about who's wrong and the who's andthe why's. And of course their had to be a bad guy in it, nature is itto be specific, wolves are. There is knowing Adam some blood in it anda small bit of gore but it's so strange that when you are confrontedwith the 3 main characters you ask yourself what is going to happennext. Nice flick, simple story but what a suspense.

Simple, realistic and frightening

This movie is flat out scary. Similar to "Open Water", in it's no nonsense delivery, this will give you a constant uneasy feeling throughout it's only 90 minute running time. This is not corny horror by any stretch. Everything that happens appears somewhat believable, and you are forced to imagine yourself in a similar predicament. If you enjoy Disney happy endings with sunshine and lollypops, this is not for you. If you enjoy gritty, realistic, brutal nature...this is a must watch.

absolutely excellent - will keep you on the edge of your seat

This film just opened today in limited release and I just came backfrom watching this film. Very few films take us through a real originaldisturbing and masterfully crafted edge of your seatthriller/drama/horror adventure movie....All I have to say is...studios look and learn. I could only hope more films were thisengrossing. As I watched I was so involved in what was going on, mypopcorn and coke fell out of my hands. This is a really truly horrificscenario that is so real and could very much happen just about anywhereat anytime and without notice. The actors, Kevin Zegers, Shawn Ashmoreand Emma Bell gave nothing short of outstanding performance and thedirection is flawless. Saw Zegers in Transamerica and really like hischoice of work... have been following him for sometime now and I lookforward to seeing more work from Shawn Ashmore and Emma - all verygifted actors who really own their craft. Back to the film... I wasinmerse from the get go till the end and you never see nothing comingwhich is exactly how I love my movie-going experience. Theadvertisements were right... this is the Jaws, pirahna, whateveropportunistic disaster movie you can think of, for a new generation.Highly, highly, highly recommended.... you will not bedisappointed!!!!! It's an absolute gem of a film. Don't let anyone tellyou about it - GO SEE IT!!!!
