I Love This Show!!

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I love Kathy Reichs' writing, and I love this show. It's fun and interesting. The technology seem a little farfetched at times, but not much more than CSI is. I think the cast mesh well together, too.

BONES IS AWESOME

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) Very happy with this DVD set. Having double sided DVD's is convenient, even thought there is only one episode on a few of them.

Smart and Funny

Rarely does a new TV show capture my attention. The television industrydoesn't usually support and nurture their best, smartest shows so Idon't get attached to TV shows anymore--too many past disappointmentsand mind-numbing dialogue.I checked out Bones because David Boreanaz (Special Agent Seely Booth)is in the cast. David is an excellent actor and a favorite of mine. Ifollow his career. He can be quite funny and doesn't take himself tooseriously. He is also quite handsome and makes acting look easy andnatural. Special Agent Booth and Dr. Brennan are the main characters inBones and their chemistry is intriguing. I look forward to thedevelopment of this relationship. The shows' characters work out of a research lab at the JeffersonianInstitute in Washington DC. It is meant to resemble the SmithsonianInstitute. Fighting crime is not their first priority. The study ofhuman bones is. They are helping the FBI with cases involving bonesthat are difficult to identify.Emily Deschanel is fantastic in the role of Dr. Temperence Brennan. Herdelivery of her character's lines makes the viewer believe that Emilyreally is Dr. Brennan--the genius forensic scientist. She is somatter-of-fact. There is no "I am so smart" smugness or "She is toobeautiful, smart and sexy to be a forensic scientist" as in otherforensic shows. Dr. Brennan's social ineptitude and indifference iswhat makes her lovable and believable. So many of us feel similar inour social lives. Her honesty is endearing. Bringing closure to theloved ones of the deceased is very important to Dr. Brennan. Herparents disappeared when she was a teenager and she doesn't know whatbecame of them. This is an integral part of the storyline and definesher character. The Squint Squad, as the forensic team is referred as by the FBIagents, is perfectly cast. Named this because they squint intomicroscopes and such? Angela is the artist who does artisticreconstruction of the skeletons to get a visual of the person theSkelton used to be. She is warm, sexy, socially smart, flirtatious andthe best friend of Dr. Brennan. She is the only non-scientist in thelab. Dr. Brennan and Angela compliment each other and Angela shows theviewer the sensitive side of their work. Angela gets teary-eyed andnauseous when the scientists are cold and calculating. Angela adds theflesh to the bones and warmth to the Squint Squad by reminding them tohave fun and leave the lab every once in awhile. She also makes theforensics easy to understand for the viewers.Zack is the cute, lovable genius geek forensic science grad student. That's a mouthful. He is trying to impress Dr. Brennan at every turn.He usually does. Jack is the bug man of the Squint Squad. He is the defiant, skepticalentomologist--a conspiracy theorist that dislikes the government andpushes back at every opportunity. He seems to resent the FBI'sintrusion into his world. He is often trying to pick up women who comeinto the lab and not doing a very good job at it. But he does make uslaugh!Bones isn't a one town, one cast show. In its first season, Dr. Brennanand Agent Booth traveled to Washington State, Louisiana, Los Angelesand other interesting locales to investigate bones. They regularlyinteract with the locals--doctors, law enforcement and colorfulresidents-- in their investigations. Many of the bones they investigatehave significant historic backgrounds. Dr. Brennan, with the help ofthe team, is able to figure out the identity of the 200 year old bonesand what happened to them. The histories are fascinating, so are theways in which the team reveals them. The viewer learns more about thepersonal lives of the team in each show--usually through their reactionto an aspect of a case. The show also delves into current events such as the Iraq War andHurricane Katrina. In Louisiana, the camera showed the destruction fromHurricane Katrina. There were streets lined with piles of debris monthsafter the hurricane. Dr. Brennan went to help identify bodies and theviewer learned about the mental state of New Orleans, or at least theshows' view of it.The writing is smart, funny and fresh. I cannot find anything tocriticize and I am usually quite critical. I need intelligence in my entertainment and Bones delivers. It is justplain fun too.

BONES is incredibly addicting.....

The program has been on for almost a full three seasons and has kept me on my toes from week to week.....the cast is incredible ( you just have to love Zach, Hodgekins, Angela [really the most emotional of the Squints], Dr. Brennan and Booth )....and the only question I have is: When are Brennan and Booth going to get together...?

Technologically Interesting but otherwise routine

Happily, I see the show at this point is in its sixth season, so that nothing I might say will have any impact on its success. In brief, I did find the technical stuff interesting but the remainder of each show is a rather tedious, abbreviated rehash, of every man-professional woman relationship since Tracy and Hepburn made a series of classics (and, no doubt, before that). I have no quarrel with rehash when well done but here I find it so compressed and stereotyped as to make it nothing more than an adjunct to the modern machine stuff and predictable to boot.Overall, this first year would have discouraged me with it after several weeks were I watching it in real-time. Never having seen it on TV, perhaps I am mistreating an experience intended to be seen in 45 minute segments only once a week.Oh, yes, the discs themselves, while looking and sounding OK (so far as I can tell since I used the subtitles), forced me to get out the most powerful magnifying glasses I have just to read which side I was on and what it contained.

Complete nonsense!

Ha ha ha ha ha! My wife desperately wanted to like this show becauseshe has a background in anthropology. So I decided to check it out withher...This show reaches depths that I never knew existed. It featuresrelentlessly unrealistic characters (my favorite was the young ladythat exposes her breasts and later on explains how she wrote softwarethat can compose a 3D hologram from a physical skeleton -- simplystupid.) I liked the scenes of the hero putting together a skull to thestrains of a... love song? And that wasn't the only song in the show.Altogether, this show was wholly unbelievable.Needles to say, I won't be watching this crap again.

So close, yet so far from perfection.

Bones is a show that is inches away from perfect. Its character design, story telling, and humorous dialogue easily carry the show through each episode: right into a train wreck. The idea is simple: take the Odd Couple and have them solve crimes. While that may be simplifying things to their basest roots, the show does add in their own touch to the mix. Booth and Brennan are experts in their respective fields: Booth is a former Army Ranger turned FBI agent, and Brennan is a brilliant criminal anthropologist at the top of her field. The catch is that neither of these two people knows a thing about their partner's field, leading to awkward, and often humorous situations often involving Brennan eagerly asking for a gun or Booth using the most basic of terms in the midst of deep scientific conversation. The actors do a great job and perform excellently with the mix of drama and comedy that comes in every episode. The episode writing is always interesting, offering a good range of murders to solve, and often has the two main characters drawing themselves into the crime.Doesn't sound so bad, does it? So where does the train wreck start? Any time there is any emotional dialogue the show falls apart so quickly it can nearly ruin a perfectly good episode. The emotional dialogue might as well be written by George Lucas: it's that bad.Overall, Bones is a drama that's so close to being great that it's frustrating. Not every episode has the accursed emotional dialogue, and the ones that do usually only have 2 minutes of it. Hopefully with Season 2 the producers will see the light and hire some dialogue specialists. If it happens, there's no doubt the next season will get 5 stars.

Intelligent, witty, funny!

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) This is a unique series based on a book by a real life forensic anthropologist. I have laughed, cried, and marveled at the storyline, the chemistry, the quirky character development, and the amazing technology and thought processes presented in forensic crime solving. The action is fast-paced yet intelligently developed. I'm so happy that there are writers out there who haven't totally bought into the "dumbing down" that is so typical of television these past few years. It can be graphic at times (dead bodies, right?), so I wouldn't let the kids in on it. Enjoy!

Amazing!

This show is awesome! The stories are great, and the charactors are believeable. I was hooked on this show from day 1. Booth (dude from Buffy and Angle) is awesome.

Been here, Seen this More proof that there is nothing new on TV

This show is typical of all the current crime dramas on TV today, dulland predictable. Predictable because the stories are reused from allthe crime dramas that came before it.This show is so predictable you can tell what's going to happen in thefirst 3 minutes. I was so disappointed by the first show that I stoppedwatching it for a long time then I caught an episode part way through. In that episode an Arab American was killed when a bomb blew up his SUVand he was thought to be a mad bomber terrorist. I walked in while themain characters where asking the wife questions and a man was pacingnervously behind her in the back ground, it took me 3 seconds topredict the husband was murdered by his wife's lover and frame the deadman as a terrorist. 10 minutes later that was exactly the story.I wonder how much they paid the critics to like this crap.

One of My Favorites

Speaking for myself (I usually try too anyways), 'Bones' is a classyshow. The cast is so tight and appear to work very well together. DavidBoreanaz has Booth down to a 'T'. He is such a likable sort and guyscan't help but to relate to many of his observations. Angela and Hodgesare both exceptionally performed and are always interesting and fun towatch. Camille and Lance are both superb in all the shows – what isthere not to like. My favorite though (and that is why I waited tomention her last) is obviously Tempy. She is one of the coolestcharacters on TV and Emily Deschanel does a wonderful job in the roll.Being brilliant and having absolutely no social barriers allows her tomarch to her own drummer. If another character wishes to complementher, she almost always takes it as a belittlement of some kind and willnot accept the praise until ALL accolades are accounted for. Thedifficulty in playing this kind of character is how does one remainlikable. Usually such arrogance is rewarded with cancellation (and ifanother person was playing this part – it probably would havehappened.) In my opinion, I feel this is one of the best shows on TV.This is one program I will wait a week to see – and do so impatiently.

Getting Tired

Bones is a good show, and I have enjoyed it, but I really hope theyshake things up when they come back next season. It had gotten prettyrepetitive. At the end of last season, though, everybody went off in differentdirections, got new jobs, or went on scientific expeditions to far awayplaces.I'm afraid when they come back, they'll just spend a couple of episodesgetting everybody back to the lab, and get everything back to the wayit was.I hope not.I know it is a tough thing to do when you've got a hit show, but aftera while, a series really needs to re-invent itself or it gets stale.

New Twist on Crime

I have watched several police and crime type shows but when I firstcame across this show and discovered that there cases were based on notthe living but bones of the dead from leftover crimes. I found thisdifferent, a new twist on crimes and solving them. I have now fallen indeep with the show and enjoy watching it greatly. The characters areboth strong in the roles they all play and they still have that base ofcomical fun mixed in that keeps it amusing despite that they are whatyou would say "digging up the dead." I would have never thought that somuch could be understood by the right tools and the study of bones butthen again we do understand a great deal about the dinosaurs and theyhave been dead for centuries.

Bones-one of the best shows on TV

I simply loved this show. the chemistry between the characters isamazing. it is wonderful how each of the characters have several layersto them not just what you see is what you get. each of the charactershas their flaws but that is what makes the show seem real. the casesare interesting although gross at times. but hey you got expect thatfrom a show named "Bones"right? the sexual tension between Booth andBrennan is so thick you can slice it with a knife.the friendships ofthe characters really make the show even more interesting. i have afeeling though that they are going to push for some romance betweenBooth and Brennan or Angela and Hodgins before the series is overwith....hopefully both.but they don't put enough of some of thecharacters such as Dr.Goodman and Parker's mom, but i hear that in thesecond season they will be more of Parker's mom and another newcharacter... cant wait.

Pretty good...

I would have to agree with another poster, the chemistry between the two main characters is great. They are so funny together! I would say this is a mix between csi and a comedy.

wow where did miss Emily come from ??? !!!

her mom right ha-ha !! well i watched this last nite and i must sayEmily D is absolutely gorgeous !! kind of tall though but not a problem......my guess is this show wont go beyond probably 6 eps so I'mrecording every one now while i can ! she has a really sexy husky kindof voice, i was hoping she was from Canada but just saw her biog saidBoston mass, o well she covers every trace of a mass accentflawlessly....this show is kind of dry & lifeless from the tech nobabble of forensics and since a mix of romance and lab work rarelyworks well u get the idea.....also too many UN-needed characters hereif fox were smart they would resurrect the Xfiles for another decade,it COULD b done and i can easily see Emily D as a new generation DanaSculley maybe as a cousin or niece, replacing fox Mulder would b alasvery difficult, however i will now b renting everything Emily D hasever done , really like her a lot !!Toddster Ohio Univ college of film & cinematography

Funny all the Way

If you want to see how two people who are completely oposite can mash really well together, then you should watch this show. David Boreanaz at his best, like usual, and in a completely different type of character from Buffy or Angel. And Emily Deschanel, didn't know her, love her already. The character can be a little irritating, but that's exactly how it's suppose to be. Can hardly wait to see when the two of them hook up.Also the rest of the cast is really well chosen, funny characters all around, that complete the main characters perfectly. As for the stories, they're diverse and have a lot of technical specifics that make them very interesting to learn.

Bones - Season One

I love this show! The actors are wonderful and the writing is fabulous. I hope this show goes for a long time. I'm entertained and feel smarter when an episode ends! How great is that?!
