Hate night
I expected sooooo much more from talented Carrell and Fey! Other than a few sight gags, there is not a moment we havent seen before on film. The premise is intrigueing, however the film is reduced to cheap car chases and false bravado stand-offs and eventually fails to deliver. It appears Mark Wahlberg and Ray Liotta stand there wondering how their agents talked them into this mess. Thoroughly dissapointing.

HILARIOUS - especially for married couples
This was just right for my wife and I to relax and laugh at our lives. Married life in suburbia can seem like a drag. Watching Steve Carell and Tina Fey's "date night" start our as normal and monotonous and end in violence, danger, and funny escapades was highly entertaining. I understand some disappointment as this was not the typical Saturday Night Live Carell/Fey everyone may have been expecting. But for us, it was better. We still quote lines and laugh at each other months after seeing this movie.

Mediocre at best!
If you have absolutely nothing better to do and don't mind not really being entertained, Then go ahead and go see it.Weak story, long and BORING!!! It's really pretty generic throughout the entire film.I will say, The chemistry between Fey and Carell was very good. Had they been provided a better script, this film would have been enjoyable.

Laugh Out Loud
After dinner with friends, we settled in to watch this film and laughedand laughed and laughed. We were four women and a man and all of usappreciated the language, the jokes, the married peopleangst-is-this-all-it-is stuff. Tina Fey and Steve Carrell werebrilliant. Everything from the stories about fellow diners, to theirinnocents-in-the-city style. The trailer just doesn't do justice to theactual film. The pace kept you interested from beginning to end andthere weren't any "this is too much silly" moments. How awesome to haveseen this movie with friends the night that Tina Fey received her MarkTwain award. Recommend for the great cast, the pace, the dialogue, thelaughter, the soundtrack.

I Have yet to see Carell in something that sucks!
Steve Carell can do no wrong! I tell you i have yet to see thishilarious guy in anything that sucks. Im not a big Tina Fey fan howevershe held her own pretty good with Carell. A lot of reviews posted saidthis was unfunny and all i have to say about that is, if you are not aSteve Carell fan you will not enjoy it. His comedic style is quiterefreshing today when it seems comedies are much more miss then hit. Imyself have been married to the same woman for almost 13 years and ithink couples like us in a long relationship will probably appreciatethis more then others. Number 3 in my top 5 fave actors list MarkWahlberg is actually quite funny in this being well.....himself andthat totally works for the character he plays. the Fosters are livingin a safe relationship and after Carell hears the wrong info he takesthe wife on a " night on the town" Pretty much one date that will makein turn them feel a little better about their so called hum drum lives.Great flick and so so glad that Steve Carell was introduced in my life!Oine funny dude!

PG-13?? Are You Out Of Your Mind?
There isn't a number low enough to describe this movie. And whichderelict exactly was responsible for the PG-13 rating anyway? I satthere between my teenagers literally cringing over the distastefulsexual content, etc., etc.. Sitting through scene after scene in thehopes that they would at some point get better, until we finally left, wishing we hadn't given this movie a single minute of our time. Yuck!Total yuck! Total and complete trash! A laugh or two here and there inthe theater seemed almost as contrived as the movie. Now I understandwhy Tina was so against Sarah. Sarah actually has a standard or two.I'll gladly ban any future Steve or Tina flicks going forward.

We loved it! One of our new faves.
I did not have high expectations of "Date Night," we ended up renting it because there was really no better alternatives. My husband and I were in tears from laughing so hard in a few portions of the movie and were very entertained throughout. The writing and acting are close to flawless and I loved all the cameos. Mila Kunis & James Franco were hilarious!I would not hesitiate to recommend this movie for a light and fun, well...date night!

Worst Movie Ever
The first part of the movie was really bad (including the attempts at humor); I don't know about the second half -- I just couldn't take any more -- six references to penis humor in less than a minute seemed to be excessive. There was no redeeming value in this pathetic attempt...

Love Tina Fey Steve Carell
If you enjoy comedies and can actually watch some thing without trying to be to seriouse you will love this movie. I laughed so hard tears were rolling down my face. They choose well to put these two together. They depict what a couple can go through after years of marriage, but the comedy in the entire movie was outstanding.

Professional Reviewers Owe to Us All
I have read so many "great reviews" of this film from the "top reviewers" from USA Today, Rolling Stone...etc... My question is "What type of substance was in your system when you saw the film?" It has to be THE WORST film of this year! We turned off the video after about 30 minutes. The jokes were "non-jokes" delivered with no sense of effective comedic acting. The main characters were excruciating (including the youngsters). The editing was so choppy, it was difficult to sense any natural flow to the scenes. The background music had little connection to the action and sounded like a retread of ominous tones of a "24" clone. The positive reviews would seem to be a reflection of how reviewers have either become so taken with the so-called star power of the leads (based upon TV work)or have been "bought" by the production companies that churn out this drivel. Granted, there are not many good comedies out there. But, give me a break. I cannot believe that the reviewers actually laughed at any of this. Unfortunately, the laugh is on the consumer.

What a Horrible Film!!
This film is absolutely awful. I'll never understand why film-writersof today seem to think that sexual innuendo in its rawest formconstitutes good humor. In his review, even Roger Ebert seems to missthis very important point. Though comics like Steve Carroll and TinaFey have the potential to do good humor, they repeatedly fail, and justlike Saturday Night Live has slipped into the unfortunate habit ofrelying upon frequent use of sexual innuendo (simply repeating the word"penis" without a context might be funny to a middle-schooler, but itquickly loses it's charm to the initiated) the writers of this filmcontinually attempt to use juvenile potty humor as a poor substitutefor genuine comedy. This tells us volumes about what Hollywood thinks about mainstreamAmerica, i.e. about you and I and our sophistication and moral statusas viewers. What happened to teams like Monty Python that could makeyou roll without dropping a single crude word? What happened to greatfilm-writers who didn't feel they had to push the social envelope allthe way to the gutter to get a laugh? Do they not know that the bestelements of humor are those that are subtle, i.e. those that requirethe viewer to insert something? The funnies scenes from this film are,as one might expect, the ones that contain none of this. Get a grip,Hollywood! You're out of touch! If you have any self respect, save your money.

Dissapointing
I expected more from talented Carrell and Fey! The script was just flat boring. Don't waste your time or money. Not even worth watching the DVD version. Thoroughly dissapointing.

Not as Funny as Expected
In "Date Night", I was expecting more comedy than I got. Tina Fey isone of the funniest people on earth, and Steve Carell is hysterical injust about everything he's in, with a few exceptions. But together, these two could barely get a laugh from me. I honestly blame thewriting. But Josh Klausner has had success with "Shrek the Third" and"Shrek Forever After". This time, however, not so. "Date Night" lacksin ways by trying to make this comedy into an action flick. Some sceneswere perfectly funny, like the cab scene. But overall, it just didn'tmake me laugh. It reminds me of something I saw on a late night show, where otherwise beautiful celebrities had their photos merged to createsome very un-pretty people, illustrating the point that combining someelements, although pleasing in their context, may not produce favorableresults.

Its basically a sex advertisement from start to finish
While watching this you'll face the suggestion of sex sex, sex ,sex andmore sex. They'll hint towards sex, sex, and more sex. They'll besexuality, sexuality and more sexuality. The whole entire movie was aaggressive comedy about sexuality. There is a plot but there's far more sexual under tones and sexualityin general than anything else in this entire movie. There isn't any sex in the movie but it's continuously about sex sex,sex...sex, sex...sex...It's a sensual, sexual movie, a sexy comedy. If you're into that sortof thing this movie nails it...no pun intended...

After hours
A New Jersey accountant, Phil Foster, trying to add some spark to hismarriage life, invites his wife, Claire, to dinner in Manhattan at atony restaurant where they have no reservations. Since their chancesare slim, at best, to have dinner that night at the high priced eatery,Phil decides to take someone else's reservation, as they are beingpaged to be seated. That's where everything goes wrong for the Fosters.Unknown to these somewhat naive couple, the people whose identity theyhave assumed, are being sought by some mafia types that want to showthem a lesson. The naturally baffled Fosters spent the whole timetrying to get out of the mess Phil created for them. They will becomeinvolved in chases, dangerous situations as they embark in theadventure of their lifetime. These squares from the 'burbs willprobably never go to eat out again for a long, long time.Shew Levy, of "Night at the Museum" fame, directed Josh Klausner'sscreenplay. This was clearly a vehicle for a much in demand comedyactors Steve Carell and Tina Fey, both having popular televisionprograms at the moment. "Date Night" has some funny moments. We keptthinking of a much original film, Martin Scorsese's "After Hours", thatdealt more, or less in the same type of situation. The supporting cast is excellent. There is the shirtless muscle manplayed by Mark Wahlberg, who can even speak Hebrew! Ray Liotta turns upto do another one of his bad guys. Busy James Franco has a small, butpivotal role. Taraji Henson is seen as a no-nonsense NYPD detective.Mark Ruffalo has a small part. Kristen Wiig, is a welcome addition toany movie. Mila Kunis and William Fichtner are also featured.Dean Semler, the cinematographer, did a fine job in capturing theManhattan of the wee hours with his usual style. The musical score isby Chris Beck.

Who likes shirts?.......
Phil and Claire Foster are a couple who have been married for severalyears. Their days consists of them taking care of their children andgoing to work and coming home and going to bed. But they find time tohave a date night wherein they go out and spend some time together. When another couple they know announce that they're separating becausethey're in a rut, Phil feels that he and Claire could be too. So whendate night comes Phil decides to do something different. So they gointo the city and try to get into a new popular restaurant. But when it's full and still wanting to do this, Phil decides to takethe reservation of a couple who doesn't show up. While they're havingdinner two men approach them and instructs them to stand up and go withthem. They think the men are with the restaurant and want to talk to themabout taking someone else's reservation. But it appears the couple whose reservation they took crossed someoneand the two men work for this person....It's basically another film about mistaken identity, but with theinclusion of Fey and Carrell, they bring it a notch above average. Theyare great together and bounce off each other when having sillydiscussions, but there are plot holes aplenty, and some of the visualjokes let the film down a little. The supporting cast are good, and with the exception of Wahlberg, theyare pretty much wasted. Liottaplays a stereotypical gangster, and thecliché of him eating in a restaurant with bodyguards is pretty cheesy. But other than that, it's fast paced, never boring and edited tightlyenough to keep the action and laughs constant. It's the type of film that needs believability thrown out of the windowto enable the audience to have a good time. There are enough funnylines and kooky characters to prevent the plot and story for what itis, a rehash of several other plots thrown together in order for twocomedians to be allowed to improvise. It's a guilty pleasure for sure, it's not intelligent comedy by anymeans, but comedy, and funny comedy nevertheless.

A good movie was inside this film somewhere
Date Night (2010), directed by Shawn Levy, had the potential to be avery funny movie. Phil and Claire Foster (Steve Carell and Tina Fey)are a fairly well off, fairly happy, suburban couple. They have aregular "date night" to keep their marriage from being boring. Theproblem is that date night has, itself, become boring. In a spontaneous moment, Phil and Claire decide to go to a new, trendyrestaurant in Manhattan, and, in a second spontaneous moment, theyclaim the table reserved for another (absent) couple. The rest of theplot unfolds from there.Tina Fey is a marvelous actor, and Carell does a satisfactory job too. They have enough chemistry between them to convince you that they couldbe married. The plot idea is clever enough to support a successfulromantic comedy-adventure. This could have been a funny movie, but itnever really took off.Despite some good one-liners, the movie's script was ponderous. Runningjokes ran on and on. A chase sequence lasted forever, and wasn't funnyto begin with. Worst of all, Tina Fey's talent for mimicry and mayhem is kept incheck. (Outtakes shown at the end of the film give a sense of what Feycould have done if she'd be given free rein.)All in all, not a bad movie, and worth seeing if nothing better isavailable. I saw it on a small screen and that worked well enough.Whether Date Night was worth the $12.99 fee that the hotel charged isanother matter.

Superior rom com
If you have seen the trailer, you very much know what to expect of thismovie. What raises it well above average, however, is the light touchand the genuine heart of the relationship between the two maincharacters. Steve Carell excels at the under-appreciated task of beinga comic everyman, without having to resort to over the top gurning andmugging, and Tina Fey is a worthy partner for him. For many, far toomany, recent romantic comedies, the makers seem to think that "come upwith high concept plot device, get two stars together, whether theyhave an iota of on-screen chemistry or not, and you are done". "DateNight" is that rare creature that understands that even for lightcomedy, you have to care about the protagonists before you care for themovie. If Carell and Fey make another film together, you can count mein.
