BLAND MOVIE . . . SO TERRIBLY BLAND

A trite tale that doesn't deliver too much. The theme about the opposites attracting (compared to finding a mate just like yourself) is compelling and rings true but they only deliver it in the most simplistic manner. Kids may be more forgiving than adults when it comes to the story. I would expect nothing more than a mediocre to average experience with this movie. MY GRADE: C to C plus; WHEN WATCHED: 1/18/2011; STORY/PLOTTING: C plus; CHARACTERS/DIALOGUE: C plus; HUMOR: C minus to C.

My second viewing of this film was even better!

I recently watched this again on DVD and was more impressed this time. While the animation in Alpha and Omega is not top notch I still enjoyit because it has a great story. It does not have those annoying tunesthat pop up every ten minutes or so. Yes you guys know what I'm talkingabout especially in a lot of the newer Disney films. This movie has adecent music score and the characters personality traits are puttogether cleverly.Alpha and Omega is the story of two wolves. Kate; an Alpha andHumphrey; an Omega. Humphrey has always liked Kate but she has otherthings on her mind such as growing up. Fast forward a few months laterand Kate has proved her position as Alpha Wolf. This is where the storyturns. There is tension between the Western and Eastern Wolf packs.Tony the leader of the Eastern Wolves wants Kate to marry his son Garthto unite the packs together but Kate is not interested in Garth andruns away from him on the night of the Moonlight Howl. Somehow Kateruns into Humphrey and they are both unaware of the people whotranquilize them and relocate them both to Idaho to help repopulate thespecies. Kate needs to get back to the park to help the packs unite butalong the way back home plans are thwarted after Kate falls forHumphrey.Alpha and Omega while not animated well was still put together withlots of thought and heart. I enjoyed watching the extras on the DVD.Some things in the movie may be questionable to younger audiences butnothing too over the top.

Good Movie

This review is from: Alpha & Omega (Amazon Instant Video) For those of you who would like to know the plot i'm not going to spoil it, even though it's pretty obvious from the trailer. So, lets get down to business, the first thing is that the way the plot is presented is what intrigues me, its not in an orthodox way, which gives you a good start but by the time the movie is about half over you will know what will happen. The voice acting is great though the way that the actors were able to create a good feel for natural conversation was good and the animators did a great job of humanizing the characters without taking the animal qualities away (I always like to take note on this since very few people ever do when it comes to animated movies.) Unfortunately I didn't see it in 3D but if they did a good job of alignment the 3D feel should be awesome, it was good even in 2D on my laptop. Many of the shots in the movie are done in a way that just invites you in, the camera movement was great as was the the stationary camera shots, they really help you enjoy the background without taking your attention away from the action and the important parts. There are few "cheap humor tricks" in this movie although the opportunity to pun is ever so pleasant they don't do that too often, it has a good balance of humor and seriousness. They writers basically knew how to use their comic relief characters in good balance with the more serious ones. This movie is great for families and I think that it would be a great choice just to watch for the heck of it. And if your one of those sticklers for accuracy in movies just relax a bit and enjoy the film, don't complain because the packs don't follow a real packs organization, or that the wolves manage to grab objects with their paws every once in a while, its just a movie and don't worry the animators didn't take too much of an artistic licence with the animals.Another thing to point out, this movie does not paint humans as evil monsters like other movies can and do, I'm sure my fellow hunters and outdoorsmen are happy about that, it in fact barely uses the humans and only for brief periods to move the plot along, in fact if you didn't already know the plot from the trailer you wouldn't even suspect humans to get mixed up the movie for the first 20-30 minutes. The only reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars is because I feel that there were other opportunities to one-up the plot and make it a little more interesting, you know add a conspiracy or something unexpected.Overall a great movie that, with just a little more thought put into the story, could have been a great movie. And just in case you didn't know this was Denis Hopper's last movie, playing the voice of Tony, a kind of antagonist character, but not really.

Painfully unfunny, tries too hard to be a heartwarming movie and a kids movie at the same time and the side story is pretty much the same thing,

Alpha and Omega was a terrible movie, the animation wasn't great thecomedy and laughter was poor and the whole storyline suffers with a badstoryline, and it tries too hard to be a kids movie and a heartwarmingmovie at the same time and there really isn't anything funny ormemorable in it at all.Two wolves from different packs (one an "alpha and another "omega),maleand female(Humphry and Lilly),get caught by hunters and once theyescape miles away from home they work together, along with a french andan English duck to get back home, but romance gets in the way.Meanwhileat there home, an omega called Garth and l Lillys sister linda startfalling in love too.

Is not the beginning nor the end of animated movies

This movie is nothing more than decent. If you have a chance watch itwith the little ones and you will enjoy it even more. I didn't but it'sobvious that its charm comes from the affect it creates with children. And while it might feel cheesy to grown-ups and would not have a chanceto stand against any Pixar movie (maybe against cars, come to think ofit), it still is a nice little movie. The central story is pretty simple and even if I told you it would notbe a real spoiler (I won't do it though). You will see where this isgoing, but hopefully have the fun this offers you along the ride.Anything but flawless, but a nice movie that can be enjoyed by thewhole family.

Embarrassing To Watch...Shoulda Went Straight To DVD

I think I saw this at some theaters and after watching this, should have went directly to dvd and then it's only good as a rental. I really don't get how some good movies go to dvd while others like this go to the theaters. It's a kind of movie that a parent would bring their child to, only to yawn themselves to sleep while their little child claps and screams out "daddy, daddy! Look at the woof woof!" (replace daddy with mommy if you're a mom). The only age that'll appreciate this would be ages 1 through maybe 8? It makes me just embarrass just to be seen watching this, definitely not for serious dates, even if you just want a easygoing laughable movie, this is not the one to choose. It has a lot of childish humor. Embarrassing to watch scenes include wolves howling like they're singing, which made me cringe and shut my eyes, praying that it'd go away. This is a lower budget animation. I'm a gaming/animation major, but it doesn't take someone in gaming or animation major to tell you that the animation is of lower caliber to something like...Ice Age for example. The film I found was boring, the humor was not very amusing to my taste, the plot has been overdone (Romeo and Juliet variety), animation was alright but definitely nothing special and definitely not revolutionary. Humor involving the mom, nice try but didn't go through, it was too corny.I skipped through many parts of the movie because I just couldn't take anymore mediocre/bad films, it's a bit overwhelming. This is why pirating has gone up and the movie industry wonders why? Better movies and lower movie prices please.Cute movie, but leave it to the young kiddies. The movie is definitely not universally entertaining and if you're an adult that gets lots of laughs from this, either you're on multiple medications which you should have prescribed me a couple of OR you have a brain of a 5 year old, which I don't find surprising. The rating system on amazon is near worthless as well.... I suddenly pictured torture in third world countries that involve continuous reruns of films like these....cringe...

Not Crufts-level, but not a complete mongrel.

First things first - in animation terms, "Alpha and Omega" isn't in thePixar league. Or the DreamWorks league. In fact, it's not that farabove the "Jakers! The Adventures Of Piggley Winks" league... whichkind of fits, since the movie seems more suited to the small screenthan the big.The animation (done in Mumbai, not Japan, contrary to one previousreviewer) is sadly suited to the script; never really surprising andpretty derivative - the climax manages to rip off "The Lion King"(fathers trapped in a stampede), "Jurassic Park" (they're protected bya tree) AND "Far And Away" (the camera pulls back up away from Kate andzooms back down - it's her spirit going up to wolf heaven and comingback into her, get it?) -, the story's conclusion is foretold from thebeginning and though it's got its moments, there aren't really enoughto make it a must. The howling scenes are always good value, the casttries with what they have, and there's a welcome lack of pop culturereferences and romantic ballads over the credits - but while it's notunwatchable and never really terrible, this probably isn't the screenfarewell Dennis Hopper fans had in mind. The movie would have gotten a 4/10, but it's raised to 5 because of a)the effects work of the clouds at the beginning and end (Digital Domainare featured in the end credits. Hmmm...), b) the aforementioned nighthowls, and c) it being less lame than the last animated movie HaydenPanettiere lent her perky little voice to which got a proper theatricalrelease, since "Hoodwinked Too" is still stuck on the shelf("Dinosaur").

Great Movie

This is a great movie. I rented it and my 7 year old son can't stop talking about it, which says alot since it isn't a super hero movie. I will be purchasing it for him soon. I really enjoyed it as well. The plot isn't really original, but it is a very cute movie.

Another retarded, poorly written cartoon

I know this was made for little kids, but the messages it instills in their little formulative, impressionable brains is just plain terrible. This is a movie about wolves, but it overtly teaches children it's perfectly alright to be judgemental, superficial, arrogant, violent human beings.Kate is the cool, proud, strong, sophisticated Alpha wolf that is responsible and dutiful. Humphrey is the lovable loser Omega wolf that spends his time joking and playing around. Hump likes Kate, but she ridicules and looks down upon him. Any friendship between the two would not be tolerated. Instead Kate is expected to hook up with Garth, another stud Alpha wolf from a rival pack. Their marriage will supposedly unite the packs and end the pointless feuding so all the wild dirty dogs could chomp on some yummy caribou together. This basic, uninspired script is not really a problem. Arranged marriage? Primitive, but hey they are wolves. The constant wolf bickering and fighting is pointless, but it does accurately reflect human nature. It's also no big deal that the wolves get frightened by a pack of caribou and are forced to eat berries and cupcakes. What I found preposterous and harmfully derogatory was the divisive mindset portrayed here. Even when captured by hunters and expected to repopulate a national park, Kate looked at Humphrey with contempt and disgust. She refused to go slumming and give it up to the loser wolf. That right there teaches girls it's okay not to do their duty and spread 'em. Wrong on so many levels.Alpha and Omega had so many howling bad lines and silly developments. The visuals are pretty bland as well. Plus a basic story you've seen a hundred times before, mixed with negative messages to brainwash our kids. Am I overreacting? Yes. But still, there wasn't a great deal of effort put into this film. Save your money.

Visually decent but disappointing effort

I love animation, always have, always will, but I was reallydisappointed with Alpha and Omega. It isn't without its redeemingqualities. The colours and sceneries are really beautiful to look at,and the voice acting on the whole is good. Justin Long was ratherbland, but Hayden Penettiere was quite likable and Dennis Hopperimpresses in his last film though as a film overall it is not somethingI don't think people will remember him by.Chris Bacon's music is occasionally nice, but most of the time itdoesn't fit completely with the scene it accompanies, in some of theaction scenes especially it comes across as a little obtrusive. Alsosome the worst animation is in the musical sequences, and the dancescenes feel really out of place. While I loved the colours and the sceneries, the character designsdidn't impress me at all. In fact, I found them rather forced, especially with the goose. The 3D was okay, I have definitely seenworse where it not only distracts but isn't good in the first place.Alpha and Omega's 3D had its moments, but sometimes it wasn't sharpenough and it jarred with the much clearer backgrounds.Besides, I haven't yet come to the worst assets of Alpha and Omega. Thestory is unbelievable mostly, I liked the concept and it started offgreat, but once the clichéd love story idea got introduced the filmwent downhill fast. Also there are several parts that struck me as oddand unbelievable, particularly with the wolf howl idea and the one withthe war between the two wolf clans is half-baked.The film is also devoid of a sympathetic and likable character, exceptfor Kate, who is quite cute. They do some actions that make you go"what?" at the screen, and also there are more clichés than you cancount in the characters alone. Being clichéd can work, but only if it'swell-observed, depicted or written, not the case here. The pace isuneven, dragging in the middle, and while I have nothing against"happy" endings I found the ending here underwhelming. The worst part is the writing. The script is mostly awful, withhalf-baked ideas and any parts that strive to be funny or poignantinstead come across as eye-rollingly cheesy or cloying. The sex jokesalso get too much, and feel really out of place, while the rest of thejokes are predictable and incredibly lame.So all in all, not the worst film of 2010 or the worst animated filmever, but the most disappointing animated film I have seen in a while.2/10 Bethany Cox

love Alpha and Omega

This was a great movie and i don't know why people think this is a badmovie. They are showing the true love between Kate and Humphrey andshowing that even though Kate is an alpha she couldn't save herselffrom the bear, it was Humphrey an omega who helped her.also, Humphreyjumps in to save Kate when the stampede is going on. People are sayingthat wolfs don't have blue or green eyes. let me tell u one thing morethan half of the movies are made up example harry potter, lord of therings. I loved it and i think they should make a part 2 for this. Idon't know how people can even say that this movie sucks i mean look atthis it shows the meaning of true love. So this is the reason i gave ita 10 star rating. so i hope you people watch it and vote for it.

16 May 2012

inappropriate content

Inappropriate content - violent comments such as "I'll rip your throat out and....down your neck" in addition to strong sexual suggestions - both clearly inappropriate for a PG rating. Story line is thrown together with no creativity - no cute and cuddly wolves shown here, more like a 'how-to' mate/fight with other wolves. Overall crap.

ok but not great

I got this move because I missed it in the theaters. I thought by the pre-views I had seen that it would be a very good movie.Once it got here and i watched it i was very disapointed. The story has great potential, but falls way short of it.

Adorable little movie.

The movie had my husband and I giggling and the children enjoyed it alot. When it was over, my six year old son asked if we could buy it. Ididn't know what to expect when we rented it and was pleasantlysurprised at what a great little movie it was. The mother wolf had merolling. I think any mother could relate. I do wish the adventure was alittle longer, but still very pleased with this one. Storyline- InJasper National Park, the wolves, Kate and Humphrey, have known eachother since puppyhood, but they are on the oppose ends of the WesternPack's social structure with Kate as the energetic Alpha daughter ofthe pack leader and Humphrey being the good humoured Omega. That socialstructure forces Kate to accept an arranged marriage with Garth of theEastern Pack to unite the packs for peace, regardless of Humphrey'shopeless attraction for her. Before that union can occur, Kate andHumphrey are captured by the park's rangers and sent to an Idaho parkas part of a wolf repopulation project. Mindful of her duties, Kate isdetermined to return to Jasper and Humphrey offers to help with theassistance of two odd geese. However, as this disparate pair strugglethrough the dangers to get home, a growing mutual appreciation of theirtalents and then a deeper love threatens to disastrously complicateeverything if they make it back.

Love wolves? Love Balto? Then youll love Alpha and Omega

In animated movies, you expect lot of things to make the money for itto be successful, such as looking for the greatest cast member that isright for the role, or the best writers, even the best pitching storyboarders.Well if you're looking for the right of cartoon film to watch, young orold, then Alpha and Omega will be your best fit.Alpha and Omega tells the story of two very different wolves in twodifferent packs on a journey about adventure and love. An omega wolfnamed Humphrey (Voiced by Justin Long whose also play Lem in Planet 51and Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks) is the first wolf in history tobe having a crush on an alpha named Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere)whose also an old friend of his.But this is a problem for him because omegas are forbidden to be matingwith the alphas. It has been their old rule for many years. But withtime, some rules are meant to be change.Soon after a bad failing caribou hunt, Kate's father Winston (voiced byDanny Glover) agrees with Tony (voiced by the late Dennis Hopper.R.I.P.) that his son Garth (voiced by Chris Carmack) would marry Katein order to keep the peace and reunite the packs.During that night, things take on a different turn for Kate after shemeets Garth and learns one part about him; that his howling sucks! Butdespite that bad fact about Garth, Kate will stick up to the marriageno matter what. It's not very long until she and Humphrey get capture by humans and aresent to Idaho to repopulate. They get some help from a golf-playinggoose named Marcel (voiced by Larry Miller) and his duck friend Paddy(voiced by Eric Price) to get back to Jasper Park Canada on time beforeit is too late or else Tony's pack and Winston's pack will have tofight for the valley.Meanwhile Kate's sister Lilly (voiced by Christina Ricci) keeps Garth'scompany and shows him around while Kate and Humphrey are gone beforethey are to get back. Now Lionsgate is not that used to making many animated movies, butdespite the fact that this is the first time we've had a wolf movie in15 years since Balto, the film carries a lot of funny almost adult-likehumor. The jokes will put a tickle in your tummy and the romance willthrow in a good source of sweetness to your heart. It will have you change your mind the way you see how love sparksthrough another one's eyes.
