Great movie for the kids

My son received this movie for Christmas and he loved it. I think it shows that people that think they are not missing something in their life, could be wrong about that. I don't want to give the movie away but it teaches how kids can change a life in just a matter of time.

7.8 at IMDb ... ? Wow.

While I agree with the rating, I'm sure I got there via other means. Ihave to ask if this is a fair rating of the movie, or if this filmgarnered a 7.8/10 due to flaccid choices at the box office? Either way, this is a deserving summer sleeper hit, which will find its way into mycollection.Morals and life's lessons set aside, the movie is fun, witty, sweet, amusing, and entertains while still managing to maintain a coherentstory. The lessons are pretty standard, the morals are slippery, andthe animation is pretty decent, but the overall effect is greater thanthe individual components. No slick production style, just cute, cute, cute, which would normally have me hurling into the nearest trashreceptacle but herein, it works. We actually laughed through 90% of this film, which is pretty amazingfor us.Loved it.It rates a 7.7/10 from...the Fiend :.

Consider me tickled I enjoyed Despicable Me more than Toy Story 3.

I know that many people are going to knock me around for this review, and I understand that, but I really throughly enjoyed the new animatedfilm Despicable Me.I see many films every year, including How To Train Your Dragon from myown studio, Dreamworks, which was an excellent film. Shrek 4, not somuch. Then comes Toy Story 3, the latest adventure with Buzz and Woody. While it was great to see them back on the big screen, I wasn't asimpressed with the third film as many critics and fans of the serieswere, and I feel that the inevitable fourth Toy Story film should goback to basics and focus on the central characters like Buzz and Woodyagain.Which leads me to Despicable Me. Now, like most other people, thetrailers really didn't interest me at all. It was only after my youngdaughter had heard from her classmates how great the film was to watchand how much that children had really enjoyed it.So, I took my family to see this film, and man, I really enjoyed it!Steve Carrell's Gru is the first animated anti-hero that I reallyenjoyed watching. Where Toy Story 3 was filled with many mean spiritedcharacters that actually frightened many small children (I heard manychildren screaming at times.) Despicable Me was definitely more lighthearted. Was Despicable Me a better written movie than Toy Story 3? No.But was it more enjoyable? Yes, I would have to say so. I enjoyed thelight hearted spirit of the film, rather than the dark tone of thelatest Pixar film and the minons easily steal the film.I can see Despicable Me become a series of animated hits for Universaland with great word of mouth spreading, I think that the filmmakershave made one winner of a great animated film. Despicable Me was farbetter than the last Shrek film, and more enjoyable than the latest ToyStory film for me and my family. I understand many will disagree withmy review, and that's fine with me.

Still laughing the next day

This may be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. As many have already said, it isn't Pixar and it won't change the world, but if you want a good laugh don't miss it. Pay the extra for the 3D as well. The finale still has me laughing a day later.Don't leave before the rolling credits either. You'll miss some Minion action.

Despicable me Blu-RayDVD, Discrimination At Its Best!

Anyone get this movie that saw it in the theater? Well I did, and am I PIS**D OFF! Not only did they not include subtitles for the minions during the credits, but they are still discriminating against people that do not have smart-phones. I have now paid over $50 and still have no idea what they are saying!!!I will no longer be purchasing any movies from this production company or even go to see them at the theater. This action on the part of the studio becomes an advocate of illegal downloading. I myself will not resort to illegal activity, but many have stated that they will rather than give this company any money for discriminating against them.

Very Entertaining!

This review is from: Despicable Me (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) I saw this movie when it was in theaters and as soon as it came out I knew I had to have it. Everyone I have watched this with has loved it. This was a great purchase!!

You will all hate me for saying it, but I didnt love this movie

The movie was strong in most moments but went downhill in others. Parts in the storyline needed improving. Gru adopting three little girls for an evil plan was the only part of the plot I found really clever. If you're a great lover of comedy and don't mind a few movie mistakes, then you will enjoy this a lot more than I did.

Light Bulb!

Light Bulb." It took a little time for the light bulb to turn on in"Despicable Me", but when it finally does it actually becomes a goodfilm. The slow start almost ruined it for me but luckily the visualswere good enough to keep me intrigued while the directors Pierre Coffinand Chris Renaud figured out where they were going with the movie. AndI must say when they finally figured things out it completely turnedthe movie around for the better. The movie has an all-star voice cast, but ironically the actors changedtheir voices so much that they are almost unrecognizable. This actuallymakes the characters memorable as themselves and not as the actors whovoice them. Russell Brand who voices Gru's assistant Dr. Nefario iscompletely unrecognizable and I only knew it was him because of thecredits. Even Will Arnett, who I find hilarious because of his deepraspy voice, was barely recognizable as voicing the bank manager Mr.Perkins. Steve Carell almost disappointed me with his vocal performanceof Gru. The Russian accent he used for Gru was just okay and it seemedlike it took him half the movie to get comfortable with the character.Luckily for him the animation of Gru was so good that the characterwould have been funny voiced by anyone.Read full review at FlicksWorthWatching.com

Michael Gru Scott

Before I watched this movie, I didn't expected to cry at all because Ithought it's just one of the kids movie, and I was pretty confidentthat I'm not gonna cry for those cheesy stuffs. However, the movie haddefinitely me in tears, and I laughed a lot too. Although I couldn't understand what the yellow creature is till end, bythe way Gru said they are his cousin, they are so weird and cute!! andyou don't care whatever it is if it's just lovable, do you?One thing I couldn't be satisfied about this movie is Steve Carell'svoice reminded me of Michael Scott too much, and I couldn't focused onhis character. I guess this is just my problem because I'm so addictedto the TV show "The Office", so if you are not a big fan of that TVshow, I guarantee you can enjoy the movie very much with or withoutyour kids!

A Fair Film for all

Despicable Me is base on a story according to the credits. By all theadvertising, one might think that this would a disaster. Well Theirwrong. The story centers on a international villain who plans to capture themoon with the help of 3 orphans. The movie has definitely introduced aline of lovable memorable characters that might be inspired of such asGarfield: The Movie and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to name a few(and even an episode of Pompeii Pete from The Wacky World of TexAvery). The marketing contain yellow characters known to be Minions. The animation is in CGI/3-D, what we've come to see so much of thesedays. Not only do some of the backgrounds a what matches the movie, butthe characters all look so mild and were made with the right people. The show makes use of exaggerated anatomy with various-shaped heads, but by taking a good look at the show, one would realize thatexaggerated anatomy doesn't work in 3-D. The animation is very smoothand work as well in 3-D.Despite the issues Gru is having, there are still some good times to behad with Agnes and her Unicorn. then you've likely seen it in thecommercials. This is a rather touchy subject and varies between theviewers.

Youd have to be a Despicable person not to see this movie!

Sure, it's fun to see movies like Inception, Predators, The Expendables. I enjoyed all three of those movies I saw. But then again, it's also fun to get a release and go see one of those cute films that is just a nice little fun, clean release. And "Despicable Me" is just that! I did indeed see Toy Story 3 and loved it, but believe it or not, I may have enjoyed this movie just a bit more. Despicable Me is 90 minutes of pure fun. It's safe for the whole family, and is wacky, out there FUN. Parents will not have to worry about seeing their characters looking at death straight in the eye in an incinerator, or there being rude jokes aplenty, because your kid will love this and so will you. You'll be surprised at how great the characters are, or how quirky and fun the minions can be, and how much you'll be laughing. And to top it all off, this film in 3D has some of the best 3D I've seen! The film is about Gru, a foreign criminal who is skilled in stealing massive objects. He has stolen many things in a lifetime alone, from the Times Square Jumbotron to the Paris Eiffel Tower. He runs an army of cute yellow minions, and he plans to steal the moon, his greatest crime. However though, a copycat named Vector, who is smarter than him too, has stolen the pyramid of Giza and replaced it with an inflatable one. To add insult to injury, he now has to adopt THREE little girls. As if working too hard wasn't enough? He's gonna have a hard time running those lives!!!This film has it all. Great humor, cute animation, Good 3D (STAY THROUGH THE END CREDITS!!!), and some good voice acting. If you want some good clean fun, be sure to see this movie!

OK for young children

Oh Dear! This is fine you children 8 and under. However, for anyoneolder the plot is highly predictable, the characterisation belabouredand most of the jokes purile in the extreme. Comparisons with similarrecent offerings (UP, Toy Story 3, How to Tame your Dragon) areinevitable and DM does not compare well on any measure you care to use.Might be worth buying the DVD to keep young kids occupied for 90minutes when it's raining, but there are far better animated films outthere that will entertain you better and will be worth a second orthird showing.Dadstheman

Despicable Me - Not Despicable At All

Really just a fun fun movie for the whole family. Had everyone watching this one including ages 3, 9, 15, 34, etc. up to grandmom. It did not disappoint keeping everyone's attention for the whole movie! The plot was way more then I was thinking we were going to see so that was a bonus. Graphics/animation were very well done to be sure! I would recommend this movie to anyone of any age group!

Fun for the whole family

I watched the preview screening of this hosted by Sky.This film is fantastic for all the family. I enjoyed it as much as mostof the children that were in the screening. It was really nice to hearthem all laughing and that made us laugh more. There were a couple of jokes in the film which only applied to theadults and you could hear the adults laugh but no children. It wasreally funny. There were jokes that stood out and we talked about afterwe left the cinema. The plot was also good and easy to follow and I didn't notice anypoints where it got slow. All the characters were great particularly the minions. Its the best 3D film I have seen so far, all in all a great film foreveryone!

Despicable Blockbuster!

'DESPICABLE ME': Three Stars (Out of Five) Comedians Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett andKristen Wiig all lend their voices to this popular animatedblockbuster. Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud direct the CGI animatedfilm, a first from Universal Pictures and it's IlluminationEntertainment division. The script is written by Ken Daurio and CincoPaul (the same team behind the 'HORTON HEARS A WHO!' film, alsofeaturing Carell's vocal talents in a leading role) from a story bylong time animator and first time writer Sergio Pablos. The film is oneof two popular CGI animated features this year revolving around a 'badguy' who's not so bad at heart and learns to be good through love andappreciation (the other being the DreamWorks Animation blockbuster'MEGAMIND', which I watched the same day). The film is set in a fictitious suburban town where evil criminalmastermind Gru (Carell) lives in a black dreary house. Underneath thehouse is a hidden workshop where dozens of little creatures, hisminions, work on new gadgets like freezing and shrinking ray guns. Gruhas been a genius since childhood but never been able to impress hisoverbearing mother (Julie Andrews). So he's turned to a life of crimeand all things 'despicable'. When another evil villain known as Vector(unrecognizably voiced by Segel) steals the Egyptian pyramid andtherefor tops Gru as the world's number one villain Gru devises a planto shrink and steal the moon in order to win back his notoriety. Afterhe steals the shrink gun necessary to pull off the heist Vector stealsit from him and Gru will stop at nothing to get it back. He devises aplan that involves three orphan children sneaking into the youngvillains house with robot cookies and adopts the kids from a localorphanage in order to pull it off. While first quickly becoming annoyedand frustrated with the kids he of course learns to love them and thisobviously gets in the way of his plans. The movie has a classic somewhat older style cartoon feel to it and theanimation is interesting. While it is extremely silly, cheesy andridiculous it's also very funny at times. The cast of voices are allexcellent and humorous (although Carell obviously borrows a lot fromMike Myers' 'Dr. Evil'). There's definitely nothing new or unique to itand what little emotion there is to it is forced and over done but it'sobviously intended for kids, and on that level it succeeds (I watchedthe movie with two of my nephews and they loved it). A good kids movieshould be able to entertain adults as well as kids I always say andthis move has enough funny and amusing moments to keep an older crowdinterested as well. The film overall is a slightly above averageanimated comedy.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYbw_OZUFso

What the animation is all about - character

With modern 3D technologies the animation becomes in some part sosimilar to reality that I have started wondering where is the good oldschool of cartoon. That current direction of insisting on realism, realskin, real fur, real effects of water, air, dust, as many as possiblecomputers used, do not have any special value in animation on its own. What is important is the story and characters expressed in a simplerform. If you share this opinion and want to see the story andcharacters and not to care if the first installment looks old to thesecond one which looks again old to the third one, then you will findthis movie being simply excellent.
