Disappointing, hastily written
I went into this with low expectations to begin with. and I left withthose suspicions confirmed. The movie seemed to be full of a lot ofpointless random scenes that were apparently inserted into the movie togive it an air of believability. In between the pointless stuff therewere a few genuine shock moments, but these were few and far between. The film's conceit of convincing the audience that this was a genuinedocumentary was ruined by the crappy cgi in the final scene,as well asby 2 HUGE plot holes. First, just how did the creatures get into theastronauts' suits without killing them in the process? And 2, just howare we supposed to believe that this movie was made using recoveredfootage when the film would have been obliterated in the finalcatastrophe? Besides, no one believes these fake documentaries anyway.

Intense sci-fi horror thriller
I really don't understand all of the bad reviews for this movie. Ithought it was terrific. It makes great use of the natural creepinessof the moon, and brings a level of verisimilitude to the sci-fi horrorgenre by grounding it in an Apollo mission. The film quality -including the variance between clear video feeds and grainy footage -is true to the era of the Apollo missions, so that works as well. Themen who play the three astronauts each give outstanding performances -subtle enough that they add to the realism, but intense whenappropriate. The plot makes sense and unfolds as the movie progresses,so you gradually learn - as the astronauts do - why they are there andwhy they brought so many cameras. The suspense builds steadily, with anice wallop at the end. And the creatures are about as terrifying asany I've seen in a film. True to the spirit of "found footage" typefilms, you never really understand the creatures fully, but theirmenace is clear. Not quite sure what the folks who panned this filmwere expecting, but for me this delivered the goods with style.

Should have gone to see The Help instead!!
Want to know what Apollo 18 is about? Alien + Blair Witch Project =Apollo 18. Some parts were so ridiculous that I actually laughed outloud. What a complete waste of time! Well, on second thought, maybe nota complete waste - it was good for a laugh or two. I rarely spend moneygoing to a movie in these rough economic times, and this is a primeexample of why. Why spend eight bucks for a disappointment when I canget the same disappointment from a Red Box for a buck? I definitelyshould have read some reviews on this one before going to see it! I dohave my own tastes when it comes to story lines. Just because someoneelse says something is good or bad doesn't necessarily mean I'll agree. However, on this one, trust me. It's bad!

in the found footage genre a nice one
there are a lot of urban legends surrounding the moon landings. One iswe never went to the moon ( excellent Capricorn One with good old JamesBrolin can tell you more), Other conspiracy theories consist out ofcomplete alien moon bases on the dark side and the deal the developedcountries ( meaning the ones able to build rockets) made with thosesame aliens to leave the moon alone.I like these conspiracy theories or urban legends, I really do. I was alittle boy when I saw Capricorn One and I liked it. I think in a wayliking these stories helps you like this movie. Plot is already givenaway by countless ( not so positive) reviews; found or better putsalvaged footage from the Apollo 18 mission that officially never tookplace. Why , one can ask..well because they found something orsomething found them.In my opinion what they found - think "Ticks" from outer space- isn'tthat exciting. What made the movie was the realistic quality of thefootage, including smudges, grain, out of focus etc. Its a " real"looking lunar landing that goes wrong. The fact that there are 3 people- 2 one the surface, one in orbit- that are completely isolated andlater on abandoned by their own people is chilling and played out in arealistic manner. The feeling they are screwed and have nowhere to goreally comes across. So in the end it doesn't really matter that we aretalking space bugs, those thingies are no more then a catalyst ofthings going wrong and the dynamics of the two or three people thathave to respond to this to stay alive. The only real flaw I found to bein the whole movie is the epilogue in writing consisting space rocks..that was just a bit too much. the rest of the movie - thank god movingat a swift pace of just 74 minutes- is really recommended.worth a view.

Yet another missed opportunity.
I had mixed feelings of watching this film in the first place. On onehand, you have the concept of an alien invader in the classical JohnCarpenter's The Thing way, which leads one to believe that you mightcough up the big bucks and see it in theater. Then, you sit back andtry to think of when the last time you saw anything good in theaterwas, and it makes you change your mind. I did rent this one with lowexpectations, and I was not disappointed. I knew it was most likely notgoing to be a strong enough plot, nor cast, nor film making to be theleast bit intriguing, and I was right. The film is another one of thosethat could have been a great film if the concept was put into the righthands, unfortunately it wasn't. The actors were a little over the topon more of a solider character kick instead of one which is sciencebased. Not to mention that it took so long to get into anythingremotely interesting that I felt that I was traveling the light-years.Also, I understand that it was supposed to be the 'lost footage,' butthere was still room for improvement in the camera movement. Then, thebig reveal... an aaallliiieeeennn.... spider? Really? What a waste of$1.07.

So disappointed
I was so looking forward to this film but the longer it went on, themore bored and disappointed I got. Basically I figured the whole plotout almost immediately. Of course I hoped that somewhere a twist wouldprove me wrong but it never happened. This film is as predictable andas linear as they come. *SPOILER* This is the whole plot: scuttling aliens = mad astronaut. No more. That's it. No twists, no turns. Not at all scary.*SPOILER END*Yes, at first the way they shot the film so it looks authentic, isquite amusing but after a while your eyes are craving crisp and sharpimages without any movement. I have to say halfway through I was readyto give up on this film, the only reason I kept watching was because Ihoped for some sort of unexpected end or explanation. Nope. I supposeit's worth watching for some, I wouldn't say it is the worst film everbut do not expect too much. It's an account of the obvious, told in anunconventional way. Nice for a Sunday afternoon if you have nothingelse to do. Not for me though.

Apollo 18
I don't see why this film is so hated. I am a horror fan and i am ahuge fan of the found footage horror films, like The Blair WitchProject, Cloverfield, REC and Paranormal Activity. And i have to saythat Apollo 18 is another great found footage film. I know that withthese films being marketed as real, people expect something different, but as all horror fans know by now, this isn't the case. You can compare Apollo 18 to nearly all found footage horror films butthat doesn't make the horror any less effective, there are some reallygood scare scenes in Apollo 18 that do make you jump quite a few times, which is something i have experienced since Paranormal Activity. LikeCloverfield the alien creatures are not fully revealed, we only see afew glimpses of the rock like creatures that do resemble crabs orspiders. The acting is really good by the two cast members, and the storyline issimple but works really well. The tension does build throughout thefilm, and when they enter the dark shadows of the craters, it becomesunrelenting. My only downside to the film is that it ended too soon, i believe thatthey could have ended it in a better way, but i still really enjoyedthis film. If you are a fan of The Blair Witch Project, ParanormalActivity, or any other found footage horror film, then give this a tryand don't be put off by the negative reviews. It is one of my favouritefound footage films that i have seen.

Dont listen to those with attention deficit disorder
I give this film 7 stars plus one for being that rare beast, a moviethat takes care to portray an Apollo Mission authentically. I'm anApollo space nut more than I'm a fan of 'found-footage' movies which iswhy I'm going to disagree strongly with those who were bored by thisfilm which is surprisingly under-rated and has a lot going for it. Ifound it eminently entertaining and the technical aspects of the Apollomission were brilliantly executed, easily amongst the best I've everseen. The atmosphere realistically and plausibly sells the experienceof spending time on the Moon's surface far better than the likes of,say, 'Moon'. This was a relatively low-budget production but the filmmakers must have got a good deal on the props and costumes from 'FromThe Earth To The Moon' as the engineering details are authenticthroughout as is the portrayal of the Apollo system and its procedures.I found the performances were superb (it was weird seeing Lloyd Owen asan American astronaut as I'm more used to seeing him in 'Monarch of TheGlen', a guilty pleasure for my wife and I in the UK) and the feelingof growing tension was gripping right up to the ending. The onlyexplanation I can think of why so many are describing the film as abore is that people who watch too many of this type of movie are alllooking for big scares or perhaps a massive mind-twist of a pay-off orsomething. As another reviewer put it, this is an effective slow-burnof a movie and that's exactly how I found it. The premise is intriguingand works more as a suspense thriller than a sci-fi horror. Nowherenear as bad as some are making out.

Do not go
t may contain spoilers. Well my review will be very short. This moviewas done very badly. The only saving grace of this movie was theequipment and technology of the time. The Bad: The Blair Witch Project angle is over play, if I wanted to seehome videos I go to LiveLeak.com. The aliens had no bases; I understanda horror flick is not base in reality, but man this was done verybadly. We all may have hope in being a writer for movies. So in shortdo not waste your time in any way to see this movie, rental, theater. Icover the good in my introduction, so please no more Blair WitchProjects.

Great movie,Destined for greatness, but then those Horrible jiggly camera shots. I HATE mockumentaries!!!
Bearing absolutely NO resemblance to Blair Witch or Paranormal activityoutside of the aggravating camera angles(my chief complaint), thismovie showed great promise, but half the shots weren't of action theywere of people shoes, crotches, and moon landscape jiggling up and downwith a mess of blurry shots. I would've really loved to have rated thisfilm much higher, but this "film style" reflects badly on the overallfilm. I really liked what was going on I just couldn't see enough ofwhat was going on.I guess what film people don't seem to understand is you can make abelievable mockumentary without making it appear like a 6 year old didthe filming. They could've easily stationed a camera outside the shipand in areas inside the ship which would've given us a birds eye viewand some good shots, but no. The camera is constantly shaking up anddown, focusing on background shots and the whole thing gets a bitdisorientating after awhile trying to follow what's going on amidst amess of half drunken camera shots. You can hear the great stuff going on, but again the damned camera'sblocks the effects and everything else that makes a great horror moviegreat. Now, don't get me wrong here. The premise and everything else aroundthe film itself was just great and by now we at IBMD should be gettingused to the useless, usual IBMD child reviewers spouting,"This movie isa ripoff of that movie" and this is paranormal activity in space."Please STFU and go home..or review the damn movie for what it is. Youkids haven't seen enough movies to call ripoff. This was an excellenteffort that was poorly executed. I hate saying words like poorlyexecuted it sounds so pretentious, but its true. And they had the $$ toso there was no excuse.Other then the horrible, terrible, nasty cam work, the movie was greatand filled with suspense and some genuinely scary parts. I only wishedI could see more of what was going on instead of looking at pictures ofthe wall and ceiling. Had the camera work been good I would've easilygiven this a 9, but its too distracting the way it is. Ill give itanother chance when it gets put on DVD to see if it improves, but Idon't see how it could with all the above forehead, wall, and shoeshots. So to close this out to my Horror meisters:If you like shaky camera jobs and great horror/Sci-Fi/suspense flicksthen this is for you. Myself, its just not my thing and I am so angry because this genuinelycould've been such a gem... I still liked it, but the camera anglesjust ruined what could've been epic and unforgettable and made itforgettable..Too bad. Great movie, please cut the sh@!@ with the crappy mock camsIts no longer "sheik?" as Hollywood puts it(Does Hollywood say that?).I don't know, but still, Its played out. Find another fad.6/10 stars that deserves 9/10, but was ruined by bad camera work togive it a "real"(lol) feeling.

Its bland, and it made my stomach ache the second it started.
2011 was an impressive year for scary movies. But as always, there wasthat one bad one, the one that stood out. And for me, that was Apollo18, a bland, poorly acted, and stomach churning fiction about why therearen't space missions anymore. That is the premise to this quick movie(clocking in at a whopping hourand 26 minutes). Obviously, it doesn't lead you to believe that whatthey're telling us is true. I highly doubt that a weird spider-rockcreature infected a group of astronauts and THAT'S why it hasn'thappened in years. The movie gave me a stomach ache the second it started, and when thathappens, you know you're not gonna have fun. Also, I hate the way thatfilms such as Cloverfield and Quarantine are filmed in this style. It'sbeen done to death, and it's stupid. Is Apollo 18 the worst movie of the year? No. It doesn't come close toYour Highness, Sucker Punch, or Season of the Witch, but it's still abad movie that you will struggle watching for about 50/80 minutes. Andthat's pretty bad.C-

One of the worst films Ive ever seen in the cinema
With terrible special effects, wooden acting, uninspired characters,Apollo 18 is nothing short of a travesty of the highest order.Nothing in Apollo 18 is new or inspiring, borrowing heavily from other"found footage" titles such as Paranormal Activity. Yet it cannot matchthe tension built. The characters are so dull and unlikable, you won'tcare what happens to them. Just showing a video of one of them at thestart with a family doesn't make you care about them. There is asequence near the end of the film which is so bad it could bereplicated using Microsoft Powerpoint. And the scares, with very few of them, are disappointingly non-scary.The aliens, not very threatening or enthralling. Apollo 18, is nothingyou've not seen before.

This is the worst movie I can remember watching
I actually feel defrauded. I am in utter amazement that someone evenmade this script into a movie, that someone paid to market it, and thatmovie theaters actually carry it. As of right now, IMDb shows a 6.5rating, with a full 28% of the responses being a 10. The realconspiracy theory isn't IN the movie, it IS the movie - as in is howthis rating is possible, and how someone was able to push this moviethrough to even be made. Obviously 28% of the watchers are eitheremployees and their friends and family, or seriously disturbedconspiracy theorists that are so committed to their conspiracy theorythat they'll give thumbs up to a bad Blair Witch wannabe movie with noreal entertainment value whatsoever, that actually makes viewers lesslikely to believe that there is any possibility of a moon/spaceconspiracy.Really. It was that bad. Read the movie critic reviews (which I onlyread AFTER). I'm thinking that if I was even a conspiracy theorist, I'dstill be mad.I nominate this for the worst movie of the decade. Yeah, I know it's abit early, but I'm confident this will be a contender.

A Nutshell Review Apollo 18
Just when you thought the found footage science fiction and horrorsubgenre would finally run out of steam with every possible story beingtold, here comes another that's set in the final frontier of space, andI admit it's kinda clever for writers Cory Goodman and Brian Miller toutilize this device in a conspiracy theory type story that deals withwhy there are no longer any more missions to put man on the moon again, barring budget constraints, with no lack of volunteers and astronautson payroll. From the Blair Witch project involving discovered footage from acamera, there have been wannabes and variants, with some of the mostnotable being The Last Exorcism with a documentary crew following theirsubject for some investigative journalism, in the same way REC did it,and from Cloverfield's monster movie to the Paranormal Activity filmswhich combine both the moving home camera with the static ones fromCCTVs. After all from a movie making perspective most of these filmsare completed on a shoe-string budget and become profitable at the boxoffice, and the challenge here is to create some original ideas tofurther milk this genre before they all truly run out and remakes arecalled into play.Apollo 18 takes one of the cancelled missions of NASA and gives acontroversial, conspiracy type spin to why the crew never made it tothe Moon, by suggesting that the crew actually did so, but a massivecover up put a lid on what had transpired, with official recordsfabricated to hide the truth from the public. The premise is smart, butthe delivery left much to be desired, despite superb production sets torecreate the look and feel of lunar landing and command modules bothfrom the outside and within, those retro looking space suits, and thenear zero gravity experience within the space crafts and during thosemoon walks. One of the chief issues here is that we never really got to know thecrew involved so as to provide that little bit of an emotional anchorto feel for them when things go wrong. Granted this is not Apollo 13and neither was the bandwidth given for this to clock more than 90minutes, but its runtime really felt excruciatingly slow given thatmost of the time, nothing significant happens, saving almost everythingfor last, and throwing the audience a couple of cheap scares every nowand then. The most we get to know of the Apollo 18 crew was that theyreally liked their barbecue gatherings, and being called to finally getup there to the moon, in a mission sponsored by the Department ofDefense, was a real honour, never mind if their project is more topsecret and classified involving what they thought was installingcameras and sensors to detect Russian ICBM launches; cold war era, remember?By staying true to that era and the plot that the footage is real andfound, we get a lot of grainy, full screen presentation with plenty ofstatic, quick cuts (edited by the filmmaker from the hours of rawmaterial it was claimed) to highlight that sense of dread and urgencyin staying alive when all else seemed to have abandoned them and themission. The lack of stronger character development made it a littledifficult to empathize with the characters when they face a brick wallin communications and with a mission threatening to go haywire, madeworst when there is something else quite hostile in their midst, andcontributing to a systemic failure of equipment and people. They becomethe inevitable fodder, though one is limited to only the crew ratherthan to have a mindless bloodbath just because it is possible.Still, don't let this faux pas found footage film put you off from theglee of partaking in a conspiracy theory especially if space missionsare up your alley, and meanwhile, let me look for my lunar rock andtoss it out the window.

Not as bad as many people are saying
This is one of the more underrated movies of the year. Other than IMDband Rotten Tomatoes, I have heard ONE person say that they liked thismovie. Thank you Brad Jones. This movie isn't great but it isn't reallybad, it's just an OK film that had a lot of hype. Now I love foundfootage movies, this was one of two big ones that came out this year, the other being Paranormal Activity 3, which I really wanted to see butcouldn't get to the theater, so I have to wait another month for it.But back to Apollo 18, most people's problem with the movie was that itwas boring. And I agree that it definitely has several slow and boringmoments, but it has enough suspense to make it through once. That's mymain problem with the movie, I never see myself watching it again. Theother problem people have is when we find out what the creatures are.Spoilers but it turns out that they are moon rocks. To be honest, Ithought that was actually pretty cool. The characters aren't great, butI don't want to see them die. And true the end does have a huge plothole as to how the government got the footage, but I think the movie isOK.

Misses the mark on all points.
This movie was a complete disappointment for me. They should have donemore research to at least TRY and make it somewhat realistic. Therewere so many glaring inconsistencies that I can't even begin to listthem all. For one, the astronauts and Mission Control wouldn't havebeen referring to one another by their first names. Also, theastronauts were supposed to be military, but there was not one singlething about their bearing to suggest that they were military. The listgoes on and on, but I won't belabor the point. I was expecting anentertaining, thought-provoking movie, and instead was treated tosomething that appeared to be written by an uninformed seven-year-old.I was NOT impressed.

Great promotion for a good but not great movie.
When NASA admitted this movie was not a conspiracy to hide things fromus, I thought this was them joking around saying "hey, we wouldn't dothat!" Instead of being faux proof of a conspiracy, it really wasn'tabout conspiracy but a rather harmless alien movie (I would sayspoilers here but they made it pretty plain and obvious what theastronauts were up against - yes, they are....wait for it......SpaceCrabs!) It started off pretty cool with the film highlighting really subtlemovements that might have passed by if you weren't focusing on it.There were some really good jump scares too where the movie lulled usinto the lives of the astronauts which caused some good funny gaspsfrom the audience. I admit...I jumped several times myself! There were some really stupid ones too, including my favorite cliché ofhow aliens always attack just as you are about to lift off. Somehowthey always know when to the exact second! Don't expect too much bloodor gore. There are only a total of 3 astronauts to kill off. Oops,spoilers...like NASA was going to let them comeback alive to tell usthere are aliens on the moon. What made this film special was that it was supposed to be "real"footage from the Apollo 18 mission. This was done really, really wellat times and then all that came crashing down with added sound effectsand dramatic hums that were completely pointless and out of place. It'sobvious these were added during post. More than likely after initialscreenings which caused the film to be delayed (don't believe the liesthey tell you that it was too close to the Transformers 3script...that's the only conspiracy). There's not a lot of action up front and I could see how audienceswould get pretty bored not having a scientific background. It was coolhow NASA collaborated with the movie and made it as realistic aspossible but science does not equal fun to Joe America. You couldreally see the effort the filmmakers put in on the lifestyle of theastronuts (sic) in the cramped environment of the lunar lander. The main characters were good and likable which made you really carefor them. The aliens weren't bad but they were really bland. How does awhole species of Space Crabs survive on the moon without a food source, anyway? They weren't intelligent as far as I could tell. Just animals. They just had no reason to even be on the moon other than to just makea movie. The ending was good but it had a "dude....really?" moment toend it.Overall, this movie was good but not great. It would've been much moreinteresting if not for 3 things: 1) The movie is short...really short! It's about 80+ minutes with the 8or 9 minute long closing credits. Believe me, if you worked on thisfilm, you had plenty of chance to read your name on the screen.2) I was hoping more for a "NASA is hiding aliens from us! Here is theproof! You decide!" documentary style of movie.3) The sound effects and a few scenes of trippy going insane scenescompletely ruin the illusion that this is supposed to be real footage. Some of it was completely out of place just as the trailer for thatSARAH JESSICA PARKER movie? Seriously? You're promoting a romanticcomedy in front of a conspiracy sci-fi movie? You know what...theyshould have had her in this movie as an astronaut. What would you endup with if you had Sarah Jessica Parker in a romantic sci-fi comedy?SPACE CRABS!

Terrible Ending
I'll start off with the good: The general idea and what they weretrying to bring up in the movie about life on the moon and about howthe government may cover up these things is a cool idea but the waythey displayed it just wasn't my type. Now I'll start from the worst: The ending was yet another let down inthis movie. You almost are left hoping a main character would make itback to tell the story and show justice but, they all simply die andthe stories are faked and almost makes the whole point of the movieseem pointless since every main character just died. The setting got quite boring to me. When they had the people back onEarth talking I'm not sure why they wouldn't cut to them actuallytalking and showing there facial expressions rather then simply hearinga voice. There is much more about this video that I dislike but I've alreadyspoiled enough.

So-So
I went to see it a couple of days ago with my friend.(Now keep in mind that me and my friend are 15 year old girls k?)The script was a little bland. There could have been some dark humor orsomething of the sort to lighten it up a little. Maybe a little moretalking about themselves so we actually can understand and relate withthe characters. The story line could have been better. The only thing that really did this movie for me were the jump scenes.I have watched the Blaire Witch Project and I laughed almost all theway through it (Mainly because they all ended up winding insane). Iwatched Paranormal Activity. It did nothing for me. It was neitherlaughable or scary. At least this movie managed to successfullyfrighten me.To be honest, I am going to admit that I rather enjoyed it for it'sjump scenes but other than that it was quite flat. (Not to mention thethe website mentioned is obviously fake. Don't bother looking it up,I'll just quote it for you: "This website was forcibly censored. Itscontents can be seen in the film." They must have been super desperateto get more viewers to go this low.Anyway apart from the flatness and the desperateness it was OK. I'llgive it a four, for the jump scenes and the concept.

Throw the astronauts a bone!!
The premise of this film is great - the last mission to the Moon thegovernment covered up because something nasty lurks up there. Iimmediately got into the characters and liked all the 70s touches - theold clothes and dodgy telephones etc. Then I got a bit bored, I woke with a start to someone screaming theirlungs out and the camera shaking violently, the next time I woke up thecamera was rolling down a crater to the soundtrack of more screaming. After a Pepsi and a rewind I managed to sit through to the end, but itwas hard. The problem with this movie is there is no where for the protagoniststo go. The capsule is about three meters square, its cold outside andthere's no kind of atmosphere. What are the poor astronauts meant todo, hide in the glove-box? With no where to run they (quiteunderstandably)sit around complaining. It would be like remaking 'Friday the 13th' but with everyone bobbingaround in the middle of the Ocean. Where's Jason? Oh there he is,everyone swim for it!A very nice concept, well executed but fundamentally flawed.
